It went fine. They gave me two or three options for repair. Explained pluses and minuses of each one. Very simple. Not complicated.
Description of Work: Found a freon leak in our refrigerator from a valve installed by a previous repairman. Removed faulty valve and replaced with proper one. Recharged with freon. Freon is ridiculously expensive and was about 65% of the total cost.

I called about 1000 am on the morning of 9-9-14 and was scheduled for an appointment between 9;00 am and 1:00 pm the next day. However, the operator advised me that if they had a cancellation or no show, they might be able to come out today. Sure enough, George called me at about 2:30 pm, came out and diagnosed the problem right away. He just charged me for the service call and took my $10 off coupon, which came to $45. This is the only top rated Angie's List member that also has an A+ rating with the BBB. I highly recommend My Repairman for their honesty, promptness, and most of all trying to save me money. George advised me if this fix doesn't work, he may have to order a heater kit. There is a technical service bulletin for this whirlpool model and serial #. However, choosing the most cost efficient method for now is a great option. Thanks, George, for your courtesy, professionalism and satisfying the consumer's needs in a cost effective manner.
Description of Work: Rewired the harness in my whirlpool refrigerator and advised me that a heater kit may be needed in the future, if this does not fix my condensation problem. There is a technical service bulletin for this whirlpool model and serial # for the heater kit.

Our freezer had stopped cooling. George came and figured out that the internal fan was stuck. He adjusted the fan and the freezer was working within 30 minutes of his arrival. He was on time and called before he came. He also didn't charge me because we had used My Repairman twice before (dishwasher and oven) and this fix didn't require any new parts. I will definitely use them for any appliance problem I have in the future.

Mr. Estrada was able to fix the problem on the spot by changing out the heating element and fuse. The dryer was clogged within the walls which caused the problem to occur. Very informative on what he was doing and necessary steps we needed to do in order to maintain the warranty. Thank You Mr. Estrada for the good and fast job.

Outstanding knowledge and workmanship. Walked in and opened the freezer door and said it is not defrosting. Had not removed a screw or anything. We emptied the freezer. He took the back plate out. Removed the heating element tube and it was burned out. He replaced it and then defrosted the freezer to jump start it returning to normal quickly. And that was that!!! I thought I'd be buying a new fridge for $2000.00. I liked this much better . . . $153.47. Excellent people to work with from the office to the door!

Called 8am Monday morning and received a call back within an hour. Scheduled an appointment for the afternoon and they kept that appointment with a courtesy call beforehand. It turns out our kitchen had the refrigerator on the same circuit as a nearby GFI switch. The GFI witch had tripped. I had checked the circuit breakers, but did not think to check nearby GFI switches. They also cleaned the condenser coil and the air-intake vent cover that leads to it. They suggested we clean those each 6 months or have them do it once a year. George suggested that if it happens again, we should try replacing the GFI switch. They tend to get old and trip too easily. If that doesn't work, we should consider correcting the electric and putting the refrigerator on it's own 20amp circuit. If the condenser is getting old, it could also create the problem, but that would be an expensive fix (in the order of $1,000 for the condenser). I was very happy with the service. It was so quick I didn't even need to unload the refrigerator. I just put some ice in it until they had it fixed. George and a trainee assistant did the work.Their office was also nice and professional.

My washing machine broke suddenly, luckily I purchased an extended warranty through Square Trade to cover the cost. I was allowed to choose my own provider and I chose My Repairman based off the "A" rating on Angie's List. What a mistake that was. This company was a total headache and unprofessional. I am usually the one to write positive reviews and it saddens me to have to leave a bad review for this company, but the lack of competence and professionalism was surprising. Here is what happened: Called Square Trade Warranty and described the problem to them, they sent a part with next day shipping and I scheduled an appointment with Mr Repairmen. I chose to not use the repairman from Square Trade since it could take longer for them to arrive and I was leaving for vacation within a week and needed my repair done quickly. Making the appointment was simple and the woman I spoke to on the phone was friendly. The repairman was able to come while I wasn't home by entering the garage which was very convenient. The repairman called me while he was at my house and had finished making the repair saying the part didn't seem to be broken and he didn't understand what was wrong with the machine. He had not done a test run of the unit. I told him what happens to the machine, it doesn't stop filling with water when turned on a cycle. He still didn't understand why the unit was misbehaving and couldn't figure out a diagnostic. Since the machine was acting odd when I was trying to use it after it broke, the cycles were running oddly and the timer kept starting over on the digital display. I suggested running a load through the wash, the towels I tried to wash the night before were in the dryer. The repairman said he would check it out. He ran the load and didn't seem to be able to figure out what the problem was still. This led me to inquire if the broken part may actually be the computer. After 10 minutes or so I get another call and it was indeed the computer, it was fried. I was a little surprised that the repairman couldn't diagnose the issue without me first suggesting what specific parts may be broken, even after describing the problem in detail to him multiple times. I am not a appliance repair person and don't know all the names to the part, if I hadn't suggested the computer my machine would not have been repaired. I came home to soaking wet towels in a hot garage sitting in the washing machine I received a call later saying the part would take one week to order and cost almost $400 plus labor. I wasn't going to be home in a week, I would be on vacation and I needed this fixed before then. I called back the warranty company and they got me the part within two days and said the part only costs retail $200. Once I knew when the part was coming I called back Mr Repairman and made an appointment for the next day (since the shipments happen after 5 pm and the repairmen won't come after 5 pm) The woman on the phone was pleasant and made me an appointment while I was at work so the repair could be done by entering my garage. I received a call the day the repairman was at my home asking me what he had to do. The man was a different one from the guy who came out 2 days prior and was not informed on the repair. He did not know any background details or had any notes about the repair and I had to reexplain everything. the man who did the first repair attempt was on vacation and the company did not provide their staff with any details. This was very unprofessional. I later received a call from the repairman after the he had already left my house saying the part was replaced but he couldn't plug the unit in due to a child lock on my outlet. The is no child lock on my outlet. The outlets in my house are up to code (newer house) and have the standard child safety features, which is the little plastic "doors" that only allow plugs to enter the outlet. I couldn't understand how a grown man who is a repairman, who just repaired the computer in my washing machine couldn't plug it in. The problem I had was he left without being able to test the unit, so he had no idea if the repair even made my machine work again or not. I called the main office to discuss the situation and the woman on the phone quickly turned from happy to snippy and mean. They are nice until you have a problem or complaint, then they respond increasingly in a hostile. The resolution was that I can plug it in when I get home and see if it works, if it doesn't they can come back out the following week (which wouldn't work since I was leaving on vacation the very next morning and needed to do laundry that night). The woman on the phone quickly turned to accusing me of having a child locked outlet that I should have warned about ahead of time. Again, this outlet is a newer outlet that is up to code. ALL newer houses have them and this company was trying to lame me for not letting them know about a standard outlet. They claimed they weren't electricians and it wasn't there job to fix outlets ? it went on and on. So instead of giving me a resolution the hostility continued and I requested that a manger contact me. They told me to call and leave a message when I got home if the machine worked or not after I plugged it in. Turns out it did work, thank goodness. But after the confrontation from these people I did not call back. I felt it didn't matter at that point after they way I was treated. While I was on vacation my credit card was charged for the repair. When I returned I tried to submit the two emailed recipients to submit my claim at Square Trade. Both receipts were from different processors and were too generic to submit. So after calling back 3 times and over 2 months later I finally have an invoice and could submit my repair for the warranty company. I also requested to speak with a manager 2 times and still to this day have never heard from one. I will not use this company again, they made this repair much more complicated and stressful than it had to be. The repairmen didn't know what they were doing and couldn't figure out what the problem was on their own. When trying to file a complaint or have a resolution the phone people become rude and hostile.

I called My Repairman yesterday to fix my washing machine, and I was happy to hear that they would be able to come out within a few hours. I explained that I wouldn't be home until after noon, so they said they would have someone come out after that. They said that someone would call 30 minutes prior to the repairman's arrival. I waited at home all afternoon, and became concerned when it got close to 5:00. I tried to call the office but no one answered the phone. The repairman never showed up. I called back this morning to find out what was going on, and after being placed on hold for quite sometime, the woman who answered the phone apologized but offered no excuse for the missed appointment or the lack of phone call to say that they wouldn't be able to make it. She also said that no one could come out today to fix my washing machine. The next time they had someone in my area wouldn't be until tomorrow. I'm very disappointed with this lack of service. I have used My Repairman in the past, but I won't in the future.

George called thirty minutes before arriving and was right on time. As soon as I finished explaining what was not happening with the washer he appeared to know exactly what the problem was. He dis- mantled the washer, removed and replaced the filler valve. After re-assembling the machine he flushed the water lines to make sure all was well. He then replaced the defective dryer door switch. George was very professional and expedited the repairs. He carefully explained the billing process and gave me a discount for being an Angie's member. He's at the top of my call list for any future problems!

Called for svc call saying refrigerator was not cooling. Alex came out , nice demeanor and seemed very knowledgeable, he opened up freezer checked coils and defrost. He couldn?t find anything wrong with the refrigerator, he did find a screw holding freezer door had been stripped and not holding a tight door seal. For $70.00 he could drill old screw out and input new screw. This plus the $55.00 svc call totaled $125.00, this was acceptable if it could fix the problem. Thirty minutes later screw was still there, he said he didn?t have the proper tools to complete the drilling and he would be back tomorrow. The next day, 2nd trip he suggested checking the condenser coil, which had not been done the previous day. The coils were covered in pet hair and needed to be cleaned. He didn?t have a brush or a vacuum. So while he started drilling the screw out, I got a toothbrush and shop vac and cleaned the coils myself. Thirty minutes later we were both done. It wasn?t until he had left that I noticed the screw he put in never tightened. It was in place but I could turn it continuously by hand. I called the company and asked for them to come out a third time but requested someone who would have the proper tools or correct size screw. George came out, put in a larger screw and door hung fine. Maybe because it was the end of the day and 100 degrees outside, or maybe because it was their 3rd trip to my home . But the second rep was gruff, intimidatingly gruff. Physically rocking refrigerator while inputting screw, stating he wanted to make sure it wouldn?t come out, he also added I had been under charged and instead of $70.00, I should have been charged $170.00 (It was for one screw, $170.00 seems a bit steep for one screw). Both reps were knowledgeable, and educated me about cleaning the coils with pets in the house. And even though the first rep didn?t? have the tools for this job, I would request him and use this company again.

Response from My Repairman
Thank You for your comment [Member name removed]. My repairman does it very best to provide same day service and repair, however every appliance is different and unfortunately that’s not always the case. Although our technicians carry a large amount of stock on the vehicle they are not able to carry every part needed. Because of this there is times where we need to return to the home with parts. We do explain this to our customers when asked our turn around time during scheduling. The screw the first tech had was the screw that the refrigerator usually requires. Although, because the unit had already been damaged by the moving company, it did need a larger screw which he didn’t have with him. Which resulted in a third visit. Our technicians try their best to please the customer and have no problem returning when needed. Our third trip was a same day trip to get the problem resolved, and in no way was the tech upset about having to fix the refrigerator. It’s in our policy that there is a 90 day warranty on all parts and labor. We do apologize if it caused any setback due to us having to return for a third trip. We are glad the refrigerator got repaired and look forward to working with you in the future. Thank You again.

Total of 2 visits. First visit they were punctual and very courteous. Checked the fan on the stove top and assessed that it was a bad switch. Did not have it repaired as the repairman noted it could be manually plugged in to turn it on, and cost of repair was fairly high. Very happy he mentioned this option. Dishwasher would not leak when he was here. This required a second visit. Second visit was at no cost as they were already out once and it would not leak and I paid the service fee. This was nice to not have to pay a second fee. Second visit the repairman missed his window (11am-3pm). This was not ideal, however they were very courteous and scheduled an exact time with me for the visit. So I was not happy they missed the window, but they allowed me to pick the exact time for the follow-up visit. When they came out for the follow-up they assessed the dishwasher needed to be replaced. Gave options for us and were very friendly and informative.

George showed up on time and did trouble-shooting on our washer to find out why the spin cycle wasn't working. After eliminating all the other possibilities, he discovered that a sock had somehow ended up beneath the tub and was preventing it from spinning. The repairman was nice, clean-cut, and thoroughly explained the issue, and after shopping their estimate, their price seemed fairly reasonable. We disagreed with their parts policy--the part needed to repair our washing machine was free from LG, but a service company had to order the part (LG wouldn't ship directly to us). When I called to see if My Repairman would work with us, save us $138 for the part, I was shocked when the receptionist told me that would be against their policy. The customer service was totally lacking (with the exception of the repairman himself). I had to contact them multiple times, and not once (even when trying to schedule a job!) did someone return a call--I had to persist. Throughout the phonecalls to schedule a time to complete the work, I had to do all the communicating. I wasn't even sure we had an appointment for Wednesday until nearly the end of their business day Tuesday, again, only because I called back. I sent an email to try to notify the business of their poor customer care, but no one ever responded to that, either. At the end of the day, our washer is working again, and My Repairman completed the job in a timely manner.

When I called, the customer service is/was wonderful. It is Friday afternoon, and I knew the chance of having a working frig this weekend would be slim. Jennifer told me that if you they would be here first thing Monday morning, or if they had a cancellation, they would be here this afternoon. Not even 1 hour later, Alex called to tell me he was on his way. He discovered the cause of the failure, and very quickly fixed my frig with a part he had on the truck. He seems very knowledgeable and so nice. I will call them again.

My refrigerator temperature started going up after the big rain storm we had this week and was no longer cool enough to keep food in safely. Alex came out within a couple hours of my call to the dispatcher. He called when he was on his way, as they always do. It's a fairly old fridge, from about 1999 but has only had one other issue. Alex went through everything that could need repair at some time to help me decide if I should just buy a new fridge or fix this one and I decided to fix this since they had the part. He had the control changed within a short period of time. As I was signing the paperwork I just mentioned that I'd fixed my phone today and next on the list was the toilet but that I'd have to look at it for a bit since the problem wasn't the usual. He said "let me just take a look at it". In about 5 microseconds he fixed it - there was a loose seal. Wouldn't accept anything for it. Really - how many companies are like this? Not too many. I've always received good advice from Alex and George when they have come to repair other things before (washer and dryer) and I'll keep using them.
