Mercado Construction

We picked Mercado Construction to perform much needed maintenance on our walkway from our house to the street. We had Belgard pavers installed 13 years ago and, over the years, roots from nearby trees moved some of the pavers with the result that the surface was uneven in many places. In addition, some of the pavers were loose on the steps in the walkway. We noticed that Ricardo Mercado, who owns Mercado Construction, has received excellent ratings on Angie?s List and, being impressed with the write-ups from his customers, we called on Ricardo to repair our walkway. He and his skilled workers did a super job repairing the walkway. When they finished, it looked as good as it did when it was first installed. Ricardo wanted to make sure we were satisfied with the results of their work. We were also impressed with the fact that Ricardo worked with his staff and supervised all the work that was done. Ricardo and his workers had the necessary materials and skills to complete all repairs needed. We highly recommend Mercado Construction Company and will definitely call on them for any additional projects in the future.

We had some old paving stones covering part of our backyard. We wanted to have flagstone put down instead. Ricardo suggested that we use paving stones that look like flagstone instead of the actual flagstone. We took his suggestion. The paving stones are more versatile since we have gas and water lines that run underground across the backyard. If one of those lines had to be repaired, it would be more difficult and costly with real flagstone. Plus the paving stones were less expensive than real flagstone. The paving stones are beautiful! We have 2 water fountains that we wanted to spotlight. Ricardo designed a curving, raised second tier across the back fence line. The water fountains sit up on that raised tier in each corner and are surrounded by container plants. The project turned out great - better than we could have imagined. In the paved area, there is an underground catch basin for underground drainage out to the front street. Ricardo's crew cut paving stones to place over the catch basin's grate. The way the stone were cut just didn't look quite right. We thought about it for a few days but we were not comfortable with how it looked. We contacted Ricardo and he was very responsive. He sent a crew back out and they re-cut stones for over the grate which we appreciate. It looks wonderful now! Ricardo and his crew were all very nice, professional, timely and responsive to our requests. They did a great job and we couldn't be more pleased.

We are very happy with the work. The entire job was done in about a week. The men were polite and professional. They showed up for work each day on time. Everything was cleaned up at the end of every day. Ricardo called every day to be sure we were happy with the work or if we wanted any changes. He returned phone calls in a timely manner. His prices were reasonable and the work quality was first rate. We contacted Ricardo for a price quote and were going to contact others from Angie's list. His other reviews were so positive and he was so professional we did not contact anyone else and we do not regret it. I would recommend Mercado Const. to our neighbors in a second and I would recommend them to you.

Our experience with Ricardo Mercado and his team was wonderful. He arrived on time and he went over with me what was being done. He also came up with the idea to put a border of darker pavers around the patio. They worked very hard all day and when they left they cleaned up everything and even blew off and cleaned our deck. They came back early the next day and completed the job by early afternoon. They even power washed our deck to clean off any of the dirt from the job. Within an hour of leaving a unexpected storm came and washed away some of the cement in between the pavers. Ricardo called immediately and said he would come and replace the cement the next day weather permitting. Ricardo showed up the next day and replaced all of the cement that had washed away. We are very pleased with Ricardo's professionalism and quality of his work. We will definitely use Mercardo Construction again. We absolutely love our new paver patio.

Beautiful resulting product which exceeded my expectations!!! Ricardo was always prompt and professional. He made a very reasonable bid on my project and offered good suggestions on the project design. His crew showed up on time and worked through the entire day and was always courteous and professional. Ricardo communicated with me daily to see if I had questions and if I was happy with the progress and look of the project. The project was completed in less than a week. My neighbors have already complemented me on his work.

Ricardo Mercado was very responsive to my initial inquiry even though it was a small job for him. He came out right away to view the job site and provided suggestions on what stone to use and how it should be installed. I received a written quote and proposed schedule the next day. A few days later Ricardo met us at Champion Stone Company and we picked out the color of stone that we wanted and agreed on an installation time. The crew was a little late arriving which was no problem because Ricardo had called and advised us of the slight delay. The crew was very professional and efficient. They quickly removed and disposed of the old stone and prepared the area for the new border. They skillfully cut the new stone so that it fit together preciously even around the curves. When the installation was finished, they completely cleaned the entire area. Ricardo had supervised the entire process and before leaving he made sure we were completely satisfied with the result. The finished job exceeded our expectations. The suggestions and recommendations that Ricardo had given us turned out to be exactly what we wanted. It was a pleasure dealing with a professional company like Mercado Construction. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone looking for quality and service in concrete or stone work.

My association with Mercado Construction was one of the best business dealings I have experienced. Ricardo Mercado responded quickly to my inquiry, scheduled a visit for an estimate, gave me ideas and suggestions when it was clear that I knew what I didn't want (what I had) but not sure what I DID want. When we decided, he sent me a very clear and detailed estimate. We agreed on the work and price and started scheduling the work. The weather was a significant factor, but Ricardo kept me informed every step of the way (early) when it appeared things might change. When the date arrived for start, he was here before the work crew, finalizing details, going over it one last time. The Crew arrived and began work. They were friendly and professional and worked with such precision. The paving stone fits beautifully and the walkway has beautiful curves. The materials were great quality and so was the workmanship. The flower beds are lovely and they were ready for planting. Everything was spic and span when they departed. The leftover products were stored for future use if I need them. I am extremely happy with the results and the process.

When we purchased the house, we didn't know the original driveway was poured without rebar and it looked just awful. Mercado came out and tore out the old one and put in a new driveway with rebar and it looks just fantastic. I was sort of lost trying to find someone to do my driveway. I contacted 3 contractors and they quoted very high prices, and two out of three would only take cash or check. Ricardo was wonderful. He came out and did the estimate and it was under what I thought it would be, which was great. I checked his references and Angie's List and it was tens across the board. Not only did he do the driveway, but our walkway as well and both were great. Because of how our driveway looked, he already did another driveway in our neighborhood! UPDATE 9.16.2015 In the beginning of August I started noticing hairline cracks. Within the next 6 weeks, numerous cracks have been appearing in the driveway and the walkway. I contacted both Angie's List and the contractor, who did come out and state that he would repair the initial crack for only the concrete and labor cost, which I thought was odd. Since that time, more cracks have occurred, the contractor did come out and say he would take care of the situation when the weather was cooler, but never elaborated what he meant by "take care of" I spoke to a 3rd party concerning these issues, who informed me to contact the concrete company, when I asked Mr. Mercado about the phone number for the company, he has yet to reach me back regarding the issue. Update 2/9/2016 He did what he said he was going to do. He tore up the concrete and poured a new driveway and walkway. As long as the concrete does not crack, I am completely satisfied with them.

I am building a new house that I will move into next month. I did not want the concrete driveway that my builder was going to install. I called Ricardo and one other paver company. I decided to go with Ricardo largely on the basis of Angie's list. We met him first at his supplier. He showed us the various pavers and then took us to a job that he was doing at the time using the same pavers we eventually decided on. He came to my house a couple of times and made suggestions. Ricardo is very professional about his work. His crew was the same. They showed up on time each day and finished the job quicker than I thought they would. Ricardo told me at the end if there are any problems with the pavers he will come back and fix it. This is a large driveway and walkway from my front door to the sideway. They are both beautiful and worth every penny. There is a reason Ricardo is getting all these "A" reviews. He deserves them.

We originally contacted Mercado Construction to discuss the installation of the brick pavers in our back yard in mid January. Ricardo came out within a couple of days to look at the project and give me a quote. He was on time, courteous, and very professional. He helped me decide what would work best for what we were looking for, and explained the entire process. We needed it completed by a certain date, and he told me he could confirm if he would be able to complete it by that date in a couple of days. He emailed and called me to tell me there would be no problem with having it done by our date, and set up a time to come mark off the area. He was able to come a couple of days early, and even finished the entire job before his initial start date! The patio is gorgeous, and exactly what we were looking for. They did an amazing job, and we will definitely recommend them to friends and family... and even use them again in the future! They went above and beyond expectations to ensure we would be happy with their work, and we absolutely are!

We couldn't have asked for better service in communication and performance from any company. Ricardo Mercado is a professional and an all around nice guy. His team arrived at the time and date specified in our contract and diligently worked into the evening on two days to complete this project on time. The crew was very polite, friendly, and experienced. It was so nice to see smiling, nice people! The work was done professionally. They cleaned as they worked, keeping our two streets as nice looking as possible. They performed a couple tasks that weren't included in the contract with no additional charge. Upon completion, Mercado power washed the curbs and streets. Everything looked great when they left! Each homeowner is very happy with Mercado! Thank you!

Ricardo came out the day after I phoned him and gave us an estimate for the patio work. He kept us informed re his schedule and began the work on the stated start date. Ricardo was on site the majority of the time and his crew was great! A couple of the men even returned on Thanksgiving day to remove the framework on the patio. A dependable contractor who does good work! Ricardo and his men did a great job and I would not hesitate to hire them again.

I have to say that Ricardo and his crew were excellent. Ricardo is the owner and he was onsite for 95% of the project. He was very punctual and you could tell that he was going to make sure that the job was done right even offering to do some flagstone work on an office step at no additional charge. I have more work to do in the future and I will definitely be calling Mercado Construction for a quote.

I cannot say enough good things about Ricardo Mercado and his team. Hands down, the best experience I've ever had with a service provider in terms of home remodel and repair. He is highly responsive, keeping you in the loop with what he is doing on a regular basis. He exceeds his commitments on timeline, both in terms of when a job starts and when it is completed. His team is very nice, and quite considerate in terms of keeping the noise down and keeping the work site clean. The end product is beautiful, and has made a meaningful difference in terms of the appearance of our home. Ricardo also personally guarantees the work, insisting that you call him directly if you need anything done should problems occur with the work. Mercado Construction is the only provider you should consider when having patio, porch, stone, etc work done at your home. I would use them again enthusiastically.

Every neighbor in the neighborhood has completed me because of the brick planners they have never seen and I would consider him one of the top concrete workers in Huston.

Everything started very smoothly - Ricardo Mercada came out and we discussed the project. We started in January when the outdoor construction business is traditionally slow. This project was somewhat unusual in that the scope of it grew from the first estimate Ricardo gave us, but he was very flexible and continually adjusted the work that needed to be done. The project was also challenging, in that after 25 years of NOT being in the 100 year flood plain, we now are. Getting building, drainage, and pool permits from the City of Houston was maddening. There was a lot of additional work required by Ricardo and the other contractors working the project to satisfy the City and pass inspection. And there was a lot of "down time" while we waited for inspectors, or had to make some correction and then wait again for a new inspection. Ricardo was good natured through it all, and whatever was required of him, he had the crew to take care of it. We opted to hire a landscape architect to design the patio and new landscaping and manage the individual contractors. We got 6 bids, and 4 of them were from large companies who would have managed the entire project. By hiring the landscape architect and working with individual contractors, we figure we saved at least 30% overall.

It was all really good. The owner, Ricardo, actually came out and did the quote. He gave me advice and he was extremely professional. I would use them again if I would need another project like this.

Great. Ricardo and team had a several week backlog but scheduled in advance on came on the day scheduled. He and team showed up on time and worked quickly, finishing the project in less than a full day. Both areas look fantastic. He was able to work with me on price and let me purchase materials that he then picked up. Overall a great experience.

Ricardo did an outstanding job on an outdoor grill for our house. We had just moved in to our house and wanted someone to build a grill that would utilize the same brick as our house with a granite countertop. We needed it about 8 ft long to accomodate a gas grill, a side burner, then an opening large enough to store a smoker. We already had a gas stub out where the grill was to go, so just needed someone to pull it all together and Ricardo and his team did just that. He had someone build out the brick area first. Then the granite guy came and measured what was needed, and brought samples for us to choose from. Once they brought the granite, they cut it onsite for a perfect fit. Then it was just a matter of having someone setup the gas & electric to the grill. Throughout the process, Ricardo continued to check-in to ensure everything was going like planned. We would definitely use Ricardo and Mercado Construction again. They were all very professional and wanted to ensure they did a good job!

Ricardo and the team did a great job installing a small patio pad covered with brick for my garage area to set my generator on. They installed a 4 x 12 pad for me. Ricardo was very prompt and punctual when he came to visit the job and kept his commitment with his appointments. He had good ideas and helped me to scope my job properly. During the install, we were short a few bricks to complete the job but Ricardo was able to find a creative solution which was helpful. I'm very happy with the service and quality of the job, they did a great job cleaning up afterwards as well. I would recommend Ricardo and his team to my neighbors.

Ricardo and his team installed some pavers and a portion of driveway for me approximately 2 years ago. They did a first class job. So good, that the plumbers were unable to remove the pavers without destroying many of them during a sewer line replacement. The sewer line was located beneath the pavers and had to be replaced. I hoped that the pavers could be removed and salvaged but Ricardo's team installed them so professionally and tight that they were like one solid expanse. I described the situation to Ricardo and he was very accommodating. I was anxious to get the pavers replaced as quickly as possible because the area is used for parking and created a safety hazard. He and team did the work on a Saturday and did a beautiful job. Ricardo found the exact same pavers and the match is perfect. The crew installed them perfectly. The area looks exactly like it did before the pavers were removed. The crew cleaned everything up and I could not be happier. Ricardo is fair and honest. He worked with me on the price of the work to make sure we both thought it was fair. He is responsive and takes pride in his work and keeping the customer happy. This was a very small project, but Ricardo treated me the same as he did during the original project which was 20 times larger. He truly does care about his customers and reputation. I would encourage anyone to use Mercado Construction without hesitation.

The owner was very professional. He's the person to talk to. He's open to ideas and what our needs are. He's also been able to make some recommendations to us. So far, it's been very positive. He's very good at being responsive to me. There was somebody else that I called and they called me back and said they were coming out, and then I never did hear from them. I was hanging here, waiting for a whole day. But Mercado was good, very much so. He was right on time.

Mr. Mercado work was outstanding. He showed up on time and made subtle recommendations that made a difference. We are very please with the work and would not hesitate to use him again. His crew was very professional and friendly. The removed all the trash and cleaned up afterwards. I expect to use him again very soon for our driveway.
