Berkeys Air Conditioning Plumbing & Electrical

We called Berkeys late on a Friday evening and they had someone to our house the next day (on a Saturday) by mid-day. The person who answered the phone was courteous and professional- we have had some negative experiences with calling other "emergency" A/C providers after hours so this was especially appreciated. The technician was knowledgeable, professional, and thorough in his service. We would use their services again and would recommend them as an A/C/HVAC service provider.

First I have to say we used Berkeys last week and there was some miscommunication. Gail at Berkeys called and we got everything straightened out so I was happy to use them again. 3:30 am a water filter busted under the sink. Fortunately I happened to be up and caught it. The shut off valve would not work so I had to shut the water off at the street. Having just used Berkeys I called them again at 4am. At 5am Corey showed up. This guy is an awesome technician. He assessed the problem, gave me an estimate and started to work. He was working under difficult conditions and was a trooper. He fixed the issue and finally got to go home about 9am. His expertise and work ethic impressed me. He suggested a water clean up crew, asked if it was ok to contact them, called them and arranged for them to come out right away. He was professional, courteous and very pleasant to work with. I want to say thank you to Gaye for her outstanding customer service and to Corey for his excellence in this horrible situation. Berkeys now has a customer for life.

They were responsive and punctual. The were very expensive and were always trying to sell something more. After getting a second estimate on one of our units we realized how much we had over paid for the coil and the capacitor. We had bought their service inspection package thinking this would save us money over the long haul. After our initial inspection we immediately began having more problems with our units. Their 'fixes' were always expensive and we were often pressured to replace entire units in the amount of $25K each! My second estimate even noted that one of the compressors had not been cleaned off which was supposed to be part of the Berkeys inspection. After our unfortunate experience with Berkey's we have been using Al with Excel Heating and Air. We have been very pleased with the service as well as the cost.

My husband sent a message stating we needed assistance late Monday night. They responded early the next morning and said they could have someone out later today. They lady on the phone said something about signing up for Berkey's Club. Now my husband recently had surgery and was not operating on a lot of sleep. He didn't understand everything the lady was explaining so she said the service tech would explain when he got there. She also explained we would receive our invoice through email so an email address was provided. The service man arrived in the arranged time frame. He was informed we had recently had a handyman out here to clear what should have been an easy fix. It was also explained the the handyman went on the roof to try to clear the blockage in the stack but lost his snake done the tube. The service guy then told us how we should never use a handyman for anything, especially plumbing. He stated that he thought they may be good for somethings but he had no idea what those somethings could be. He went to take a look at the problem and came back with an estimate. The estimate was not broken down but there were 2 prices listed next to the work listed. One price was circled for $362.00. The service man pointed to the $362.00 and said this will be the cost with the Berkey Club. This was $100.00 cheaper than the other estimate and so it was approved. The service tech was quick and good. He had the problem fixed in about 1/2 hr. After the job was finished he brought in a bill for $462.00. I said the estimate was for $362 and he said but you signed up for the Berkey Club and that is $99.00. I said but you said the 362.00 included the Berkey Club and he said I'm sorry but you misunderstood what I said. I paid him his money but I was not happy about it. Later in the evening I received the invoice for $462.00 and remembered the conversation and the ad here on Angie's List. No real information was provided about the Berkey Club so both of us are very unclear about this. The ad here also stated there was a coupon for $55 off plumbing work for first time customers. That was not on the invoice either. We subscribe to Angie's List to avoid problems such as this and we are extremely disappointed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An update to the previous review: Berkey's contacted us and the issue was resolved. Work with the company was good, they were on time and excellent costumer service. I felt comfortable with them in my home. The negative side of this experience was price they they charged me to fix my doorbell and install the faucet.

The air conditioner service tech was very professional and knowledgeable. He did a very good job. I am thinking about using his services again in the future.

It went great. I was panicked when I called because the water would not stop. The person in the office was very understanding and sent someone out as soon as she could. She understood what I was going through. The first gentlemen came out on June 9 to stop the water leak. He was a gentleman through and through. Very polite and very professional. Did a great job fixing the commode. His name was Bryce. The second time was when I wanted to get a new commode. Again, the gentleman who came was very polite, had several different commodes to pick from with several different prices. I picked the one I wanted and he did a great job also in installing it. His name was Tommy. I would recommend Berkey's to anyone. Good experience from the first phone call all the way until both jobs were finished.

Professional and courteous. Always get good service from them. They installed my new unit approx. 1 1/2 years ago and the regular maintenance twice a year is a good deal with the BAM plan. They come out twice a year for $99 to perform tune-ups. I have my 6-month filter on hand and they replace it for me (in the attic).

Quick call back and appointment scheduling was easy. Worker arrived on-time, and provided free estimate.

My experience was fine. They were great.

It was a much more complicated job than it was for an ordinary change out because of the design of our house. Tankless hot water heaters have to have all kinds of safeguard and override. In fact the inspectors are coming tomorrow from Highland Village and hopefully we will pass with flying colors. They were fantastic. I got tired of somebody being in my house for 9 1/2 hours with no water and no heat, but that was not their fault. They did a great job of not tracking because they kept having to go to the truck and then come back in, and back and forth. They were very good about wearing booties and they had put down like a carpet thing that they can roll and carry out. I was very pleased with it altogether.

The call center staff seemed fine, but not exactly "friendly". When I called this morning to ask about an appointment I'd set last night they seemed like they couldn't find it for a while, but then they said they were dispatching a technician. The technician seemed punctual and friendly on the phone (I'm an out of town landlord) and gave me all the details. What I'd like them to change is their system that requires you to go online and do a bunch of typing to pay with a credit card instead of just taking a phone authorization. This is very cumbersome to people like me, who travel a lot, and have to go down to the hotel business center in our pajamas, log into the hotel business computer, and input my sensitive data. I hope the management will rethink this policy. I raised the issue with the phone reps and they sounded totally powerless to communicate my concern, or to care about it. I'd also like to see a little better (e.g. lower) pricing from this company before I use them again. With my own home and several rental houses, I'm concerned about price. They're not outrageous, but not cheap either. I'd like them to be a little more "reasonable". I think $300 to come out and add some freon is a little excessive. As a landlord, I can't afford that kind of largesse.

They came out and did a superb job. The gas company came out said we needed to get a plumber. Berkeys came out and figured out that we had 5 minor gas leaks. They went up in the attic where there was a gas leak in one of the pipes, another one going to the gas stove, one going to the gas fireplace. They were minor leaks, but over time they could of caused a problem. They were real good, they guys said he wanted to put a pressure test on it to check it again, which was really good. They had to replace a pipe from the gas meter to inside the house.

work took most of day , they first layed down a tarp on all the floor area . they then removed the old unit by cutting it into manageable parts , and then installed new unit.Out side a new unit was placed and they raised up the existing slab to above the soil line. At each point in the removal and installing theY would tell me what was going on. when it was finished they explained things to me , cleaned up , rolled up the tarp and again cleaned up and va cumed the floor[rug]. the next day a rep came by to inspect and to check that everything was OK with me. he again went thru the thermostate set up and workings. I would be happy having them do any work in/around my house in the future....GOOD people

Wonderful!! Have signed up for an annual contract to cover two services per year one for heating and one for air-conditioning! They also had some suggestions for possible improvement of my system. Relatively inexpensive, so I'll probably go ahead and do it on the next visit.

They're expensive. They had great communication and were easy to get a hold of however.

It was terrible. We had two toilets that needed to be re-sealed. Guy who came out gave us an estimate of $1500 to re-seal the two toilets (approx $300) , estimated $300 to "repair' one of the toilets, $300 to repair the supply line to one of the toilets, etc. When I mentioned that it seemed way to costly and ridiculous since I could purchase a very fancy new toilet for $300, the guy flippantly said, " M'am, that's just whats on our list". I paid him the $69 service fee and sent him away. Ended up calling Absolute Plumblng- they were honest- did not make up repairs (turns out the supply line was fine) and replaced our two toilets and installed them for a third of Berkey's estimate. I am still mad that I had to give Berkey's any money at all since they clearly had no plans to do anything but take as much money from us as they could.

All went well am satisfied with the results. however I felt based on past experience that the cost was 25%. higher that comparable serviec by other plumbing companies.

Know their fields of expertise, efficient, orderly and timely. so thankful they have now added electricians to their team, will be using very soon. Have been with service for more than 15yrs. They have replaced air conditioner, water heater, heater, toilets and other pluming with expertise.

It is great. For $99 they come out twice a year to check the heating, A/C, and plumbing. They are polite and professional.

It went very poorly towards the end of the year contract. The guy who was regularly coming out I guess quit and then they started sending out a new guy each time. Whenever I needed a bid, they were extremely expensive. I would not ever consider hiring them again. I didn't even finish out the year contract which included free tune-ups. I just stopped calling them.

Two men checked our systems and recommended we have an additional $8,108 in repairs to our units. When we had Berkey's service 2 years ago they recommended we replace the older gas heating unit then but it has lasted 2 years + and I had Stark Air come in for a second opinion and Stark said that the unit is fine and does not need to be replaced. It can last another 5-7 years with proper maintenance. They were looking for small problems to fix at a very expensive price. Perform blower pull and clean - needs 2 - $306 (Both $549) not needed by Stark Air Install drain package - needs 2 - $464 - (Both $700) The drains had passed inspection and would not leak as they told me. Install flue pipe - $675 - not needed - It passed inspection and a new one would look the same according to Stark. Install Media Filter - $85 - they did replace the Aprilaire filter that had collapsed. I had 2 new filters from Aprilaire that I had purchased and they recommended a Honeywell filter due to the bad construction of the Aprilaire filters. After they left I called Aprilaire and they shipped out 3 replacement filters free of charge to replace the defective ones. Aprilaire knew about the defect and had very good customer service. Install new media filter system - $750 - New return plenum, 4" 6 month filter, less dust - Not needed. 3 ton Lennox Gas Furnace - $3,650 - Not needed UV Stabilizer - $606 - Stark recommend 1 unit for the house if needed. Berkey's recommended all 3 for $1,699.Keeps bacterial growth down - prolongs life of units. I waived the repairs except for the new filter. I will not use Berkey's again due to the excessive amount of repair work that was recommended and not needed. Be sure to get a second opinion from a reliable source before they do any work.

This is a pretty common one in our area. They also have come and done plumbing for us. We are on their plan that they use for spring and fall heating and A/C service. I think their price is a little high.
