The Lawn Sprinkler Guy

I called and left a voice mail. Had a call back to schedule an appointment within 45 minutes. He had a family emergency come up which forced a reschedule, which was fine by me (family always comes first). Diagnosed the source of the leak and had repaired in a matter of minutes and the repairs have held up well. Will use him again for any future irrigation needs.

It was some kind of Angieslist deal for maintenance and tune up. I have to call them again because one of the sprinkler head is broken again. They were fine.

They were offering a special for a check up for $45. I've had it checked every year so I'm familiar with the process and I was disappointed in the service. We have a fairly large yard with 6 different zones and 3-5 heads per zone which is quite a few heads. He was in and out in about 30 minutes, he really didn't check everything. He changed one head that I told him wasn't working properly. I really wasn't pleased about the service I got. I don't like to write bad things about people but I see they are doing the same thing this year. He just showed up and didn't make an appointment.

I bought the Big Deal back in September and I've called him several times to do the work and he never followed through. He always said he would call me back and he never did.

He got there on time, told me what he was going to do and explained the benefits of installing a rain sensor. He did everything he had to do in less than 4 hours. After he finished he turned on each zone so I could see the full effect that each zone was giving my lawn. Beautiful! I really felt that the lawn was now getting watered properly. Within a couple of days I could see my grass turning from dead brown to green. The lawn isn't completely green yet but it looks sooooooooooooooo much better.

I bought an online coupon over a year ago for an irrigation system and I was less than satisfied with them. Overall, it did not go too well. He came in and did a quick assessment estimate. He charged me $250 more to put in a valve that was larger but what I wanted him to do was to check all my sprinkler heads and everything but he could not do that because he had a bad back. He left and never came back. I would not use him again.

John showed up on time & checked the entire Sprinkler system within 30 mins. His only issue is that he is very busy, so it may take a few calls or emails to get an appt from him. Overall, I will use him agaiin!

Arrived and was very friendly, checked out my system aiming some of the heads and as luck would have it the one zone I have been having issues with worked today, got to love it. John, The Lawn Sprinkler Guy, is excellent in what he does. However, that makes him very busy. It took me a week to get him out. He was on time, professional, and completely fixed my problem, and the price was reasonable for what he did. I have used John before with similar excellent results.

He said everything looked fine, there would be some minor adjustments that could be done. I would have to set an appointment to have the work completed. Since we were in the drought, I cut back and I haven't called to readjust the system. I was comfortable with him working at my home and he was professional.

I called The Sprikler Guy and he met me at my home on a Saturday and gave me an estimated cost. Later in the week he came out and performed all the repairs. All that we had discussed was rectified. No issues. Will use him again to keep my system working properly.

Spoke with him by phone first and then immediately sent an e-mail to detail requested work, location and my contact number since he was out on another job. He was there before my next irrigation day during watering restrictions so we did not miss our day. Very thorough and professional with an excellent price compared to our previous sprinkler repairs;l excelled my expectations. Would definitely use his services again!

His name is John Flores. The problem was, one station’s sprinklers didn’t work and we had extremely low pressure, water pressure to our sprinkler system. Our sprinkler system is 22 years old and that’s why he came out. He replaced the pressure pump, did some PVC piping and repaired station 4. He was here early. His price was excellent and even better was, he did a phenomenal job on our sprinkler system. It’s a 22 years old system and I have never seen it work this well ever, even when it was brand new. I will not be losing his heart, believe me. I am very happy. I have been hand watering the backyard; it has been a total pain. It’s just awesome. He is very busy. When you call, you would have to wait about 2 weeks to put you in his queue. You will notice all the comments on Angie’s List; he is a real busy guy. He is well worth the wait.

John has now been taking care of our sprinkler system needs for about a year. I found him on Angie's List and was attracted by his experience with doing sprinkler systems at Sea World. He came promptly after I called and I enjoyed his enthusiasm for his work. The work was performed at the time specified and at the price quoted. I really like the new controller which is larger with more flexibility than the previous one. Another time I called about a sprinkler head and when I hadn't heard back by the next morning I called again. He responded that he knew our watering day was the next day and had come right out to replace it as soon as I called. I hadn't noticed! We also had leaks appear with spongy patches in the lawn which he diagnosed and replace the valves with stronger ones with more flex in the joints since they were in high traffic areas. John is head and heels above our previous sprinkler system "guy" and, thanks to him, I may even keep my lawn from dying this summer!

He surveyed the sprinkler system for what was wrong and said he would give me an estimate of what it would cost to be put in good shape. He did not tune up the system as was stated in the Angies List Big Deal which I purchased. I have not seen or heard from him since.

John arrived on time and after introductions, started immediately inspecting the system. He opened up the control panel and checked all the connections including the rain gauge. I showed him the two heads I thought were broken. He then turned each zone on and inspected each rotor/pop-up. He made adjustments where needed, cleaned out heads clogged from hard water deposits, replaced one sprinkler head, repaired one broken pipe. He showed me a place where the original installation company had not spaced the pop-ups on the side of my driveway properly which is leading to a patch of dry grass. John was professional, courteous and thorough. I will call him again if I have any problems. It did take a few phone calls in the beginning to contact him and set up an appointment. He is a one man company and is doing everything by himself. I did have to wait a week or so for an appointment; however, I don't view this as a negative. His services are in demand and to me that is a great review. He works by the job and not by the hour. He did give me a quote over the phone and my final bill was as quoted.

We spent a LOT of money to have our system installed last year by another contractor who not only did a poor job but left our job Red Tagged by the city because he refused to install a rain sensor. John came out and evaluated the job and told us what we needed to do to have the system work correctly. There was no sense going back to the original contractor because he had no intention of fixing the system. John installed a new remote rain sensor several months ago for us which allowed me to clear the red tag from the city of San Antonio. Due to more landscaping that we needed to do we had to wait to have John come back and fix the system. We made the appointment today (3 June 2011) for 8:00 to 8:30. John showed up at 7:55 and immediately got to work. He found that the flow restrictor was causing the heads to only come up partially and the spray form the heads to only be half as far as they should be. He took care of that problem, adjusted the heads for the new strong flow, set up and checked our drip irrigation system and set up the control box for Stage 2 water restrictions. John initially thought the job would take at least half a day. It only took a couple of hours. He charged me SIGNIFICANTLY less then he had initially estimated the job would cost. What a breath of fresh air! John is a hard worker, very honest, and a real nice guy to deal with. I would hire him again without hesitation.

I had used John about 2 years ago for a problem with our sprinklers so I called him again . John came out on the agreed day and he remembered me. He found 3 heads that leaked and a valve that did not work. He did the check up and came back a few days later to make the additional repairs. He would not accept payment for the check up until the entire job was completed. It took about 2 hours to do the job. The coupon for the check up was $49 and the additional repairs made the final cost $150 which I thought was fair. He made the repairs and then found a broken connection on a zone that had not been used. John fixed all the problems and improved the coverage of the sprinklers. He made a temporary connection by passing the bad valve so I can add a drip system at a later time and still use some heads in that zone. I really appreciated that John was able to move me to be his first job that day since I had planned to leave town. John is knowledgeable, friendly and does a very good job. I will not hesitate to use him again and refer others to him.

I called John the Lawn Sprikler Guy because of one of Angie's List's special offers -- $45 for a sprinler tune up. Good price. I paid online, got a code number, and was told I could call him anytime to use the coupon/code. So far so good. A month or so later, I was ready to start using the sprinklers so I called. I had other service people coming that Thursday so I asked if he could come then, try to get things done in one day. He said that he was pretty busy that day but would try to squeeze me in at the end of the day. So I asked if it would be better to schedule a firm appointment the next week, and he said no, he'd make sure he got by that Thursday. He didn't show up and didn't call. That's ok, I understood. I called again and made an appointment; he said he'd come sometime in the afternoon and give us a call before he came. He didn't come, and he didn't call. One last try. I made another appointment for the following Tuesday. Three or four days before that, appointment, on Thursday night, he called to tell me he would be there the next day, Friday. I explained that I thought our appointment was for the following Tuesday, but I guessed the next day would be ok, and he actually argued with me, said that he had us in his book for Friday and how could we be in his book for Friday if our appointment was for the following Tuesday? I don't know, but I know I'd never scheduled him for that Friday. We agreed he'd come Tuesday, as I had understood it to be. Anyway, he did come the next Tuesday and found the sprinkler system wouldn't work at all. He spent some time troubleshooting, and found a loose wire or something, and fixed it. It tested ok, so he set the system to run twice a week automatically. He charged an extra $50, beyong the $45 I'd already paid, but of course that makes sense because he did some additional work. No problem, I was satisfied with that. Problem is, the sprinkler then came on and ran on the automatic cycle one time and then hasn't run again since. After it didn't run for two cycles I called him again and left a messsage saying that there was still a problem and could he give me a call to set up a time for him to come back and fix it again. He never called back. Maybe he thought I wanted him to come again for free, but I didn't expect that. I would have paid him again -- I just wanted it fixed. Eventually I called another sprinkler service and made an appointment for two weeks out. They said this is their busy season. Sure, I can see that, and maybe it's another reason John never called back. Maybe he doesn't need our business. I think a conscientious businessman would have made time to come even during his busy season -- considering that he'd already done the work once, unsuccessfully, I would have thought he'd be wanting to make it right. Apparently he doesn't care about that. But meanwhile, I've had to water my lawn by hand for three weeks already and the system won't be serviced for another week and a half, and we're in a draught and the lawn is about half dead. I'm not very happy with John the Lawn Sprinkler Guy. Scheduling and organizational issues like that seem a bit beyond him. He doesn't strike me as eager to make good with customers who have paid for his unsuccessful services. I don't know whether he's any good or not, technically; he didn't get the job done right the first time, but it may have been a trickier problem than it seemed, so maybe another technician wouldn't have done any better. I don't mean to be unfair. I understand if a good technician thinks something is fixed but it isn't yet. That happens. But a good technician, and a good businessman, make such things right as soon as possible.

Do not use his coupon on Angies Lists. I purchased his service more than three weeks ago and have call him a total of 9 times. The one time I did get him on the phone he promised to be at my house on Monday the 18th of April. I called that day to see what time to expect him and as usual no return call. I waited at home all day for him and he was a no show and no call. Today I called him three more times 9+3=12 times and still no return call. I want the work down or my money back this week from The Lawn Sprinkler Guy or Angies Lists (since I paid through their site.)

John Flores works by himself and had recently sprained his ankle so re-rescheduled a previous appointment to 3/31/11. He took a quick look at the yard, noticed some problems before even turning on the zones, noticed adjustments that could be made to improve the coverage of zones that I had thought were working OK, and suggested changes that would improve coverage. He quoted me a price that I thought seemed reasonable.

John arrived within 5 minutes of the scheduled time. His sprained ankle still hurts, but he was walking better with his brace than he was a couple of weeks ago. He worked quickly, showed me problems he detected that arose, and wound up charging me much less than he'd estimated because it took so much less time. His ideas for changing out some heads to different kinds of heads were great, and I couldn't be more pleased. I'd checked him out on Angie's List and BBB and he was well rated by those he did work for but received some really bad ratings by other Angie's List customers recently. I can understand their feelings, especially the one whose lqwn died, but I also recognize that this man works by himself and apparently his sprained ankle really affected his job performance. Whenever a person is in business by himself, his customers much expect that there can be problems, but John Flores is certainly one I will call on each year from now on to keep my very old system working well.
