The crew was punctual, neat, and cleaned up after themselves. When Mr. Mercado came to look over the project he brought product books with him so that we could look at different choices for the walkway and he had helpful suggestions on how the project could be done. Mr. Mercado either answered his phone each time I called or returned my call in a few minutes. Everything they did looks great. I would use them again and recommend them to my friends.

It could not have gone better! Ricardo was professional, timely and courteous when providing my estimate. His crew was timely, friendly and hard working. They did a fantastic job and tidied up thoroughly once the job was completed. I am really enjoying my beautiful new patio!

I have only asked for a quote at this point. I have yet to hear from them.

I needed a parking area in front of a 1920's bungalow I'm restoring in the Heights. The house sits on a very busy 4 lane street. The project involved cutting into the street to tie in an extra wide driveway. A big concern for me was obtaining the proper permits from the City of Houston and complying with applicable codes. I spoke with at least 3 other contractors in addition to Mercado Construction about this project . The other contractors assured me they had experience dealing with the City. The owner of Mercado Construction, Ricardo, was very upfront and honest and told me he did not have a lot of experience dealing with City of Houston permits. In the end, I chose to work with Ricardo anyway because he was by far the most professional, courteous, and responsive of all the contractors. I really trusted him, and sensed he would be a good person to work with. I'm glad I chose him. Ricardo went the extra mile to work with the City and make sure the project was properly permitted. He collaborated with me on the permitting process and we worked as a team for the final plans and approvals. Ricardo is an excellent communicator and easy to work with. He worked hard and used tact to overcome obstacles to my original plan and produce a satisfactory result. Ricardo's crew started on-time and finished the entire project much sooner than I had anticipated. The crew was obviously very experienced and skilled at their craft. The quality of workmanship was very high. His crew are true craftsman and not just some men picked up that day on Shepherd. Ricardo was present during most of the project and made sure everything was done properly, even though it was obvious his crew knew what they were doing. The finished product was exactly what I wanted and of very high quality. The concrete was finished professionally and looks great. The pavers were installed tight and level with no obvious gaps or protrusions. I am used to seeing thin plastic or metal edging to retain the perimeter of pavers, but Ricardo uses a foot wide section of concrete at least 6 inches deep to retain the perimeter. The last row of pavers is set an inch or two in this concrete, with the top half of the pavers above the concrete. This produces an "invisible" retaining wall which is VERY stable and will last a lifetime. It's a nice clean look that requires much more effort and craftsmanship than merely pounding in unsightly edging. I really appreciated this extra level of craftsmanship. After the work was completed, Ricardo and his crew pressure-washed the entire area including the existing driveway which was not really part of the project. The work site was spot-less and you could not tell the construction was recent since they cleaned everything up so well. I would HIGHLY recommend Mercado Construction to anyone. Ricard is everything you want in a contractor. He is honest, dependable, timely, communicates well, personable, caring, and employs a top-notch crew. He produces a very high quality product at a reasonable price and cares about customer satisfaction.

All the work was well done. The patio drains very well in heavy rains. We had to quit in the middle of the job because of HOA problems, but Mercado was very understanding and finished the job later after we had cleared up the issues. His prices were roughly comparable to two other estimates we received.

They did an excellent job! It turned out great! Ricardo, the owner, met us once to show us pictures and give us a quote. He was not pushy in the least. We then set up a time (after hours on a Sunday) to choose the exact stones he was going to use in our patio. We were quite indecisive but he was very patient and helped us make the right decision. The next week they were doing the installation. Everything was done on time exactly as he planned with except to a minor delay due to weather. They were very punctual on all visits. I feel the quality was very good and Ricardo was very easy and pleasant to work with. I would definitely recommend him and his company to anyone.

We got three bids on this work before we decided on a contractor. Actually, it took us almost a year to make a decision. Mr. Mercado was the best price with a great attitude. He started just when he said he would and completed the work in the time frame he promised. Our main concern was drainage because we have had problems in the past with water not draining correctly. He did a very fine job of making sure that would not be an issue. He was friendly, accessible, polite and we were very impressed with his hard work and excellent quality of workmanship. I would definitely use him again. He can work for us any time.
