Morrow Mechanical was recommended to me by Nick with Heat Blockers (great company btw) on Wednesday the 11th to replace my plenums that were badly damaged and had several leaks. So, I looked them up on their website and on Angie's List that night. I liked what I saw and read, so I emailed them for service on their website. It was late on a Wednesday, like around 9PM. I received a phone call first thing the next morning, Thursday, and the lady was very friendly and eager to help and answer questions. They were very flexible for appointments for an estimate, and would explain how to join their Comfortable Home Care Plan and what it would consist of at the appointment. We scheduled an appointment for Monday the 23rd, a week and a half from our phone conversation. Shortly after that, I realized I could meet in a week, which was on Friday the 20th, before that Monday. The lady was more than glad to move it up to Friday, and was not bothered by the change. The next night, Friday the 13th (a week before our appointment), I realized our downstairs A/C was not running. Thankfully it was overcast, and not too hot, but I wanted to get it taken care of. So, I called Morrow Mechanical, after hours like around 8 or 9PM. I had to leave a message, but they called me back within twenty minutes. I asked if they could have someone come out to look at the A/C, and she said she could the next morning at 11AM-1PM, on Saturday the 14th. I also asked if we could go ahead and include the original appointment for an estimate on the plenums, so I wouldn't have to have him come out twice. She said absolutely. That night I found out that there is a switch upstairs that might have been flipped, and so I checked it, and sure enough, it was off. So, by switching it on, the A/C started running immediately. The technician, wish i could remember his name, he was fantastic, arrived right at 11AM on Saturday the 14th, and did not seem put out at all that he was called out to an A/C repair, only to find out it was not necessary. He gladly recommended he check everything out thoroughly, and also look at the situation with the plenums. he said the plenums definitely needed to be replaced, and by doing so, would also take care of the only other problems he saw, which were connections and duct. After the full inspection, he said everything else looks great, and that we have some really nice equipment. Everyone I have come in contact with at Morrow Mechanical has been very friendly, helpful, and great to work with. So glad Nick recommended them. I also signed up for their Comfortable Home Care Plan. It is a great service at a great price, which includes discounts on all the work they do. They were on time, kept a clean work site, and did great work. Waylon was awesome, and i would strongly recommend them to family and friends, and of course, use them again.Chad
Description of Work: I signed up for their Comfortable Home care Plan, and they installed two new plenums with UV lights.

My A/C went out on Friday night. I called Morrow first thing Saturday morning and a technician was at my house within a few hours. He went to work troubleshooting the inside unit and decided a motherboard was bad. He spent an hour getting one and then installed it, only to have it blow twice more, but he'd installed a fuse so the motherboard survived. He told us something was surging and causing problems and that meant we needed to replace the entire inside unit. He gave us options to replace just the inside or the inside and outside units and we decided to do the whole unit, inside and out. Since we have two little kids and it was already miserable inside the house, he decided to rig the fan so it would bypass the motherboard and run continuously so we'd have circulation. In doing this he opened the outside unit and found that the capacitor had basically exploded and that's what caused the problems in the indoor unit. I have no idea why he didn't look at that first, but then I don't do A/C repair, so perhaps that is standard operating procedure. He got the fan running and scheduled the replacement team to come Monday morning. I was charged $400 for this which seemed high considering nothing was fixed, but it went toward the repair cost. The tech didn't try to upsell us anything, even when I opened the door to it for by asking if reworking the ducts in between floors would fix the temperature difference between upstairs and downstairs. He recommended attic insulation, and I appreciate that he not only didn't try to sell us anything but suggested a fix. On Monday I received two phone calls telling me the techs were in route. They arrived on time and promptly covered my carpet with canvas and got to work. They were very nice, uniformed, very professional, and worked hard the entire day in fairly miserable conditions. At the end of the day they showed me how to work the thermostat and cleaned up thoroughly after themselves. I noticed today that something was damaged upstairs (a knob on a door) but it's a minor issue and it took me almost three weeks to notice so I doubt they knew they'd damaged anything. I don't care for the thermostat that was installed (it clicks very loudly) so I pulled it off the wall and was going to put my old one back on; but then I decided that something that was part of a $7800 repair shouldn't make me angry so I called Morrow. They sent a tech out the same afternoon to discuss options with me and it's a good thing - because pulling it off the wall apparently broke the unit. The tech replaced it under warranty and recommended I give it a few weeks to see if the clicking still bothered me. He said my old unit would work, but the new one is a very nice one with some neat features. 5 weeks later the clicking still bothers me, but probably not enough to do anything about. I was impressed they sent a technician out the same day, and also impressed with the warranty service. Minor Issues: The techs didn't agree on things, which bothers me a bit. The Saturday tech recommended enlarging the air return and even called someone high up at the company about it. But the Monday crew didn't know about it and told me it was a bad idea because then I'd have a lot more return air flowing from upstairs than downstairs that would create issues. I don't know who was right and I'll probably always wonder about it. I opted to not enlarge it, however, because there's really not room. The Monday crew also didn't know that I'd already paid $400 toward the service but quickly changed the invoice when I showed him the invoice proving I had. Some more communications between the teams would be nice, but perhaps the one being a Saturday service messes with paperwork a bit. I have no instruction manual for the new furnace and there's a flashing red light on it. It'd be very nice to look that up in the manual and see if it's normal. I called Morrow and asked for one and the girl said they'd send it, but all they mailed me was a sheet with serial numbers. I'm sure I can get the manual online, but I'd actually like a paper copy. Seems like that should be included for the price! That may be a reflection on Lennox, however. Lennox is also advertising rebates, but when I asked about them the tech said they are for units much larger than mine. Figures! Overall Impression: Both the Saturday and Monday crews were polite, respectful, and hard working. They left the house as clean as they found it and I have a nice shiny new A/C unit and a much quieter furnace to show for it. I think there needs to be a bit more communication between the teams, but I'm very happy with their work. I have no idea if the price was fair or not, but I wasn't in a position to price shop. I will use them in the future for yearly maintenance on the new system. And the system works really, really well.
Description of Work: A/C unit wouldn't come on at all. Called Morrow on a Saturday, the technician performed troubleshooting on inside A/C unit and recommended it be replaced, along with exterior unit. Morrow came back two days later and replaced the entire system, including ductwork in the attic, the furnace, the outside unit, and the thermostat.

Was a pleasure to deal with Morrow Mechanical. Gleann, the service technician showed up right on time, did a thorough inspection of the system before giving me an estimate and presented me with several options for service. He completed the work quickly and got my A/C back running.I will definitely recommend to my friends (in fact I already have) and we continue to use their services in the future.

They are my heroes. They found an error from another company that saved me from suffering through the heat. I trust them more than I ever have with someone else in my home. I felt like everything they were telling me was worthwhile and truthful. They are straightforward and offered a great warranty on their work. The man that worked on my equipment allowed me to call him as many times as I needed with questions. He even went above and beyond by recommending little fixes I could do around the house.

Due to the ratings on Angie?s List for Morrow Mechanical, I am surprised and disappointed with both Morrow Mechanical and Angie?s List. I have used Angie?s List in the past and had great results with the contractor I found here. The technician was supposed to come out and perform a multi-point A/C system tune-up. Of the points to be addressed, only one was performed, water washing of the condenser coil. The technician recommended the entire system be replaced, as the system will not operate properly. When asked how much this would cost, he said it can vary as much as $13,000. He was then asked what it would cost (ballpark) to install an A/C system in a new house of comparable size; he said they don?t do new construction because they cannot guaranty the work. From the time the tech arrived to the time he left, I felt he was there to do one thing, sell a new system. The service report is below in italics. Tech: GLENN Date: 04/23/2012 Found the evap coil to be heavily degraded and holding water. Drain lines are not flowing off condensate as they should. transition between furnace and evap coil is breaking down. Furnace has a heavily rusted heat exchanger and a natural draft exhaust system. Blower motor in furnace is heavily coated in dust and debri. Condensing unit is empacted with material. Power distribution in the condensing unit is weak and heavily worn. it is recommended that the system be replaced. System will not function properly in this state. A few days later I called out a technician from another company. The tech cleaned the evaporator coil, fan, drain pan, sealed the transition between the furnace and evaporator coil and added two pounds of Freon. All this was done for little more than what Morrow Mechanical charged for doing next to nothing. The system operates fine. I will never again use Morrow Mechanical nor Angie?s List.

Response from Morrow Mechanical
We frequently find old air conditioning and heating equipment that somewhat functional in terms of blowing cool or heated air into a home. However that by no means should be lead one to conclude that the system in question is safe to operate, will perform in a reliable manner, or will not cause water damage to the home. Our tune up and maintenance services involve complete inspections of the entire cooling and heating system. This inspection will reveal all issues that need to be addressed in order for the system to operate reliably, efficiently, and without damage to the structure or compromise the safety of the occupants. This home was built in 1970 and has a natural draft furnace that is at least 20 years old. The outdoor unit is a 1993 model machine and we can only speculate that the evaporator coil is the same age. The heat exchanger for this furnace is no longer in production and is no longer available for purchase. The proper cleaning of the blower assembly involves removal from the furnace, disassembling, cleaning, and reinstalling. The only permanent solution for a heavily degraded evaporator coil is to replace the coil. The proper repair for the condensing unit would be to disassemble the unit, clean the condenser coil with coil cleaner, and replace of the power distribution system. It is not our policy to recommend expensive repair work on equipment that is worn out and will not perform reliably even after the repair work is completed. Yes putting freon in the system will make it work until it has another problem and that certainly is less expensive than replacing an entire air conditioning system. As a homeowner you have the choice to choose what you want to do with your system. As for our company, we don’t have such a choice because we are going to stand behind everything we do for our clients and will not recommend doing repairs under the misconception that a system will properly preform unless we know that it will. We know that this one will not. The technician’s assessment of the system is correct. The system is worn out as stated. Replacing an air conditioning system is obviously a major investment. We do not feel that recommending any of these repairs would be to the customers benefit. Our service technicians are held personally accountable for recommendations to our clients. They are required to act with the highest level of integrity even when it involves recommending expensive solutions. We feel our technician acted accordingly.

One of my HVAC units stopped working a month ago. The other unit, despite being a much older unit, was still in good working condition. So I had several companies come out to inspect the HVAC units. Every one of them recommended that we replace both units. So much so that they were almost insistent. They were trying to sell me units that far exceeded the tonnage needed for the sq ft. And more importantly, the quotes were really high. I then had a technician from Morrow Mechanical come out. His inspection report clearly pointed out the failed HVAC unit as such and the other as 'working but in need for service'. He did however advise us that the other unit did not have much time but a few years left on it. Nevertheless, it did not need an immediate replacement. That right there sealed the deal. To top that, their quote was almost 25% lower that the lowest I had gotten until then. They provided me the model numbers on the compressor, furnace etc. I was able to check reviews on those models. The team was on time the day of installation. The team was professional and knowledgeable. They incorporated my requests to relocate the new units a little differently. Their workmanship was clean and solid and nothing seemed out of place. The post-installation testing and final walk through was done right - all information about the use and care of the new system was explained in detail. We've been enjoying the new system since.

The initial service guy came out for a tune-up, was punctual and professional. He cleaned my two outside units better than another other service company has in the past, hosed them down, removed pine needles from grates, etc. He found a leak in my box coil, which was supplied when the house was built by my home builder contractor Big Tex a few years ago. Big Tex installed a cheap box coil to save a buck, and also used a cheap material to build the boxes where the air hoses tie in. It was outside the warranty period, and Morrow suggested a slab coil...better for Houston humidity, more efficient, etc. Very happy with it's performance so far. My 4500 sq ft house cools down like a champ. This was Friday. Sunday night came and the unit with the new coild would not turn on at all. Luckily the house has two 5 ton units, and the first floor unit was able to keep the temp upstairs at a reasonable level. I called Morrow first thing Monday morning, and they were at my house within 1.5 hrs. Found the door had opened slightly and opened the safety shut off switch. Not a big deal, he ensured it closed properly and won't happen again. The folks from Morrow have set a great first impression with me moving forward, were professional and friendly, punctual, thorough to make sure I understand, etc....the bar for them is set high moving forward. Not sure if they're the cheapest in town, but I believe you get what you pay for...and A/C is so critical in Houston, it's worth paying to have it done right. Probably the best A/C service company I've worked with, and highly recommend them.

Eric and Tony made an evaluation and found that the evaporator coil in the furnace located in the attic was leaking. They showed me how their detection device went clicking the moment they placed it in the furnace. They recommended two options - one a short term (in line with our plans) to pump in some Freon and recommended replacing the evaporator coil. We went for the Freon for now. They did the job in a very professional way.
Description of Work: upstairs unit was blowing air but not cooling. Called them to make an appointment and got one for the evening. We changed the appointment date time twice and also the purpose of the visit as we were in the middle of evaluating other options and were not sure whether we should go for a short term fix given our long term plans. The company was quite flexible and they arrived on time for the changed appointment (a few hours notice) as well.

I will not call them back again. They recommended repairs to the tune of about $3,000. They said the outside motor was leaking oil. Before I did the repairs I had another company come out and they said I didn't need to do anything right now. They said the oil was normal and I didn't need to replace it or the evaporator coil. The system was totally charged and they said there was a leak. There might be a leak but it is very, very slight. They had 3 different items they priced out and their pricing was about twice as much as another company that came out. I won't say they were being dishonest but I think they were taking advantage of the situation. They price a 3-ton evaporator coil at $2,800 and the other company was putting in a 5-ton coil for less than $2,000. I believe they are taking unnecessary advantage of customers. They were charging over $100 per pound of Freon and they said it needed 3 pounds if I wanted to go that way. The other company said they would charge the whole thing for $100.

They are on Angie's List. I did go online and look at their rating. They did an excellent job. They were timely, efficient and considerate. They gave me a fair price, and overall I was happy and satisfied with the work all the way from the sales person to the installers. I was happy when they came in previously to service my units. Originally, it was on the recommendation of a neighbor that I used them. Then when I joined Angie's List, I saw that they were highly rated and had a good rating level. Then I decided to use them when I found out that one of my upstairs units went out, I had it replaced by them. Everybody did a good job. The guy who does the normal service was prompt, on time, considerate, and did a thorough job. The other guys that came in for the installation were professional as well. I had some other estimates and I bought in some other people. Morrow Mechanical weren't the least expensive, but definitely they weren't the most expensive. They called me back every time they said they were going to call me back. Both the service guy and the installers were on time, and they were here when they said they were going to be. They were very professional. I would use them again in the future.

First, I'm not remembering what the cost was so the amount I entered is my best recall and may be off. My AC was not working when the man from Morrow arrived and it was working when he left. That's exactly what I wanted! Along the way, he provided much information about my system (I'm new to the house). I did ask for and recieved quotes for upgrading my system. Nice guy / knew what he was doing. I was happy with the service and would recommend them.

An initial diagnostic and repair estimate was done on the same day we called. We brought up the possibility of replacement due to the age of the unit - 10 years - and decided to replace. The next day another rep visited us to be sure we had all of the facts and that all of our questions were answered. Work commenced the following morning and was complete in about 5 hours.
Description of Work: Morrow Mechanical completely replaced the upstairs air conditioning unit - both inside and outside components - for our house on very short notice. They also reworked the ducts and rearranged the components in the attic. The new unit certainly performs better than the old unit. It should also be more efficient, but that's difficult to establish conclusively. The crew was mostly very professional and we are very pleased with the end result. Through comparing prices with our neighbors it seems we also got a very good price. We'll definitely be calling them again when our other unit goes out.

Our 15 yr old air conditioner decided to quit and Bryan came out the next morning on time and reported the sad news that a switch on the condenser had fried and that it couldnt be repaired but would need to be replaced. The best way to handle this is to go ahead and replace the coil in the attic as well since it is old and would probably not last long either. We were able to save quite a bit of money on the install with the Angies List coupon plus the purchase of a maintenance plan. The crew came out the next day and installed the unit. We were very happy with the service this company provided and will not hesitate to call them again.
Description of Work: Installed new condensor and evaporator coil

Having tried a couple of other HVAC companies in the past which I did not like, I was very happy with Morrow.
Description of Work: The technician who came out was very nice and helpful. He seemed knowledgeable and found the problem very quickly. We needed a new coil for one of our air conditioners. It was still under warranty. Since Morrow is not a preferred vendor for Lennar, he referred us to someone who works with Lennar which I was very thankful he did. He did not charge me for this visit. I would highly recommend Morrow and would use them in the future.

Excellent. They arrived on time and finished the same day.
Description of Work: They redesigned and replaced the entire heating and a/c duct work in the house. The interior a/c evaporator and heater were move to a more central location to allow a better, even distribution of the flow to each room in the house. The work was done all in one day, so the inconvenience was minimal.
