They knew exactly what the problem was...I had broken the lid switch on a top load washer by allowing the door to slam down. Gave me an immediate price and fixed it immediatly. I was very pleased with service and would definitely recommend!!

His rates are low and he does not do unnecessary work. If he feels the repair is not necessary at the time he tells you to let it go until it is. It is not hard to get him over to do the work.

Appliance Rescue is fabulous. They do what they say they will do, got the parts needed, showed up when they said they would and got the job done.
Description of Work: Two other service companies, one through insurance and the other the manufacturer could not repair the problem. After the other two companies were unable to fix the problem I doubted it could be fixed. Appliance Rescue immediately repaired my refrigerator with absolutely no hassle

Alan showed up on time and was accurate on his estimate and time estimation. Additionally, the top oven of my ancient double oven had stopped working. Alan showed me a simple button setting that made the unit operational for no additional fee. My wife was previously charged $90 by a different repair tech to point out the switch for the Dishwasher, so Alan's helpful attitude was refreshing. Two months later my cloths washer stopped draining on a Saturday morning. We had just started the first load of the usual weekend seven. When I called Alan, he was not available until Tuesday, so after discussing what I was seeing, he told me what part to go buy. I was able to fix it myself and get back to the weekend chores. He did not make a dime off of that repair, but he certainly earned my appreciation and loyalty.

Alan came out to check my washer and dryer, initially to see if my washer could be repaired and to give the dryer a checkup. He came out within a day of my call; was on time; very professional; checked out the washer and told me it would be pushing $400 to fix it, recommended purchase of a new one. He recommended washers that would be economical (within my price range) and yet efficient and dependable. As for the dryer, he said it needed a tuneup for anywhere from $160 to $275 and it might not be practical to spend that kind of money, that we'd probably want to get a new one. When I told him we wouldn't be able to replace it anytime soon, he took it upon himself to clean the dryer out and lubricate it so it would stay working as long as possible for me.
Description of Work: Checked out the washer and gave an estimate for it to be fixed, advising of replacement instead. Checked out the dryer and also suggested replacement. Alan took it upon himself to clean and lubricate the dryer to keep it working as long as possible without expensive repairs.

This is the second time I have used Alan at Appliance Rescue. First time, the tumble dryer heater had stopped. This time, the 4 year old integral icemaker had stopped producing ice. The 20 month old dishwasher suddenly stopped working and displayed an "ER" message. We were unable to clear the error message. So we made an appointment for the following day. That night my GE oven (unknown age) suddenly started beeping and we were unable to clear it. Alan arrived about 20 minutes before the scheduled time. I explained we had an additional problem, and he started to pull fronts off the appliances to diagnose. Once diagnosed, he called his 2 suppliers to get prices, and negoiated with both of them and reduced the price on each piece. Alan gave me a written quote for $560 - replace the ice-maker ($130); touch pad on the oven ($185); and control board on the dishwasher ($110) plus $100 labor. He was able to replace the ice-maker that day. I paid $230 as a deposit. He called the following day as the parts had arrived and he came the next day. Paid the balance. That night, the dishwasher stopped working again and gave another Error Message. Called Alan on a Saturday afternoon and he came out on Monday morning. Diagnosed the touch pad on the dishwasher had also failed. Ordered the replacement part, gave me a written quote of $125. Part came in and Alan replaced it on Friday afternoon. Paid $123.25 ($100 parts, $15 shipping, $8.25 tax) - Alan did not charge for any labor for the second problem. He always arrived 20-30 minutes before the scheduled time. He is a very personable and friendly character, who knows his stuff, and was great around my children who were all home on summer break. Will definitely call again (hopefully not too soon!) and will recommend to friends.

I broke the knob on my Siemens range. It took calling several places to even find someone who would work on this brand. AR walked me through finding the model number on my range so he could look for the correct part. Then he called back and said it had to be ordered and would be in in a couple of weeks. It was and as soon as it was in, he called and scheduled an appointment. It was scheduled for 11 a.m on Friday. I was out at the grocery story when my husband (who happened to be off that day) called to say that the job had been done and how did I want to pay. If my husband had not been home, no one would have been here since he arrived 2 hours earlier than scheduled. However, for me that was good. My husband is extremely picky about any service being done since he is the ultimate perfectionist at "do it your selfer". He was very happy about the quality of work. I am happy that all the knobs on my stove work!

Called Alan and he promptly called me back. He was on-time and very courteous. He gave me an estimate. He had to order the part, so it took about a week to come in. He came back when he said he would. He fixed the oven and it's working great now. The actual cost ($161) ended up being less than the estimate ($200). I like this guy. He's honest and I feel like you can trust him. He knows what he's doing and he does good work. I'll definitely call him again when I have trouble with my appliances.

My freezer and refrigerator started getting warm (ice cream melted!), so I called this shop to explain my problem. He suggested it was the defrost controller and agreed to come out at a time that was convenient to me. He showed up on time (actually a few minutes early) and replaced the suspected part. The appliance has performed flawlessly since.

Alan was called in the afternoon on Thursday 10/1/09 and was there on Friday afternoon. Replaced the two rollers that were making such an awful noise, but did not have the parts to repair the fan motor right away. He scheduled an appointment for the following Monday and finished the job. He took care of the major problem so I could use my dryer over the weekend, and then repaired the potential additional problem the very next week. He was polite, knowledgeable, and fast. He took the time to show me the issues and had me involved in the decision process. I asked if the belt was in need of replacement, and after examining it, told me it was not an issue. He did not repair anything that didn't need it, although he thoroughly looked a all parts of the dryer, and made sure that I knew exactly what he was doing. He did not charge me at all until the all work was complete.

I couldn't ask that it go any better. He was on time, he is professional, he knows his business. This is the second time I've employed his services and it won't be the last. This company is one that others can learn from.
Description of Work: He fixed my Kitchenaid dishwasher. It had been leaking and one of the spray arms was wobbling. He diagnosed the leak problem as the pump, and fixed it; he had to research the spray arm part back at his shop with manufacturer's parts' lists and order a small thing that had broken. He did the first service call on Monday and returned Thursday with the spray arm part.

After having to wait 4 days for an appointment and then being stood up by the Sears repair technician who was supposed to arrive the day before we contacted Appliance Rescue to request an urgent service call. Alan, the owner of the company arrived that afternoon, even earlier than promised as he knew how anxious we were to finally get the dryer repaired. He quickly diagnosed the problem and had the necessary part already stocked on his service truck so we did not have to wait for any parts. He accomplished a job within 5 hours that Sears could not do in 5 days! AND his prices were less than the Sears service price. Alan was friendly, prompt and efficient. Great customer service. We would definitely recommend him to anyone needing appliance repair in our area.

I wish that he had called sooner and that he had disclosed not just the problem with the oven, but also disclosed the additional cost to repair the Subzero. When I asked him if he could document the difference between the cost of the Subzero part between the initial bid and the two weeks when he asked for more money, he refused and said that he would not show me his cost on parts. He suggested I find someone else for the repair. It is my impression that he asked for more money because he thought that I would agree to the higher cost after spending two weeks without a freezer compartment. I don't think that is fair, reasonable and professional to provide a client with a written quote, accept credit card payment, and then not honor the bid.
Description of Work: I accepted Alan's $750 bid to repair my Subzero freezer and Kitchenaid wall oven, and gave him my credit card. Two weeks later I called him to check on the status of the job and in response to a voicemail left on my home phone that he needed to talk to me about the oven repair. He told me that he could not get the part for my oven and that the Subzero freezer repair alone was going to be $800, instead of the $750 on the bid for the parts and repair of the two appliances.

Response from Appliance Rescue Service
SHE IS CORRECT THAT I HAD TO CHANGE MY ORIGINAL BID. THAT IS WHY IT IS CALLED AN ESTIMATE. I DID NOT LIKE TO DO SO BUT WAS SURPRISED BY THE FACTORY COST OF A NEW COMPRESSOR. I DID NOT HOWEVER CHARGE HER ANYTHING. HER CREDIT CARD WAS NEVER CHARGED FOR ANYTHING, NOT EVEN A SERVICE CALL. THE 2 WEEK DELAY IS ALSO INCORRECT. THIS EVENT OCCURRED OVER AN 8 DAY PERIOD. 3 DAYS OF WHICH SHE HADN'T RETURNED MY CALL TO HER. I CALLED HER AS SOON AS I FOUND OUT THE DOOR HINGES WERE NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND LEFT A MESSAGE STATING THAT I NEEDED HER TO CONTACT ME. I DID RECOMMEND THAT SHE FIND A DIFFERENT CONTRACTOR AS I HAD LOST HER TRUST. I UNDERSTAND HER DISAPPOINTMENT AND AM SORRY I WAS UNABLE TO BE EVERYTHING TO HER SHE HAD COME TO EXPECT FROM THIS SITE. The Tuesday before Thanksgiving (yes it was being held at my house), I discovered that my oven wasn't heating. I had self-cleaned the oven the day before. I called Alan at Appliance Rescue Service, and even though he was totally booked, he made an appointment for after hours that same day. When I told him the problem, he seemed to think he knew right what the problem was. He arrived shortly before the appointment time, quickly took apart the wall oven and determined it was the thermal fuse, which was then quickly replace. He was here maybe 20 minutes, our oven was fixed and he was on his way. Alan was professional and personable and explained that we should set the oven on the lowest time allowed for the self cleaning to avoid the problem in the future. He also gave us the information needed for us to repair the door hinges. We will be calling him again if we need large appliance work done.

The entire service call went smoothly start to finish. I generally dread calling service people, because I feel vulnerable and stupid. They have you at a disadvantage even in your own home and it's a terrible feeling. I didn't feel that way this time and appreciated it. Had the fridge been fixable I probably would have done the repair, but instead we replaced it. The new one is great, he did us an indirect favor by telling us that old one was a goner.
Description of Work: Alan came to the house, examined our side-by-side Frigidaire and explained the problem to be one which would be expensive to fix and not a repair that he could guarantee. It would cost about $400, for a repair on a 11-year old unit, that might or might not last. I greatly appreciated his straightforward approach, since even $400 is cheaper than a new fridge. I asked his informed opinion on what's the better brand to replace it with, and got some advice that helped me when we went into the shopping arena to get the new one. I would definitely call him when the next appliance goes on the blink.

Absolutely excellent - even though he couldn't fix our ancient washing machine, he was honest about not being able to do the repair, took back the part he purchased but didn't use and only charged me the minimum 1 visit service fee of $30.00. Alan was helpful, courteous and very service oriented. I would recommend him to anyone needing an appliance serviced.
Description of Work: Alan showed up on time, was courteous, and inspected our extremely old washing machine. He originally diagnosed the problem as a faulty motor, priced a new one, ordered it and returned 3 days later with the parts. Once the new motor was installed, it was found the old motor was fine and the timer was broken. Alan truthfully reported the timer is no longer available, took back the new, unused motor and only charged me the original $30 for the service call. He did not try to sell me unnecessary parts or unnecessary repairs - when he couldn't fix it, he made it clear he couldn't fix it and kept his fees to an outstandingly reasonable fee. He also pumped out the old water left in the washer so it was easier to move. He was excellent and I would highly recommend his services.

I called Appliance Rescue and Alan made an appointment for the next day at MY convenience. He was here right on time, had to get a part, came back the next day and repaired the dryer. A couple days later, the dryer had an additional problem. Alan came back, again right on time, fixed it and did not charge me for the 2nd visit. ALAN HAS BEEN HERE FOR THREE REPAIRS NOW AND HE IS ALWAYS PROMPT, PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONABLE. HE DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB, EXPLAINS THE PROBLEM SO THAT I CAN UNDERSTAND IT, OBJECTIVELY GIVES ME THE OPTIONS ON WHETHER TO GO AHEAD WITH THE REPAIR (CONSIDERING THE COST), HE CHARGES A FAIR PRICE - I HAVE FOUND IT TO BE LESS THAN OTHERS; AND I WILL DEFINITELY CALL HIM FIRST FOR ANY APPLIANCE REPAIR.
