Description of Work: Place sun room on back of house. When finished the sunroom walls were not flush with the rock on my house. After a few weeks someone did come over to mortar the 2-inch spaces but the mortar quickly began to crack. I did not notify company to resolve issue since finding someone to do the work seemed to be an issue for them. There were no other issues and any concerns were addressed and resolved prior to installation.

Saw the Tip Top display at the San Antonio Home and Garden Show - product seemed well built and installation was intended to take only a week or so. Representative (Don) came out and we decided to sign a contract in the first week of October 2012. Approximately 5 weeks later Don asked to come back to confirm the room size with a contract amendment. This was the first red flag. Not sure how the components could have been ordered from the factory without actual room dimensions. Never heard anything from Don without calling or texting to determine schedule for delivery and installation. After a few more weeks passed with no contact from Don we FINALLY heard that work would commence immediately after the New Year. Contractor for the deck and foundation (Santiago) came out and we discussed the logistics of initiating the project. They came on 2 JAN 2013 as promised, demolished the existing porch in one day, cleaned up and dug the holes for foundation. Got the inspector out to certify the foundation and poured the concrete. It was only at this point when we discovered the manufactured components were not even in San Antonio yet (had been promised by Don that work would not commence until the material was in town.) We had a VERY clear discussion with him during the planning that work would NOT start until it could be done all at the same time as our washer and dryer were on the demolished porch and we knew we could not do laundry for the 7-10 days promised in the contract that this job would take. Don made the excuse that it was a manufacturing delay due to the holiday schedule at the factory, however this is not really plausible considering we signed the contract in good faith in early October. Our suspicion is that he did not even order until Thanksgiving time frame when the factory was scheduled to halt production. Furthermore ? that first week of JAN when the installation contractor (Phil) told us it would be at LEAST 4 weeks for delivery, Don showed up (late) to the meeting and said it would arrive ?very soon?. At this point we were helpless and it took over 4 weeks to get the delivery. When we asked about how the company would compensate us for the incredible inconvenience they offered a Ruth?s Chris dinner coupon for 2 ($150.00) but denied any responsibility for the delay. This is really inappropriate as we were specifically told by Don that work would not start until the materials were here and no responsibility for the late order was taken by Don (imagine his boss will be enlightened by this detail). Once the room components arrived Phil and his crew made quick and expert progress on getting the room together ? only about 3 days and it was done. By chance I happened to be home as they were installing the walls and sliding door ? but the door was being positioned in the WRONG PLACE!!!! The sketch Don showed us was correct however the plans Phil used had the door in the wrong and inappropriate location. Fortunately Phil was terrific and managed to get the door placed correctly and even when the sliding door and screen came to the site defective, he and his team spent half a day to correct the problem. Really a great crew and highly recommended despite the problems with communication with Don. Of course Don did not have any contact with us during this period of time but again, Phil was great. Thank goodness, we thought ? we might be able to get out the back door without climbing out now that the room was installed and deck could be built?.. Alas ? Don had not scheduled the deck crew (Santiago) until 4 days later to start so we again were at the mercy of the previous schedule of that crew. So when we spoke to Santiago about the deck, we talked about the grade of wood (told it was what they always use ? apparently a very low grade given the number of knots present and mildew) and specifically discussed how the lattice should be installed so we would have access under the house. Santiago is a great guy and made everything sound great, but his team apparently did not have the level of attention to detail that we expected. The cedar had multiple knots ? and one is nicely displayed on the top of the bench. Guess that will rot out soon. They had NO sandpaper at all because EVERY cut was unfinished, even on the railings that are the most prominent places on the deck. Rough edges of the cedar planking were placed in the worst possible places. Rather than measuring the distance to the ground they placed 3 steps that leave a precipitous drop to the ground, especially on one side of the steps. We have quite a bit of finishing work to do to make the deck more weather proof and aesthetic. Finally ? it would have been nice if the team took away the large chunks of concrete left in the yard, bothered to fill in the large holes where the deck footings were placed (we have to back fill with purchased dirt to prevent mosquitoes from breeding), or cleaned up the large piles of black dirt all over the grass. The lattice was nailed roughly into place ? and against our specific request to use screws which is also how the manufactured recommended it be installed, we had no access under our house. So we just have to fix it all ourselves at this point. The final insult was the expectation by Don that we pay the balance of the job even before it was completed. Don did not even have the courtesy or decency to come in person to accept the payment. Overall, very poor customer service from Don; he took a very patronizing attitude when 90% of our problems could have been averted had he scheduled this job appropriately. Afraid I would caution folks to use Tip Top to install either a deck or a room ? kind of get whatever they feel like providing, without any regard to customer service. Phil was great and did the best he could. Santiago had a good crew but they definitely needed supervision for the detail one would expect for a finished product. Bottom line, room is done - very livable and nice. Need to do more work outside to detail the deck but a great space.
Description of Work: Had a, 18X12ft sunroom installed and an approximately 200 sq/ft deck built adjacent to the room. Existing porch was removed and hauled away.

Overall it was very good. As mentioned earlier, TIP TOP was the contractor and they subcontracted with another company to do the work. I wish we would have known about the subcontractor, we would have went with them directly. We ended up paying a couple of thousand extra by going through so many layers. The work was completed in a timely manner (we had a couple of weather delays) and the product is excellent, we have had many compliments about the work. We changed our design mid stream and they worked with us to complete the design. Once the subcontractor began the work, we had a difficult time getting a hold of TIP TOP when we had questions about things. We pretty much did all of our work through the subcontractor.

In addition, they also worked with us over a year later to help us resolve some issues with permits. I highly recommend this company and their products...we really enjoy our cover in this Texas heat!

We had originally wanted to redo our sunroom as far as any major outside repairs that we were considering doing. During the inspection of our house with the Company owner and going over the work to be done and the explanation of what we wanted and what was actually needed for better appearance and resale value of our house in case we do decide to sell in the future, we decided to go for the siding of the house and storage shed. The inspection was thoroughly done and after all the financial paperwork was approved, the crew arrived within the 2 weeks for inspection of the work to be done. On the first day the equipment (sliding, trim, etc) was brought into the back yard and by the afternoon half of the storage room was done and looking brand new. As work progress we were very impressed by the work being done and our input as to what we wanted done to the doors on the storage shop was acted on by the lead worker and taken care of. We also wanted any unnecessary television cables running along the fascia to be removed with our approval and the right cable to be visible at the splitter as it came along the front entrance to the wall. Well done! We interacted with the crew as far as work was progressing and they listen to our concern for nails, trim metal and any sharp object being left on the ground. The lead worker went the extra mile after we mention about replacing our security lights with new ones that he would installed if we bought them. So we did. They work diligently during the heat of the day and took very good care of cleaning their work area at the end of the day.We couldn't have pick a better Company to do this type of work! WE decided not to reinstall the window guards so not to ruin the appearance of the trim. You always hear about somebody else doing repairs to their house and how lousy their work was but Tip Top Construction Company lives up to its name. We are very please with the quality of work that was done and the professionalism of the workers. Job completed with the 10 days window and now we are proud of our new HOME! Thanks for a job well done!
Description of Work: Installed insulation sliding to our 1972 home which has a brick front and small painted wood frame on front entrance door and painted wood frame on left, right and back sides and to include our storage shed in the backyard. Tip Top Construction will custom fit, supply and install Mastic Structure siding soft fit, fascia and trim to cover all wooden areas on entire home and cabana (storage shed). Any rotten wood will be replaced. All bugler bars over trim pack areas of windows/doors will be removed and reinstalled. Color of siding and soft fits to be Desert Sand and color of fascia and trim to be Terra Cotta. The installation of the siding and trim is estimated to commence on or about 2-3 weeks and is projected to be substantially completed with 10 days thereafter. Of course installation was subject to weather conditions, financing delays, and homeowner's property associations and related factors.

All work went well and was completed with in promised time frames and completed structure has held up well so far. Our home is in area subject to significant ground shifting during wet and dry periods and any construction need to substantial to remain functional. Pay attention to length of time to get pre-manufactured components built out of state and delivered as it is significant amount of time. These times were given to us during initial quote.

Don Ferguson came out. When I met him he made it a point to assure us the he was bonded & dedicated to doing the job & doing it right. They gave us a realistic expectation as to when they could fit our job in & contacted us to schedule as soon as possible. They took a couple days to do the work & they did a very good job. They wrote up everything on the contract, came out & put up the barrier as promised. They cleaned up after themselves. We're already starting to feel a temperature difference in the garage - It's much cooler! So far, so good! As Sam's Club members we got 16% off as well, plus an additional discount since we hired them! They even provided finance - 12 months same as cash. The finance company told me they'd send a check, but that I should only turn it over to the company when the work is completed & only if I'm completely satisfied!

I used Tip Top Construction to put in Radient barrier in my home last year. They did a great job and in fact pointed out to me that some of the duct work in the attic was disconnected as well as some areas of concern around the air conditioner. I really appreciated that. I do have someone who works on my air conditioner, but none of these issues was ever brought up by him. The Tip Top Crew were extremely helpful. This year I had them come out and replace my wood siding with Alcoa siding. Paul Spencer and his crew were outstanding. They were at our house early and worked hard all day. It took them a couple of days because of the amount of siding to be replaced, but the results are amazing. My house looks great! I also had Tip Top enclose my back patio. Absolutely gorgeous work! I now have a patio that we can utilize and enjoy! I highly recommend Tip Top Construction!Michael and Cozette Bustamante

When they came to install the original enclosure, they did good work. It was done nicely and looked great. Wthin 2 months however, we tried to remove one of the screens to clean it and it bent. The door we used the most had a loose center divider, the sweep came apart and the knob came off. I called for repair and got an answering service. I tried to contact them for a month. They came out and couldn't fix things because they had to order parts. I tried for the next 2 months to get this fixed. I called, I texted the owner, I left messages, and I even threatened to contact the Better Business Bureau. Still no communication from anyone at the company. After 4 months of trying, I finally got frustrated to the point that I filed a BBB complaint. The company's response was that they were waiting for parts, they apparently had a problem with the manufacture with getting the correct parts. But they couldn't be bothered to tell me why there was such a delay. The BBB contacted me about closing the complaint and I refused until the repairs were completed. Within 3 weeks of my complaint to the BBB, the company had all the repairs done.
Description of Work: They were supposed to build the enclosure with removable screens and vinyl windows. This was a lower quote than the original, because I hired another contractor to pour the cement pad and a different contractor to put in the roof. I was not originally going to enclose the patio, but they came in with, what I thought was a good quote. And it was supposed to have a lifetime warranty on parts and labor, and they told me just to call and they would get the parts and schedule the repair.

All of the repairs requested have been completed. Several parts were on back order and there was simply nothing we could do about it until the manufacturer shipped us the parts. Upon receiving the parts we had the repairs completed within 2 days. 4 months is an exaggeration however. I can understand the customers frustration in having to wait, but we fixed them all completely as soon as we received the parts. Seems a rather harsh rating for a company who did an excellent installation and then made the repairs completely. I would point out that waiting for backordered parts is a highly unsual circumstance. Service requests are routinely handled immediately.

Our experience with them went okay. There was a disconnect initially on their end resulting in nobody showing up for the initial sales consultaion. After a few calls we were finally contacted by the owner. He came to our house to discuss our options and apologized. The first time they showed up to do the work, they didn?t do anything as they didn?t have enough guys to start the work. So, we had to reschedule it. Other than that it was okay. We were happy with the job they did. Their radiant barrier product, "Bella Foil", is a pretty pricey. We are waiting a few billing cycles to see whether their product gives us the energy savings they advertised and promised. Their written guarantee states: "A home can lose up to 90% of its heat through the attic in winter and in the summer months attic temperatures can soar to over 150 degrees. With proper installation, Bella Foil Attic Energy Barrier guarantees to the original purchaser a first year savings of at least 25% up to $500 on energy costs related to heating and cooling the home." I will admit at this point that the radiant barrier is doing its job from what I can tell. We've had temperatures here in Cibolo, TX, in the neighborhood of 97-106 degrees continuously over the last month or so. We check our attic temperature pretty much daily and the "Bella Foil" radiant barrier, along with three solar attic fans, seems to stay below 105 degrees. In fact, have not seen the temperature go above 102 degrees. The proof will be in the electricity bills (our home is 100% electric) which I plan to compare the next few months cycles with last year's bills. Bottom line, still too early to see how much of an impact the Bella Foil is having on our (electric) cooling consumption. We'll update this in a few months.

I spent around $10,000 on that service and it turned out okay. They built the patio like I said. Since they build these things out of state, it takes a long lead time to get the material in, but once they had it in it was fixed. They cleaned after themselves and I am pleased with what they did.

Description of Work: James came out as a result of an appointment made through Sam's Club. He was very professional and courteous. He evaluated my residence for installation of Bella Foil Radiant Barrier Insulation to be installed in the attic. He showed me a sample of the material that they install and it appeared to be a quality product. He showed me his Better Business rating on his laptop computer and indicated he was on Angie's List. They quoted me a price of $7500.00 to install their product and settled on $7100.00 and made me sign a disclosure that I would not disclose the amount I paid and would make my home available for showing potential customers my finished installed job and they would be able to use my name and home in any advertising. I felt pressured in signing a contract at the appointment time after telling him I wanted to look over the information and get back with him. I signed the contract the day of the original appointment. The next day I did some research on the internet and found out that there are a lot of Radiant Barrier products on the market at a considerable difference in price than he quoted me. Therefore, I canceled my contract with Tip Top Construction Inc. that day. I tried calling their office several times to discuss my findings and got their answering machine each time and left a message for them to call me back. When I went to their address on the contract at 3:00 p.m. their office was closed. I left my cancellation notice in their mail box and emailed a copy to the company. James called me back later that afternoon and said he saw I cancelled my contract and asked why. I told him of the research I did on the internet and my findings that other similar products I could obtain for under $500.00 for the materials and asked him his labor cost was in excess of $6000.00 to install. His response was they have certified installers. My feeling is it does not take a rocket scientist to install this product and their total charge was exorbitant. When I found their company on Angie's List and have been on the list since 2006, I found it hard to believe they did not have any reviews. I would do extensive research before doing business with this company.

This homeowner admittedly cancelled his contract with us after doing some "research" on the internet. This can be a tremendous challenge as the quality of products differs dramatically from terrible to excellent. In addition, much of the info available on the internet is biased, inaccurate, or plain dishonest. Our Radiant Barrier product is the finest available and is not available on the internet. It is therefore impossible to "research" it on the internet. It is of the highest quality, is exclusive to Tip Top Construction, Inc. and is approved and marketed through Sam's Clubs in South and Central Texas. We are sorry to lose Member's business however we feel an "F" rating is excessive and harsh considering we never did any work on his home at all. If he wanted a cheap product from the internet he certainly did not have to sign a contract with us. Feels like a bit of buyers remorse was at work which is fine but why such a harsh rating for a company that consistently rates "A" with homeowners who have actually had us work on their homes?

This winter we had new windows replaced by their knowledgeable crew and they wrapped our trim with aluminum so it does not need painting. The company has had the same crew for a long time; they are professional and have always done excellent work for us. In the winter, the owner called to see if we need anything done to keep his crew busy and he offered a discount rate. Last winter we had new siding, trim work done by the crew and they did a superior job. The windows we recently had installed come with a lifetime transferable warranty not to fog up, they are top quality vinyl clad tilt in windows and each window was custom made to fit our previous window casings. The crew took one winter day to install all twelve windows in our house and everything fit perfectly. The company provides excellent work as well as great customer service and we will continue to have them do whatever is needed each winter around our home.
Description of Work: Recently we had twelve new windows installed in our house. A service person came out to measure each window and they were all custom made in a couple of days. Tip Top Construction returned to install the windows and it took only one day to get everything finished up. We have used Tip top Construction the past few years to do work around our home and everything has been great.
