They were on time. He did the entire fence and I have quite a bit of it. They did an excellent job, you couldn't ask for anything better. It was a thousand percent increase in how it looked.

Mike came out for a consultation and patiently talked over all the options with us. He helped us decide what would be the best for both our budget and our fence. He came back the next week and repaired our badly broken fence. He also did a cleaning process that left it looking great. It looked so nice that our neighbors asked if we had gotten a new fence. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend Mike and Black Pearl Custom Painting and Staining to anyone.

They worked quickly and efficiently.

Mike responded promptly to bid on my work. He gave me a bid on the spot. He went over all the work and set a work date. We had some weather delays but Mike talked to me every day to stay on top of the job. His workers were very professional and cleaned up each day. They were proud of their work and so was I. My deck looks great! I would hire Black Pearl again for any staining or painting I needed done.

The fence had an older and a newer section. When he finished, both sections looked similar.

Mike is a true professional, in his repsonsiveness, his character and his trustworthiness. He stained my deck once, came back to look it over and decided he needed to apply a second stain without charge.

Called several times to get a bid and they never returned my calls. I ended up with Smith Painting and they did a great job.

I had a new deck installed in March of this year (2012) , the installer did the staining and within 3 months the stain was worn off and raw wood was showing. He used poor stain and did a poor quality job. Mike Doherty with Black Pearl Custom Painting and Staining was referred to me and I called him on Tueday (8-8-21), he came out that same day, gave me an estimate and began work the next day. They cleaned the deck on Wednesday, Mike came by on Thursday with a sample of how the paint would look and then the crew came out Friday, sanded and stained. Moved all my furniture, plants, grill, etc for me. Mike called each day and kept me updated as to who was coming when they were on their way, etc. His professionalism and courteous respond was always above and beyond normal. The job was exceptionally well done. My deck looks like brand new. I can't wait until Monday when they come back and put all the furniture, grill and such back so that I can begin using it again. (Since he did tell me I could use it by late Sunday, I may just beat him to the bunch putting at least my chairs and plants back myself). I would highly recommend him to anyone. I know that I will be calling him again for any painting jobs I need done.

In both cases, the work was done professionally and on schedule. The fence repair is still holding up, probably nine months later. It took him about 15 minutes to do the repair. We were a little surprised that the bleaching cleaned the fence as well as it did. The person performing the work (I'm not sure if it was the owner but the same person did the work each time) advised us not to have the fence pressure-washed, probably because parts are somewhat rickety. We also had a concern that the bleach might damage the grass but he assured us it wouldn't and he was right. He spent 30-45 minutes for the wash. We were happy with the work he did, in both cases, and, with the Angie's List discount, the price was right. We didn't do any competitive bidding for this so I don't know what anyone else would have charged.

This was the easiest part of the deck project. I contacted Mike tuesday evening. He had other work scheduled in my area wednesday, so he came over and looked at the project wednesday morning while I was work and left 3 recommended color samples to choose from. I got me a bid immediately and accepted it. Pretreatment was Thursday, and his guys came Saturday morning to complete the deck and were done by lunch. On the quick scheduling he explained that he had an opening, and was upfront that if weather delays occurred, that the project would need to rescheduled ~2 weeks later based on his other scheduled projects. Mike was nice and professional. He came over to view the completed project and went over some the do's and don'ts.

Mike the owner promptly answered my call and came out that aft to look at the project. He gave me a reasonable estimate. He was super nice and courteous. Very responsive. They actually got the project done four days early, which was fine w/me. They did the work within a week of giving the estimate. The workers were all very nice and professional. A VERY GOOD experience. I am very happy with the finished product (just finishing up right now).

The provider was unresponsive and unable to fulfill obligations, so he advised that I request a refund.

Not well, just wish he would be able to do the work as promised and paid.

Mike Doherty, the owner, was very professional. He went over each area of our work request, and gave us several options concerning brands and colors of stain. He was prompt and arrived at the house to provide a written estimate at the exact time he said he would. On the day the work was to be performed, the weather caused a slight delay, but he called and emailed to inform us of the reason for the delay and when to expect him. He then arrived at the stated time and work began promptly. He was very polite and friendly, without being overly so. We would definitely recommend him for this type of work, and will use him when it is time to paint the house.

We decided not to have services performed by this company because during our initial interactions, Mike Doherty proved to be extremely unprofessional. He came to our home on March 16th to take a look at our fence, take measurements, etc. so he could provide us a quote on quite a bit of work. He did spend about an hour with us, very patiently answered all our questions and even explored ways to help us save money. He promised a quote via email the next day and a phone call the next week to let us know what day he'd stop and fix our gate. We did not receive the quote via email and my husband placed 2 follow-up calls leaving voicemail messages the week of March 19-23rd. We never received a call back or even a follow-up call from Mike. You'd think that if you had sent a quote you'd follow-up on your own to see if the customer had questions or was ready to start work....nope, no calls. I called Mike the next week which was now a week and a half after the first interaction. When I told Mike who I was and that we were waiting to hear from him, that we hadn't received the quote or any call backs. He immediately launched into a long explanation of how he's so busy even talking on the phone while driving etc. No attempt on Mike's part to apologize or show urgency to get the negotiations back on track. When I shared this concern with him he became more biligerent and to make a long story short this quote sums up the remainder of the interaction "I have a lot of business and my family and I are doing well enough I don't need to rectify anything." My impression was he doesn't need to provide excellent customer service, there's plenty of income without doing so therefore, we're taking our business to someone that truly wants our business.

I spoke to him and 10:00 made an appointment at 4:00, and he called me at 3 to tell me that he could not make it, which made it difficult since I had already left work to meet him at 4:00. I tried to reschedule but the times I chose he could not work with.

This was an absolutly wonderful company to work with! The quality of the work, the professional courtesy of the owner (Mike Doherty) and the workers, their responsiveness and completed job follow-up was most impressive. Our deck and fence are beautiful. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them to others!!!!

After a little bit of telephone tag, I scheduled a time for them to come and give me an estimate. He seems to prefer text messages, even though the arrival, much less an ETA is guaranteed, so we ended up using that at the end. An hour after the scheduled time, I text message asking for an update. 2 hours after, I call. He answers saying that he had sent a text message earlier that day requesting to reschedule as he was working on a project that was running long and needed to be finished in the next few hours. Not a problem; I want them to take the time to finish a project before going to the next! However, I never received the text message, and would have expected a follow of some kind as I hadn't responded. I didn't have my calendar in front of me, so over the weekend, I call and schedule a new time. Again, no show with no advance warning. This time I was unable to get in contact with them via either text or phone call. For their sake, I hope they just have such good business right now that they didn't care about my small deck.

I ended up going with this comapany because they were very good about emailing me and were very paitent while I got more bids. There bids were one of the highest by almost twice but they came down on their price for a competitive bid and although still not the cheapest I went with them because they were good at communicating, punctual, and I got a good first impression from them. Overall a good experience. Make sure you get more than one bid and ask if they are willing to give you another offer.
