On October 7, 2011 I looked on Angie' List for a contractor to install 3 doors in my house. I found Whitaker Home Repair Remodeling and call the number listed between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM. Had to leave a message as there was no answer. Briefly explained that I wanted 3 doors installed with hardware and a 4th door have hardware put on. I gave my name and phone number. Never received a call back.
Description of Work: I called them to get an estimate for installing three doors.

Hi Member, It appears you called the day after my previous report Kim called. I have a small business and do most of the work myself. I was very busy that week trying to finish a job on time. I always make sure my current clients are going to be taken care of before taking on new projects. I should have at least called you to let you know I was busy at the time. I apologize if you were inconvenienced. Sincerely Brian

Member, It is very rare that I dont return a phone call. Im very sorry you had to be one of them. By the time I remembered your voice mail it had been 3 days, and I assumed you had probably found someone else. I wont make that mistake again. My records do not show a second call but I know thats no excuse. Please call me if you have not found anyone yet. Thanks Brian

The experience was great. He was there on time every day. It was good quality work. He kept me informed on everything because there is always some discovery work and we came up with a fair cost on that. Some of that he should have known about and he took that upon himself, which I appreciated. I was real happy with him. He did a good job and that's why I having him start on the next one.
Description of Work: I used Whitaker Home Repair Remodeling to remodel a bathroom and he is going to start on a second one next week.

It went pretty well. This was my first experience hiring a contractor to do work of this magnitude. I know I missed some things in not looking critically enough, not noticing in the flurry of new stuff going in, or being pushy/nit-picking enough. Overall, I am very happy with what I now have: a walk-in shower, new flooring and countertop. After they had finished their work, I refinished the linen closet and bathroom doors. It all looks great. However, it doesn't stand close inspection in spots. Here are my findings once the glow of newness had worn a bit (it's still NEW to me): Inside of the vanity was left unpainted--I thought refinishing the vanity included painting the inside, too. Leaking hot water valve under the vanity; a cup was left under the leak Inkpen marks for the wall-mounted mirror at the mirror edges are visible. There are old, no-longer-used screw anchors visible under the new paint layer. There are a couple of nail holes left unfilled under the new paint layer. Ceiling/wall corners and wall/wall corners are un-textured. Found a couple dozen paint drops on the newly-installed shower tiles and floor tiles. Removed them. Can see the paint line/sheetrock joint in the ceiling where a rectangle of sheetrock now fills the space once created by a recessed light fixture. No texture on the joints. Found some stripped screw heads and mismatched screws in the shower curtain rod mounts. When hanging a bath towel on wall towel rack, I could hear and feel the mounts stressing/flexing sheetrock. Replaced the towel rack with better sheetrock screw anchors. I was bothered by the loss of a drawer in the vanity due to the contractor ordering a countertop with the bowl centered rather than offset to the left as in the original countertop. The bowl now interfered with the drawer in the upper-right corner of the vanity. When he discovered it, he and I talked about it. I feel like he steered me into giving up the drawer and screwing the drawer face to the vanity. A week or two later, I decided that the drawer, with some modification, could work. I removed the drawer face from the vanity. I cut the drawer floor to skirt the edge of the bowl under the counter. I made a 1.5" 'wall' along that edge to keep drawer contents from sliding out. The drawer works fine and I'm glad I decided to make it fit. But, the big question and one which I should have addressed at the beginning when I realized the sink was now centered was to press for a top with the sink offset to the left. But, that would have extended the remodel and by that time, I was ready for it all to be done with. :-) Mostly minor stuff (except for the countertop/sink issue), but things I would have expected a contractor to be sensitive to and fix before finishing the job. Then again, maybe my expectations are unrealistic this being my first contracting experience. About the middle of the two-week remodel, someone came to the door and offered to knock out the dents in my truck for $75 or something. Not having a truck, I knew he must be talking about the contractor's truck. The contractor spent about 30 minutes talking with this solicitor out on the driveway. I was amazed. He was dealing with someone else on my time and dime. Would I use him again? I checked the Yes box, but only if there were few alternatives.

It went very well. They did a very good job. I don't remember the price of the service, but it was fair. They came out twice for 2 different jobs, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen.
Description of Work: Whitaker Home Repair Remodeling did some hardwood floor repair and some woodwork in the kitchen. They did kitchen cabinets.
Bryan is very professional and very good. He is extremely reliable and his prices are very reasonable. He always completes all work promised in a timely manner and stands behind his work. His attention to detail could sometimes be better.

They were much better coordinated. One man came in and looked at what I wanted done and said he would call back with an estimate by sending an email. He did when he said he would. He covered all the things I wanted done. He was proposing to do all the things that I ask, but he did not have any suggestions as to what we should be doing or how we got to be doing it. He wasn't very creative as far as having ideas to suggest. The contractor that I went with to get the work done came in with a couple of ideas and offered some free extras.

Brian was neat and thorough. He was very careful to clean up after his work. He made suggestions to us on the style/color of hardware for the cabinets and he was spot on. He showed us photos of what he proposed to do to reface our cabinets, so there were no surprises. My kitchen floor is really off level. Brian painstakingly cut several shims and attached them to the existing base cabinet tops to level them out for the countertop installation. He encountered several other problems because of the off level floor but he still made everything look good. He was punctual within 30 minutes of agreed upon time. If he was going to arrive late on any given day, he let us know the night before. He came every day from start of project to finish, except weekends. He did all the work - no subcontractors. Outside of Brian's fee, my other costs were for the light fixtures and cabinet hardware.
Description of Work: Refaced approx.13 linear feet of kitchen base and wall cabinets (11 doors) with antique finish. Removed 2 old drawers, built and installed 3 new drawers. Installed new countertop on same, removed/reinstalled sink. Built, finished (inside/outside) and installed 3' x 4' base cabinet (2 doors, 2 drawers) and new countertop. Attached new hardware to all cabinets. Installed one overhead recessed light fixture and accompanying switch. Replaced/installed one overhead light fixture and rewired switch. Replaced/installed one overhead light fixture. Installed new electrical outlet.

Brain conducted himself in a very professional manner- was quick to call back, punctual, thorough and provided an itemized estimate and invoice statement so that there were no surprises. He regularly requested review of his work while in progress to ensure he was meeting expectations and to offer suggestions that would make the project better in his professional judgement. He was very accommodating and it was very important to him to know you were pleased with the work. The job took much longer than expected but he did not falter in his commitment though he had other clients to service, and he left the place very clean upon completion. I will definitely hire him again! I look forward to the next project. I will have to get on a waiting list though, but it is worth the wait. He is just that good!

Brian worked with us very well. We really didn't know what we wanted it to look like. He provided ideas and pictures of previous work. We discussed pros and cons of various designs. How we were going to use the area and what aspects were important to us, like visible or invisible electronics. He came by several times to make sure he understood what we wanted. He e-mailed specs and drawings and was very responsive even though he had several other jobs going on at the same time. He was professional and friendly. The job probably took two days. He built everything off-site. In other words, there were no sawhorses and saws in our front yard. He even re-routed some electrical outlets to help out with the new shelving locations. This was done just a couple of days before Christmas.
Description of Work: We wanted the five small wall cut-outs in our living room replaced with an area that could handle a larger television. We also wanted shelving with doors to hide the electronics and wiring. Plus a small area for nic-nacs. Brian built, installed, wired, and painted the new in-wall entertainment center in a very timely fashion.

I would, and have, recommended this provider to friends. I will also hire them again for future projects.
Description of Work: Brian Whitaker remodeled a second bath, removing a tub/shower surround, and replacing with a tiled shower that is "elderly friendly". He also removed a florescent light box, installed new drywall and a new recessed light fixture in the space, and installed a new toilet. The tile work is beautiful - (the glass door people wanted to know who did the work because they had never seen a shower threshold so perfectly level). Brian's tile installer is Samuel, who worked steadily, did a beautiful job and cleaned up perfectly every day. Brian did the other work himself, and also did an excellent job. The price was for labor only. We chose the materials and fixtures, which Brian picked up for us. Including the cost of materials, we spent about $7000 on the space.

Went very well. Brian has high quality standards, especially for carpentry and painting, and we were thrilled with the quality of work. He worked steadily and communicated well with us throughout the job. His work was excellent and we will certainly hire him again for future jobs (in contrast to our previous two contractors).
Description of Work: Constructed closet within existing bedroom with associated electrical work (i.e., moved wall sockets and switches), added shelves to new and 2 existing closets, added crown molding in 3 bedrooms, painted 3 bedrooms and adjoining hall (and shelves, doors, crown molding, etc.), installed hardwood (bamboo) flooring. Also disassembled, moved and reassembled heavy exercise equipment and bedframe. Installed ceiling fans.

Brian had to come in and redo the poor work that another contractor had done. He offered suggestions. We discussed how I would like it. He came to work every day and frequently worked late. He stayed until he had a job done to a quitting place. If he couldn't make it by a certain time he called or emailed me. We discussed how to redesign the closet. He gave suggestions and sent a picture and a diagram of how the proposed finished job would look. He respected my house and cleaned up his work materials every night. He never left a mess around. I was impressed with his work ethic! He was friendly and did his job as a professional. We had to leave town for a while during the process. But when we got back we contacted Brian and he came back and finished the job. We will hire him again and recommend him to everyone.
