The job went very well. Mike Nichols was the carpenter who did the job. He was very professional and efficient in his work and the quality of the work was excellent. He was prompt and cleaned up afterwards. I will definitely ask for him if I need a carpenter again.
Description of Work: Installed flashing on exterior wall next to roofing where water had ruined the original wall board. Replaced some cedar trim boards in the same area. Caulked and tar sealed the flashing and painted flashing and trim. Also replaced several stucco pattern wall boards on chimney with Hardie panels. Replaced associated trim and primed and painted the boards and trim.

Ulysses, the plumber, called to let me know he was coming and arrived on time. Once he gave me the estimate, he went right to work. After taking the pipe off and cleaning it out, he put it all back together and checked it. Still wasn't working. He found out that the clog was way down in the pipe and would have to be "snaked". He had to go out and buy a longer snake than the one he had with him because it was so far down. When he came back he worked at it until he got it. Ulysses cleaned everything up, leaving no mess at all.
Description of Work: Cleaned out a badly clogged pipe in the kitchen.

I was off work on 1-19-09 due to Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and called Handyman Connection in the morning as I would be home. I have used them numerous times in the past and have always been satisfied. There were several nagging minor household repairs that needed to be done. Charlie Rogers was the craftsman sent to my home. He was very pleasant, efficient and did my repairs thoroughly and quickly. I definitely will use this service again in the future. My only complaint is that they did not call me back as promised, so I had to contact them again, but they sent Charlie Rogers shortly after. I was told that $85 was the minimum service charge now and didn't mind because a relative tried to help with the towel bar and I tried myself and just couldn't tighten it. There was some bolting and drilling involved.
Description of Work: Loose towel bar in bathroom tighten, light bulb broken in socket under microwave replaced and loose wiring tacked down along baseboard in family room.

It went fine. There was not much of a challenge, and the guy who fixed the ceiling showed up in about an hour from when we called that same day and had it done in about three hours. He left around 5-6 PM that night, and he was very professional. He was a former construction supervisor and very skilled in homebuilding.
Description of Work: The ceiling in the garage had separated. They had to re-establish it and tie it in.

Came first time, figured out extent of leak and what would need to repair it. Came 2nd time to pressure wash porch ceiling. Came 3rd time fixed leak, caulked entire shower, removed wet drywall(approx size 1' x 2') replaced drywall and set up for paint after 24 hr dry time. Came 4th time to paint drywall in master bath and paint porch ceiling. Painted shower surround drywall with Thompson's water seal to prevent future problems. Arrived each time when he said he would, called first day to say would be about 30 min late due to traffic on I 10(approx 8.30am) came on time next 3 times. Did very excellent work. Unable to see where drywall replaced.

My experience with them was good. We were very happy with the quality of the workmanship. We had different people come throughout the project. They said they needed an electrician in order to make it up to code. There was a misunderstanding with the electrical part. They kept the price the same and everything turned out OK but there was confusion.

It was a perfect experience except they are pricier than I thought. Their minimum charge as of 9/1/08 is $83 per workman they send out. For instance, I needed my light fixtures swapped and installed, and cabinet hardware installed on my kitchen cabinets. They sent an electrician and a handyman. I expected just one person, but it was explained to me that they only want people qualified in a particular type of work, electrician, painter, etc. to do the work. The price for the lights alone was $220.00. The handyman charge was $165.00. The electrician they sent me was John Castilleja. He did a really great job, and I recommend asking for him. I had the fixtures and cabinet hardware when they came. They came prepared with all the tools they needed. John actually had to use some of the hardware he had in his vehicle to install the fixture in the garage. He just gave me a $2.00 invoice for the toggle bolts he had to use. I like having the one year guarantee on the work.
Description of Work: Swapped out two each ceiling 4-lamp fluorescent fixtures in my kitchen for two pendant track light lighting systems. Installed one of the 4-lamp fluorescent fixtures in my garage ceiling. The electrician they sent me was John Castilleja. He did a really great job.

For instance, I needed my light fixtures swapped and installed, and cabinet hardware installed on my kitchen cabinets. They sent an electrician and a handyman. When I started getting estimates from handymen, I expected just one person, but it was explained to me that Handyman Connection only wants people qualified in a particular type of work, electrician, painter, etc. to do the work. The price for installing the kitchen cabinet hardware and fixing the outdoor cabinets alone was $165.00. The electrician charge was $220.00. The handyman they sent me was Bill Slough. He did a really great job, and I recommend asking for him. It turned out that each piece of cabinet hardware had different measurements for drilling holes. Bill had to measure each piece to install correctly. He was very patient and did an excellent job. I guess the devil IS in the details because at the L shaped counter one piece of hardware had to be shortened to allow a drawer to open. Bill took the piece to his truck and sawed off the fixture to fit. In addition to the work contracted for, he also spackled the holes left in the kitchen ceiling by the electrician, and left me the jar of spackle to use in case it needed more. I had the cabinet hardware and wood backing for the cabinet when Bill came. He came prepared with all the tools he needed. Bill actually vacuumed the dust from inside each cabinet and drawer. He left the outdoor cabinet in better shape than I thought it could be. It now stays closed without the wooden stick I was using. I like that Handyman Connection does background checks on its employees, and having the one year guarantee on the work. Also, I tried getting estimates from other Handymen, but they were all busy; maybe this was just too small of a job for them. Handyman Connection was available when I needed them.
Description of Work: Install 27 pieces of kitchen cabinet hardware with two holes each. Add a wood back and fixed the doors of a 10 gallon outdoor aquarium stand that was being used as a cabinet.

They did not respond to my original message and I had to call them back a few weeks after I left the message. When they finally sent someone over to give me an estimate, it was ridiculously high! I ended up hiring a small electrical firm who charged me half of HC's estimate and it included all parts. HC makes you go and buy the parts on top of charging an arm and a leg for the labor. I recommend always get at least 2 quotes. HC is a middle man that takes a huge chunk of the money!
Description of Work: I did not choose them to do the work.

We had some rotted wood on the trim of our house. We hired them to repair any bad wood and to paint the trim. We were not happy with the work that was provided, so we contacted the company and they sent out a different worker to fix the work. The first worker was very sloppy with his painting and even missed a spot.

Terrible. A quote and impression of the skills the handyman was to provide was offered and accepted. A time for the job to be completed was offered and agreed upon, with a written statement of the previous. The handyman worked alone and completed the floor tile and the shower demo. Only a portion of the backer board was installed. After the five days the job was quoted to complete arrived the majority of the trim, the vanity and shower were not complete. The crown molding was fair, but the floor and door trim was crooked, marred and nails put into sheet rock holding nothing in place. In speaking to the owner and having him inspect the work, I feel the overall impression was uninterested, except as to how much of the job was paid for. I have another carpenter replacing over half of the floor trim due to poor installation and both door frames. Nails were shot into a pocket door frame and would have destroyed the finish of the door if the new carpenter hadn't noticed. The company misrepresents the handyman abilities and felt no responsibility to provide any support once I started to question his capabilities and how the job was going to be completed on schedule. The handyman was not allowed to return after putting in a partial day of work and leaving with my garage and outside door left open and unlocked without telling me he was done for the day. Expensive materials and my safety were put at risk by this.

JOB: $3000-2740/Craftsman:Mark Bath-Demo shower tile walls & ceiling/install hardi-backer/remove toilet/demo floor, baseboards & door trim/remove pocket & closet doors, install new ones/install tile on floor & shower/install baseboards, trim & crown molding Hallway/Bedroom & Closet-Demo baseboards & trim/install floor tile/install closet door/install baseboards, trim & crown molding Company makes interim calls ensuring satisfactorily job progress. Customer Service Rep(CSR) called May 14@9:08am Member (M) stated, "Everything's on track with Mark; he's been laying floor tile. May 15@4:42pm 'M' replied, "Everything's going fine." May 19@9:39am 'M' called, informed CSR she didn't want Mark returning; had hired someone else to finish job; would call upon job's completion wanting HMC plumber to re-set toilet. 'M' also asked price for work done. May 20, 'M' calls again wanting price. Owner Powell (P) arranged 4pm meeting. 'P' listened to 'M' and viewed site. Note: job was incomplete & Handyman Connection (HMC) had not abandoned it- 'M' asked us to stop. Area was tidy; nothing damaged. 'M' stated bedroom tile and crown molding was good. 'P' agreed w/ 'M' trim work was not up to HMC standards. 'P' told 'M' a Master Carpenter would correct and complete the job. 'M' didn't want HMC finishing the job. 'M' was asked by 'P' if she was sure she didn't want H assigning another craftsman to complete the job. 'M' replied, NO. 'P' asked what job percentage 'M' felt was satisfactory; 'M' stated about 25%%%%. 'P' replied that 60%%%% appeared acceptable. After additional discussion and negotiation, 'P' and 'M' compromised on a $1146 pymt. Original contracted price was $3000-2740; 60%%%% job completion would equate to $1800-1644 pymt. 'M' prevented original craftsman from completing job. She didn't allow for remedy or completion by a HMC Master Carpenter. Her decision was to contract another craftsman. HMC didn't abandon the job. HMC never initiated or demanded payment. 'M' called HMC office on two occasions asking price of work completed. 'M' agreed to a $1146 pymt for approx $1800 of work. Texas State Law cites if customer denies contractor access to work-site for job completion, the contractor no longer has responsibility for the project. Based on HMC facts, this matter appeared settled May 20, when 'M' compromised a $1146 payment. Related Issues: -Lack of statement regarding job completion. Contract specifically stated Time is not of the essence for the service to be performed pursuant to this contract. -M cited quality issues. These were to be addressed before job's closure. -'M'was customer, but project was under 'M's fiance's direction. -If Craftsman Mark left on Sat. May 17, without saying he was leaving for the day, such is contrary to HMC policy. 'P' apologized to 'M' at May 20 meeting. According to Mark, he left the side door closed but unlocked; it had been fiance's role to open and close the garage door. (Note: due to response limitations this is an abbreviated response to what transpired)

The work supervisor and one assistant installed my deck in three days, though they weren't consecutive because it rained one day, and the home supply store was a day late in delivering the lumber because their truck broke down. But these guys knew what they were doing and, once they got the materials, everything went together quickly. They cleaned up each night and at the end of the job, and they hauled off the wood from the old deck. I also had them treat/ stain the wood once the job was done. Their price was about what I expected to pay. Unlike a regular deck company, you buy the materials separately, but the job supervisor picked out the wood, nails, etc. and I paid over the phone by credit card. Then, when the job was done, I paid the labor costs. I would recommend these folks to others.
Description of Work: Handyman Connection installed an 18-by-20-foot treated pine deck with two L-shaped benches and a step on one side. This replaced an existed deck that had rotted wood.
I had originally asked them to replace 8 tiles on my floor but after replacing one, they broke two others next to the original one and told me that since the tiles were set so closely they did not want to attempt the others. I had also asked them to sand and re-stain the front door as our dog had scratched the bottom of the door when she had gotten out on one occasion. They did a light surface sanding and told me the scratches were too deep and suggested I just replace the door. They did not re-stain the door. Ours is a custom door and I did not want to go to the expense of replacing it and have since done the sanding and re-staining myself. The painted frame piece needed another coat of paint after they left so I finished that job as well. They ultimately reduced the original estimate for all the work by $50 but I felt this work was overpriced.
Description of Work: They replaced 3 stone tiles on my kitchen floor, replaced a split piece of wood on the frame of the front door, painted the replaced wood and replaced weather stripping on the bottom of the front door.

The process went very well. Roberto arrived with the proper tools and ready to work. We were impressed by his professionalism and attention to detail. Prior to starting the process, he presented his plan to us. To ensure less mess, Roberto prepared the area by using drop cloth/plastic; then, started the taping/ floating/ texturing and painting of the cracks expertly. When the job was completed, he ensured the area was as clean as it was before he started. Even though we felt the fee was a little high, we had a good feeling about Roberto and the job he'd do for us. He proved us right; he did an excellent job and we'd use him again.
Description of Work: Had several cracks in a 14 ft tall ceiling that needed repair.
