Description of Work: I liked the man who came out for the estimate. He seemed very knowledgeable. I would have used this company but got frustrated when I couldn't get an estimate for the work. I called and emailed and even got a promise to email the estimate but, alas, I never received one.

Description of Work: Mike from Black Pearl came to my house to give me a quote. Explained me how the staining of my recently built deck was going to take place. He was courteous and attentive. Later, he came back to drop from samples of stained cedar so that we could chose the stain color. The service was done in a very professional manner and Mike came to inspect it in the end. I could not be happier with the service. I will use his company again, for sure! |

Description of Work: They did a chemical clean on my fence on Thursday May 21. Mr. Doherty came back on Tuesday, May 26 to stain the fence. On the day he cleaned my fence he also cleaned the algae off my cement patio-he volunteered the service, I didn't ask him to do it. Also, two wood planks of fence we were lose & he attached them, no charge. He was very responsive & professional in my request for a estimate & kept me very informed as to start state due to all the weather delays from rain. My HOA also has hired him to stain the perimeter fence for us & several of my neighbors hired him. He gave the homeowners the same discounted rate that he gave to the HOA.

Description of Work: Very slow to contact us. We rescheduled initial visit and they never followed up to reschedule. I called and spoke with the owner. He said they were busy with another big project and it would be awhile before he could get back with us. He was a bit short and unfriendly. He said that if I wanted my money back, I would need to contact Angie's list. So, I wouldn't recommend the company based on my experience and I'm suspect of signing up for any more Angie's list deals online.

I was actually going to stop by the day I initially spoke to (removed member name). She informed me that would not be possible due to unforeseen circumstances on their part. I stopped by any way to do a visual inspection of the gate latch she said was not working properly. I waited to hear back from them. About a month elapsed and I was contacted by (removed member name). I informed him that I didn't see anything wrong with the gate, latch or operation of either. I felt it didn't need to be serviced at this time. I suggested he ask for a refund.

Description of Work: Black Pearl repaired parts of my fence that had rotten wood and also adjusted the gate. They needed to install some new pickets. The service was very good. They are busy so it might take a bit long for them to get to you, but it is worth it.

Description of Work: I hired Black Pearl via a Big Deal for wooden fence repair due to several loose planks, some being candidates for replacement. The guy came out and looked at the fence and told me he wouldn't be able to replace the old planks because they were deck planks, but he said he would use wood screws to tighten/reattach loose planks. He also repaired a small wooden gate. Overall I'd say his repairs turned out to be very basic and were things I probably could have done myself, with the exception of the gate repair.

Description of Work: He was very nice to come and inspect the house before doing the cleaning. He was really honest and confirm that the house was not in need of cleaning at this time. He had the idea that I should have the job done according to his expectations rather than following my expectations. I thought because I was paying the bill I should have it done the way I wanted it done. I basically just found him an arrogant guy to deal with. He was very unresponsive and very difficult to work with.

Response from Black Pearl Custom Painting, LLC
Member was not happy with the service he received due to several issues. 1) he asked us to help him move a refrigerator into the rental property that would not fit through the front door without removing the doors from the refrigerator. He did not ask this of us until we were almost completed with the painting project. I told him we were not movers and we had not contracted with him for such service at the time he accepted our bid. It was not in writing. I also informed him that if we took on such a task at no cost, we could be liable fr any damages that may occur to the home or refrigerator. He was very upset and stated that he didn't want to incur any additional cost to fix up the home. I felt I had explained thoroughly to him why we would not do it. It was beyond the scope of our work. He felt we should do anything he wanted us to do in his home while we were there. I explained that were hired as a contractor, not hourly labor services under his direct supervision. Another issue was the fact that I had suggested to him that he needed new weather stripping at the door that goes from the house to the garage. It was old and torn and had paint on it from a previous paint job which we had not performed. At the time of bid, he told me that he was not concerned of its condition. We proceeded with the job as planned. We removed and replaced the weather stripping as we normally do when painting door jambs. At the final walkthrough, Mr. Meshenko stated that we had damaged and gotten paint on the weather stripping. He argued that it was us that had done the damage even though the paint on the weather stripping did not even match any paint we had applied in the anywhere in the home. HE continued on this path of being unreasonable. In order to get paid for the project, I agreed to replace the weather stripping. He paid me in full for the work. Since our policy is, no money from you.... until all the work is through!, Mr Meshenko could have withheld funds for various reasons that he conjured up at last minute that were not bid on. It is unfortunate that he be allowed to slander us here since we make every attempt to please all customers. Had Mr. Mishenko not been so demanding of things we never agreed upon at all in the scope of work, and not expected us to do work we are not equipped to do, we might have been a little more eaccomodating to assist him in those areas. In 12 years, I have never been yelled at and cursed at by a customer, just because I tried to explain to them we do not provide that service. Would he expect a roofer to fix his plumbing leak, just because they are at his home working on the roof and he doesn't feel like spending money on a plumber? We would hope not! I would be happy to meet with Member in a court of law so that his demeanor could be fully present before the court. If he wishes so, I urge him to continue his slander of me and my company.

I can't say enough good things about Mike and his team. We were constantly being let down by our contractors and Mike kept coming back to see if he was good to start staining. He was always extremely polite and helpful. He took leftover pieces of our actual decking material and stained them with different colors and came back to drop them off so that we would know exactly what our wood would look like! Mike couldn't start our job until certain elements from other contractors were finished, we had numerous false starts but he just took it in stride! His team did a fantastic job! After we had our outdoor kitchen installed, the brick masons made a huge mess of the deck and some of it needed sanding again and re-staining, I called Mike and explained what happened and that we had a deadline a few days away for a big outdoor party we were having, he came out again and took a look, gave me a price and said not to worry that he would get it re-done in time for our party! Of course, we had rain so he couldn't come when he needed to but never fear when Black Pearl is your company of choice, he sent his guys out as soon as the deck was dry and he had them sand, stain and use cloths to take off the excess stain so that it would dry in time for the party! This guy is amazing! I will never even bother to get quotes from anyone else when I need anything stained! We wrote him a check for the job and it was from an out of state bank, there were some issues with our bank transferring money so his check was returned and he was so nice about it and very understanding! Overall, a fabulous experience with Mike and Black Pearl, highly recommend them!

We decided to get our fence stained, and I had Mike look at our fence. He gave me an estimate on Monday which was reasonable given the size of our fence, they cleaned the fence on Tuesday, and sprayed the stain on Wednesday. He explained that they are busy with painting jobs, but can usually squeeze these fence jobs in - which they did very quickly as you can see. The fence looks great and I have no complaints....I actually referred Mike to a friend already.

It went great from start to finish. Contracted three companies. One didn't show, one was way over priced and didn't seem to care whether or not he got the job - and then there was Mike. He showed up on time, delivered a prompt estimate and started the job on time. Despite the fact the weather that wasn't cooperating in the beginning of the week, Mike kept me informed throughout the day, every day of the progress they were making - when the weather cleared, he and his crew worked extra hours and extra hard to get the job done on time. This was critical as a second job was to start in the yard the following day. An added complication was the boarding of my dogs and limited availability at the kennel would have made an extended kennel stay next to impossible. The deck and fence look great. Will definately call Mike again.
