Handyman Connection - San Antonio

I had seen and ad and called them. They sent a gentleman out and he was not a gentleman, basically he overcharged and I told him I wasn't going to pay that. He said then just give me half of it in cash which was very unprofessional and he said I didn't do a favor, I did do something good for you. He made a very uncomfortable treatment like I did something nice for you so don't do something mean to me and call my boss about this or something. That was a very uncomfortable experience and I have not used Handyman Connection since then because I did call the supervisor and they said and they said that's not like our guy and that kind of thing. As much as possible try and find out who it is that you are inviting to your home as far as this Handyman Connection, they didn't give me a whole lot of information of who this person was, what made me feel very good to choose this person and his professionalism. The guy wanted $50 to get to leave because I told him it was too expensive. It was not what we agreed upon. They were there when they said they would. I would not use them again in the future.

I contacted Handyman connection to set up an appointment to have an estimate accomplished for the exterior painting of my home. No one answered the phone after numerous attempts. I finally left a message with all my contact information. After a week, I still have not heard from them. My impression is they are either too busy for my business or they don't need the work project.

I've used them a few times and I've been pretty satisfied with them. They subcontract out to different contractors. They are punctual and polite. They call before they come and they come when they say they will. Their prices may be a little higher but if you need something done quick, they will get it done. I will use them again.

I was pleased with the pricing, though I don't have a lot to compare to. They did adequate work. They were pretty responsive and convenient to use. They were able to come within a reasonable time. They were also professional, and they had good customer service.

They came out to give a quote on 10/19/10 and were late, but did call to let us know they were running late. They inspected the deck and what needed to be done, and quoted their price and said that because we found them through Angie's list they gave us a $150. discount. The price was high, but the handyman told my husband it probably wouldn't be that much. We paid a deposit and they returned on the 27th around 10:00. After removing 3 of the boards from the deck they knocked on the back door and said that the price would be more than they quoted because they were going to have to do more than they originally thought. At that point I felt I didn't have much recourse since they had taken my deck apart and I couldn't walk outside because the boards they removed ran in front of the back door. I asked how much more, and he said $100. so I said go ahead. They left for lunch around 11:30, and needed to go back to the hardware store to get the rest of what they needed. Mind you this company charges you extra for all supplies, and a dump run of $50.00. They returned around 2:00. They put the boards on and realized they didn't have enough screws to screw the boards down. When I went outside to see how it was going, he said it's 3:30 and the traffic is too bad now to get more screws, so your husband will have to finish this by Sunday or the boards will curl since they are wet from the treatment put on at the hardware store. My husband said he would complete the job to me, but told me we would never use their services again. Then when I went outside to pay, the contractor said that he felt bad about pushing the job off on my husband I'm sure he sensed my husband was less than happy with his approach. So he said he'd return either Thursday or Friday to complete the work. So I signed off on the job, because I felt he was going to return. When the office called Thursday to get my CC information, the gal told me that the handyman would be coming to complete the job either Thursday or Friday, confirming what he'd promised to me. When no one showed up Thursday or Friday, I called Saturday morning, to find out when someone was coming and the gal that answered the phone said that she'd have someone call me right back. No one returned my call so my husband completed the job on Sunday, and it took him about one and one half hours since he doesn't have the power tools the contractor did. On Monday around 9:00 the contractor called me and said sorry I didn't get out there I was busy, but that he'd come sometime that day. I told him that my husband had completed the job on Sunday because he told us it needed to be done by that day or the boards would curl. So he just said great, and we hung up. I called their office and told the person that answered the phone I wasn't happy with how the job went, and told her the whole story about getting upcharged $100 and the contractor not finishing the job as promised. She said she'd have the owner call me. The owner called me back, and said he hadn't talked to the gal I left my complaint with because she was on the phone. So I explained the whole story to him, and asked that we be given some of our money back. Based on the fact that we'd been upcharged and they didn't finish the job. He was questioning why my husband did the job on Sunday, and I explained the handyman indicated it had to be done by that date. I also told him I followed up with his office on Saturday and the gal that answered the phone said someone would call me right back. His response to that was they are not open on the weekends, and she's an answering service and had no right to promise me this? After much discussion he agreed to send me a check for $200. Which I felt was fair since we'd been upcharged $100 and my husband had spent time finishing their job. I sent him an email outlining what we'd agreed to, and he sent me a note later saying after he spoke to the handyman and his corporate office that he felt like I had him at some sort of advantage because his handyman told him the job would of only taken him five minutes to complete, and that my husband had agreed to do it outside of the contracted amount and that he was sending me a $200 gift card for future services instead of the check he'd promised me. He didn't even have the decency to call me on the phone. The interesting thing to me was I called them to try to let them make this right before leaving negative feedback, but he was unwilling to make the situation right. Plus if the job was only going to take 5 minutes to complete than why didn't he come and do it. Clearly if my husband had the time to do this job, we wouldn't have needed to use their services. I got their gift card in the mail today, and he had copied their corporate offices, Angie's List, Better Business Bureau and his employee that came out to do our job. I guess now I will have to send our story to all of these places to? We have no intention of using their services again. I would not recommend this company to anyone, but if you do decide to use their services I would recommend that you make them write on the order, that the price is guaranteed not to exceed the amount quoted, and DO NOT sign off on the work and pay until all work is completed to your satisfaction.

The carpenter arrived late and proceeded to remove the old sliding doors. He didn't seem to understand how they worked, so I helped him ... especially since he went at it like a storm trooper. I didn't want my door jams ruined so I had to ask him to slow down and be patient. Once the doors were removed he went to Home Depot to purchase replacement doors. He claimed he wasn't a painter so he would have another guy paint the doors. When he delivered the new doors for installation, there was paint globbed in the corners of each pane where the paint had run. He installed the doors, which once again, he needed help with to get it right and so the doors were even. I think I knew more about how to do that than he did! Once he was gone, I complained to the company about the globbed pain. They sent another guy out to sand the doors ... that didn't go well either. What should have been a fairly simple job was turning into a disaster. I finally had to sand the doors myself and remove the globbed paint from the panes .... what a mess! They never primed the bare wood when the doors were originally painted which is why the paint ran and the coat was uneven and globbed. I finally removed as much of the old paint as possible and then did the job right by priming and then painting (carefully). Also, when they attempted to sand the old paint off, they also scratched a number of the glass panes. It took me 3 days to correct their foul-ups. Finally, the doors look pretty good except for the scratched panes that will probably drive me crazy forever .... or at least until, I eventually decide to get new doors and have the job done right from the beginning. The company didn't seem to really care, which is probably par for the course. Good luck if you use them!

He looked at my ceiling, where I had a leak and said I would need to have the plaster repaired before he begin the work. I am sure once he begins, he will do a great job.

the repairman was on time and when he needed part went and got them quickly. also, provided me a receipt of the parts purchase price and gave me the old parts. very quick and efficient.

Both handymen were scheduled to come on the same day and time, but the night before I got a call from the carpenter explaining their had been a miscommunication and he wouldn't be able to come until the following week. The electrician came as scheduled, and the work he did was fine, though he did leave some debris on our floor. Long story short with the carpenter ... he ended up coming four separate times to complete the work (and these weren't big jobs), and two of those appointments he had to reschedule. The quality of his work was just ok, and though he was very friendly, he wasn't efficient. It was frustrating having to keep rearranging our schedules to be able to be home for his multiple appointments. I wouldn't recommend Handyman Connection - I'm going to try a different company next time.

They came out and gave me an estimate. The person from Handyman Connections was really nice and punctual. He left behind some extra paint. He did a good job. He made the work very easy. I didn?t have to do anything at all; he did it all. He charged me around $150 for the job. I?d definitely call him again in the future, for any small job that needs to be done.

I shouldn't have hired anyone to paint in the heat. I was not satisfied with the price and my son tells me I overpaid, but because of the heat, it wasn't so bad.

I called and got same day service. The technician was wonderful, and completed the job quickly.

I contacted Handyman Connection after a break-in left me with a broken front door and shattered door frame. They were very quick to respond, very sympathetic, and I really appreciated their own security measures: the dispatcher assured me that their craftsmen are bonded and have gone through criminal records checks, gave me the name and description of the craftsman they were sending over. Shannon introduced himself by name, and did a very careful job with the door, making sure to maintain the security alarm's connection to the door (a previous independent handyman had destroyed that connection when installing an earlier door, thus costing me a reinstallation of the alarm sensor). In their eagerness to deal with the problem, they sent him over late in the day the first time, so we rescheduled for the next day. Shannon did a good clean job and cleaned up after the repair work was finished. I will be using Handyman Connection again.

They had to come back and do some adjustments on the door and replace some sealing around the door. Other than that, they did a good job, were on time, and he seemed like he knew what he was doing.

The gentlemen who came in to check the roof told me the patio needed a new roofer. The time before that they put in a new doorway in the sun-room. I have a door going to the patio, but I wanted a door in the opposite side because that?s where the water fossit is. They put in a new doorway and a door. They had also put a cement strip in front of the patio. One thing I like about them is, they brought a few cement bags and they charged me only for the bags that were used. They did a good job and I was very happy with them. They cleaned up well after the work was completed.
