USAA Bank

USAA is an exceedingly professional and easy to use source for banking (we have a checking account, my two kids have prepaid credit cards), loans (we have taken out auto loans and personal loans), life insurance (my spouse and myself) and credit cards. It's because of the professionalism, courtesy and ease of use that we've turned to USAA for all of these major life choices. Few banks can compare--most fall short, in my experience.

I just signed up for a new policy - so far so good.

Turns out, they were a little more than my current company

I am very disappointed with this company. I have been with them for forty years and I have made minimal claims.The representative handling this case took hold of the word deterioration. I have a 4ft stretch in my chimney. It is falling. It happens specifically when we have a rare four day subfreezing stretch. I can't get them to budge and they say they won't pay! I am very frosted with them. They pretend to be on your side. This run-around frosted me so much and there is a number of websites and blogs where people say that when it comes time to make a claim they weasel out of it. How is it possible to be wear and tear on the top of a chimney. They "hide" behind the word - deteriorate. There is visible deterioration at the chimney. Are they alluding I am attempting to defraud them? I am sitting here fuming. I pay around eight hundred dollars per year. I have been with them for forty years and this is the kind of crappy service I get. I told them I want to appeal this decision. They said they have already appealed to their legal department. I should get an attorney. It is super annoying. It is clearly weather damage and I have talked to two chimney sweepers and they both said it is clearly weather damage. It is frustrating. I have had forty years of being a booster for USAA.

Working with USAA is so pleasant, it nearly makes the problem a non-event. Our car was vandalized in a parking garage in the WestEnd part of Dallas, TX. The side, back window was broken. When we called to report the problem, the USAA analyst acted with a professional, friendly manner. She took all of the information and then, because we were not in Houston, suggested that we have the window replaced before driving back home. While we were in the garage, she immediately placed us on hold and made an appointment with the Safelite location closest to us for that afternoon. Our interaction with Safelite was great (and described in a separate review) but it could not have been possible without the prompt, courteous actions of our USAA contact. Another very positive interaction with USAA!

First let me say that I continue to bank with USAA...they still hold personal accounts, investments and notes on loans. With some understanding that mortgage banking is somewhat apart from their other banking services; nonetheless, I found USAA to be inconsistent in their process, i.e. requesting duplication of documents, rendering conflicting (legal) opinions. At the beginning we explained our situation and provided documentation of a recent survey with deed information. We first were instructed to apply for a refinance loan. So, we went through the whole process of providing documentation of self-employment, etc. Subsequently USSA decided that a straight-out mortgage loan application would best meet our needs, so the whole process began all over again. Finally, "legal" decided that a refinance loan application was in fact the option to be exercised in this case with the stipulation of needed curative title work. Suffice it to say that this whole process took 4 months and served to lead us back to square one. We decided on an alternate route which did not include USAA. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have done well to read the reviews on USAA's community page from other customers regarding their mortgage experiences and at least paused to reconsider; however, my banking history (loans for 2008 HD motorcycle, 2011 motor home and 2012 Town and Country) with USSA did not prepare me for this. But as I said, mortgages are a different breed.

A drawback to USAA is they do not have anyone locally to deal with; it's primarily over the phone. But they are good over the phone and in quite a few cases, are available 24 hrs/day, or at least have extended hours. They are also available on the internet for many things such as payments and questions. Fortunately with my car insurance, I've had very few claims. Even though they are not a local company, they do have appraisers and representatives that depending on the situation, will come out or you can go to locally. There are pockets where USAA's rates may be higher. Springfield is one of those pockets where homeowner's insurance is a bit higher, at least up until five years or so ago. In the three areas I've lived in, Upstate NY, Central Texas & Springfield, no one has been able to touch their auto insurance rates. And again, their service and knowledge has been great!

We are just about to move another insurance to USAA Insurance. I have opened a bank account with them because I find that they have better service than my previous bank, and my wife has refinanced our primary residence so that our primary residence has a USAA Mortgage as well. So we are transferring as many of our financial and insurance needs to USAA as we possibly can, because the service is fabulous. I spent 14 years in the military, and they treat former soldiers much better than other people. For auto insurance they have separate deductibles for common occurrences. For instance, they have a separate deductible that applies to that windshield breakage, so it is a lower deductible than the full deductible for a traffic accident. So if you break a windshield they don't charge you the full deductible. I like that. they are very responsive. When our home needed a new roof, they didn't quibble about it, they replaced the entire roof and our deductible was exactly what I had calculated our deductible to be, and they paid the contractor very very promptly. So when our roof failed and we needed a new roof they took care of that and there was no problem with that. They did have some issues because the loan servicing provider wanted them to shuttle the check back and forth to them. So, because they had to shuttle the check back and forth there was a couple of days' delay through the mail before the contractor got his payment, but the contractor said that this was a common thing so he was cool. They have never even suggested that they would cancel on us. We have a rental property that they insure, and we've never had any problem with them insuring that, so yes, as far as we are concerned, the only thing we would prefer that they would not do is that they use a GMAC subsidiary to service the mortgage and we would prefer that they did not do that because GMAC is a bunch of dingbats. Their prices are so much cheaper than anyone else that they are never cited as a company to transfer FROM in advertising. When you call you always get a person. If they can't fix it themselves, they will call you back - usually within two hours - and get it fixed. They are about as responsive as any insurance or finance provider that I've ever used.

On the evening of March 15 I was contacted by USAA regarding charges on my credit card from another state when I had just used the card where I lived. They asked me about the charges and I told them they were not mine. They said they would removed the charge imediatly, cancel my current card, send me out a new card over night, and begin an investigation of what happened. All of this took less than 10 minutes. For something that could have been so scary they made it so simple. Thank you! It was discovered that people had broken into a local grocery store's computer system and stolen credit card numbers and reproduced peoples cards to be used all over the US. It was nice to know that someone else is watching out for me.

I switched over recently. They are more fairly price. They are experts. If you have a question, they have an immediate response. They were very pleasant and informative. They were a little pushy, though I guess that was his job. They were good. I signed up a while ago. I was going to do the home insurance too, but they were much higher. They were 600 dollars cheaper on the car insurance. They were 500 dollars more expensive with home insurance.

Be sure to ask lots of questions and be able to describe your house in detail. Different operators can make different assumptions about your house, which ultimately can affect the final price. For example, I did not need sump/backup coverage because the house is built on a concrete slab and does not have a basement. We deleted this coverage. Similarly, I did not need flood insurance because the house is not located in a flood zone and is located at a high elevation. USAA/ASI did a great job. I wish the rates were lower.

They are great and all around for just about everything. They are punctual, very professional. You have a lot of means to communicate with them. Things get done when they say they are going to be done. I highly recommend them. They are very good at giving you things right away especially if you are interested. They will let you know when they feel that you are being used improperly. They were correct when I did a comparative shopping. I thought that I would be charged three times the normal cost of repair for the part of the roof. I can't say good enough about them.

It is astounding how good they really are. The policy is good but the service they offer is very good. When I had a branch fall I called them and they have someone at 8 in the morning taking pictures. When the hurricane hit, they had someone there in 2 days. They handle everything with the contractors. You can either take a check or use one of the contractors that is approved by them. They are very detailed, professional and thorough.

We've been dealing with them for about three or four years. We are very, very pleased with the assistance we've got. It's very personalized and they have a range of people who are available, so that the person who is our contact can also assist us with other people on his team who have expertise in a particular area. I am very happy with the service.

They provide services to the members of military families. The staff is excellent. They don't work on commission; they work on salaries, so they are to help all the members in any area of finance, banking, financial planning, or insurance.

A pipe broke in my home flooding about 1/3 of my house in 2011. USAA did not even have the courtesy to respond to my pleas for help for three months and then only because I sent a letter to the CEO. That caused the spread of mold throughout my house which they refused to do anything about. The damage has not been repaired because they refuse to settle the claim. They were a very good insurance company initially. From customer complaints on the internet which I am re-posting in my blog, that is no longer the case. They had my electronics taken by a company that is now going to sell them to pay for storage that USAA refuses to pay for and never notified me about. They refuse to communicate by email. My adjuster lied to me in front of a witness. With the exception of one person there, they have been unresponsive at best and obstructive and deceiving the rest of the time. They also did not renew my insurance policy and did not notify me of this so now I cannot get any insurance for my home. They did this for suspicious reasons. The only good thing I can say about them is that they are not as bad as Allstate.

They have great attention to banking. I checked the IRA, went over the insurance policy for the household. They are very responsive. It took me an hour, that's all to do all of that. They want to help me so much.

This is a membership company, you have to be in some form of the Military. I also use them for insurance and banking. The do not charge for their service but you have to qualify to be a member.

Been with USAA for over 10 years, will never use another insurance provider. Always able to talk with a representative when I need one, without major hassles. And representatives are always helpful and informative. When It came time to get an auto loan, they worked with us to get the best rate, and made the processes relatively painless.

They are a good company and they do a good follow through. They do what they say they are going to do. They are always well informed. They are reasonable. Everything is done over the phone and they answer the phone right there. I don't have to wait. The staff is well trained. They are on top of everything and I never had any problem.

They are a good insurance company. It is 4 people that have been in the service. It is open now to people who are not officers. They are excellent. I have been involved in a lot of car accidents as I am a very bad driver. They put me in the high risk category, but my car did not go up that much. They are a good insurance company. I would recommend them for car and home insurance. I am the worlds worst driver and the insurance company have been very good to me. They know people who can specialize in Jaguar repairs and refer me to them. They are very helpful and polite. They do an excellent job.

They are really quite convenient. It will have a walk-in bank to bank teller per say, but primarily it is over the telephone, internet type or by mail. They have been excellent. They do exactly what they say they are going to do and their information has always been correct. They always answer everything I want at a time and no delays.

They are excellent. When I had a fire at my house in Colorado, they were right there, they take all the bills on time and kept it up everything and it was relatively painless. I would definitely use them again.
