Tiger Services has been servicing our ac/heating for over 20 years and we will not consider having anyone else come out. They are friendly, professional and we trust them to give us the right recommendation that is best for us. Robert (our technician for the past 5 years) came out last week to do our spring inspection on our maintenance agreement. He is conscientious in doing the work properly and without damaging anything in the house or outside. He even wore shoe covers as to not track mud in, since it?s been raining. Tiger Services remains our service company in a time that is hard to find people you can trust to come to your home and do the job you hired them to do in a very professional way. From the call I make to set up my appointment, to the updates of when Robert will get to my house, to the great job he does to make my air conditioning work optimally.
Description of Work: A/C tune ups. Checked temperature split and air filters. Checked and cleaned drain lines. Repaired cracks in drain line. Checked amp draws at condenser. And a lot more that's on a tune up. We have a service agreement so spring and fall Tune Ups are included.

We have had a contract with Tiger for several years. For a while we were having issues with things breaking after routine service calls. We considered dropping them but because they did resolve each problem kept with them a little longer. Recently we were impressed that they responded to our call that came in 15 minutes before they close at 8 p.m. Our AC was suddenly out which is painful in the summer. They came out that evening and resolved it.
Description of Work: We have proactive service contract with Tiger Services for our AC and heating units. They have also replaced many units over the years.

We have used Tiger Services for a number of years and we have very much appreciated their professional services. They show up when they say they are going to and they get the work done expeditiously. I've never had to have them come back to do a job over because they get it done right the first time.

I would not recommend this Maintenance Service Agreement. I had the agreement with them in 2013 / early 2014. When one of my A/C units did go out they could not fix it - it was a solenoid valve for the HOT water feeding the heating side. They said I had to call a plumber. I called an A/C & Plumbing company that repaired it. in 2014, when my smaller A/C went out they said the only option was to replace it ($~7,000) ... 2 other companies gave me quotes to fix (< $1,000) as well as quotes to replace ($~6,000). Also, I am unsure what they did during the service visits - because they did not clean out my condensation drains. In summary, I would not recommend their Maintenance Service agreement because I did not see any benefit from it.

Response from Tiger Services Air Conditioning & Heating
We don't quite understand the client's concern on these calls and never called us to address his concerns. On the one call, his heating system is tied to a water heating source - our state license does not allow us to repair water source heaters so we recommended that he call his plumber. On the second call, the unit is about 14 years old and needed a lot of Freon - we don't recommend clients putting a lot of money in older equipment. As far as we are aware (there's no notes in the clients computer file), the client never contacted us with any questions or concerns. we are sorry that we could not meet his expectations. We have over 2000 maintenance agreement clients that have enjoyed our services since 1978. We invite any client that is not totally pleased with our services to call us so that we can discuss their expectations and work out an agreeable transaction.

Tiger Services is a professional, class organization. I had been with a local air conditioning company since 1980 when we purchased our home. I was an Air Force officer and we rented out our home for eight years, then returned to San Antonio in 1993 to retire. A new furnace was installed by our old air conditioning company in 1992, and a new air conditioning unit in 2000. The system began to fail. Two visits by my old company did not solve the problems. I was concerned that I would just be throwing money down the drain, and when it was all over, I still would have an old, unreliable unit. A year, ago my daughter and her husband needed a new heating and air conditioning unit. They called the company I had done business with since 1980. The sales representative did not answer their questions satisfactorily, and when they price shopped, found that company to be high. My son in law works at Rack Space. They have an employees only communications tool, and he used it to do some additional research. Numerous Rack Space employee rated Tiger Services very high. My daugher and son-in-law had their sales representative visit. This person was more knowledgeable than the others, and the price was the best. Given that, I decided to invite Tiger Services to visit and make a presentation. Mario did a walk through, and sat down to come up with some numbers. Before his presentation, I told him that my buying philosophy is that rarely is the most expensive or least expensive item the best value for the dollar. I told him that normally there is a 'sweet' spot where price and quality come together. I told him to save us both a lot of time and talk to me about a unit that met my criteria. The sales representative focussed on a 4 ton, 16 SEER unit. He hit the nail on the head. The price for everything was $7,978.00. That price included a $250.00 trade in for the old unit, and a $250.00 discount for paying by check. As a separate line item, I will receive a $640 CPS credit for moving from a 10 to a 16 SEER unit. Tiger Services filled out the CPS paperwork. You won't find much advertising from Tiger Services. They rely mostly on word of mouth. Patrick and Tim showed up to do the installation. They were superb. Patrick was so proud of his work that he showed me his work along the way. After the installation, there were a few minor glitches that Tiger Services resolved immediately. Before and after the sale, I dealt with Rosie, Roger, Kenny and Robbie. They are all friendly, professional and competent. I have one negative regarding one person I dealt with and have decided to include it in this review. After the system had been installed for about a week, on a Sunday afternoon, when the air conditioning came on, the lights flickered for about 1/8 a second, and the outside unit made a grinding noise when it came on. I called Tiger Services' tech support line. They offer tech support 7 days a week. The first letter of the first name of the individual who returned my call is "M". Mr. M started the conversation 'What's up?' He did not identify himself as being a tech rep from Tiger Services. That was not professional. I told him what had just happened and asked what should be done. Mr. M said that if he came out and it wa tree branches caught in the unit, or other debris, he would have to charge me $55 an hour. I told Mr. "M" that it was a brand new unit and I doubted the problem was tree limbs or debris. In short, he did not address my concerns. Mr. "M" was flip. He acted like he did not want to be bothered with my phone call. After talking to Mr. "M" for 15 minutes, I told how disappointed I was regarding the conversation. I told Mr. "M" to forget that I ever made this phone call and that I would call the main office in the morning to sort everything out. I called the main office in the morning. I was treated very professionally. I told them about the conversation I had the evening before with Mr. "M". I was told by his supervisor that he is an excellent technician, but does not have the best people skills when handling customers. I told the supervisor that all I needed to have been told was something like 'the whole thing may have been an anomaly. Just watch to see it if happens again. The problem may have been caused by a spike in the electrical line, or may rest with the unit.' Mr. "M's" supervisor told me all that. Had Mr. "M" told me that, my concerns would have been allayed. I am 71 years old and I have never heard a grinding noise when the air conditioning unit came on. I mention Mr. "M" in this review because I have supervised a lot of people in my day. I am a retired Air Force Colonel. As a past Commander and Publisher of the European Stars and Stripes, I had oversight for about 2,000 people, and managed 14 directorates. I had several Mr. "M's" along the way. They are competent people who needed some brushing up in an area or two. To the management at Tiger Services, you have excellent, professional people. Not only are they competent, they are friendly. A Mr. "M" in the mix can undo so much of the good feelings a customer has regarding the rest of your organization. My recommendation? Send Mr. "M" to a customer relations class. I am sure there are some good ones in San Antonio. He needs to learn phone courtesy when dealing with customers. I suspect should he show up to perform technical work that he would be excellent. He would diagnose and fix the problem. Where this all went off track in my case is that Mr. "M" never showed up at my house. My only contact with him was on the phone. It was a very unpleasant experience. In my opinion, a two day customer relations course, with some emphasis on phone courtesy, would square Mr. "M" away. What is sad about all this is had that anomaly not occurred, all my dealings with Tiger Services people would have been outstanding. Had I called on a different night, a different technician might have been on call and I would not have had this experience. To all reading this, let me end where I began. Tiger Services is a professional, class company. They charge good prices, and do excellent work. They install only good equipment. Tiger Services is responsive when you call them. They have won over numerous employees at Rack Space. That is how I found Riger Services, through my son-in-law who works at Rack Space. I left my heating and air conditioning company that I had been with since 1980. I am glad I did. Tiger Services is the best of the best. Sincerely, an old and retired Air Force Colonel

The technician walked into my house without knocking or ringing the door bell, startling my wife. My wife feels invaded now. Enough said, right? Then, after the technician stated we needed over $400 in Freon R-22, my wife indicated we would buy a new system from them. The technician went ahead and charged the $89 trip charge anyway instead of making it a courtesy call after we had stated we would purchase an $8000 or more air conditioner from them. I then talked to the salesperson who didn't pay attention to my wishes of wanting to purchasing a Trane. He wanted to attempt to sell some other brand, which I bet is more profitable to the company. Adding to the creepiness of the whole experience, he stated he needed to measure every room of the house from ceiling to floor and wall to wall. No privacy or respect whatsoever. The next day, May 14th, I inspected the outside unit and the caps had been left off of the refrigerant access values by the technician. He forget to reinstall the caps. I had a previous positive perception of this company. They blew it in one bad service call and one phone call trying to sell me something I do not want. Update: Roger with Tiger Services has since contacted me and has agreed to refund the $88 for the service call.

It was an all day affair. The installers arrived promptly as scheduled. They were polite, attentive, clean, and did a very good job. Additional work was done to improve air flow through an added on duct to a kitchen sun room area that was built. They hauled out all of the old system through a very narrow entry stair ladder into the attic. This unit was bigger than the original. It was a tough job well done.

A wonderful experience! I purchased an annual service contract and on the same day of the purchase they conducted the first service. The technician was courteous, professional, and very thorough. All the while he worked he explained what he was doing and why. As a result I learned quite a lot about maintaining my AC and Heating system. As an afterthought I asked the technician about thermostats. After another clear and concise explanation on thermostats I asked him to replace my old thermostat. He did so and gave a quick tutorial on how to set the thermostat. Again a wonderful educational experience!

I love them. I have a twice a year maintenance contract with them. I didn't cost anything for that visit because the maintenance contract is a little over $200 for twice a year and two units. He did recommend quite a lot of repairs coming up like changing duct work, changing gas lines and he also gave me an estimate on that but it was expensive so naturally I've done nothing. He noticed that my blowers were dirty and they need to be cleaned but he didn't do that because that cost extra. When I bought the house many years ago their shine was on the attic door and so I called them and I then I used them ever since. They've replaced both air conditioners and both furnaces fourteen years ago. They did an excellent job and I haven't had trouble with my units since and then they come out twice a year and do the maintenance. Usually everything has been fine but now that the units are getting older they have had to replace a ceiling fan here and there. The staff usually calls and reminds me and we set up an appointment. They are very punctual and they come when they say they are going to. They've just been very reliable.

Prior to the call I researched my furance issue, narrowing the root cause down to a few items. The lack of the proper testing equipment is the only reason I made the call. Almost everything about the experiance was satisfactory. The dispatcher was very professional, the technician right on time and was knowledgeable. The problem I had with the experiance was the cost quoted for the replacement part. Tiger wanted to charge me $358 for a part that I could buy on-line (as a regular consumer) for $74, and the installation would have taken less than two minutes. I have no issues with a reasonable markup due to the cost of carrying the inventory and other overhead expenses, however a 300%+ markup is wrong in so many ways. Even the technician was embarrassed at the cost when he presented the quote. I would use them again in situations that I have the luxury of time to order the part on-line. However, if the weather is extreme and I have problem with my HVAC unit I would look else where.

The service was fine, but feel that $550 was royally steep for just a mere capacitor replacement. A $30 part. Tiger charges $88 for service call, and all the rest is gravy. This is service that should've run about $150, but somehow $550 is unacceptable.

-Due to the very short comment and the incorrect statement, Tiger Services attempted to call this client MANY times. The client never gave the company an opportunity to explain or resolve their concerns. Most Angies list clients utilize the open dialog the system provides to help resolve their concerns. With this situation – there was no dialog. There was just this bomb of misinformation that is indented to tarnish the company’s reputation. The facts that exist: -the person who met the technician at the house authorized all work for the quoted prices. -there were TWO components in the unit that were replaced (not just a mere capacitor) -the person writing this email was not present during the time of the repairs. Tiger Services felt it was important to disclose all the facts to this posting so their Angies List clients could draw their own conclusion more fairly than what this client attempted to INACCURATELY post. “If there is ever a concern with our services we always recommend that our clients call our offices for a speedy resolution to their concerns. Thank you Angie for offering us this great service.”-

At first, they came out to do an assessment of the air conditioner and basically, it's not working. So when I went out, they said that the compressor is just locked up and it's not working. So I talked to the service man who did the assessment. He described my options, so we talked through that. His manager who does more of the installation side and not the inspection called me that same afternoon and we talked through getting a new air conditioner. We used Tiger Services for my own home, the home where I lived in. They've been good. We will probably be using them too. Their prices were in the middle. They were very timely and they gave me an estimate of how long it takes. They did what they have predicted.

The tech checked the furnace, suggested replacing the filter element (and did), checked the start and run capacitors on the condensing unit, and charged the system with 5 lbs. of refrigerant. He then hosed off the condensing unit coils and fan. I had an Angie's List coupon for $35 off a service call, but when I presented it to the tech when he gave me the bill, he said that the bill already had been discounted, and he did not take off the coupon amount. He did take the coupon with him. A week later, I called the office to check on the correctness of that bill, and they said that the coupon should have been accepted. John said that they would be contacting me to refund the $35. A few days later, I called back, and was told that the check would be mailed on Friday, May 24.

I have used Tiger Services for years and thought they were a solid company. I had a AC system replaced in 2007. They gave us a estimate for the system on 6/11/2007 and the estimate clearly showed a ten year parts and labor warranty. All the boxes for the parts and warranty are checked and hand written 10 years.. We felt secure that we were covered for 10 years. They installed the system on 6/12/2007 and when we paid them we got a separate receipt - but this receipt shows 10 year P/L Datacor. We did not notice it and never asked any questions, we had a ten year warranty shown on our initial estimate - Datacor was NOT on the estimate. So when it comes time to replace my coil for free under my warranty I am told that I have no warranty. Datacor when bankrupt and that appears to be my fault. They will give me a discount on the coil. It should cost $2500 and they will do it for $1500. I noted that $1500 was not FREE under warranty. They said sorry - but that was their best offer. They said I might get $200-$400-even $600 from this bankrupt Datacor company. I said fine - Take $600 off my bill and I will give you the check ( of course I might get $0 also). I was very unhappy - I asked if $1500 was THEIR cost - I thought at best we could BOTH pay 1/2 - $750 each.. No answer - they were giving me a discount. I asked for a written estimate and a letter explaining why I was not covered under warranty - And as I expected after more than a week I did not get one. I have heard from their technicians similar customer complaints about warranty issues. I think their Technicians do a decent job servicing systems - but the company owner only worries about his profits and not a Senior Citizen on a fixed income. I would never buy another system from them again - they will find an excuse NOT to stand behind their work. I found another company to fix my problem, I could not see giving them any more of my hard earned money. If you want a company that does not have pride in it's work - Tiger Services is for you.
Description of Work: Did a Air conditioning Service Check - the unit was low on Freon and they did a leak check. Found a leaking coil in attic. They want $1500 to replace it - NO WARRANTY COVERAGE.

Response from Tiger Services Air Conditioning & Heating
We share the member’s frustration with the third party insurance company who is not honoring their original terms and who is responsible for the extended warranty claim. It is the insurance company who is the source of the issues at hand. Unfortunately, the member is rating our services poorly because of the actions of the insurance company. Our company is a service provider for the insurance company. Because of a closed business and some bankruptcies, the insurance company stopped honoring the original terms of the agreement. Most of the service providers for those companies stopped offering ANY assistance on filing claims or repairing the client’s equipment. Our company decided to help the policy holders with repairing their equipment, filing their claims AND maximizing their reimbursement amounts – no matter how cumbersome the process. Most policy holders understood the situation and worked with us. The State of Texas requires air conditioning contractors who offer extended service warranties to purchase a policy that is secured by a third party. As per the guidelines, we purchased a policy for this member from a third party vendor in 2007. The extended warranty policy was purchased from the largest insurer in the nation. A letter explaining all these issues with the extended warranty was provided to the member. Because of the bankruptcy of the insurer, the underwriters for the policies stop honoring claims in the manner the program was set up. This member could never get past the fact that the policy was not with us but with a bankrupt or closed company that was dictating all the rules for both him and for us - the service provider. Even though we attempted to work with the member to find a solution and gave him an exact verbal quote for the repairs (which was heavily discounted), it appears - he is not happy with the fact the insurance company is not paying all the expenses for the repair. It is truly an unfortunate situation for ALL PARTIES INVOLVED. We welcome the member to contact us if he would like to discuss the matter further. We appreciate that Angies List provides this open forum to disclose both sides of the situation. Thank you for the service you provide both for businesses and consumers.

Justin came to my home. Performed A/C tune up. He was personable and professional. He was very thourough and I was pleased with him. The diagnosis, however, was not something I expected, not having had any problems. In order to avoid problems during A/C usage, he suggested that I have the outside capacitator replaced at a cost of $145 and the, I guess, dirty evaporator coils pulled and cleaned, which would have cost $690. Being on a fixed income and not having anticipated a large expense, I opted for a second opinion. The evaporator coils were cleaned IN PLACE at a fraction of the cost. (Hopefully I won/t regret that). Had that been suggestted to me by Justin I would most certainly had him do the job. Based on Justins' performance I would highly recommend Tiger Services.
Description of Work: Had my A/C checked out. Took advantage of their $35.00 Anniversary special.
