We needed to replace both of our AC/Furnace units. They were 17 years old and had been repaired on and off over the last few years. We had looked into replacing them before with energy efficient units but the quotes we kept getting were in excess of $16,000 so we kept delaying it. This year we knew we wanted to bite the bullet and get it done before the summer heat hit. We didn't want it to break down in the middle of the summer like before. I got quotes from a number of reputable companies. I also got a quote from the Costco program. Every one of my quotes were in excess of $16,000. With the exception of SA Specialties. The same work, with a longer warranty and 10 year service appts came to less than $13,000. I won't lie, this made me very nervous. Why were they so much cheaper? I had a great salesperson (Alex) give me a quote. He spent an hour here looking at my current system. He told me that their company does a higher volume of sales of new systems and can pass on that discount. I felt so skeptical.... I really did. Why was this company so much less? I scoured the internet in search of reviews. I checked out the BBB. I never had plans to join Angie's List.... why would I pay a "fee" to see reviews? I thought that was crazy. But here I was with all these quotes for a very expensive purchase. And I needed to make a choice. And the difference was thousands.... So I joined up to Angies list and read everything I could on SA Specialties and the other company's I was considering. While they all had excellent reviews, why would I not save thousands for the very SAME Lennox system??? I made sure I was comparing apples to apples. Model numbers etc. I made the decision to go forward after talking to the owner Jason. I actually called in to get some questions answered about the extended warranty and the owner Jason actually got on the phone to answer those questions. Very professional. They came the next day to put in my new system. I got a call to know they were on their way. I cannot say enough about the install team that came here. They were beyond professional, each and every one. Both my husband and myself were here all day and they took the time to update us and answer any questions that I had. They even went above and beyond and installed 2 new thermostats I purchased at Lowe's that day! The system came with basic digital thermostats but I wanted a particular one I read reviews about. And they took care of it for us. They made sure they protected my hallway, stairs and carpet during their work. They cleaned up everything in the yard. They were done right around the time they said they would be. The system seems to be working great! While the other companies tried to "upsell" me to a more expensive unit, SA Specialties offered me the best system for my home. All seems to be working quite well. It is painful to have to spend that much money all at once. But I slept well last night knowing I made the right decision on choosing SA Specialties. I have no doubt I got an awesome system and paid the best price I could. This is the first time I have ever worked with an AC company that seemed to care. Everyone else seemed to want to nickel and dime me. I highly recommend them! I have already passed on their name to my neighbor's who also want to get their systems replaced! Also...my $13,000 price was BEFORE my CPS Rebate. SA Specialties didn't try to give me a bottom figure with that included to make the numbers better. They let me know how much I would pay, and then in a different section outlined the $1000 I was getting back from CPS. Everyone else included the CPS rebate and showed a final price after rebate...

At first we were totally impressed with this company. We got a brand new unit for a great price in September 2014. We were told that this new unit would be energy efficient and make our ac/heating bill go down. Our installation went very smoothly; They were quick and efficient. Luckily, we also got a year of service and labor included. For the month and a half we were very pleased, but then it got cold and we turned on the heat... This is where things started to go wrong. When things warmed up and the heater wasn't necessary we turned on the ac, but the ac only blew WARM air. So on 11-21-14, a technician came out and reported that a switch on the cooling board had to be reset and that we should be fine. Then our energy bills skyrocketed! Our energy bills have never been as high as they have been with this new "energy efficient" unit. And when the heater would turn on it would blow cooler air before the air heated up. Once again we called (around January 2015) and a technician informed us that the unit hadn't been set up to cycle correctly and that heating cost more. He also said that our unit has two heat strips and only had had been turned on, so he turned both on. Fast forward a month and once again when we went from heat to ac- it blew WARM air AGAIN!!! So 2-21-15 another technician came out. First off, he seemed uninterested in helping and seemed to be in a rush. He said it was the cooling board once again. He also informed my husband that they have had this problem on several other units like ours and they had to replace this part... BUT he didn't offer to do that on our unit. SERIOUSLY?! Now we sit here a week later in a house that smells like burnt plastic as our BRAND NEW UNIT has once again messed up! So yesterday, 3-1-15 another technician came out and confirmed that our BRAND NEW UNIT has a burnt heating strip and would have to wait until they could get the part to get it replaced... So we have been sitting in our disgusting smelling house for 24 hours. And nothing I have tried to get rid of the smell works. I'd also like to add that this technician informed us that we should've had only one heating strip turned on. I'm flabbergasted! We are now waiting on another service visit today 3-2-15 to replace several parts on our BRAND NEW UNIT. So, if you are keeping count this will be FIVE service visits within 6 months of having a new unit installed. My husband spoke with the owner/manager today and we were assured that everything will be fixed. I'm not holding my breath at this point. This has been a total nightmare. I would recommend going somewhere else that will provide you with a working unit. If you call on a Saturday be prepared that the phone will be answered by someone at their own house and you can hear their children screaming in the background. It's extremely unprofessional. Keep in mind too that they don't have access to service records and don't even know when or if they have ever been to your house. (And that's even if you call during the week.) Be warned that technicians don't always specifically state what they have done to your unit.. For instance on one of our many service calls the technician simply stated that our house was a Centex house and drafty. Really helpful... NOT! *A whopping two weeks later now (3-13-15) and we have had to switch from heat to ac and guess what?! Our ac isn't blowing cold. Our thermostat has been set at 70 ALL DAY, but the house has not been below 75- that's with the unit running continuously ALL DAY. I can only imagine what our energy bill will be this month. We are looking at service call number six. I guarantee we will not be offered a replacement unit without us having to push this option. We feel as though this company is trying to ride out the one year service warranty without having to replace the unit.

In response to [member name removed]’s review of our aftercare performance: First let me say that we take customer service issues very seriously in our company. We have in the past and currently work hard to maintain our A+ rating with both Angie’s List and the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately management got involved with this customer’s issues at too late a time in the process. For this we must apologize. I immediately took this to the owner’s attention and he personally called the [member name removed]’s and we are replacing the entire system this afternoon. In doing so we hope to regain the trust the [member name removed] ’s placed in us the day they made their decision to purchase. Jim Mckelvy General Manager

SA Specialties as part of their purchase plan allows for scheduled maintenance checks for a period of time. I received a call from Vanessa stating it was time to schedule a routine check. I called back but was told Vanessa had left for the day and I cannot recall whom I spoke with but we scheduled an appointment the following week for Feb 12 with a window of 12 - 5. They would call to give 30 minutes notice. Fast forward to the 12th. I received a call from Rosemary at 2:00 telling me my maintenance contract was expired but she had a technician on standby that could come to my house. The charge would be $125 for the visit or $250 for a 1 year maintenance contract. I asked why this wasn't divulged at the time I made my appointment or prior to the visit. She really didn't have an answer for that. Needless to say I was incensed. My time was wasted as I worked my schedule to accommodate a visit. It felt like the old bait and switch.

The original call to [member name removed] was made by our dispatcher Vanessa. She left a message for [member name removed] to return a call about her maintenance agreement. (Her agreement had expired and Vanessa was calling to offer her a renewal). She returned the call after Vanessa was off for the day and it was taken by Ruby. Ruby and [member name removed] scheduled a service time together, both of them unaware that the agreement had expired. On the day of the scheduled service our dispatcher Rosemary noticed that the agreement was expired and called [member name removed] before we dispatched a technician to let her know. She explained that the annual renewal charge for both a.c systems would be with discount $115 each or $70 each for a one-time service. [member name removed] got very upset and Rosemary tried to explain the error and that we were not sending a technician out without her approval. Rosemary tried to apologize but it was not well received. We understand that she worked her schedule to accommodate a service, but the service has a fee attached to it and we let her know just a soon as we realized the error before we dispatched our technician.

Unit installation went well but forgot to mention "no cost" installment payment plan (purposefully)...tenant not available so no instructions etc. given. This part went well...on time, no install problems etc. As to the service/maintenance plans, this was a whole different story. I have been dealing with A/C servicers for years and I just assumed what their service visits included - BIG MISTAKE. They visited the 3 other houses ... not one of the tenants were satisfied with their performance - (a) one said they came and went so fast they were not sure what was performed, (b) another they came and spent some time and did not pay attention, and (c) the last one asked me why they had come. These visits were done in July 2014. Well, not 30 days had passed and the ceiling over the downstairs dining room collapsed (comment (a) above). I immediately called them and was told by top guy allegedly that they had done everything their technician was obligated to do under service plan, but could not explain why this would happen and no comment on his alleged service report noted any drain problem. Several calls followed. I told them that it cost more than $600 to fix and provided photos taken one month before their service visit, before repair, and after repair. It was obvious that technician had failed to clean the secondary drain which directly resulted in ceiling collapse. First they told me he only cleans ONE DRAIN, another told me he did not have to clean ANY DRAIN, and another told me he cleaned BOTH DRAINS?all in accordance with service ? maintenance plan. They refused to take any responsibility nor offer even one alternative reason the ceiling collapsing?I was so incensed that I cancelled the remaining service visits to be come under the plans except the new A/C installation that obligated them to one more visit. I n my 40 years of dealing with contractors, I had NEVER run into such a blank WALL of absolute denial of responsibility for service not performed. Then they intimidated the tenant with the new A/C after first refusing to service him as provided for under contract. Their service contract meant in reality that you pay them to come visit and write a report as to things you needed to pay them to perform?not to come and perform routine maintenance on a unit. I intend to pursue this legally in the future.

In response to homeowners' review of our preventative maintenance service at his rental properties: We did install a new 5 ton air conditioning and heating system in one of his properties. And as he has stated, everything went well during the installation and is working well at this time. I have absolutely no idea what he is talking about when he says we forgot to mention a "no cost" payment plan. We do not have a payment plan available. We do offer "no interest financing" in every one of our newspaper advertisements. Every client we contract with has the option to qualify with the finance company we do business with at the time of purchase. He opted for another for of payment. He did purchase annual service agreements for 3 other properties at a discounted price of $100.00 each. Normal price is $125 per system. (We did not install these system and each one varies in age and condition.) This includes 2 visits a year. a "spring check " and a "fall check". At his request I e-mailed a copy of our written agreement check list. During our first "spring check" to the three rental properties we performed all items on the list. At only $50.00 per visit this is a comprehensive inspection to insure the system is in good condition to go into the cooling season. If we observe items that need or may need repairs, we not this and bring it to the owner's attention. There is of course a cost involved for recommended repairs. The homeowner assumed that all maintenance and repairs should be included with the $100.00 annual fee. It is not. Any reasonable person would understand that. Once again, we did not install these systems or make any reference to the annual agreement covering repairs needed. Now, concerning the collapsed ceiling that he thinks we should be responsible to repair, I have no idea how he comes to that assumption. We are not responsible for his home plumbing or the many years of dirt and sludge that can accumulate in the drainage system. When we clear the air conditioner drain during a service, we pour water into the drain and follow that with a low pressure nitrogen purge to help move any accumulation of sludge down the drainage system. We then pour about a gallon of water again into the drain line to prove that is is draining at time of service. Now the homeowner claims that since his ceiling collapsed 30 days after we performed the routine maintenance on the system that we are somehow responsible his home drainage system . Somehow our technician did not foresee and advise him that the drain would clog in 30 days. Remember, we did not install this system. Now I have a question, why would homeowner have photos of the ceiling taken one month before our service was performed? Now homeowner claims that we are not taking responsibility for repairs to his rental home. We are not. We are not responsible for damage to his home due to issues we did not cause. We do however, stand behind our service. In speaking with this man over the phone, I found him to be very unreasonable, stating over and over that because in his opinion we did not perform what he assumed to be an all inclusive service or notifying him that his drain would clog again in 30 days, we are liable for home repairs caused by his air conditioning system. We are not. We did refund him for the unused portion of the annual agreements and choose not to do service for him in the future.

I WAS A BIT DISAPPOINTED WHEN THE WORKER SAID THE PRICE ONLY INCLUDED ONE A/C. HE SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER $125. TO CHECK THE OTHER A/C. I THOUGHT $250.00 JUST TO INSPECT TWO A/C AND TWO HEATERS WAS TOO EXPENSIVE. HE SAID ALL UNITS CHECKED OUT AND OPERATING PROPERLY. HE SAID NO REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE NEEDED. AFTER THE INSPECTION, HE ADVISED ME THAT ONE A/C UNIT HE INSPECTED WAS A LITTLE LOW ON COOLANT. HE SAID TO ADD THE R-22 WOULD COST ME ANOTHER $90. I ASKED HIM WHETHER TOPPING OFF THE COOLANT WAS NECESSARY. HE JUST SAID IT WAS UP TO ME,W/O GIVING ME HIS PROFESSIONAL OPINION.

Service was above and beyond my best expectations. I had become frustrated with my 30-year old central unit for I was having to operate it manually so I decided to get some estimates for a total system replacement. I am new to Angies List so decided to only call those who were Angie Award winners. I had gotten several estimates that ranged from $6400-$7100 and then I emailed SA Specialties late Tuesday evening. At 8:30am Wednesday morning I got a call from them to set up an appointment between 10-11am this same morning. Their repesentative arrived right on time and went through my system and addressed my needs with a total price of $4798 and they had an opening to do the installation the next morning. I was flabbergasted and had the representative go through all the work they would do for this price. I accepted the bid and he told me the crew would arrive around 8-8:30 the next morning. Sure enough, I got a call at 7:30 this morning to alert me that the crew was on their way to my home. They arrived at 8am and commenced with the job. Around 9:30am the installation supervisor knocked at my door to let me know that he had come by to insure all was going well and asked if I had any questions or comments. I let him know that all was OK and he thanked me for my business and went on his way. At 11:30am the crew chief let me know that all was complete and he wanted me to go through what he had completed. Not only did they replace my system but also they rebuilt the gas flue pipe all the way through the roof, rebuilt the air plenum, installed a new electrical cut off box and new concrete pad for the exterior unit, a new thermostat, replaced the gas connection line, added conduit for a bare wire that had been part of my old system, and installed a new plywood deck for the interior unit. I was totally impressed not only with their remarkable price but also all the really professional sales and crew members they sent. Oh, also wanted to mention that I was also given a financing package of 25 months financing at zero interest and nothing down. With all the "shysters" out there, I could not believe the outstanding experience I had with this company. They did more than they promised and never suggested an up-charge for anything. Now I know why they have multiple Angie Awards and an A rating.

SA Specialties had done routine servicing of my two AC units in April. We called them out recently when during a trip into the attic we noticed water dripping onto the attic floor around one of the units. The repair person said the drain line was partially clogged and the float switch was not working. He indicated that this should have been found during the last check up. We showed him damage to our ceiling directly below the AC unit which we had been having a roof repair company try to find the source of. He agreed it could have come from the AC unit overflowing the pan and the malfunctioning float switch not shutting off the unit as it is supposed to do to avoid the type of ceiling damage we have. We asked him to have a manager call. When we got a call, we were told it could not be from the AC unit because our house would have been flooded if it were. I found that to be a ridiculous excuse to try to avoid the responsibility for poor service and the resulting damage.

We did perform a Spring Check for this property owner on 4/8/14. At that time, the float switch – which we did not install – was in fact functioning properly. The property owner called on 8/13/14 stating there was a water leak outside of the drain pan. Upon arrival, the drain line was clogged and the float switch was defective. We found that where the drain terminates into the vent, in the attic – the connection was not connected. We advised the property owner to contact a plumber, regarding plumbing issues with the home. Then, went on to replace the float switch and purge the drain line. We advised the property owner we did not know how long the unit would drain - due to plumbing issues. We did have a manager speak with the property owner to explain the situation. We cannot be held accountable for a part (float switch) that we did not install.

Knowledgeable Salesperson who did not high-pressure sell us. Company called to let us know they were on their way (on-time too). Installers were very professional, polite and kept us informed. Everything went great and they went the extra mile to ensure our inside attic air handler had a back up drain just in case the float switch did not activate as overflowing water in the ceiling would be a disaster-this backup drain extending to the outside was not installed with the old unit, they did not charge us extra for this and did not try to add any additional costs at all. We could not be happier as we had several companies bid and SA Specialties were the most cost effective. The new Lennox unit is very quiet compared to our old unit. I will revisit and give an update in six months to discuss initial reliability. Thanks for a great job SA Specialties!

I had initially rated this company an A due to the great service when they installed our unit and they were fantastic about following up with us when winter came to make sure our heater was ready for the colder weather. However, we recently had the AC unit leaking and water was in our hallway carpet. Getting in touch with a dispatcher and getting the repair person out proved to be more difficult that I would have expected. It took over 4 hours to get in touch with someone and we had to argue with the technician who wanted to make us wait until the following day. He finally came out and checked the unit and said that the instructions we had been given for maintenance of our unit were incorrect and that we were not supposed be pouring vinegar in the tube because that would cause the algae to grow faster. He stated he would clear the tubes and that it would take care of the problem. 30 minutes and $100 later he is on his way out the door claiming the problem was fixed. Upon closer inspection we saw that the unit was still leaking, we immediately called the dispatcher who called the technician and relayed a message that this was normal and would stop. It did not stop. however, my husband was able to determine that there was another clog in the tube at a higher point than where it had been blown out and was able to get water flowing enough to stop the unit from leaking. He called the next day and let the dispatcher now what had happened and stated that since we had paid for the tubes to be cleared out but they in fact had not been he wanted to have someone come back out to complete the job that had been paid for. Monday he heard back from Jim, the manager of this location, who then proceeded to accuse my husband of lying about the leak continuing and calling him names. When my husband asked to speak to someone else he was informed that Jim has spoken to the owner and has his backing and refused to put us into contact with anyone else. I tried contacting another branch in hopes of getting an owner or another manager to call me back but after almost a week I've come to realize that this company must not feel they have done anything wrong in the way they treated us and are simply going to ignore us. So be warned, while they are fantastic about helping you get a unit if you expect any time of actual customer service beyond that you'll be sorely disappointed.

I scheduled 3 vendors to provide estimates and SA Specialties was the was the second vendor on my schedule but after hearing what they had to offer I was ready to sign. The installation was the following day and the 2 crews was very professional and kept me informed during the installation. It's only been a few days but the new unit is very quiet compared to the old unit and the house is much cooler.

My AC was not cooling house adequately so I called SA Specialities. Robert from SA Specialties fixed a freon leak in an A/C unit. After the weld repair, he thoroughly checked the system using several tests. No charge for the repair. Robert knew a lot about the system and was professional and friendly.

When they came out, they drove under an Oak tree and broke an 8 inch limb off of it. And when they installed the unit, it took them twice as long as they said it would take. And they accused me of being a liar on multiple occasions.

Response from SA Specialties
We replaced one of two systems for Mr. [member name removed]. We completed this job the same day. On the system we did not replace, he insisted that our installers opened a space on his old AC to cool the attic while they worked. Our installed said they did not do that and we disagreed about that. We never called him a liar. He spoke to our GM, Jim, very condescendingly and would talk over him when he tried to respond. He hung up on Jim before the issue could be resolved. He has been rude to just about every employee he has spoken with and we choose not to do business with him on his other system. We of course will honor the warranty on the system we installed.

I called SA Specialties to inquire about an ad I saw on TV about a whole house AC change out. Rosemary took my information over the phone. Within 24 hours I was contacted by Doug, one of their sales coordinators. He came to my home, took measurements and gave me a written estimate for the work to be performed. After I agreed to the terms the installation was scheduled. Ray, Joseph and Phil arrived on the day and time specified. They performed the work required in an understanding, caring and professional manner. The work was completed in about 4 hours and, according to the agreement, the old units and installation debris was hauled away by the installers. There was an additional item noted on the estimate that, if necessary, would have been installed and charged for accordingly. It was not needed and therefore I was not charged. The day after installation Rosemary called to follow up with me regarding this installation. Because of their professionalism, honesty and integrity, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SA Specialties for your HVAC replacement services.

Company installed AC/Heat Pump System and the Warranty said it came with two free service checks within the first year, but when company was called to set up the service checks and was told that it was too early. They came out in late December and did one service check, but I had to initiate that because they never did the automatic scheduling as promised. When I asked a supervisor, she was told her warranty for that had expired and it was not honored. As far as the quality of equipment was good, however took much longer to install than you were told and they were late for the install. The company is not very good and when you call the company they are not very responsive.
