The workers were prompt at arriving on schedule, got the work done a lot faster than I expected they could do it. They were polite and constantly asked if what they were doing was to my satisfaction, and they left a clean work site when they were done. Even when they left the first night the work site was clean. All in all it was a very pleasant experience from the initial contact, to getting the estimate, to scheduling the work, and finally getting the work done. This company will be high on my to contact list when it comes time to have other work done.
Description of Work: They corrected the shoddy work done by another contractor and completed the work in a quick professional manner. They had to patch holes in walls, reset stones in the exterior wall, and complete a major ceiling repair that had been started but never finished. Other contractors had told me the old work would have to be removed before the jobs could be done. This contractor was able to take the job from where it was to completion with few issues obvious to the observer.

Tommy came out to my house to fix my front door after a break-in. The front door had been kicked off of the frame. He came out at about 7:30 in the evening and worked until about 1 in the morning to get us set up and able to close the door safely. He reframed the entire thing in our front yard and really seemed to know what he was doing. I was very appreciative that they could help us out in a bind and everyone I spoke with was very courteous. After such a traumatizing experience, it was great to know that someone was there to help us.

Brad arrived a few minutes before 8am as scheduled. He did a bang up job. It was done very professionally and in a short amount of time. Everything was explained to me as to the procedure he followed. Brad was a great guy and I couldn't ask for anything more from a company. The office staff, Jennifer, and the estimator, Brian were just as competent and easy to work with. Angie's List should have an A+ rating because that's what this company deserves. I will definitely call them in the future for any other projects I may need help with.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced rotted fascia board on front of house. Also added new flashing to divert water in order to prevent future damage..
Superb! Our technician, Tim, was outstanding. All the work took most of four days. He was on time every day and worked smart cleaning up the work sites as he went. He was very meticulous in the quality of his work which required him to be on a ladder a great deal of the time. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the work as well as the fact he was regularly cleaning up the work sites in our house. We will not hesitate to use these folks again.
Description of Work: Fixed 2 foot by 2 foot hole in the ceiling(damage from repairing a gas leak), floated primed and painted same; replaced and painted trim on a doorway; repainted the entire breakfast nook; removed wallpaper as necessary in the kitchen & primed walls, sealed with oil based primer, textured and repainted the walls; repaired, floated, textured and painted cracks in the ceiling in the master suite.

They came when promised; brought two workers as promised, finished on time. Worked hard to make the doors fit, which wasn't easy considering how the door jams were not exactly straight due to the age of the house. The doors had no holes for the knobs and nothing ready for the strike plates, and were not a standard size, so they had cutting and planning to do also. The finished product is absolutely fantastic. And to top it off, they cleaned up after themselves beautifully. Would definitely recommend!

When I finally got an appointment scheduled, the contractor was late. I had to call to check if they were still coming. When he finally came he did not even apologize for being late. I showed him everything that I needed done and he said he would have an estimate for me in two days. Two weeks later still nothing. Very unprofessional! I have given up on waiting and found another contract.
Description of Work: Had a difficult time scheduling an appointment. They were trying to squeeze me into another customer's cancellation instead of confirming my own appointment.

Alamo City provided estimates on four small construction jobs on my home. After agreeing to do part of the work, we held a pre construction meeting to confirm start dates and sign contracts. The foreman said that they would not be able to meet the requested start date (which would have been a rush) and they wanted to revise the quote. Alamo City then took over 14 days to get an update on the quote and included items that I told them not to do. The quote they sent back was over a 150% increase. The pre-construction meeting was done over the phone to be fair. However, this was the second time they were at the project site. After getting estimates from other construction companies on Angie's list Ed Jewett from Alamo gave a price that was five times the average. I have used them in the past and had good service. The bottom line is that if they didn't want to do the job they should have told me.
Description of Work: Alamo City provided estimates on four small construction jobs on my home. We agreed to do two of them that were never done due to Alamo City providing an astronomical increase in the quote after the pre-construction meeting.

Hey [Member Name Removed], sorry to hear about your experience with those guys, but you have the wrong business. We are Alamo City Handymen, I am the owner and my name is David Palomo. Ed Jewett owns Alamo Handyman. If you wouldnt mind making the correction, would appreciate it as we have always been A rated and work hard not to have that change.

He worked fast and hard and didn't take time off to rest. He was very helpful with his suggestions and answered all my questions.
Description of Work: Handyman's name was Saul. He hung some blinds. He repaired the door jamb and painted it to match. He replaced my outdoor spotlights using a tall ladder. He did a troubleshoot on a light fixture that wasn't working properly and got it to work. He repaired the closet clothes rod that was falling off the wall.

I scheduled an appointment for the representative to come to the house and take a look at the work that needed to be done, he was on time and very courteous, looked at what needed to be done, said everything should be very simple, he took pictures and said that he would have a quote to me in about 48 hours. Here it is, two weeks later with no quote and no explanation of why I haven't been provided a quote, just being ignored. This company had high ratings and it was the last thing that I expected, this is the second time it has happened. I am now back to the frustrating task of asking somebody else to come out and give us a quote. Not professional at all!

It went well. They got the materials and performed the work in a timely manner.
Description of Work: They put in a steel door on a storage building for me.
Although this company provides pretty good quality of work, they are extremely unreliable in their cost of projects and purposely refuse to provide you with details of your costs or costs updates while the project is being complete, so they can charge a larger price at the end for less work being completed. I would not recommend this company to anyone. At first, we were happy with the company. Our house is newly built and plans are not available for us to tell if the wall we wanted removed was load bearing. When the company came in to give us an estimate, their employee stated the wall was load bearing and provided the following estimate and cost of services: Wall removal, to include: Create temporary wall brace to support ceiling. Remove sheetrock and associated framing. Relocate switch to other side of doorway. Relocate or cap off two outlets on removed wall. Install end studs and support header in opening. Install sheetrock and bullnose corner as needed. Create curve on opening duplicating the existing arches. Tape, float, and texture to blend with existing. Install baseboard as needed. Prime and paint the walls corner to corner, ceiling, beam, and trim to blend with existing color. Install new tile to blend with transition tile. Tile may not be an exact match. Grout new tile. Cost estimate: 3,577.90 When I sent my down payment in for the job, I told the company that we did not want them to paint and prime. I asked for a updated estimate of services and was not provided with one. I was told that I would receive an update to the cost once the workers submitted to the company what work they had performed. This should have been a red flag for me, but at the time I did not think it was much of an issue. The company was difficult to schedule with, but we were willing to wait several weeks to have the project done because of the high reviews this company had received on Angie's List. When the company's employees (one qualified worker and one trainee) came out to complete our project, we were immediately told before any work was started that the wall was not load bearing. When we had obtained our estimate, we were very specific that if the wall was not load bearing we just wanted it quickly removed with minimal cost. We were ensured during the estimate that the elaborate estimate of creation of an archway and the need for a temporary wall brace to support the ceiling would only be used if needed. We were also told that cost would adjust down if less work was required. We agreed with the company to change the plan of services to simply remove the not load bearing wall. It took the two guys only two hours to completely removal the wall. Then they left for the day. On the second day, the electrician came and worked very slowly. But he completed his work in about three hours, to move the light switch (no rewiring required, simply moving the cord over and cutting a new hole in an existing wall). The two works came back and worked five hours on removing existing tile and putting down one new row of tile. They messed up during the removal process and made extra work for themselves by chipping and having to remove many good pieces of tile they should not have been removed or replaced. Luckily we had enough extra tile to replace all of their mistakes. On the third day, the two employees came and worked a full 9 am to 4 pm day. They put up drywall and grouted the tiles. Before they left, they requested to come back on Thursday or Friday, because they dry wall they had put up had not dried and they could not finish their work until the it was completed dried. They made no effort to dry it on their own and were relying simply on it to air dry. On Friday, one employee came back to finish the project. He worked for a little over three hours (not even three and a half). He finished up the project. The employees who came to our house were very nice and they tried to keep the area as clean as possible. Their work was good and I was not disappointed with the employees. The real problem with this company is their deceitful billing practices. Before the employee would leave on Friday, he demanded that I give him my final payment. He pulled up the original estimate we had been given on his phone and told him I owed him the balance of this estimate, minus my down payment. I questioned why I was being charged so much, when the actual project completed was far less complicated and did not include many of the service items billed for in the estimate. The worker said he would call the office and see how they wanted to adjust the bill. After going to his truck and speaking to the office, the employee stated they would be deducting $397!!!! I was very upset and uncomfortable making the final payment. I asked for a breakdown of all services provided and told I would be emailed one, but that I had to give my final payment at that time. I was uncomfortable being forced to pay, but did not know what else to do. I expected the breakdown to be emailed right away, so I could discuss the billings with the office manager and find out if we had been billed extra for a fourth day of work- when really the fourth day was required because of the little work accomplished on the first day. No detailed billing was received. I have written the company and am waiting on my detailed billing. Update: company took several days to get back to us and said they had a communication issue about work done. They gave us less than $500 back. The total price of the project $2,690.97. We can't figure out how they charged so much and they won't provide us with a detail billing explaining their cost. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!
Description of Work: Company took down a wall the separated our kitchen and dining room. They put down one row of tiles to replace where wall had been. The company moved the light switch to another wall (no new wiring required) and removed two outlets that had been in the wall. A small amount of drywall was put up to cover evidence of wall removal. And about four inches of baseboard were installed.

We had a 3 week wait for anyone to come out to give an estimate. With their high rating I was willing to wait. They arrive on time to see what work we were requesting, took pictures, etc. That was 10am on 9/16. I emailed on 9/20 to check to see how quote was coming since I had not heard anything. Response was received on 9/21 as well as the quote. The quote was just a lump sum so I responded on 9/24 to see if they could break down the quote between the 2 projects as well as break out supplies versus man hours. I have yet to receive a reply 10/6/2015. I have since contacted another company for a quote and had them perform the work since we are closing on the house this month I could not wait any longer to get these projects completed.

Brad was able to arrive early and called to see if he could come out and begin the work. I walked him through a variety of small repair jobs. He quickly repaired what he could on site and made a list to take to Home Depot for supplies to complete the rest. He returned quickly and repaired everything we needed. Brad is very nice and professional. We have used him twice and will call on him again in the future.

The gentleman show up on time (8 am). He was very nice, polite and professional. Although he knew what the job was, he did asked exactly what I was needing done on the fence & gate. I showed him everything. I furnished the all materials and I show him where they were located. He got to work right away. I did go out and check on him several times due to heat... took him water, etc. He did a great job! I thought this would take most of the day but he was done by noon! The fence and gate look great and they work even better. I felt it was a fair price for the amount & labor that it took to complete the job. I will not hesitate to call Alamo Handyman LLC again for the other work I need done in my home. A Big Thank you to Alamo Handyman! I will be calling in the future!

I called owner Ed Jewett and spoke to his receptionist. We'd purchased a service coupon on the KLRN Blazing Gavels auction. They thanked us for donating to KLRN. The receptionist asked what needed to be done and we set up an appointment the following week, yesterday, July 14. We also asked to have the traps in 3 bathroom sinks and 1 tub. cleaned out. They called back and said a plumber was needed for that job. So we decided to get everything else done. The traps are fine and can be done later Brad arrived yesterday and immediately surveyed the projects and began to work. We asked that cleats be placed behind the pegboards so the hooks would stay in. We now have much needed hanging space for gardening and often used indoor repair items. Brad had the diamond bit to drill into the 4X4 inch ceramic tiles in the bathroom. He proceeded to hung the handicap bars just where we wanted them. We've had the hanging lamp since 1978 when it hung over a basement bar in a previous home. After 15 years on the closet shelf in this house, it is now displayed in our patriotic guest bedroom. Brad wanted everything to be done exactly the way we wanted it. We were definitely impressed with his timely arrival, work ethic, friendliness, and obvious attention to detail. He cleaned up everything when he finished. Alamo Handyman owner, Ed Jewett, has a fantastic representative for his company!!
Description of Work: Hung bar type lamp, installed two handicap bars in tub/shower, and hung two large peg boards on the garage wall.
The handyman came to my house on a Monday; he was here about 30 minutes. He told me it would be 1-2 days before he got back to me with a quote. By the following Friday, I still hadn't heard anything so I called to check. I was told by the receptionist that the handyman would get back to me. Flash forward to following Monday. Still no contact so I called Alamo Handyman again. Receptionist puts me on hold, then returns to tell me that "he is working on the quote." I said "Tell him don't bother." She said okay, and that was that. Although no business was ever performed for us, I think the fact deadlines weren't kept or acknowledged, and I had to be the one to initiate all follow-up, doesn't bode well. "Past behavior predicts future performance." ~ Dr. Phil
