This was a spring check up that is suggested be performed each year (along with a fall check up). We are on a program where we pay a monthly fee to be covered for these check ups plus some insurance for any major work. We had a very bad experience last spring....our AC was working fine and after our recommended check up, by 2 less-than-professional men, that took all day, we had problems for MONTHS. They tried to fix the problem by sending out repair man after repair man, taking up many DAYS of my time, only to temporarily fix things. They FINALLY sent their SENIOR repair man, who together with another SENIOR repair man were able to get (and keep) our AC working. They recommended that we always request a senior tech to work on our units. We did so this year. He was prompt, efficient and polite. He also did the check up in a couple hours with no hassle.

I have been pleased with Aitron. They are dependable. I like the prices that have charged me. They are very nice. They remind me when they are supposed to come out. I have had a good experience.

The A/C unit that was installed in Aug 2012 stopped working on 4/6/2012. A call was placed to service and they came out 2 hours later, the tech told us it was the compressor and the part needed to be ordered and they would replace this part on 4/9/2012. When no one called on 4/9/2012, my husband called Airtron, they stated no one was coming out and they only JUST got the part. Additionally I had a Spring check set up for Monday 4/9/2012, and would be done after they replaced the compressor. However they cancelled this as well and said the soonest they could come out was the next morning at 8am. The technician arrived about 9am 4/10/2012 and was awesome. The technicians are amazing and know their work, however the office staff really need training, or retraining in how to not irritate their customers, they do this all too well. All the above work is under a 10 year warranty and service contract from Carrier/Airtron so cost was 0.

Airtron installed a new air conditioning unit and furnace at my home. The process took a long time but they stuck with it. They encountered more work than they thought they were going to. They did a good job. There was no increase in price, it was exactly what they quoted us. I will continue to use them for HVAC services.

They seem to be very knowledgable. I appreciate that they call me every six months to come out and are very prompt about their appointment times.
Description of Work: We have a contract. We have them out every six months. They go through all the equipment and make sure everything is working right. They find leaks and catch things that need to be fixed instead of replacing it. We save money that way.

Pending return call from Airtron regarding defective equipment and warranty.
Description of Work: Heater/air conditioning not working well, called for service, time for checkup anyway. Airtron was original equipment provider and installer. Was told by tech that refrigerant 3 lbs low, (new home,A/C unit 3-2009). Will replace refrigerant for $249.00 and check for leak site for additional $249.00. Probably leaking from evaporator and will replace if needed for additional $900.00. For a unit less than 3 years old? Did not purchase additional work, only paid for the checkup. Have called Airtron management to voice concerns and awaiting call back.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your concerns with our last service visit. Your system was started on 02/17/2009. You system came with a two year labor warranty from the builder,which ended on 02/17/2011. Unfortunately, after the two year period is over, the home owner is responsible for paying for labor repairs. It is no different than a car warranty. We install the best name brand equipment that we can get our hands on, however, we do not manufacture the equipment. All manufacturers have had coils fail before the parts warranties run out. Most manufacturers are changing the materials that the coils are made of to keep them from failing prematurely. You can Google search "Formicary Corrosion" and find out why your coil failed. The prices that were quoted to you for finding and fixing the leak are normal and in line with any reputable, licensed and insured A/C service provider. With that said, we are still interested in keeping you as a customer. I will offer an additional 25% off of any of the repairs quoted to you by our service team. We do have a program that protects you from these sort of unexpected repairs and covers tune ups on your equipment for $30.95 a month (Essential Home Care plan). If you are interested in enrolling in this program, you can call our office and get you signed up. The customer service representative may have mentioned this program to you when we took your original service request. After our AC stopped working, Airtron SA was onsite the next morning and fixed the problem in less than an hour. They had a fixed diagnostic fee so I didn't have to worry about spending lots of money just to troubleshoot the problem. The service technition discovered that the failed part was still under warranty (just barely) and also directed me to their website for a $50 coupon on the repair labor charges. I would absolutely use them again!

Jeremy was our tech. If you can get him that's a bonus. He was punctual, curteous, knowledgable, and quick. Answered all my questions. Used booties on his shoes before entering the house. He is the reason we will be returning customers when we need A/C services going forward. The experience was very professional, we got good value and their response time was very good. Thumbs up!
Description of Work: A/C tech did troubleshooting of our non-working system. Replaced blown fuse and did some rewiring of outside connections. Checked freon levels.

I made the appt this morning and they were able to come out this afternoon. They did call before sending the tech out like they said they would. So many times, they either show up whenever or don't show up at all. No problem with this company showing up when they said they would. Mike was the tech and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. I climbed up in the attic with him just so I can watch and learn. He had no problems with me standing and watching. He found two critical installation issues from the unit. The first was the most serious. He found the operator manual inside the sealed unit laying near the burners. Part the manual was charred and the plastic wrapping around the manual was melted. I can't believe the whole thing didn't burn the house down! Very scary. The second issue he found was an internal filter that should have been removed during the installation. This was impacting the airflow. Everything else checked out ok on the inside unit. He proceeded to the blower assembly outside where he checked the levels there. He was able to show me the chart from my unit to show that all the values he was reading were well within the specs. After contacting my home builder they decided to pay the entire cost of the visit which would have been $89, since Mike found some critical issues that were there when the home was built. Overall, very happy with AirTron and would use them again.

AirTron's service overall resulted in the repair of my A/c system but there should have been no failure in the first place since the system was brand new (a new house) AND when, they did come out the manipulated the costs so that they were so inflated that I was forced to accept a one year contract (or pay the ridiculously inflated price to simply isolate the problem). I consider this a form of extortion and I am very unhappy with these business practices.
Description of Work: On May 15, 2007, I closed on my home in this KB subdivision. Airtron was KB's subcontractor used to install my HVAC system - a Carrier Unit. Less than two (2) years later and within the warranty period, the cooling system failed. Airtron came out on Aug 21/22, 2009 and concluded that an outside valve was leaking and this had caused my coil to freeze up and stop working. According to the technician, the tiny valve cap was replaced and this fixed the problem at no cost to me since this was during the warranty period. About a year and a half later, on March 24, 2011, my system failed again - same problem, the unit froze up and stopped cooling. Airtron's technician, Mario came out and, after less than an hour declared that my coil was leaking. He further informed me that the manufacturer, Carrier, in a effort to comply with environmental guidelines had manufactured their coild with very thin walls making them susceptable to failure. To make matters worse, he kept stacking unrealistic costs until they totalled about $1300.00! Further, if I didn't sign up for the Direct Energy HomeCare Enrollment at $30.95 p/mo, I would be forced to pay the $1,300.00 and NOT get my A/C fixed. Not only that, I HAD TO PAY $550.00 IMMEDIATELY TO REPLACE MY COIL IN ADDDITION TO THE $30.95 p/mo for the next 12 months. If I attempted to cancel this service, I would be charged $150.00 according to this contract. THIS IS EXTORTION, PURE AND SIMPLE. My complaints are: Airtron installed a system they KNEW to be likely to fail because of the thin walled coils, When the system failed the first time, (under warranty), they did not replace the coil and should have, After the warranty period had expired, Airtron's technician concocted exorbitant and unrealistic charges for the sole purpose of forcing me to sign a contract and pay $550.00 to repair the coil. And, I am stuck with this contract until next April. Bottom Line: AirTron should have never installed this unit in my new home in the first place because they knew it to be defective. And I should never have been charged $920.00 ($550 plus $370) for repairs on a unit just over three years old. I am extremely unhappy with Airtron's business practices.

I have reviewed the customers service history and complaints. Below I will adress each complaint: "Airtron installed a system they KNEW to be likely to fail because of the thin walled coils," The builder decides what brand of system is selected for any given home. Carrier, a well known brand was installed in this home. All manufactureres of air conditioning systems use the same copper tubing in their coils and face simular problems with leaks due to formicary corrosion. This corrossion usually attacks the coil copper tubing in the 3rd-5th year,causing them to leak refrigerant. "When the system failed the first time, (under warranty), they did not replace the coil and should have," Airtron did repair a leak on the service valves on the outdoor unit on 09/22/09. No other leaks were present at that time as noted by performing a test with vacumn gauge.If the coil was leaking at that time, we would have replaced it because we could have applied for a labor credit from the manufacturer. It would have been in our best intrest to do so. The fact of the matter is, there was no leak indicated at the time of repair. "After the warranty period had expired, Airtron's technician concocted exorbitant and unrealistic charges for the sole purpose of forcing me to sign a contract and pay $550.00 to repair the coil. And, I am stuck with this contract until next April." We are not in business to "rip people off" as indicated by our four year Angies list awards history.It is expensive to change out coils,even though the part is covered by the manufacturer.The customers labor warranty ended after the second year from start up. The customer is responsible for paying for repairs after the second year. Since all air conditioners are supposed to be maintained, we offer a Protection plan that gives the customer up to $500.00 off of the initial repair and includes two bianual maintainance trips if they r sign up for the yearly plan. This is a good deal, beacuse the customer recieves $500.00 worth of repairs for $371.00. We have over 2000 customers who have taken avantage of these savings. We were merely giving the customer their options to try to save them money. "Bottom Line: AirTron should have never installed this unit in my new home in the first place because they knew it to be defective. And I should never have been charged $920.00 ($550 plus $370) for repairs on a unit just over three years old. I am extremely unhappy with Airtron's business practices." Carrier states that approimately 3% of their product fails within the factory warranty period.This is an industry wide standard failure rate. We have no way of knowing which equipment will fail when we are installing it. Obviously, if we knew a particular piece of equipment was going to fail, we would not install it. Airtron is not in the extortion business, we install the air conditioning systems in nearly 70% of all new homes being built in San Antonio, and have since 1970. Unfortunantly, all equipment does eventually break down. The price was $10000 for the air conditioner. When the system wasn’t cooling, they had somebody come out and it was 104 degrees here. The lady I talked to was very nice. She said that she couldn’t get anybody out here between 5 and 10, but she said that it would also be very hot without the air conditioning. Then the guy did come at 9:30 and he was here till quarter to 11. Finally, he said that it was too hot. He suggested that we get a new air conditioner because the one we had was starting to break. These are energy efficient systems. We haven’t got the bill yet, but we have certainly noticed a difference in the cooling. They went out of their way to get somebody over here right away. The guy that came over here to repair the night before had said that he couldn’t work up in our attic since it was very hot. He said that he would get somebody out here. He said that he would call me at 7:30 in the morning to let me know what was going on and he did call us in the morning exactly when he said he would. He was able to get two guys to come in and installed our air conditioner. They were here all day long. They had to work in the attic for quite a long time even though it was hot. I also sent a letter to their supervisor since they were very professional. I knew it was hot up there. They were nice, pleasant and very careful in the house. I have a dog and they were very good with the dog. They cleaned all the mess up. They came out here to check it again before the city inspectors came out to look. It was a pain in the neck for them because they had to take our old unit out and it was huge. They had to take the steps off of our attic and had to take our whole unit apart. It took them a lot longer because they had to do that. It was really inconvenient for them and they never complained even once. Everybody we have had come out has been very professional and good. They make sure that they have little boots on when they come into your house. They are very pleasant and they do what they have to do. We haven’t had to clean up after anyone. There were a couple of people who came out when we first moved into the house since we had problems with the temperature in here. There was some young guy that came over. He had a thermometer and the temperature had just regulated. We finally had to get a senior service representative out here and there was something wrong with the temperature. Other than that, we have had good experiences with them. I felt so bad for them when they were in the attic because they were sopping wet.
Description of Work: Airtron Heating & Air Conditioning put in a brand new air conditioner on the 24th of June. We have a contract with them because they had put in the air conditioning system in our house. So, we have a warranty with them and they come bi-yearly to check out the heating and cooling systems.

A part went bad in our AC. They told us a lot of people were having the issue and it was $700 to replace the part. They were fine when they were here. I thought the price was high. The service was great, I just thought the price was awfully high. There were two guys and they were very professional. People tell me I can find someone cheaper so I will probably look around more next time.

The system works well and they've been somewhat attentive in performing the routine maintenance (we purchased a 5-year maintenance agreement and it came with six-month "tune-ups"). We especially like Amir, one of their technicians. Nice guy and very good at what he does. He's Persian (from Iran) and interesting to talk to. We like the fact that he takes his time. We never get the feeling that he's being rushed to get in more service calls. Be prepared: their technicians get a commission if they sell upgrades and other items (like carbon monoxide detectors), so they do mention these "opportunities" when they come to your home. But they're not high pressure and it's not a big deal. If it's something I need, I buy it. If not, I don't.

I had to go to the "top" to get things done; but they followed thro and took care of all the problems on an extended basis. They spent LOTS on my unit to keep it working correctly. And I also had HIGH elec. bills until the problems got fixed.

The supervisor I dealt with was Jim, great guy. His installation crew came in a little late because the year end is full of meetings and special dates, etc. But when they came in they did not leave until they were finished pretty late in the evening. The installation was not 100% perfect, but they did not hesitate a single day and sent a sheet rock specialist the very next day, who took care of that small detail in no time. I was very satisfied with their overall service and competitiveness. Will use them next time for sure.

I use them all the time. I've used them for 12 years. I have a contract with them. I get ten percent off if I have to pay for anything extra. The person I use seems very knowledgeable and doesn't try to push us into buying other things. He takes care of our needs and what needs to be done. He is very honest and upfront. I get good service from them. Their price is probably about the same as most others but I haven't looked around since I have used them for several years. They call before they arrive and they have been very punctual.

We had work done on our house. I don't remember how much they charged us because it was done along with a major overhaul we had of our kitchen, a new studio, and a bathroom. It was a sub-contract with the contractor. They did the work at least when compared to all the other work we had done in our house, which was lousy. We had to have them come back once or twice. When they did come back, they did the work well. They were quite good on responsiveness. They were pretty punctual. They give you a 4 hour period and they do come on time. There was an incident where they came in, went upstairs, and left grease marks all over our wall which we had just had painted. They came back and they just did a real quick job of flushing the stuff out and the wall was left dirty. We complained about it. When we complained, they came back and quickly cleaned the wall. We had to have the wall repainted. We would use them again in the future if the need arose.
Description of Work: Airtron Heating & Air Conditioning came out and ensured that a room had the proper air-conditioning running in it.
