Hofer Wood Shutters

Arrived at 8:30 on a Saturday morning and was finished by 11:00. Wasted no time and cleaned up after himself. Was very carefuly of tracking in dirt or leaves from outside and very careful that he did not bump into the wall with his equipment. We will be calling again!

Very pleased, overall. Had a minor miscommunication on the exact expected date of installation but all was accommodated in the end.

This was a really good experience. I sent e-mails through Angie's list to three different companies. Hofer responded within a few hours to set up a time to give me an estimate. He did ask how many windows we were considering doing before hand; at minimum we were doing 12, I don't know if he has a minimum amount before he'll come out. We scheduled an estimate for a Saturday afternoon; he arrived when he said he would, and didn't seem to mind the barking dog or curious toddler. We weren't certain how many windows we would do for sure, so asked for an estimate that broke it down window by window. He said he would give us a discount based on the number of windows we did. The estimate he provided included a discount for doing all of the windows we talked about, and he said if we decided on a smaller number of windows, he would figure out the discount from there. We decided to do all of the windows we had measured. We did not do a high half-moon window in the master bedroom, any of the bathroom windows, or our kitchen window because we plan on redoing our counters in the near future and worried about working around the shutters, and we just plain forgot that our garage has windows that face the street. When we finally get around to redoing the kitchen and having that shutter made, we'll do the garage windows too. After we decided to go with Hofer, we had to choose the shade of white for the shutters. The previous owner did not leave paint cans behind, so we brought home all the white paint chips from Home Depot and did our best to pick the one that looked the closest to the existing trim and window frames. We gave the paint name to them, and just waited for the shutters to be ready. When they were ready, we arranged installation on a day my husband could be home. Installation was quick, and they even puttied one of the window ledges that our puppy had chewed up. The one area I rated as lower than an A was in responsiveness, and that was because there were a few times where I sent an email with a few questions, and the answering email would respond to only 1. Overall, our experience was very good, and the shutters are awesome. We will definitely return to Hofer when we are ready to do the kitchen and garage windows.

Overall this was an excellent experience. My husband has already recommended Jim Hofer to a collegue because we are so pleased. It is with pleasure that I recommend Mr. Hofer to anyone on Angie's list who wants beautiful plantation shutters in their home.

Overall, I am totally pleased with Hofer Wood Interiors, and Jim is such a pleasant guy it would be almost impossible not to like him.He obviously has a good attitude and likes people.He makes it obvious that he is there to do a quality job and tell it like it is about the different types of product and so on.As most all his other reviews here on the List reflect, he is a great choice. Plantation shutters are expensive, but I love what I received for my money and they should last the lifetime of the home, as they are solid kiln dried wood.My fiance was against them at first, but when I had them painted white as she asked for and she saw them, she loved them too.The pait job he did is flawless. He is a very good painter; I have not seen one drip. They are set in a fitted frame so that you can open them for cleaning, and being inside, they will never get weathered.I will probably eventually replace most or all of my hard to clean, easy to break flimsy plastic blinds with these plantation shutters.

I contacted Jim via phone and he came on a Saturday to take measurements to prepare the quote. He was very professional and chatted with me at length about the products and the process of getting the shutters ordered and installed.I received the quote the next day and made my decision to go forward. He required a large down payment because the shutters were custom made but I already knew from reading the past reviews. The shutters took approximately 4 weeks to complete. The installation was done by Jim and his son while I was at work. When I came home they were already gone and the shutters looked great. The shutters were painted to match my existing moldings and trim. I am very happy with the project and the experience.I highly recommend Jim should you want to add plantation shutters to your home.

We needed window treatment and really had no idea who to choose or what product to select. We searched the internet after looking for quite a while; we decided that we needed another method to distinguish the best company to choose. I then signed up for Angie’s List and continue the quest to find the best blinds company in the area. We saw one company that far exceeded everyone else on excellent ratings and that company was Hofer Wood Interior. Well we called them, they came by to do an estimate and make recommendations. To sum this up, they are true craftsman in their trade and installed the blinds professionally. They know what they are doing and our blinds add that touch of elegance to the home. If you have to install blinds, go no further on your search…select these guys for your home. You will be very happy with the result.

Plantation shutters were at the top of my list for renovations to our "new to us" 15-year-old home. We had just had the interior painted and faux finishing touches and wanted wood shutters to finish the look. I had gotten several quotes, two of which came recommended by Angie's List and decided to go with Mr. Hofer because of his master carpenter skills and that he and his son would be personally installing them. He does not use a middle-man and applies all the finishes himself. He was very informative on our options, and we were able to make a comfortable decision as to which shutters were the right ones for us. We had several paint colors (2) and wood stains (2) he had to work with that were individual to each room and he accommodated every single one. I must say with all the windows we were having done, I was a little nervous that some would be done incorrectly. They were not. You can also count on his services and products to be right on schedule, which is a rarity after I had just dealt with many a contractor/painter. The products we received were of the highest quality, as was the work that was done. It was a perfect experience and would highly recommend Mr. Hofer for your job.

The experience was wonderful. They were prompt and very professional. They called me back. They cleaned everything up and left no mess. They made sure the stain matched my woodwork. I just love everything they did.

Jim was excellent and very professional. He put wood shutters in every window. Everything was done to my expectations. He came on time and did an excellent job with the color matching and installation. Jim and his family did all the work and cleaned-up when they left. The price is on the high end, but It was a job well done and I would use this company again.

Within about two weeks Mr Hofer came in person with his son to install the shutters. He and his son took great care and did excellent work. Mr Hofer and his son are very personable , intelligent people and they get to work promptly when it comes time to install the shutters. No detail is too small . I ordered a shutter to fit one large window and a double window in the kitchen, a large double window in the master bedroom and an arched window in the study. The shutters fit perfectly and can be opened so the windows can be cleaned or opened if needed. The shutters seem very sturdy yet all moving parts work perfectly. The installation of the shutters took about an hour and a half or less. No time was wasted. I couldnt have asked for more. I had already paid part of the cost when the initial estimate had been made.The remainder of the cost was paid after all of the work had been done. Both Mr Hofer and his son cleaned up after the work was done.

Jim arrived promptly when we called for an estimate, which he delivered via email later that same day after taking rough measurements. The bid was competitive, and he was even willing to negotiate. We quickly arranged a second appointment for final measurements. He was always punctual and courteous, and he quickly responded to questions. He oversaw installation himself, and he and his team were polite, professional and did top-quality work, even taking care to clean up, remove old blinds and reposition the furniture when finished. The installation, finish and color match on the sturdy shutters were flawless, and the shutters arrived when promised despite being ordered over the holidays. The shutters came with a lifetime guarantee. We were very pleased and highly recommend the company.

They installed the shutters on the front and we decided to order more. The front shutter paint didn't match the window trim well so when the additional shutters came in, they picked up the first order and painted them again to where the match well. Very happy with the results.

A very good experience. Promptly showed up for measurements at the appointed time. Provided a ballpark estimate at the time he measured, and a formal qoute, very close to his estimates, within a couple of business days of measuring (which was done on a day leading to a holiday weekend). Shutters were ready when he said they would be. And he held them for us while we were delayed with other work that needed to be performed prior to installing the shutters. Once we were ready to install he was able to schedule a date in the very near future, showed up when promised, and he and his worker provided professional and courteous installation. We are very pleased with the shutters, the price, and the service. Would recommend to others.

I wanted to upgrade our window treatments and decided on shutters after doing extensive research on various types of window coverings.. Once the shutter decision was made, I searched for a shutter company in Angie's List. I was looking for quality, service, consultation, and value for the price. I found all that with Jim Hofer and his product. I contacted him in early September and he came out the next day for the consultation, etc. I had tons of questions about shutters in general and, in particular, his product. He answered them to my satisfaction, he gave some suggestions, he showed me some pictures of his prior installations, etc. The shutters are Texas-built and come with a transferable warranty which was important to me. I was interested in a quote which he provided by the next day. Since I was doing all the windows at once, he gave me a discount on the price, too. He explained that $5000 would need to be paid at the time of the order with the balance paid at installation. That was fine to me as these were custom shutters. I was doing some other home improvements at the time and I told Jim that I accepted his quoted price...but, I would not be able to install until all the projects were done and the final painting was complete. Jim agreed to that and told me to keep him informed of our progress. Once I was ready, we placed the order for the shutter build. I gave him our paint number so he could match the shutters to our newly painted trim. The shutters were even ready a week ahead of schedule which was great. Today (mid-December), Jim and his son, Jason, installed the shutters. They were done in about 3 hours. The shutters are just beautiful. The quality is evident. The color was a perfect match to our trim. They fit great. They open easily for cleaning. They provide an instant 'upgraded' look to the home....both inside and outside. I told them, "I feel like I live in an upscale home". I am so pleased. I would definitely work with Jim again and would refer him to anyone who wanted the quality of shutters he provides. Thank you.

A friend recommended Jim to us. We saw his work in their new home and were very impressed. He came out and provided us with an estimate within a few days. We gave him the paint code from our trim and he had it custom mixed to match our interior. The shutters were ready in about 4 weeks and he came out and installed them personally. He was very professional.

I used Angie's list to find vendors, and the top-rated vendor tried to sell me on plastic shutters. I called Hofer and they quoted wood at about $500 less than the plastic. The quality of the shutters is outstanding -- some of the best I've seen. My advice -- skip the plastic shutters and call Hofer.

quality of shutters are excellent ... The shutters open like doors which I love. I was told by other companies that in order to open and close shutters i would have to lift them up and then shut them because of how heavy they were....with the shutters put in by Jim Hofer they open and shut like doors....I love them!!! I would definitely use them again whenever I move to a bigger home....he's not the greatest at answering emails but the quality of work make up for it!

I was so impressed when I saw the finished product. I found Mr. Hofer on Angie's list due to his reputation. The quality is just exceptional. My husband was home for the install and said the 8 windows only took about 45 minutes. I have now asked to do 2 more rooms!

This was a small job, but I was so impressed with Jim Hofer's responsiveness, I decided it warranted a review. We just moved into a new home which had customer shutters. Many of the pins that attach the shutters together had fallen out. I tried to go to Home Depot or Lowe's, but apparantly these pins can only be found through the installer of the shutters. Since I didn't know who that was, I found Hofer Wood Interior on Angie's List. Jim Hofer came over the same day. Based on information given to him over the phone, he estimated the cost to be about $75. Once he started repairing the shutters he mentioned the job was more than he expected. I, of course, expected him to charge more at the end but he didn't. And not only did he stick to his estimate, he accepted a 10% off coupon and rounded down! So a $75 job became $65. This was a small job that he could have easily dismissed...I'm sure he had bigger jobs to get to. We talked a lot about my shutters and I will definitely call him if I need anything else. I also asked him if he did work with blinds as well (we have blinds on the back side of our house). He said yes he did, but he can't be as competitve as with shutters. Again, he could have tried to sell me up, but he didn't. He's honest, professional and responsive!

We called Jim and 2 other shutter providers from Angie's list for estimates. Jim came out to give us an estimate within 48 hours of the initial phone call. He was by the far the most knowledgeable about real custom wood shutters. We were expecting his estimate to be on the high side to do the level of customization some of our windows required (arched, extra large, crank openings). We were pleasently surprised when his estimate was the lowest of the three quotes, including one quote for polywood. From the time we ordered with Jim it took 4 weeks for the shutters to be made, custom painted to match the various trim colors in our house, and installed. The other two quotes estimated an installation date of 8 weeks after order date.The shutters have completely transformed the look of our house from inside and outside. We decided to go with the 4 1/2 inch, single panel plantation shutters after a recommendation from Jim's son, who works with him. They look fantastic! We could not be happier with the finished product. We also ordered roman shades for 9 french doors from Jim. We went with a basic style and fabric and we have been happy with those as well! We would highly recommend Jim Hoefer if you are considering shutters for your home.

Jim Hofer responded quickly to our initial call and came to our house for measurements the next day. The shutters were ready in about 3 weeks (other companies stated that it would take about 6 weeks),and installation was well done. The shutters are beautiful, and we're very pleased. We'd definitely recommend Hofer services and would use them again.
