Started our Saturday morning with a toilet leaking and lots of water on the bathroom floor. When we turned of the water to the first toilet, we started smelling a sewer odor. After the first flush of the second toilet, it also started leaking around the base of the toilet. We checked Angies List and called Texas Plumbing Diagnostics. Dixie (the owner) told us she could have someone at our house at 11:00 am. Jed called at approximately 10:30 to confirm our location and plumbing problems. He arrived on time and ready to work. He evaluated the problems with both toilets and when we told him we sometimes have a leak at our clothes washer, he said he would take a look at that, too. He indicated our toilet problems were probably caused by a clog in our main drain line; when he opened the cleanout, there was standing water. Jed found and cleared a clog just past the cleanout, but ran the snake through the line to the SAWS connection to ensure there were no clogs further down the line. When he pulled it back, there were some very small roots attached. At the end of all of the repairs, we put Rootx in the main line to reduce further root growth and, at least temporarily, avoid having to dig up the line. Jed then tackled the toilets. In one, he used parts we had already purchased to replace the flushing mechanism in tank. The bottom flapper valve was not seating well, so he provided a new one. He also replaced the line from the toilet to the wall, determined that the shutoff valve was not sealing properly and replaced that at the same time. Replacing the shutoff valve required turning off water to the house. While he was doing that, Jed pointed out that our meter was not working properly and we should contact SAWS. The second toilet had to be pulled up and the wax seal between the toilet and floor drain replaced. When he finished the repairs, Jed cleaned around the base of both toilets and recaulked. He did a very neat caulking job in both bathrooms and left both bathrooms clean and dry. Jed was pleasant, professional and thorough, explained everything to us as he went and checked all of his work to confirm there were no further leaks. He provided estimates and options before he did the work and there was no sales pressure. There was no surcharge for the weekend service call. We got a well-qualified and conscientious plumber and very good value for our money. We will definitely call Texas Plumbing Diagnostics and especially Jed if we need plumbing work in the future.
Description of Work: One toilet that needed to have the hardware in the tank and the line to the wall replaced. Also had to replace the valve at the wall. Second toilet needed to have the wax seal replaced under the toilet. Checked main line and found it to be clogged. Ran an auger/snake into the cleanout and down the line to clear the clog. Clog was just beyond the cleanout. Minor roots were found further into the line. RootX was put into the line to inhibit further root growth.

This company did a good job on what I had to do which was to fix my toilet from leaking. I don't remember the name of the service person, but he was very polite and efficient. He even checked my bathtub drain for me to see if it as draining correctly and it was. I'd use this company again.

* * * * * * I appreciate you taking time to post this report on Angie's List. I understand that everyone is busy these days, and I do not take it lightly when you are kind enough to write a few words regarding our performance at Texas Plumbing Diagnostics. A water leak may seem like just a minor annoyance, but: Municipalities estimate water losses of 30 to 50% due to minor leaks. A slow, dripping leak can waste as much as 170 gallons of water each day, or 5,000 gallons per month. Your water and sewer bills can be lowered by repairing leaking fixtures. Outdoor hose bibbs (faucets) are a common source of water loss. Your refrigerator's icemaker line, if it is plastic, should be replaced every three years, to avoid serious water damage. This is the No. 2 cause of flooding in a home! You can be assured that you have done the best thing by having this toilet repaired. Keep a watchful eye on your fixtures and pipes, and if you notice any standing water or drips, call us immediately. We'll be happy to serve you at any time. Thanks again for calling Texas Plumbing Diagnostics to serve your plumbing needs. Dixie 210-698-9790 February 27, 2013

First of all, I was so impressed and satisfied that they might be the only plumbers I use from here on out. Jed arrived as promised at 2:00pm. He looked at my water softner and figured out why it wasn't working properly. After fixing the problem, he was thorough with making sure it worked properly. He noticed the pipes had a leak from improper fitting hoses. He ran to Home Depot himself, got what was needed and returned to fix EVERYTHIING. Jed was very professional, quick, patient and informative (I ask a lot of questions). He explained everything in detail of what was wrong and before he did any work, he asked my permission. I thought the service was great...he even gave me the Angie's List discount for being a member. I would definetely use Texas Plumbing Diagnostics again.
Description of Work: Diagnosed why my water softner wasn't working properly. Fixed the plumbing of the hoses, fixed the leak, and sealed it so it won't happen anymore.

* * * * * * Thank you for posting your report on our Company, Texas Plumbing Diagnostics, on Angie's List. We get lots of calls concerning water softeners, so when one of our technicians comes to your home to check out a softener, you can be sure that he has had training and plenty of experience. Considering the damage hard water can do to pipes and fixtures, you paid a small price to insure you are protected. One place you may notice the ill effects of San Antonio water's high mineral content is in your water heater. Minerals become much more active when water is heated. This can cause mineral buildup in your water heater even when you have a softener. Manufactures (as well as all of us at Texas Plumbing Diagnostics) recommend that you have your water heater flushed every year to remove this mineral buildup. When we flushed my personal water heater, which was only 1-1/2 years old, I gathered enough minerals to fill a plastic baggie one inch deep. And I do have a softener. When we visit homes with no softener to replace the water heater, it is usually very heavy, as the minerals built up in the heater solidify into something like rock. They can also coat the heating element in an electric water heater, and cause it to arc. As you can see, your softener is a very important plumbing fixture in San Antonio, and it protects one of your largest and dearest investments -- your home. Thank you also for your comments concerning our technician, Jed. You stated he was, "very professional, quick, patient and informative." These are exactly the characteristics Texas Plumbing Diagnostics requires in our technicians. You are very kind not only to notice, but also to tell others about Jed. I appreciate very much that you were impressed and satisfied, but most of all, I appreciate that you stated we might be the only plumbers you use from here on out. Customers like you make our job meaningful and a joy to perform. And I will be looking forward to hearing from you any time that you require plumbing services. Dixie January 12, 2013

After my home inspection, I needed to get a couple specialists out around the Thanksgiving holiday - one was a plumber. My home inspection on the house I was trying to buy was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, so I was looking for an expert Wednesday BEFORE Thanksgiving to come out early the following week - before my option period expired. TDP was responsive, ALWAYS returned calls, and VERY helpful telling me options/prices even before the appointment. (Dixie is GREAT!!!) At my appointment, I wanted them to auger and possibly use the camera to look at a possible sewer line issue before my option period ended on the house I was buying. Angel showed up on time, and was VERY knowledgeable and professional. We couldn't do everything (I didn't get the owner's permission to do everything), but he took EXTRA time to go through the house/yard and talk to me about possible issues, and brought up various scenarios based on the neighborhood/age/floorplan and yard because he knew I had to decide on this house in the next day or so. He spent a lot of time answering my questions - and no pressure, no judgement, just information - VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! I am closing on my home next week ...I close in the morning, and the FIRST appointment I have is with Texas Diagnostic Plumbing to get my new (old) house ready to move in.
Description of Work: Buying a home, needed a professional for possible plumbing/sewer line issues during option period (over holiday)

* * * * * * Thank you very much for posting this review on Angie's List. Because of the many possibilities of problems with plumbing in the San Antonio area, we get lots of calls from people who are looking to purchase a property; we also hear from sellers, who want to make sure their property is in good condition before they place it on the market. Due to the demand, we developed a Peace of Mind Package, which provides a check-up on approximately 80 plumbing items, pressure tests, and camera work on the main line. Those who are interested can contact our Office at 210-698-9790, or e-mail me at Dixie@tpdtx.com. As you stated in your review, it is important to obtain homeowner permission to perform testing. Thank you for mentioning the intangibles in Angel's character that make him the outstanding plumbing technician and customer service person that he is. I appreciate your notice that he is: very knowledgeable and professional, took extra time talking about possible issues, and answered your questions with no pressure or judgement. As I have mentioned many times, we are grateful to have Angel working with us. And we're happy to hear that you had a good customer service experience with him. We are all excited to be a part of your new home experience. Thank you so much for allowing us to serve you! Congratulations and best wishes, Dixie Dec. 13, 2012

The plumbing team didn't have much information about the water heater. In addition the salt pellet tank needed to be cleaned out to bring it into working condition. For $99 which was supposed to be a 1/2 price Angie's List deal I would expect they would have gotten the unit into working condition without my wife having to ask them. I was disappointed that the plumber thought just taking a glance at the softener was worth this much.

* * * * * Perhaps, since this work was performed on May 4th, you do not have a copy of the Invoice handy. Our technician, who is a Master Plumber, states on the Invoice: "Biotech Softener System, 3 tank, pre-set dials with no adjustment. Power was Off to the unit. Had to run 100 ft cord from back door to test softener. Not sure if softener caused outlet to trip or if it (exterior outlet with no cover) got water in it. Softener was working and cycling manually and automatically. Will have to get outlet tested by electrician and let system run for a few days to make sure it does not cut out from overheating. Salt tank was dirty and had very little salt; cleared and cleaned tank. No warranty on softener system due to no power before showing up (Could not check) to see if motor was getting too hot." The above information, printed on your Invoice, shows that my technician gave you information on the type of softener you currently have and information on how to proceed with insuring that the system was in proper operating condition. You stated that he "didn't have much information about the water heater (sic);" I'm certain that you were discussing the softener. He gave clear information to you that shows he did, in fact, understand the brand and type of softener at your home. You state that the salt tank needed to be cleaned out to bring it into working condition, and that you would expect that we would have "gotten the unit into working condition without my wife having to ask them." We always go over any work that we propose to do with a client, and get their approval before performing the work. We have no right to perform work at your home without permission. So, my technician explained the different issues to your wife, and her options to deal with the issues. Your wife signed the Invoice, indicating her permission to perform the work, and my technician cleaned the salt tank, which he states was dirty and had very little salt. When I discussed this with him, he stated that the unit had contaminants such as grass, as the cover was not in place on the unit. As he stated to your wife, the softener should be run through several cycles to determine whether it was kicking off, and an electrician should be called to check the non-working outlet for the softener. We recommended that these steps be taken to determine whether you could continue use of this unit, which is a somewhat older unit, before taking the more expensive step of replacing the unit. The technician also walked through the home with your wife, searching for the breaker box for the unit. Neither he nor your wife were able to locate the breaker box. He was at your home for a total of one hour and 45 minutes. You purchased an Angie's List coupon for $99, which entitled you to $200 in plumbing services. When you called the Office, I spoke with you. I have written in my work order notes: Softener exam and instruction, $159. I discussed the charges with you, and sent you an e-mail confirming the charges, on May 2nd, before your appointment. The additional work of cleaning your salt tank was $50, which was authorized and signed for by your wife. You received $209 worth of plumbing services for $108. I am sorry you do not feel that you got a good deal. Dixie December 12, 2012

We received an estimate on replacing a tub/shower fixture that was leaking. The estimate for the work seemed somewhat high, but we needed the guest bathroom repaired before my mother visited the following weekend. The plumber was able to perform the work that day, which was convienent so we went ahead and had the work done after he went and purchased parts. The tile work around the fixture was the part that seemed over priced. The work was good and the repair/repalcement is still intact and operating well.

* * * * * * Thank you for your remarks concerning our Company's performance. You state that, "The plumber was able to perform the work that day, which was convenient..." The Invoice shows that he arrived at 9:00 am, and was at your home until 1 pm. I'm happy to know that our technician was punctual and professional. He was at your home for four hours, which indicates the amount of work and difficulty he encountered. Price is a subjective thing. Perhaps our price for installing a shower valve and cutting your tile seemed too high to you. However, if a skilled professional worked for four hours on your job, you can be sure that expertise was required. As I have stated before, installing a shower valve requires a deft hand with a torch, due to the tight confines of the workspace, and the presence of wood framing. I also want to mention that you had purchased a Big Deal from Angie's, which gave you a $101 discount off our regular pricing. I appreciate your comments that the work was good, and that the repair, after 8 months, is still operating well. This shows the quality of work that was performed at your home. I understand that we are not a good fit with everyone, and that is to be expected. But I feel that the quality of work, professionalism, responsivness and punctuality of my technician on this job assignment are above reproach. Best wishes, Dixie Dec. 12, 2012

I love this company and it's employees. We purchased this home new in 2008 and we were surprised to find that the hob bib needed replacing AND that it required going thru the wall to repair. But our technician checked with our neighbors and found that our house was the only with this type of hose bib and it had apparently frozen at some point which required the additional repair. We expected the job to cost more than it did and it was completed quickly. The toilet repair was done professionally also. I'd flushed down a plastic top and assumed it would flush safely thru the pipes but instead it became lodged and stopped up the toilet in our master bedroom. The technician came the following morning and tried to pull the cap back thru the toilet area so as not to have to use the snake. But unfortunately it wouldn't dislodged so he had to use the snake. Again I assumed our bill would be much higher than it was. On both occasions, Texas Disagnostics responded quickly - which is very important when you have plumbing problems - they handled both issues professionally and explained everything as they went. They were punctual and very helpful. Texas Diagnostics is my plumber of choice! I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone with a plumbing problem! Thanks, Angie's List - for using only the best!

* * * * * * When I see a comment, such as, "I love this company and its employees," I am truly humbled. Thank you so much! Your comments concerning our technician's professionalism are much appreciated. Sometimes, the general public is not aware of the years of training that go into holding a Journeyman Plumber's License. Added to their training is the fact that, every work day, they are encountering and dealing with plumbing problems. As with all professions, they develop a quickness and a "sixth sense" when performing diagnostics and repair work. I'm often amazed at their talents! I'm so glad we were able to respond quickly to your plumbing needs. Although we are not always able to respond immediately to a general plumbing problem, we try to respond to plumbing emergencies ASAP! We understand the necessity of basic plumbing items. Previously Jed with TPD replaced the toilets (earlier review) so when I saw water on the floor in the front bathroom I called TPD to check the original installation. Jed came out and found that the water was coming from the drum trap in that bathroom. Jed explained the problem, talked about my options, and gave me an estimate for the repair. A few days later, I set up the appointment for that repair. Jed came on time, completed the repairs, and cleaned up the area. While he was there I asked him to look at the leak under the kitchen sink. Jed again explained my options, patiently answered my questions in a professional manner, and wrote up that estimate. When I was ready to do the repair, I called for an appointment and Jed came the next day to replace the pipes. Jed found where the previous owners of the house had used black tape instead of a clamp to connect the sink pipe to the pipe in the wall. I just laughed about it because I have discovered several other "handyman improvisational fixes" in the house. Jed struggled with the space limits of the opening and was able to get the new pipe installed correctly. He also replaced the supply line cut-offs. The repair was completed and Jed cleaned up the area. Again the cost was the same as the estimate plus the cost of the cut-offs that were not in the estimate as that problem was discovered during the repair. Again, while he was there Jed gave me an estimate on my next project - replacing the line cut-offs for the washer. Jed ordered the parts and came back a few days later and completed that job. Again, job completed in a professional manner, cost as estimated, and cleaned up work area. My house was built in 1955 and I think the previous owner did not hire any professionals to do repairs which explain some of my unique discoveries when getting repairs done. TPD has been my "go to" plumber because in my experiences, the company has high standards and reasonable prices. When I started this extended plumbing project, beginning with the toilets (reviewed previously), I did get estimates from other plumbing companies. They were all about the same. I have been very happy with my decision to go with TPD. I prefer having Jed do my repairs because he does not get frustrated when he comes across an unexpected situation in my old house and he leaves the work area cleaner than it was before he worked there including carting off all the old parts. I need to add that he always showed me the old parts and pointed out the weak points before he hauled them off. The estimates have been the final cost with the exception of the additional cut-offs for under the sink. No upsale technique used. As I previously stated, I prefer Jed to work at my old house. However, each person I have talked with at TPD has been professional and friendly. The company seems to have good ethics and hires professional, knowledgeable, respectful people who take pride in their work.
Description of Work: I have used TPD for several plumbing projects in the last few months: break out and replace drum trap lid in bathroom, auger shower drain, cut out and remove lead drain and pipe under sink in kitchen, replace it with PVC drain and P-trap, replace supply line cut-offs, replace boiler drain cut-off for washer.

Wow! I sure appreciate your many accolades for our Company, and our technician, Jed, in this report! It is difficult for me to convey the depth of appreciation that I hold for our returning customers. The fact that you had used our Company before, and chose to return to our Company for service, is much appreciated. It certainly speaks volumes about Jed. As you are aware, Jed appears to be very young, but he has over a decade of experience in plumbing. Also, he has attended training in gas lines, grease interceptors, tankless water heaters and solar water heaters this year, along with his required training to maintain his license. We are gratified to have Jed working with our Company, and we are thankful for your reports, which give us a very good picture of his service to our valued customers. You reference his valuable plumbing skills, his cleanliness, and his willingness to "go the extra mile" for our customers. These are all targets that we definitely want to hit in serving our customers. I appreciate your comments that pricing among the different companies you called were about the same. At Texas Plumbing Diagnostics, we do not aim to be the lowest priced company in town. We must maintain decent pricing in order to pay our technicians what they are worth, provide our customers the service they are seeking, and hopefully, make a profit in doing so. I also appreciate your comments concerning Jed's patience in dealing with plumbing repairs. After years of working in plumbing, we may feel that we've "seen it all," but each customer is different and has differing needs. We are glad to hear that Jed takes your needs into consideration when serving you. Your kindness in saying that each person you have talked with at TPD has been professional and friendly is so much appreciated. When we have customers like you to speak to and work with, our day is brightened. And we also want to thank you for remarking that our Company has "good ethics, and hires professional, knowledgeable, respectful people who take pride in their work." When our customers know that we are honest and will treat them with respect, we have accomplished one of our main goals in operating Texas Plumbing Diagnostics. Thank you, Dixie

* * * * * * Thanks for posting your review on Angie's List. We regret that you had trouble with a plumbing part. We use the best parts available, and specify, "Made in America," whenever possible. For instance, we noticed that we were having call-backs on our outdoor hose bibbs (faucets). After doing some investigative work, we found that the supply company had switched to an overseas manufacturer, and the faucets had a tendency to develop hairline cracks. We immediately specified that we wanted only hose bibbs made in America. We have had no further problems with these parts. Please be assured that we specify the best parts and fixtures available. We don't like call-backs any more than our customers do! Thanks again for taking the time to submit your comments to Angie's List. Sincerely, Dixie

We are completely satisfied with the work performed. In fact, we have scheduled a second appointment for additional plumbing work we have been planning - just waiting to find a professional company to address our needs. We are confident that TPD is just the right company.
Description of Work: Noticed water streaming from behind a hose bib and imagined a significant problem in the foundation. I called Texas Plumbing Diagnostics and was surprised to be talking to the owner, Dixie Bishop. Ms. Bishop informed me that one of her employees, Jed, had 1.5 hours before his next appointment and that he would stop by. As promised, Jed called from his truck as he left his prior appointment to let me know he was on his way. Upon arrival, he quickly assessed the problem and determined that a four inch pipe section behind the bib was faulty. He quickly replaced the pipe and still had time to check out and repair a flow problem with one of our toilets. This was truely a very satisfactory experience. Both Ms. Bishop and Jed were very professional; courteous, responsive and knowledgeable. Jed was very respectful of our home. Other then making needed repairs, he left no hint that work had been done here.

* * * * * * When you have a water leak at your home, it can be stressful, to say the least. I am thankful that Jed was able to get to your home quickly and alleviate your concerns. Your kindness in posting this report is much appreciated. And your descriptive words, "very professional, courteous, responsive and knowledgeable," will certainly let other Angie's List members know what you thought of our service. Thank you so much! I'm sure glad that you have placed your confidence in our Company, Texas Plumbing Diagnostics, and that you feel we are just the right Company to perform work for you. Called TPD and they were at our home within the hour. Trenched around the leak and discovered that a previous repair had been performed but with the wrong type of pipe was used. A different type pipe was spliced in for the repair and clamped in. Jed obtained the proper clamps designed to splice into this type of pile and used PVC for the repair. He waited till the joints were dry, checked for leaks, and back-filled the trench. Was very happy with the service. Would use TPD again.
Description of Work: Woke up to water bubbling up in the back yard. Discovered an old repair that had come loose. This was an old ploy pipe that was running from the well-house to several hose-bibs on the property.

* * * * * * I am always impressed by the thoughtfulness of our Angie's List customers, and I want you to know that we do not take your report on our Company for granted. Each and every report builds a foundation of trust for Texas Plumbing Diagnostics which is highly valued -- both by us and by future customers. Thank you so much! Many times, the first sign of a yard leak will be either water bubbling or a constant wet spot (unusual here in drought-prone San Antonio). When you notice either of these symptoms, it's time to call us! A slow, dripping leak can waste as much as 170 gallons of water each day, or 5,000 gallons per month, and will add to your water bill. We are pleased to know that you were "very happy with the service," and, "Would use TPD again." We will be happy to serve you any time! Gratefully, Dixie

Everything went very smoothly. Initially I was surprised that Angel didn't have the appropriate cartridges with him, but he explained that he couldn't know what sort of cartridge I needed until he saw what I had. It only took him 20-30 minutes to pick up the proper ones and I was glad to know that I was getting the right ones. I didn't try to come up with $200 worth of work, but chose to use the $200 coupon to pay for a job that would normally have cost $133, saving myself $34. As I said above, I'm happy with the result. I found Dixie and Angel to be professional and knowledgeable and wouldn't hesitate to use TPD again.
Description of Work: When I saw the Angie's List Deal for this company ($99 for $200 worth of work), I contacted TPD and spoke to Dixie. She was very helpful and very knowledgeable. I was interested in 2 projects and she gave me estimates for both, as well as helpful suggestions. By the time I purchased the deal, I knew what to expect and what my cost would be. I made an appointment for TPD to replace leaking cartridges on the Moen fixtures on a bathroom sink. On the day of the appointment, Angel called before the scheduled time to let me know he was on his way and arrived about 30 minutes later. He removed the original cartridges and left to purchase new ones, taking the old ones to be sure he was able to get the same type of cartridge. After he installed the new cartridges and replaced the handles, the right one seemed too tight and made a squeaking noise when I turned it on. Angel applied some plumber's grease, making it turn more easily and quietly. The whole process (including the time to purchase new cartridges) took about 1 hour. I'm pleased with the results and with my experience with Dixie, Angel, and TPD.

* * * * * I am so appreciative of your comments concerning our Company, Texas Plumbing Diagnostics! Even after all these years, it's still very satisfying to receive all "A"s on a "Report Card!" Thanks also for your comments concerning my service to you over the phone and Angel's service as a plumbing technician. Thank you for asking questions about the things that concern you. This is the only way that we know your concerns and can properly address them. We are so thankful to have customers like you, who value our service and are willing to tell others about us. We are able to remain a customer and service-centered company because our customers see the value of our service and are willing to pay for it. Did you know that many companies have quietly changed the way they do business? Many plumbing companies pay their technicians based solely on commission. The plumbing technician must provide his own truck (which is usually wrapped with the company logo, so the customer is unaware) and his own gas to go to jobs for the company. This gives technicians who work for those companies a great incentive to sell a job, and to upsell to every customer. Our technicians are paid a salary whether our customers buy anything or not. We provide a Company truck and pay for the gas. You can be sure that your Texas Plumbing Diagnostics plumbing technician has no incentive to sell our customers anything they do not want or need. Because they will be paid for the hours they work, they are happy to tell you exactly what your plumbing issues are -- and, you deal with them at your convenience, on your timetable, instead of being pushed into action by a salesman. My theory is this: The customer is blessed because we provide skilled technicians who do excellent work and are honest; our technicians are blessed because they are paid whether our customers buy anything or not, and we provide them with training and equipment to do their jobs; and we are blessed, when, hopefully, we are able to profit as we provide these services to customers and jobs for employees. When everyone is blessed, that's a God thing!

Stopped by the office of Texas Plumbing Diagnostic plumbing in the morning, was greeted by the owner, Dixie, and was offered a same day appointment but scheduled for next morning instead. Angel arrived on time, was knowledgeable, courteous, and explained options for the repair to include improvements for installing cutoff valves. Angel provided a precise estimate before starting any repairs or procuring materials. Repairs ended up taking much longer than initially expected but did not impact on the cost bid. Would highly recommend this company.

All of the contacts that I had with the employees of this company were pleasant. Job was completed satisfactorily and the follow up was outstanding. Jed is an excellent plumber and a hard worker. He did not stop for lunch and only stopped once for a few minutes to drink some cold water since it was very hot in the house. I would hire this plumber again.
Description of Work: Replaced 2 toilets and a lavatory faucet. The house was built in 1955 and parts of the house were updated in the early 80's so repairs can be a challenge. One of the toilets was grouted to the tile floor and a challenge to get out. The fittings and cutoff for the faucet were old and fragile. Jed worked hard and got the repairs and replacements done in several hours. He kept me informed, gave me options, and demonstrated good knowledge of his profession. Jed did an excellent job cleaning up the area and hauling off all of the old fixtures after he finished the installations. A week later I noticed a little water standing near one of the new toilets. I called and Tx Plumbing Diagnostics did not hesitate to send Jed back the next morning. Jed found the water was coming from a drum trap clean-out cap between the toilet and tub. Jed gave me an estimate for cleaning out the trap. I decided to wait on that repair. It had stopped leaking after all of his testing. We will watch it for a while to see if it comes back before investing in more repairs.

***** Thank you so much for taking the time to write this very descriptive report. I appreciate your pointing out the outstanding characteristics of our technician, Jed: He kept you informed, gave you options, and demonstrated good knowledge of his profession. It's good to know that the investment that Jed and we have made into his plumbing knowledge are paying dividends for our customers. Jed has over a decade of plumbing experience. And, he not only keeps his continuing education current for his licensing, he also receives additional training in specialized areas, such as gas piping, tankless water heaters, solar water heaters, and commercial training. You were very kind to mention that your contacts with our Company were pleasant. As the Owner, I enjoy speaking with our customers. And, we always want to convey our appreciation for your call, no matter who answers! "The follow-up was outstanding." Thank you so much for this comment. The best thing we can do for our new customers is to let them know that we take care of our existing customers. Your words say it all for us! Thanks again for calling Texas Plumbing Diagnostics, and please let us know any time we may be of service. Dixie

The next day, Saturday, I contacted another plumber who was able to come over as soon as he finished the job he was on. He showed up in a couple of hours and he got right on the job. He was able to evacuate the excess water from the pipe and pull out the original plumber's mess and replace it with new copper pieces. The plumber charged me $100. I was so pleased with his work and knowledge that I paid him $150 to commend him for his excellent service. My neighbor and I had the water heater reinstalled and running within 30 minutes after the plumber left. I have paid for Angies subscription for two years and the first time I actually used this service, I got screwed. But, that is only a side note. I should never have had to pay for a job that was botched and never completed. I understand the original plumber's frustration, but he would not have been frustrated if he had the knowledge and experience to do the job in the first place. And, he should never have requested payment when he found he was incapable of completing the job. All I know is that I would stay away from this plumber. All he did was take my money and make excuses, and left me with a mess. Yes, he did work his butt off trying to fix the leak, but the end result is he should try another line of work. FOLLOWUP: Following my less than positive review, I decided to call the company and ask for a refund. While I stand by my review, regarding the work, I am compelled to update it, now a few days later. When I called and explained the situation to the lady that answered the phone, she was very quick to offer a full refund of the $200 paid to the company. This, of course, pleased me very much and while the job was not completed satisfactorally, I did not end up with a bill for work that was not completed.
Description of Work: I had a small leak in the copper plumbing near the base of the wall behind my water heater. I removed the water heater, opened a 24x24 hole in the sheetrock to expose the pipes and determine where the leak was originating. I relied on Angie's list to contact a plumber who was available. I explained in detail the situation and that I did not feel comfortable soldering the pipe. Angel, nice and professional provided me with an estimate of $227 to perform the work. I realized, of course, that he hadn't actually seen the leak, but I really felt like $227 was quite high for this soldering job that was already opened up for him and ready to go. However, I accepted the price because he was readily available. He arrived in an unmarked van,, but explained his van had been involved in an accident and was in the repair shop. He brought in his tools and supplies in a bucket. He appeared to have the correct parts to complete the job. However, he had problems getting the water out of the line and was not able to stop the leak. He advised that the water valve was unable to completely shut off the water. So, we went to Lowes and he picked out what he needed and I paid for it...another $90. We came back and cut the water line and installed a new cuttoff. However, it turned out that was unnecessary because there was no water flowing past the old valve, and certainly no water with the pipe cut. He continued to work on the leak but was unable to fix it...still blaming it on the water in the line. He advised he could return and dig a hole outside the wall to the service line, drill a hole throught the wall for a new water supply line and completely redo the "manafold" behind the water heater for an additional $550. That would have been a total of over $860. He appeared to be frustrated over not being able to fix the leak but was willing to give it another try for the extra $550. My neighbor, who has experience as a handyman, told him he wasn't using the right method and was incorrect (in his opinion) as how he was handling the water situation and that he did not feel the new cuttoff valve was necessary. I paid $200 (less my 10% discount for senior citizen) to the plumber, with the water now spraying out rather than dripping, and told him I would think about my next action after considering the circumstances, evaluating his work, and the fact that I just paid $290 total for nothing. So, we had no water Friday night.

The plumber (Jed) arrived right on time. He quickly installed the replacement bathtub spigot (and did a better job or sealing the seam around the wall plate than the original installer). He then also performed a re-seat (new wax ring) of the wobbly toilet after checking to make sure the floor plate was not cracked. Jed was an all-around professional, left no mess to clean up, and even did a courtesy clean-out of a slow draining sink. It was a pleasure having Jed do the work.

We had a leaky water connection in our courtyard and we leveraged an "Angie's Deal" to get plumbing services. The gentleman was on time and professional. Because he had to dig a few inches to reach the joint, there was a significant surcharge; I was a little surprised and he informed me of the charge during the inspection of the problem. There was a crack in the PVC and he made a trip to the local Home Depot to get the necessary parts. While he waited for the glue to dry, he looked around for other things to do. We had some leaves in the runoff so he clean it out.

***** Thank you for posting this report on Angie's List. Your kindness is much appreciated. Your feedback on our technician is invaluable. You stated that he was "on time and professional." Thank you for letting me know that we are performing just as we want to when we visit your home. Unless I actually visit the job site (which I do on occasion), the only way that I, as an Owner, can see a picture of our service is through your eyes and words. So, thank you again for your clarity. Thank you for also mentioning that charges may rise (from the estimated work and cost from our Office) according to the actual work to be done. Only a visual inspection can determine the actual work needed. Of course, when chipping through 2 inches of concrete as we did at your home, our labor costs rise. I appreciate your understanding of the technician's inspection and his report to you concerning the problem. If, however, you ever feel that you do not yet understand the plumbing problems you are facing, be sure to ask the technician any questions you may have. And, if you are still not comfortable, please call our Office. We want to insure that you have a clear understanding of any plumbing issues. Thanks also for reporting that our technician cleaned out your runoff area. We have seen this kind of "going the extra mile" attitude from our technicians over and over. And, as I am sure you noticed, this comes solely at the technician's discretion. I am always impressed when I hear about their actions in this regard, because it truly comes from the heart. Please call any time we may be of service! With best regards, Dixie

Well, the purchase was $99.00 for an hour of plumbing (not including the parts) He was able to determine the leak behind the washer (packing something) and fixed fast. When I asked him about the drip in the master bath, I was told it would be better to replace the entire faucet. He did not seem interested in fixing the faucet. If fixing the faucet would have extended more than the hour allotted, I would have been more than happy to pay for the extra time.

******* Thank you for taking the time to post this report on our Company, Texas Plumbing Diagnostics. I appreciate that, several months later, you were still interested in giving a testimonial. The $99 purchase you made of an Angie's List Big Deal was for $200 worth of plumbing services, and that amount did include parts and labor. As I look at the Invoice form for your service, I see that we replaced your washer hose bibbs, reconnected your washer machine, and noticed no leaks. Because the amount of the service did not go over $200, you owed nothing more for the service performed. However, as noted on the coupon, we do not give refunds on any of the $200 that is not used. I have discussed this job with my technician, Angel, and he reports that he discussed the faucet repair or replacement with you. He says that your polished brass faucet was broken and decaying. With a faucet in poor condition, we can attempt a repair, but we neither warranty older faucets nor the success of the attempted repair. Sometimes, when we attempt to repair an older faucet, it may leave it in worse condition, due to the fragile condition it is in before we begin the attempt. I do notice that these comments by the technician were not on the Invoice, and I apologize for our lack of communication in this regard. Any time you, as a customer, feel that your desires are not being considered or understood by our technicians, please contact our Office. I'll be happy to speak with you directly, and I'll do my best to insure that you get the service you require. One more note: When you want to replace a faucet, we ask that you purchase the faucet you want to use. We have found that, when we supply the faucet, we may not get the exact finish or style that the customer prefers. I have a couple of supply houses that I recommend for customers. If you'd like to get my recommendation, please call our Office at 210-698-9790. Thanks again for your interest in our Company. We'll look forward to serving you again in the future. Dixie
