This experience with Aramendia was WONDERFUL! I have had okay service from other plumbers, but I didn't quite trust a previous one, and I had to wait too long (several times) for the most recent plumbing service I had from another plumber. So I did not want to call the plumbers I had used before. With Aramendia, however, I was especially pleased with their punctuality and professionalism. I *will* be calling them back any time I need another plumbing repair.
Description of Work: They came the evening I called, with no service charge for evening work. They showed up when they said they would! Water was soaking the floor of the water heater closet. Since my house was built in 1989, I was pretty sure the water heater was 20 years old, and sort of expected it would need to be replaced. But the serviceman showed me that water was coming from the pipes on top, and asked if I wanted to just replace those to see if that would solve the problem. At $225, which would count towards replacing the water heater, if there were still a problem within 24 hours, I decided to go with that 1st stage option. And I thought that had fixed it, but before 5pm the next day, I found the water heater was still leaking a little, so I called Aramendia back to go ahead with the replacement. Since the remaining water leak was small, I did not feel the water tank needed to be replaced immediately that evening, so I scheduled service for the next day, as long as they would still include the $225 credit, which they did. And they also took off the 10% from the Angie's list coupon.

Very efficient in setting up appointment and notifying us when they were on their way. Courteous, did exactly what we asked for. Had to ask them to come back to adjust the temperature of the new water heater, which they did promptly. We did not compare prices with other companies, so we're not sure how good the price was.

They had to send in an expert to find the leak. The price seemed a bit high to go through with the work. They were going to charge $130 an hour with an unkown amount of hours to complete the work. I did not contact them to complete the work.

During a lanscaping job in my front yard, I hit a main sprinkler system PVC pipe 2 inches below the ground level with a landscaping edging spike. This particular pipe is under continuous pressure from the main water feed. I thought I had damaged the water main. I shut the water off to the house and called Aramendia. They put me on the schedule for that day. Less than 3 hours later they were there to fix the problem. This response is excellent. The plumber quoted me a price of $295-$325 to fix the problem. I reluctantly agreed. After some diagnosis the plumber determined that the leak was not in the water main, but in the sprinkler system. He indicated the method of repair and cost were the same regardless. It took them less than a half hour to fix the problem. They had to wait longer (half hour) for the glue to dry. While I agree that Aramendia has knowledgeable professional employees and was a responsive, I felt overcharged for the repair. This plumbing problem was handled in the middle of the day during the normal work week...there was no emergency call out at night or on a week end. Nor was there any special equipment used. I called an Aramendia supervisor a couple of days later and made my complaint. He offered to look into my repair and call me back. He called back and offered me a $50 refund. I have used Aramendia Plumbing and Heating at least 4 other times in the last several years (based on Angie's list reports) and felt that they were professional and fair, but I?ll be more cautious in the future. It is now clear to me that the teams that come to your house have no ability to deviate from the corporate pricing schedule, so if you feel uncomfortable with the charges be sure to call and make your feelings known.

Wade and Jose were good folks to work with. They answered all my questions in a friendly manner. Price seemed a little high, and I considered training myself to do it in the future, but I'd have to buy the right equipment and practice a few times and mess things up myself, and how often would I use that skill? They got it done professionally and quickly. I'd consider calling them first for my next plumbing need.
Description of Work: The outside copper line coming into our house were punctured/breached during sidewalk installation in two different places. Holes to gain access to the copper line sections had already been dug and someone tried to repair it but both areas were leaking a few hours after that someone left. This occurred 10/29/09 night. We called Aramendia 7am the next morning and a plumber and his assistant arrived at 9:30am (right on time as dispatcher had told me). The plumber looked at the situation and quoted $325. He inserted an approx 1-ft length of copper line for the first breach and soldered in couplings to repair it. He repeated this on the second breach. Water was turned back on and we were good again. Price was $325. They drove off at 10:40 am. 90-day warranty period. So far so good.

I called another company, but, they were not good, so, I called Aramendia because they have done some plumbing work for us. They came out, found the exact problem and said they would be able to fix it. They also said it would work for the rest of the year, but, the only problem is that you'll have to turn the A/C off sometimes and it was not possible due to the weather. They were more concerned about us that we got the right service than getting more money. We could have spent three or four hundred dollars to get the problem fixed, but, because of their honesty and integrity I got the entire coil replaced which is like twenty two or twenty three hundred dollars. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Their price is also competitive. I would use no one else but them.

My only issue with Armendia was my dealing with the office personel. It was minor but frustrating. I called their office on Tuesday morning and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday morning. That Tuesday afternoon I received a call from Aramendia to confirm my appointment. The next morning Aramendia did not show up at their scheduled time so I called the office. They explained that they had called again that morning to confirm my appointment but did not reach me and assumed I no longer wanted a plumber. The problem was they called me at work (again) and I was waiting at home. I asked if they often called twice to confirm an appointment and they told me no, so what likely happened was whoever called the day before to confirm my appointment did not make a note of our conversation in my file. They dispatched someone immediately who arrived at my home in about an hours time. I wasn't planning on taking this much time off from work, so this threw me off a bit. Why did I give Aramendia a C for price. Based on Angie's definition a C translates to fair, which is how I would describe the price. It it wasn't for the 10% discount I would have said the price was too high (originally quoted at 395 when other plumbers wanted 300 for the job), but after the discount the price was okay. It was still a little on the high side when compared to other places, but I recognize it costs money to run a good operation and hire good people, so I'm okay paying a little more than the average. The C for punctionality was because of the issues with the office personel. The A's for quality, responsiveness and professionalism are all Victor. I was really impressed with him.
Description of Work: I had to have my home's water pressure regulator replaced. Victor did an excellent job of diagnosing the problem and performed all the work himself. If I have issues in the future I will likely call Aramendia again and request Victor. Was very pleased with his work.

Aramendia did quality work and interacted with me professionally. I have no complaint about any of that. The only problem - and it was a big one - was the price gouging. Now, I am not the kind of person who wants to get something for nothing. I believe plumbers should be paid well for quality work. Their job is often unpleasant, requires skill and training, and the ability to deal well with people. And I realize there is a lot of overhead in maintaining enough staff and trucks to provide fast service such as Aramendia does. Aramendia should be paid well for their services, and I was prepared to do that. However, even with the most generous of calculations, I was charged an amount vastly out of proportion to what the job actually entailed. I was essentially charged $565 per hour. If this job had been charged on an hourly basis at the $135/hr. rate of the leak detection (which is comparable to the $120/hr. I've been charged by other plumbers for general plumbing work), this job would have cost $405, plus materials (maybe an extra $200, to be generous). I was charged a fixed-rate price that was $1100 more than this - almost triple what a reasonable price would have been! The next day I called Aramendia and asked to speak to a manager because I felt I had been overcharged. After a couple of days of phone tag, I spoke to Albert Joseph. I explained my objections, and he defended their pricing policies. Mr. Joseph stated that customers prefer fixed-rate pricing, and that just because their plumbers make the job look easy, it isn't. He also stated that Aramendia will be around to honor their work and warranties, whereas other companies may not. He finally offered to refund half of the leak detection fee (half the $387 charge), as a goodwill gesture. I was not satisfied with this, but this was all he was willing to do. Mr. Joseph was not rude about this, but he disagreed with my view of the pricing. Here is a breakdown of the charges: Leak detection (2 hours and 5 minutes) = $387. Replace water line from meter to house, 50 feet (3 hours) = $1,695. Minus 10% discount from Angie's List coupon ($208.25). Minus adjustment from manager ($193.75). Total cost = $1680.50.
Description of Work: Based on their good reviews on Angie's List, I called Aramendia to find a water leak at my house. I could hear water running in the pipes, and the meter was spinning, but there were no visible signs of the leak. It was a bad leak - about 45 gallons of water were being lost per hour, according to the meter readings (read according to SAWS instructions). Aramendia sent a plumber and his assistant/helper - they arrived a little later than I expected, but not too bad. After 2 hours, they determined the leak was underground in the front yard, between the meter and my house. The leak detection charge was $135 per hour, as quoted to me on the phone, plus materials (to cap the water line where it entered the house, to confirm the leak was between the house and street). Total leak detection charge was $387.50 (this took 2 hours and 5 minutes). The plumber then provided me with a fixed-rate estimate to run a new water line from the meter to the house, which was his recommendation. The price quoted was excessively high - $1,695. I got the impression that this job was going to be huge - digging up the yard to lay new pipe, "tunneling under the sidewalk" (this was mentioned more than once), installing the new pipes and shut-off valves. In shock, I accepted the estimate, which I now regret. I was desperate, since the leak was so bad, and I had no idea how long it would take to get other quotes and have another company come out to do the work. So I agreed to have them do the work. Here is what it actually involved: digging a trench about 8 inches to 1 foot deep across my front yard and laying a new pipe (50 feet). The new pipe was made of flexible plastic called Wirsbo PEX - it resembles a garden hose, but is more rigid (it costs less than $1 per foot). They also had to "tunnel under the sidewalk" that was near the meter. This sounds like it would involve lots of big heavy equipment and take a long time. In fact, it was a relatively simple process, using a water hose with a pipe on the end. They essentially used water pressure to soften the soil and thread the pipe underneath the sidewalk. All of the digging, including the "tunneling," took about 1 hour, and was done with shovels by the plumber and his helper. They installed a shut-off valve at the meter and also where the new line entered the crawl space of the house. They also had to go into the crawl space under the house to connect the new line to the existing plumbing. The entire process, from start to finish, including clean-up, took 3 hours. $1700 for three hours of labor and some modest materials (no big-ticket items whatsoever - just flexible plastic pipe, two shut-off valves and a few small miscellaneous items to connect the new pipe to the old).

This was a very positive experience. I had never used this company before, and selected it based on the feedback on Angie's list. They showed me the leak they found, then updated me by showing me the incorrectly placed PRV. They explaned what the PRV did and why it needed to be moved, as well as the resulting need to install an expansion tank for the water heater. The work was done the same day, in a professional manner. They were even patient with me when it came time to pay and I was still on the phone with tech support for my computer! Plus there was a coupon for Angie's list members!
Description of Work: Found and repaired a leak where the sprinkler system connects to the control valve, relocated the PRV (pressure reduction valve), and made the change to the water heater (the installation of an expansion tank) required by code because of relocating the PRV.

Woke up to find wet carpet in the master beadroom floor. Water seemed to be coming out of the wall separating the master bathroom from the bed room. Aramendia sent a crew out right away. The plumber cut away a large section of drywall in the master bedroom to expose the water feed pipes coming up through the slab. The plumber spent over an hour detecting and isolating the leaking cold water pipe. It turns out the the loop of cold water pipe that connects the hall bathroom to the master bath had developed a leak in the slab itself. Unfortunately, another section of drywall near the hall bathroom had to be cut away as well in order to expose the water supply lines coming up through the slab. Aramendia tested all possible combinations of the water supplies to ensure it found the correct loop. The plumber then cut the leaking cold water feed and re-plumbed the connections in both loactions. In order to provide cold water to the master bathroom, a new cold water supply line was plumbed from the water supply line near the hot water heater in the garage, up through the attic and down through the wall in the master bathroom. Aramendia use certified water piping system that is flexible and insulated. The connections are permanent and are guaranteed not to leak. The water line product will not break even if frozen (according to the manufacturer). The whole job took about 6 hours. The crew was as neat as possible considering the circumstances. They asked permission at every step. The lead plumber always kept me abreast of his actions. Looking back, they did a great job. Considering the level of professionalism necessary for this job, it was probably worth the cost.
Description of Work: Located water leak in my home's foundation slab. Capped it. Replumbed remaining pipes as necessary. Rerouted cold water supply from near the water heater in the garage, up into the attic space, across the house and down into the master bathroom.

They replaced the toilet, gasket, and bracket. We also had them fix our garbage disposal under our kitchen sink which started leaking about a month ago. They even saw that a vent inside my water heater closet was disconnected and reconnected it for me. Service was outstanding although I wish the price was a little cheaper. However, since I have nothing to compare price to, I can't really say whether the service was too expensive or less expensive.
Description of Work: We discovered a wet spot on our ceiling wall. I looked up the list of plumbers on Angies List and saw that Aramendia had one previous service awards so I called them. The receptionist on the phone was very pleasant to talk to and said that she would call me back before the plumbers started coming over to the house. Two men arrived and figured out that the gasket on my upstairs toilet and completely eroded away.

By comparison to other plumbers they are terrific. There are other companies I don?t want to talk about. They are reasonable and prompt. They generally do a good job. It is easy to get an appointment with them. They are upfront with the price and usually there are no surprises with it. One of the techs said, "We're not the most expensive and we're not the cheapest." I think that's accurate. But these guys are definitely competent and most of them--I've used them for four years--do pretty good work.

Same as above. They cleared the drain immediately using their products. I had tried many commercial products such as drano but was not able to get the drain cleared. I did forget to ask them to give me the estimate before they cleared out the blockage. I was slightly surprised that it was $150, but I can't complain too much since I'm sure I've spent that much on commercial cleaners. They were very professional and I trusted them in my house. I would hire them again.

We decided to hold off until the unit stopped working again. I called again on July 15th and they came back out and I showed them the bill. They said they could do both units for $9,700 and they never looked at the air conditioner. I had someone else look at it and they said it was the fan blower. That cost me $60 and it works great. I called and emailed and have never heard back from them. Their prices were good had I decided to replace the units. The second time they came out they were very unprofessional. They were at least punctual and did come out.
Description of Work: We used Aramendia Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning to fix our upstairs air conditioner. The first time they came out was May 5th. We called Aramendia because we had read so many positive reports on Angie's List. We needed a plumber to replace our water heater that had flooded our garage. Aramendia responded quickly. We asked if they could install an energy efficient model, but they did not carry them. It would take 1-2 weeks to get and 2 weeks without hot water was not a workable solution for us. So we ended up getting a standard replacement model. Two young men came out to the house in the early afternoon. They determined that the old heater had a tank failure after 8 years. They removed the old heater and hauled it off. The replacement went fine. Next, we asked them to replace 3 old leaky lav faucets with new ones we had purchased. They could not guarantee the faucets since they did not provide them, but the work was guaranteed. Right away, they seemed to have difficulty with the faucet installation. They had to leave to get supplies that they didn't have on the truck, thus significantly increasing the work time. They ran out of the material they use to seal the joints, so they used bright blue sticky pipe dope. This stuff was on everything they touched: cabinets, floors, and carpet. We offered them work lights since they kept dropping their wrenches under the cabinet, but they refused. By 10 p.m. they left, saying they would be back in the morning to finish up. Over night, we heard the sound of water dripping under the master bath cabinet. We placed a dishpan underneath and it was full by morning. When they arrived mid-morning, they read the list of concerns that my husband left along with a request for a discount. They were very apologetic and agreed to give us a 10% discount to make everything okay. I asked if they would be cleaning up after themselves, but they said they didn't have a vacuum on their truck. I pointed out the blue marks, the extra putty, dirt around the faucets. They attempted to remove the blue stuff with a solvent, but it didn't work. They said I could remove the putty with my own tool, because they couldn't be responsible for any damage to the fixtures. So I pulled out the Goo Gone, my putty knife, and my vacuum and did the job myself! Needless to say, after two days of this and no water in our house, my husband was not thrilled with the job they did. He called the manager to register his concerns. They responded VERY quickly. The owner sent out his A-team to review the situation. They found that because the house addition blocked the water heater ventilation, they would need to add appropriate venting to bring it up to code. They did not charge us. They also saw and corrected some problems with the lav installation. At a later time, the foreman came out to make sure everything had been corrected and gave us a nice gift card to a steakhouse to make things right. He made it clear that this experience was not acceptable to them and they had "corrected" the problem with their staff.
