+ -1 moreI had a pipe burst and they have just been wonderful. All the companies they have sent me to surf pro, tough river restoration and couple of others have been wonderful. I dealt with that company by phone. I have had their insurance for decades. This is the second time I am having them for service. They have always been wonderful with me. It’s works for people that served in the army. It’s good to know that those people are knowledgeable and it’s a good company. They have stations all over the country. I will continue to use them in the future.

Description of Work: I have been a member of USAA for over 40 years. For most of that time they have been an excellent company to do business with. This may still be true for certain kinds of insurance, for example, auto insurance. However, for homeowner's insurance they have moved to the bottom of the pile over the past five years or so. My homeowner's insurance premiums have increased by about 100% over this time with another 23% increase scheduled for next year. If the "credits and discounts" they claim are a part of my premium were not there, the increase over these five years would have been more like 225%. These increases in premiums have occurred in spite of the fact that I increased my decductible from $1000 to $5000 last year. My home is relatively new; I have never had a claim; and I have made no improvements of much value to the house since I purchased it. In addition, the experience of many USAA members in submitting claims has become a nightmare. One only has to look on USAA's own website (usaa.com) under homeowner's insurance to view the over 750 comments, a significant number of which from long time members are very unfavorable. If you have or are considering USAA homeowner's insurance, do yourself a big favor and look elsewhere.

+ -1 moreIt is rated number one in the company and it is. I was a military verteran and their reputation and it still is. I mean they are rated no matter where you google or what you do they are rated number one insurance company in the country. What other insurance companies call and try to sale me insurance and they ask me who I am with they get off the phone fast because they know I am not going to change. They probably along with At&t have the best customer service people I have encountered over the phone.

+ -1 moreI spent 27 years in the military service and another 7 years in the Foreign Service. I had a computer, so I could do any banking I wanted to do. I use the ATM because they don't have an ATM, so they reimburse the cost of using an ATM. Their customer service is excellent. It took me 2 hours and my auto loan was approved. They have an auto insurance, which is a big thing when one is overseas.
Description of Work: I use the services of USAA for my checking account, saving account, car loan, and debit card. It's ongoing and I use them pretty steady. I am with them since 1982.

I am a military veteran and I use USAA. They were established 80 years ago through retired military personnel for private insurance. Through them I get the best deal on my insurance! They can not be matched by any other insurance company.

+ -1 moreSo far the problem is still unresolved. Do not expect USAA to contact you about a claim you have made. Do not assume they received information you sent\ Do not trust the company to be sure you have the coverage you need. I stay with them because of the prices.
Description of Work: My auto was deemed a total loss in September 2011. It is now 2012 and i have not yet received the $8,000 from USAA for the car. First they said the title I sent was wrong. So they asked for a power of attorney. It had to be notarized. Then they said they never received that even though they provided the return envelope. so I filled out the power of attorney again , then again because they said they did not have it. Finally I called yesterday to see why they were not contacting me about the money and they said the power of attorney was filled out wrong. (the person who did the notarizing said all was perfect). However now USAA says it is wrong because it is not me, it is my daughter who wrecked the car who had to sign the POA. NEVER did they say my daughter had to sign the POA> They have never contacted me to take care of the problem. It is always me calling them to find out what the problem is. There were also e-mail sent to my account about two cars that were not me. I have not yet been able to resolve that problem. A few years ago, when my daughter got her own insurance they said that I had only signed up for liablility when I have NEVER in 30 years had cars with only liability coverage. I only found out about that when my daughter had a collision and was not covered. It cost me $5,000 to repair her car.

+ 0 moreI filed a claim with my USAA auto insurance (I've had them for ~10yrs now and you can't beat their insurance rates!) Since it was a REPAIR to the windshield there was no out of pocket expense. They partner with SafeLite and set up the arrangements and everything for me however the SafeLite representatives called me to confirm everything and even warned me that with the rain we were expecting, the time & date I requested may be a problem since I don't have a carport or garage. I received another call the evening before and we decided it was best to reschedule. The day we rescheduled to the service rep was able to come out early (but called ahead to make sure that worked for me). He made the repair and while waiting for the resin to set he even cleaned my entire windshield and vaccumed half my SUV! USAA sure knows who to pick when they send out someone for repairs! I've also used their $1/month "road-side assistance program" several times when my battery died or I locked my keys in the car. Always great servicemen!!

+ 1 moreI used their online service. I have mixed rating for them. The mortgage rate was good. The process was a little like the Keystone Kops. I got a refinance using the Veterans Interest Rate Reduction Loan. In that, veterans can use up to $3,000 in energy efficient insulation in the loan. The people were not very knowledgeable about it. I felt I could have gotten better use of the benefit and I didn't. I am very disappointed that they were not knowledgeable about the VA IRRL process. I was also disappointed that they sent me the final paperwork the day of the loan closing, which didn't give me any time to review it. They sent the notary over for me to sign the paperwork and they only gave him an hour. I received the paperwork two hours before it had to be signed. I was very disappointed. I have all my banking and insurance through them so I will continue to use them.

+ -1 moreUSAA are very nice and I understand they are very good at paying claims. BUT...I have had them for about 4 years and every year, without fail, they insist on raising my homeowners insurance rates. I've never made a claim, but every year they tell it it will cost more to rebuild my house and therefore the insurance premiums must go up! I asked them why they think it would cost more to rebuild my house when the economy is so bad that construction companies are begging for work? They don't really have an answer for that though. I'm seriously considering changing companies. They are very nice and all, just too d*** expensive!
