It took a long time but Dave persevered and found hardware that would work, made several mock ups to test how he would install it and made sure it fit and worked right. There were several long delays both on his end and my end in getting the work done, due to travel, illness and moving into a new shop issues. But Dave even came and temporarily attached the doors when I was going to have a house party and wanted the armoire to look decent. Dave was good about communicating the reasons for delays and difficulties which I appreciated. The best thing about Dave is that he wants to do the job right even if it takes longer to do it. He does not skimp and does quality work. So while I would have liked the job take less time than it did, I would rather have it done right rather than fast. The armoire now looks and operates perfectly, and I would use Dave again.
Description of Work: We had a TV Armoire damaged in a move. It has pocket doors and one door was broken off the hinges. The hardware that enabled the door to slide into its pocket was no longer being made, and it was going to be a very tricky installation, as there is a wicker facing on the door, wood on the back, and one of a kind hinges. The job involved finding hardware, making it fit the door and vice versa, remounting the doors and making them look good again.

For approximately five months, Mr. Meir was full of excuses. He claimed he lost my phone number, but when I called he still couldn't provide me with an estimate of the price to fix my doors. He claimed his computer crashed, but he couldn't give me an estimate on when the doors would be finished. He claimed someone was using the lap top, but couldn't tell me how he was going repair my doors. In Apr 11 he finally stated he was moving his location, but still couldn't tell me what work would be done, how much it would cost for the repairs or when it would be accomplished. I was tired of excuses and retrieved my doors. I will NEVER use or attempt to use this person again.
Description of Work: I called Mr Meir in Nov 10 to repair some doors for my shrunk. He advised me that he couldn't come out to my home, but I could bring the doors to his shop. In Dec 10, I gave the doors to Mr. Meir to repair the doors. THE WORK WAS NEVER COMPLETED. After 5 months of excuses, I picked up my doors.

The member is correct in the amount of time that his collection of parts to a shrunk were in my shop. The estimating paper work was never completed because at the time the member left the parts it was discovered there were some components missing. These components by his own admission were able to be found back at his house and were critical to me even giving him an accurate estimate. The member is also correct in that I did, for a time lose his contact info and by the time he checked up on the project four months had passed. Looking back I should not have allowed the member do leave his collection of shrunk parts with just a "promise" to bring back THE critical missing hardware. In closing because the estimate for the work was never able to be completed the member was never considered and active customer in my shop, his items were merely stored there!

They are going to deliver the cabinet back to the house today, so I?ll know about the quality of their work later today. They took the cabinet away and cleared it in the shop, so there was no any cleanup at the house. Their punctuality is really good. I think they are a little pricey, but it is probably okay. I would use them again in the future or contact them for a bid.

When David explained the process he would use to refinish the table, I was convinced he was an artisan. The table had faux planks, and the grooves had suffered from hard use and were peeling and exposing the wood below. David suggessted that in addition to the refinishing that I cover it with glass. After consideration, I decided to go with the glass. (The glass was $240, but well worth the investment.) The refinish was just wonderful and David restored the table to its original beauty. The glass doesn't hide its beauty and gives me lots of comfort that the table will not have to be refinished again.

Dave is a cheerful, congenial, and professional person. He was great at listening to our concerns and ideas, and at providing helpful counsel and direction on how to fix our misfit table leaf as well as things we can/should do to protect and care for the whole table. He has a lot of experience with carpentry, furniture repair and wood work. I'd trust him to do well with any carpentry or furniture repair project.
Description of Work: I bought a round perimeter extension table from a NC discounter on eBay. When it came, one leaf was missing. The replacement leaf they sent me didn't fit with the table or other leaves -- but by then the seller had disappeared. We needed a master craftsman to reshape the leaf so it would fit with the table and four other leaves. Part of the fee was for driving all the way across town twice to pick up and return the furniture. He also took the time to assemble the table and leaves together and to balance and re-align each peg. Dave did a great job and finished the project in time for holiday company.

David is very competent and professional. He seemed to get busy after he'd taken on my job, causing the work to extend a month or two longer than he'd estimated. Otherwise, I was very happy and would recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Based on my needs and a rough sketch I'd done, David built and installed a 10 foot by 4 foot cubby area for my utility room. Additionally, he built a built-in computer desk for my kids' play room. And two built-in cabinets for a powder room.

David is a detail-oriented, master craftsman when it comes to repairing and refinishing furniture. The pieces that he has restored for myself and my parents have been brought back to their original beauty, and, in some cases, resurrected from the dead. His services are not inexpensive (although, I have no basis for comparision) and at least one of the projects that he completed for me took more time than what was initially expected or promised. However, I won't use anyone else because I know that once a project is completed, I will be thoroughly satisfied with the result.
Description of Work: David has performed several projects for me. The first piece was a dressing table for my kids' nursery. I asked him to color match it to a new crib which he did perfectly. He charged me around $600 for that piece. Most recently, he rebuilt, essentially from the ground up, and refinished a very unique piece, an old antique chifferobe used to store my daughter's clothes, preserving its best features (beautiful doors with open fret work with matching drawers) while making it structurally sound for everyday, long-term use. He charged me $1200 for that piece. For $130, he was able to modify one of my kitchen cabinets onsite on short notice to facilitate the installation of new countertops in my kitchen. Additionally, he has refinished several pieces of antique furniture for my parents' home (several chairs, my grandparents' bedroom set, an unusual old Army locker from WWII, and a very old antique buffet).

I was very happy with the results and would not hesitate to call David for other projects. He did a wonderful job very quickly and I felt he was very trustworthy.
Description of Work: David repaired an antique washstand that belonged to my Grandmother. He clearly knew about antiques and was able to tell me several things about the piece that I didn't know. He repaired a cabinet door and drawer, added a piece to the long drawer so that it would be more sturdy, and refinished the piece as lightly as possible.

There were many challenges in this remodel. There was an existing cooking grotto that had to be added onto and flooring that had to be used but was no longer available. This company salvaged tile from an old counter top that was the same materials as on the existing floor. This took time and patience. It was a complete success, saving the character of the kitchen and a lot of money. It was not a second choice. The flooring was very important to the look of the kitchen. The success of this project depended on making the existing size become a more usable space and keeping the look of the cooking grotto and making it blend in with the new. This was a complete and even more beautiful and usable space than we imagined it might be. I had many difficult and unusual ideas. This company never said it was just too impossible. They gave everything great respect and came up with ways to make things work. Actually added a lot of creativity added to what I wanted. This project is not only one that gave me so much more usable counter space and cabinet storage, but it made the outcome just beautiful and a joy to work in and look at.
Description of Work: This company remodeled the kitchen and many door openings and made other changes in the home. They did some needed work to add in flooring to existing flooring where needed.

THE EXPERIENCE THIS COMPANY BROUGHT TO THE PROJECT WAS MOST CERTAINLY WHAT MADE THIS SO MUCH OF A SUCCESS. THEIR ABILITY TO WORK WITH COMERCIAL WINDOW AND AC PEOPLE WAS NOTHING BUT SUPERIOR. THEY MADE THE JOB WORK SMOTHLY AND THE FINISH A GOOD EXPERIENCE. TAKING NOT ONLY THE OLD SALVAGED MATERIALS, BUT THE NEW AND VERY COMMERCIAL WIINDOW WALLS AND REMODELING AS IF THEY ALL WERE DONE YEARS AGO WAS A REFRESHING EXPERIENCE. THEY USED THEIR EXPERIENCE AND GREAT CRAFTMANSHIP TO MAKING NEW MATERIALS NEEDED LOOK EXISTING AND AGED AS WERE THE SALVAGED PIECES USED. IT IS RARE TO FIND A COMPANY THAT LISTENS TO YOUR IDEAS AND IS NOT ONLY WILLING TO MAKE THEM WORK , BUT THEY WERE ABLE WHEN NEEDED TO ENHANCE THE IDEAS.
Description of Work: REMODELING AN EXISTING SUNROOM PROJECT INTO THE INTERIOR ON THE HOME. THIS PROJECT WAS A CHALLANGE MIXING THE OLD WITH THE NEW. ONE HUNDRED YEAR OLD DOORS FROM MEXICO WERE USED. THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE OF THIS COMPANY HAD WITH ANTIQUE MATERIALS WAS THE DIFFERANCE IN A GOOD PROJECT AND AN AWESOME COMPLETION. THIS PROJECT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS BEEN IN THE HOME FOREVER. IT DOES NOT IN ANY WAY LOOK ADDED. THIS PERSONALITY OF THIS AREA IS WONDERFUL AND HAS ONLY ADDED TO THE HOMES COMPLETE LOOK.

I WANTED ALDAR WOOD CABINETS THAT HAD AN AGED LOOK AND WERE VERY PLAIN BUT SKILLFULLY UNIQUE. THE CRAFTMANSHIP AND FINISH WORK WAS BEAUTIFUL AND THE CABINETS LOOK AS IF THEY WERE ALWAYS A PART OF THIS KITCHEN. DAVID HAS THE ABILITY MOST PEOPLE LACK IN BUILDING FOR INDIVIDUALS MAKING CABINETS WITH THE PERSONALITY AND NEEDS OF THE HOME OWNER. THE CABINETS ARE NOT ONLY EXACTIALLY WHAT I WANTED, BUT ARE A COMPLIAMENT TO MY HOME. I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH DAVID MEIER FOR AROUND 20 YEARS. HE HAS SKILLFULLY REPAIRED AND ENHANCED MANY ANTIQUES FOR ME. HIS WORK IS SUPERIOR AND CREATIVE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME HE HAS BUILD CABINETS FOR ME. I AM VERY PLEASED , AS I ALWAYS AM WITH HIS WORK.

The trim given as a sample can be returned. Just need to be notified when she will be by to pick it up. There is an outstanding bal. on the invoice that she asked for when she canceled the remaining work. The part of the order that I completed were four lg. cabinet doors that I measured and constructed and finished. She requested the center of each door be open for a punched metal panel that she would provide. Once the doors were made she brought the metal panels by my shop to make sure they fit, they did, perfectly. I proceeded to make the doors ready for install. She called me before I had made and appointment to install and said the metal panels did not take the paint well or something to that effect (she was doing the painting herself) and was going to CHANGE the center panel of the doors to hold drapes on rods. I tried to make the finished doors work for this new application but it was no use. I then spoke to her and said that a new set of doors would have to be made that were heavier and wider so as to accommodate the change. I also said there would be a cost associated with this change. The new doors worked with the drapes and hardware and the installation went well. All this took more time and even though the new doors were more costly to make than the original ones the invoice showed them to be cheaper. After that she canceled the remainder of the order and asked for a finial invoice. I believe that her expectations for the invoice bal. would show a credit, it however showed and outstanding bal. I have not spoken to her since then.

There was a bit of confusion on when we thought the project would be completed. My husband and I were left with different impressions as to when we would have the chairs back -- they were actually done later than either of us had thought, but earlier than Mr. Meiers had anticipated. Since there was not a great hurry for them, this was OK. If anyone has a deadline, this should be communicated for sure. After they called to say the chairs were ready, he and his son were here when they said they would be. Picking the chairs up for the work was also done in a timely fashion. My husband and I are extremely satisfied with the work of David Meiers and without hesitation would recommend him to others. He seems to like his job and take pride in his work.
Description of Work: Mr. Meiers took 6 kitchen chairs on wheels, added to their height, so that they are now high enough to eat at our new table comfortably, and stained the legs to match the new table as well. He did a beautiful job and we are very happy with his work. From the beginning he talked like he knew what he was doing and such was indeed the case. The job was expensive, but worth it, and we knew going in how much it would be.

I'd highly recommend David to my friends and family, or anyone. He is extremely knowledgable, detail-oriented, professional, and friendly. His rates are reasonable, and he does return phone calls, although maybe not the same day. His knowledge and skills are top-notch and you can see he really likes what he does. He is outstanding in his field and it shows. I would call him again without hesitation.
Description of Work: He repaired two chair legs that had split; took them back to his shop and glued them back together, then sanded and re-stained to match; came back to my home and re-attached them. He also fixed a good-sized nick on my dining room table on site, without having to take the whole table back to the shop. Although if down the road I want to have the whole top re-finished, he said he can do that too.
