When the job required more materials than originally thought, they ran to Home Depot to pick things up and did not expect extra money at the end. The final product looks fantastic and I would definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: They removed an old back door and replaced it with a new one I purchased from Home Depot. They also came a few days before the work and measured to make sure I purchased the correct door.

+ -1 moreEverything went very well. The owner came out to give a free estimate. Honest, friendly guy and he sells the ProVia doors at cost. We had to custom order a door to replace a non-standard entry door (1930s home). It arrived about three weeks later and he and an employee came out to install the door right away. It took some doing because not everything was level (again, old house), but the door is installed perfectly and looks great. We plan to replace some windows next year and will definitely give Southern Pride Openings a call!

+ -1 moreI found Southern Pride Openings on Angie's list and after reading all the outstanding reviews, I decided to give them a call. I called for an estimate and Tom Herold came out the next day. He spent nearly two hours explaining the process, the options, showing samples, and helping me pick out doors/colors. I decided to go with the Provia doors. Tom told me that it would take about four weeks for the doors to be delivered. Three weeks later I got a call from Jason, Tom's helper. The doors were in and we scheduled installation the next day. Tom and Jason showed up on time the next day and and installed the doors and frames. The doors are of outstanding quality and look great. Tom and Jason were professional, courteous, and answered my many (some times nit-picky.) questions with a smile.They really are genuinely nice folks. Southern Pride is a fitting name for this company. High quality doors + high quality installation + a company that considers customer satisfaction priority one = one happy customer. Very highly recommended.

This really helped us see what our options were and difference in quality vs. price. Tom's experience was evident. He likes what he does and he seemed genuinely interested in our satisfaction. Tom and Justin arrived promptly. I observed them as they worked and couldn't help noticing how much they liked what they were doing. They seemed confident that we were going to be happy with their work and we were. The door's construction is impressive. It's beautiful! Tom and Justin took extra pains to improve the original construction to insure the beauty and function of our new door would last. Tom and Justin cleaned and vacuumed the inside and out. I really like it when I get what I pay for. And in this case, I feel like I got a bargan. The best part of all of this was meeting these men. These are great guys that we want to support. I know that we're not the only ones who feel this way either. We highly recommend Southern Pride Openings!
Description of Work: Southern Pride Openings replaced our 8 foot patio door that had been damaged from sprinkler overspray and direct sun. This involved cutting away and completely replacing the old door jams with header and then installing the new door with trim and then caulked.

They showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves, matched the door trim to the existing trim and caulked everything very well. It looks awesome and they were very professional and friendly.

+ 0 moreTom came out several weeks before the project actually started to measure the space, look at the doors we were thinking about ordering and to give advice on how he would proceed with the project. When we went to Home Depot to order the doors, he was accessible by phone to make sure we ordered the ones right for our project. Best advice from him was to not order custom doors, which is what we would have had to do and would have added significant cost to the project, but to instead order standard size doors and build out the trim around them. This worked out great. Tom and Justin picked up the doors for us, came to house and began work that morning. The work took the better part of the day, and Tom went out to buy materials that he needed to finish the job while Justin completed the inside trim. Afterwards, they cleaned up the job site, removed and hauled off the old doors and made sure everything was in place. The only issues we had are with the manufacturer, not Tom. He and Justin did a great job regardless of the price, but the fact that he charged what he did, made this process even more palatable. He's a true professional and obviously cares about his craft and his clients. If you need any doors or windows installed, he's definitely your man.
Description of Work: We had our existing french patio doors in our sunroom replaced with double sliding glass doors. The news doors were smaller than the existing space so Tom had to build out some new trim and perform some carpentry in order for them to fit that space.

+ -1 moreWe had a new custom patio door installed from a home supply store installer. The craftsmanship of the door was very poor, as well as the installation. The door leaked much worse than the original door we replaced. We ordered a new custom patio door and had it installed by Tom. He did an excellent job installing the door. During removal of the first door, Tom discovered rotten wood in the existing frame that the previous installer had covered up. Tom replaced the rotten wood and installed the new door. He also went out of his way to pick up the new door from the supplier, as well as return the defective door to the supplier. He is very meticulous and made certain the new door operated correctly before he left. He did not rush at all and cleaned up the work area very well when he was finished. A few days after the installation, we discovered the door had settled and needed some adjustment. Tom did not hesitate to come back the same day we called him to make certain the door was closing properly. We highly recommend this service provider.

Trust was a big factor in my decision as Tom did not over sell and did not represent any particular manufacturer. After two meetings we agreed on pricing and the windows were installed as promised. The job quality exceeded my expectations. It was evident that Tom cared about his work and the fact that the owner/proprietor did the actual install was a big plus. + -1 moreThe entire job from start to finish was of the highest professionalism. The doors are absolutely gorgeous! Not only are they pretty, but energy efficient. Our three dogs (a Siberian Husky, A Husky-German Sheperd mix, and our new little Corgi), can go in and out any time they choose, which is great for them and us!! All of the trash, boxes, and excess materials were removed and cleaned up when they left. We definitely would hire Tom again, but hopefully will not need doors anytime soon (he also does windows).
Description of Work: Our house was built in 1978. I'm not sure if our doors were the originals, but we knew they had been there a good 15-20 years. Our Front storm door was off the hinges, with the inside door not bad, but aging. The same can be said about our patio door. Our bedroom doors were double doors, where each could be opened if desired. The door had lattice-work, with gaping air leaks despite my attempts at insulating. The past 10 months, the outer glass on one of the double-panes had cracked into thousands of tiny pieces. Tom responded immediately to my Angie's List email. We set up a time for him to come out, where he arrived at the arranged time. He looked at what we desired ( a new Front door and Storm door, a new Storm door with a "doggie-door" onto our patio, and new double-doors off of our bedroom. He showed us the type of doors that he could install; from "The Home Depot" type doors, to some made in Pennsylvania. He calculated the price differences of each, and the pro's and con's about each. We decided on the type and style of the doors, and he asked for 1/2 of the total charge be paid then, with the balance paid after the completion of the work. He told us that it would take 4-6 weeks for the doors to arrive, and that he would call me when they were to be shipped. Tom called me about 3 weeks later saying the doors were in, and suggested we have them installed that Thurs. and Friday. He and his associate arrived at 8:30 a.m. sharp, as he had promised. They finished installing our Bedroom doors and the Patio door with the "doggie-door" that day. They then returned on Friday morning and installed the Front doors.

Well, I was happy about that and he came and he measured the doors and he asked when would I like them hung and I said Wednesday and he said he would come. I later asked about the price and I was blown over because that was within my price range. He showed up on time and he prep the work site, he started on the French Patio doors with the mini blinds and he later installed the kitchen door. He also, has excellent taste because I wanted new trim because the old stuff was just worn out. He went to the store and purchased that new trim for me. I'm just so happy with his work and I would call him in a heart beat to help with the doors.
Description of Work: I recently joined Angieslist and I read the reviews for the Door Installer and I was pleased with what I read and I prayed that the installer was as great as the review. Well, he is Excellent, and he is Professional and he has Skills and his price is very reasonable. I had a patio door and a kitchen closet door installed and he started at 7:00 am and he was done by 11:30 am. Ladies he comes highly recommended and you will not be disapponted at all. Yes, I will use his services again. He's a winner in my book. He works very hard and the pride and quality is all there. Excellent, Excellent & Excellent.

+ -1 moreI called Tom at Southern Pride Openings on Friday, July 20th. He responded and set a date to see my house on Saturday, July 21st. I didn't expect him to stop by on such short notice, especially on a Saturday. He spent a good one and a half going over what ProVia provides and all the options included. He was very thorough and he seemed very sincere in answering all my questions. He is the owner of the business. I am currently looking for a steel front door. ProVia has 20 guage and 24 guage (20 guage being almost 50% thicker). The estimate for the 24 guage steel front door was around $750. The 20 guage steel front door was around $1,250. Installation is where Tom makes his money and is a flat $250. The cost of the door is exactly what Tom charges his customers. I am not sure if this is true but Tom mentioned fiberglass doors are more expensive then steel doors. If that is true steel doors are a great deal. The door looks terrific. Twelve basic paint colors are included in the cost. Having a wood grain added is extra as well as having the front and back side of the door different colors. Along with the door, the locks, hinges, door trim, and demolition services are all included in the price. All of the hardware is very impressive and well integrated. Painting of the door is done at the factory. The door seems very secure. Since ProVia doors are custom doors I am sure they would fit well and Tom would do a great job installing them. I can't comment on the price since he was the first person I called.

He explained that due to the unusual size of the opening it would be a special order door, which would take longer to receive. The man who owns the company then came out on another day to make sure the original measurements were correct. He called ahead to let me know he was on his way. He arrived on time and acted professionally. Two weeks later I called to check on the status of the door. He scheduled installation for the very next day. They arrived on time, they were friendly, courteous, and stayed on task until the doors were complete. They did not paint or prep the raw wood, they only ordered and installed.
Description of Work: Had French doors ordered and installed in the opening to the formal living room. This was a special order door as it was an unusual size. They installed the doors and finished off the woodworking trim around the opening to match the rest of the house.

+ -1 moreBased on Tom's phone estimate, I set up an appointment by phone for the door installation. He worked with me on the date as he knew I was under a time constraint. They called before arriving on-time. Both Tom and his coworker were pleasant and helpful, and seemingly interested in doing a good job. They completed the task quickly and gave me, upon my request, two more quotes for future work. The door looked so good that I now want new doors all-around! And they did such a nice job, at such a reasonable rate (less than HALF what a local company quoted me), that it's conceivable that I will be employing them several more times for new door installation. Great people, highly recommended service.
Description of Work: Previously purchased/delivered French door was unpacked and installed in a clean opening which had to be built to match the door size. Tom H. went with me to the hardware store to select moulding, trim, lumber, caulk and insulation, which I purchased and he cut and hauled to my home. Once there, Tom and his coworker amended the door opening to fit the door, then installed the door and its hardware. They checked to make sure everything was level; they mitered and fitted the trim perfectly; they caulked cleanly. And they hauled the refuse to the curb for pickup and cleaned the area of debris.

+ -1 moreExcellent experience. Response to all calls or emails was on the same day. I received 3 quotes for the job, Southern Pride's was very competitive. I went with them for several reasons: first, as they specialize in doors and windows I really felt confident that they knew what they were doing; second, they use high quality materials with a lifetime warranty; third, they handled everything very professionally, from the way they talked, dressed, and came prepared to meet with us (brought samples, a list of addresses we could drive by to see their work, references, etc.) through the whole installation process. I really like how the work was done by Tom himself (along with one co-worker) and not by a subcontractor or day laborer. This was especially nice because there was no language issue/mis-communication, and if I had a question, Tom could answer it right away, and didn't have to call the office to find out. Overall, I would recommend Southern Pride Openings to anyone wanting to replace their door. Tom was punctual, professional, and we are extremely happy with the results- would definitely use them again if we need any doors or windows replaced!

+ 0 moreOn my initial contact I found him to be very professional and personable and I felt he had a great deal of business sense when I told him I had decided to order my door from another company out of state and he said he could install it for me for a very reasonable amount. He impressed me with his integrity, professionalism, customer service and carpentry skills when the door was installed today. He had to do some adjustments in the space and in the installation as he said that the walls were not completely straight. He and one of his crew removed all of the door moulding and the door jam and then installed the new door, jam and mouldings. They rehooked up the door bell, cleaned up the area and took the old door and storm door to Habitat for Humanity. The removal of old and installation of new door took 4 hours. Tom said he normally is able to get the door in in about 3 hours but there was no additional fee when it took longer than expected. This is an excellent company and I would work with them again in a minute.
Description of Work: Although I had initially looked at the doors from this company, we wanted the beauty and character of a wooden door while this company had only fiberglass and steel doors. So I did not purchase a door from them but when Tom Herold, the owner of Southern Pride Openings, told me he could install the door and what the price would be, I was very interested.

I had just had my foundation repaired so I was concerned that the sticking door was due to the repairs. Tom spent about 15 minutes and confirmed that the door was just off-track, and he fixed it. He didn't want to charge me anything, but we gave him $20 for his time and gas. I requested a quote to replace the door, and when the time comes I will definitely use Tom for all my window and door needs.

+ 0 moreTom was extremely prompt to answer the phone the first time we called. He moved a prior personal appointment for the next day to accomadate our request. During the visit, he checked all the installation requirements in detail, as well as the necessary repairs. He was very knowledgeable on the issues and the mitigation for the same. Tom was quick to provide a quote on the installations as well as the material, he had samples for the same and explained the merits of each. The final choice was still ours and was well within our budget - as compared to some of the retail outlets that we had investigated previously. On agreement, Tom took the basic amount to order the windows and mentioned that he would only need the remaining post-installation. I had to call Tom to check the status of the window order, since my doors were in a week. But he was prompt after that, he confirmed the windows were ready and scheduled an installation date real fast. On the day of the installation, Tom and Justin picked up the doors and windows from the specific outlets. Came in promptly for the appointment, installed the storm doors, windows, conducted the remaining repairs - in what we felt was record time (it took only about 2 hours for the overall process). Post-installation, we were walked through all the installations, while Tom asked any questions on how to continue to operate the new doors, how to handle general wear and tear etc. Overall it was a great experience, we would definitely recommend Southern Pride to our friends and use them on future projects. Kudos to the team for a fantastic job - and the overall experience.

+ -1 moreIt was less expensive then the other quote we got from Jeld-wen by a lot and he gave us a lot more information up front about all of the numerous options. The installation was quick and well done. We did have one issue with the door handle which didn't work as expected, you had to pull the lever up instead of pushing down. He is going to fix that. Overall a very positive experience.

+ -1 moreTom and Justin came out 2 days prior to installation date and gave me an estimate on installing a slider window in the laundry room/ kitchen area .I have an older home and was concerned that the old window would be an odd size and there would be alot of additional labor cost involved .As it turned out , the window was a standard size and there wasn't much alteration at all . Installation went smoothly and I was very pleased with his work .The estimate was right on (window cost + 100 installation). This is just one of a few projects that I had planned on in remodeling my house . My next project is front and rear exterior doors which i am planning on using Tom and Southern Pride openings for this project as well .
