Response from Colony Air Conditioning & Heating
This was the first time we serviced this person. They had moved into a home owned by a previous customer. A new outdoor a/c was installed for this previous homeowner a few months earlier. This new homeowner called because the ac was not cooling. We diagnosed that the TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) located in the attic was not working properly. We quoted a price to replace the part. They thought that the txv repair should have been under warranty because we had installed a new outdoor unit several months back. We explained that the txv was the original txv that came with the house and since it was not part of our installation of the outdoor unit, it would not fall under our warranty. So yes, there would be a fee to change out the txv. I'm not real sure what this person meant by charging "extra". If we charge extra for something, we let the customer know why there would be an extra charge. In this case, there were no extra charges. All the charges were for legitimate, needed repairs. We charge for services based on a national pricing repair guide. Each repair has a specific price. However, because this customer was upset and dissatisfied and felt they shouldn't have to pay anything, we agreed to do the job entirely at no charge. The reason we did the work at no charge had nothing to do with whether the husband used to do ac work or not. We weren't trying to pull any wool over their eyes. We weren't admitting that we did anything wrong. The only reason we did this work at no charge was to try and satisfy this upset customer. So, we replaced the part, the customer got cooling, the customer paid nothing, we did the work for free, and we still get punished with an F on Angie's List. I'm at wits end. I don't know what else we could have done. This person never paid a dime, not even a minimum service call. I will say that I am thankful that 99.9% of our customers love us. Over 500 written compliments from our customers are received every year. Our goal is to serve our customers to the very best of our ability each and every time and I personally pledge 100% satisfaction. Sincerely, Katherine Everett
