Berkeys Air Conditioning Plumbing & Electrical

My husband changed from the maintenance program offered by our previous company to Berkeys' maintenance plan after searching for a more competitive price and service. The AC and plumbing technicians arrived separately within the time frame provided. Both were friendly and polite. They did not try to sell us new systems or services, which was a welcome change. Everything is automated, and the service reports were emailed promptly to my husband's account. So far, so good.

My AC unit went out over the weekend and called Berkeys for some one to come out and look at the unit and give me a quote to fix it. Since it was the weekend it was $150 service call. The service provider made his appointment on time and was very professional in his appearance and properly evaluated the issue. I had an idea what the issue was (a locked up AC motor) and had researched the cost of AC motors before Berkeys arrived. I was willing to pay 2 to 3 times the cost of the motor to have it replaced. The cost of the service call and to have the motor replaced was 8 times the cost of the motor. Caveat Emptor. I didn't let the Berkeys person know that I knew what the cost of an AC motor. I feel that they were trying to gouge me because it was a weekend call. You do NOT build trust that way. In the end I fixed the AC motor myself. I bought one at Grainger and had a reasonable AC company assist me in the wiring and my AC works fine at one- eighth the cost of what Berkeys was going to charge me. I will not call Berkeys ever again.

They caught the leak just in time one more day and we would have had a gusher in the front yard. I found them on Angie's list they called in 2 hours after hours and were at the home at 8 in the morning. When all was side and done they were done by 2 pm.

It was part of a maintenance deal. We were not 100 percent pleased. He was really trying to push up to get a few things. We looked him up in Angie's list and he had good ratings. Overall we have not been thrilled.

The installation went well and they’ve done a good job maintaining it. They’re a good company and we use them often! They cleaned up well after the installation (they always do) and they’re very friendly. They were very knowledgeable and helpful in answering my questions.

We've used them several times, and we're always pleased with them. The price is reasonable and I'm satisfied with the quality of the maintenance.

The person who came out was a fast talker. He said previous service company had not tighten freon valve so some had leaked out. He had loosened the valve himself. The men who installed new system did a good job and were very nice. The unit had a rebate which I discovered on manufacturer's website. We were not told about rebate when given the price. When questioned about rebate latter, salesman told us it was included in price. This was never told to us nor shown anywhere on estimate. I felt there was deception. We should have gotten another bid. If you do business with this company I would insist on itemized bid with product numbers for each individual product.

Was very prompt in arrival time and did call when he was on his way. Made a few recommendations and I followed through on the most important one, since I have a Home Warranty contract currently. Not sure if it's worth it any more, but would use Berkey's regardless.

We got a second quote to compare - $795.00 Needless to say, we did not go with Berkey's This is my second experience with angie's list and neither have gone well. Will also not be using Angie's list anymore.

Needed a plumber to fix a leaky shower... Representative tried to sell me a handle damaged during the repair and quoted me $175.00 to replace the handle.... I purchased a handle at Fergusons for $29.00.

We have been very satisfied with their service. We like the people that they send out as we used them once before for plumbing. The cost is reasonable and we just really like using their service.

I was contacted promptly after scheduling online. Service was scheduled and technician called and let me know about what time he expected to be there. Technician called me when he was on the way and approx what time he would arrive. Technician was prompt and wore shoe covers. Then I walked him to the repair. My manifold was leaking inside of my wall behind the toilet. I had the wall cut open and it was accessible from both the bathroom and the laundry room. There are no shut off valves for this except to cut off the water from the house. It was explained to me from the initial Berkey rep that I would have to pay a 150.00 emergency fee. It was late. Approx 9-10pm when i called. For me definitely understandable. I have been in the service industry for while so was prepared for either $99 or more. He requested that I cut on the water so he could verify what was occuring. I did and he did. He then mentioned that he could try to resolder the joints but all water needed to be evacuated from the system. I had the system drained prior to having to show him the actual symptoms. Once again I understand this piece of the process. Then he said let me go to my truck and work some numbers. Right then I said to myself uh ohh. But again I understand he saw the problem and needed to do some caculations. Now here I will state that on this manifold there is 1 3/4 X3/4 X1/2 tee, a street elbow (elbow goes straight into tee instead of using pipe), another 3/4 X 3/4 X 1/2 tee all above the slab and only leaking on one of the 3/4 X 3/4 X 1/2 tee on two sides. There was brazing rod on one of the 3/4 sides from a previous repair but it was leaking and the other 3/4 side was leaking. The leaks were not spraying and I thought they could have been resoldered/brazed but once again I understand. He has a process. OK. Here is point of even writing this review. When he came back into the house and told me that it would cost me $855.00 (this includes dispatch fee) it took my breath away. I dont think I showed it. I said here is my debit card. Charge the 150 and thanks for coming. $850 for two leaks on the same tee. OK $850 wasnt my only option. After my apparent sticker shock it was that or 89 for the dispatch, 99 for the maintenance plan (you know that one, we check you plumbing, and your air conditioning xxx times per year for 2 yrs plan) the 528 repair leak is not 449 and the difficult space minor went from 177 to 151. He did mention that he could possible waive the space Minor charge but by then I had already heard 855.00 for a wall I tore out, and copper that I cleaned and exposed for easy access. But that is my fault for assuming that meant something in the scheme of things. I guess I just didnt realize that the cost of plumbing services went up so much. I cant say Berkeys did anything bad or that they are a bad choice. Just be prepared for that sticker shock. I was not. I told the technician I would call another company today because there had to be a company out there that was less expensive but provided the same service. Instead of looking (now I figure there all the same) I took today off, got 2 brazing rods and my B tank, Brazed every joint on entire manifold and fixed in 1hr. I understand everyone cant do this but I do wish this was an option. ?????????855.00??????????????????? Sorry so long but it said "we want all the details"

I must have called 4/5 different plumbers. Fortunately I had never had the need for a plumber, but unfortunately I didn't have a pre-existing relationship with one, so no one wanted to help me with my emergency leak. Out of all the plumbers I called Berkeys was the only one who actually answered the phone personally vs a machine, and out of the messages I left no one else even returned my call. I am now a happy Berkeys customers and purchased their service plan so they've gain a long term customer. Thank you!!!

I called Berkey's to provide an estimate for replacing my 15 year old condenser unit for my upstairs with a new unit that is similar to the new Lennox Elite condenser for my downstairs HVAC system. The person submitting the quote gave two different options of a 13 SEER and 14 SEER unit. The quote did not specify that the quoted units were not Lennox elite units. The quote only specified "Value" for the 13 SEER or "Deluxe" for the 14 SEER unit. These designations do not correspond to any models listed on Lennox's website. He also recommended installing another return air duct for an additional $500 which I thought was extremely high for installing one air duct. I was also told that they could "work with me on the price". They did end up taking $250 off of the price to bring the total to $3500 for just installing the condenser. This seemed more like buying a used car than an HVAC service for my liking however. The real problem came after I walked out to see the unit after it was installed. It is a Lennox condenser, but not an Elite model and certainly looks nothing like the other condenser that it sits beside. The installers were knowledgeable and professional. They had to run an additional thermostat wire from the condenser to the air handler inside. They ran conduit up the side of the house and ended it short of the eave. They smeared a bunch of caulk between the conduit and the eave to make the connection between the two. That was my only installation complaint other than the actual unit was different than what I requested and what I expected to get.

I called to find out pricing for putting a camera down the plumbing line in one of our bathrooms. I got a complete runaround from the office staff. I was told over and over they can't give pricing on the phone. Then I was told the technician decides the pricing depending on the extent of the repair. I never asked for the cost of the repair. I asked what the fee was for putting the camera down. Again, I was told we can't discuss pricing. She said we have no way of knowing what it is going to cost until we see the extent of the repair. I explained again, that I just want to know what it would cost for the camera... that I need to know if it is going to be $150 or more like $600 so I would know how much money I might need to have ready. SO, they want me to agree to have them out for the $69 (which by the way they do know is JUST the service call) not knowing how much it is going to cost to put the camera down the line. I'm disappointed because all of my experiences have been so great with Angie's List.

I spoke to Kathy Skates @ Berkey today, referred by a friend, and she was VERY nice and professional! Knew just what I wanted, explained it very well and setup an appointment for my first service later this month (a specific date I requested, they were able to accommodate). THANK YOU KATHY!

We called Berkey's because we had used them before in an emergency. They were the only plumbers who had people available that time, and I would recommend them only for such emergencies. This time we had a slow leak in the water main under the 1/4 mile easement road between the house and the city meter. The plumber who came out did not want to just fix the leak; he wanted to dig up 12' of the road and reroute the lines, which would cost $2700. I ended up calling another plumber who repaired the leak for $575. My issue with Berkey's is that they would not provide or consider a "plan B". They wanted to get me on the hook for a huge repair when we might not be able to do that. So they have lost my regular business because of their lack of responsiveness to their customers expressed needs.

They identified the problem as the electronics to the water heater. Researched that it was still under warranty. Had the part the next day and made the exchange. The charge was for labor only.

They responded well to call for selling but were late getting the work done. Need to be more prompt on getting work done after they make a sale. Very nice workmanship and cleaned up after themselves.

I felt like from the beginning I was trying to be sold on something much more expensive. There is construction that has been going on for about a year on our street. Water was leaking up out of the sidewalk so I had the city cut the water off. The Town of Flower Mound said the leak was behind the meter so we had to pay for it. So I called Berkey's. The water was cut off on a Sunday evening and it was Monday around 3:00 PM when Berkey's arrived which was okay. But I could not say the cost was too much because then I would have another day of no water. The crew working on the street dug the hole to find where the leak was. So when Berkey's arrived the leak was already detected. When they made the fix water leaked out of the meter. So the city had to come back the next day and fix that and fill the hole back up. The cost was $528 with part of the work stating excavating the area. The only thing they had to do was replace the elbow. No digging or covering back up the hole. I feel the cost should have been adjusted somewhat.

The staff was polite, the Tech did a great job. He was quick and effecient. I will do business with Berkey's again for sure!

I had water back up in 2 toilets, bathtub & shower at 3 AM, so waited until 6 to check Angie's & found Berkeys. They had good reviews & A at Better Business Bureau. Called them & they showed up right away. Plumbers & office staff were very nice & accommodating. My concern is the cost.The biggest cost of the $4200 was the excavation of trench (6 ft. long, 6 ft. deep, 2 ft. wide). They charged $2291.00 for 3 workers for 4 hrs. digging. The backfill was $549.00 for 2 workers for 2 hrs. I might use them in the future, but would get other estimates if it required any excavation.

The initial request was to have someone come and repair the leak that was discovered, replace 3 water line valves and make sure the toilet flange was in good shape since we were re-tiling the floor. The technician came to the hose and gave us a $1300+ estimate for the labor and told us we would have to go buy a new shower valve kit and a new toilet in addition to the labor cost. The price seemed outrageous for the little amount of work that was to be done. It translated to approximately $300 per hour for labor. His explanation was that he was giving us a below average price for the work. We settled on just capping off the copper pipes and I would consider the rest of the work. Just to cap off the pipes he charged $254 plus the service call of $69 (less the $50 Angieslist coupon) for a total of $273. The technician capped the two pipes and didn't bother to check anything else and flooded our bathroom when he turned on the water to the house. This of course, ran down the walls into the formal dining room soaking the sheetrock on the ceiling and the wood floor. His comment was I am sorry you had that happen to you. I stopped payment on the check until we figure out how much other damage was caused by this plumber. I also called Berkeys and told them I would be stopping payment on the check and they could call me back with their decision as to who will be coming back out to fix the problem. I have not heard back from the company. The professionalism of this person and how he goes about his work will prevent me from ever call them again for help.

He arrived promptly, completed the service in a timely manner and gave tips for maintenance I can do during the year. He was very personable and professional and represents Berkeys well.

This has been a troublesome drain. Wanted it scoped but was told that could not be done due to configuration. Snake did not work either. Poured acid down drain, will see if that keeps it clear. All in all they have been very good with every issue I have had, plumbing and A/C.
