This was a service call. Very professional, arrive when they say they will (and call ahead), and provide good advice without pressuring to replace the unit (which it needs). Will definitely contact Fresh Air when we are ready to replace our AC unit.
Description of Work: This was a service call, however, we have used Fresh Air in the past at another home for service as well as having purchased two AC units.

Fresh Air removed & replaced my heating system and air conditioner system at my residence. The work was quoted to meet the IRS energy tax incentives (which all competitors claimed could not be met for a 5 ton unit) which allowed a 1500 tax credit on my tax return (not part of how much I spent). Further, the duct work was substantially modified and flow improved in the residence causing a substantial decrease in cost of operation and improvement in comfort. The work was professional and cleaned up by the end of a single day. It got cold the next week and I was warm.
Description of Work: The A/C and furnace/blower system were replaced. Some of the duct work was modified and a platform built around the unit which improved access by the installers and me. The work accomplished was more than I expected. The heater and A/C were substantially more efficient than my 20 year old unit.

They installed units with the highest efficiency. Everything was excellent! They got here on time and finished all the work in one day. I had a couple of minor issues after an inspection and they were very responsive in fixing those problems.
Description of Work: Fresh Air replaced both of our air conditioning units and heating units. They also replaced all of the duct work in the attic and put in an auxiliary duct.

The units that were recommended were Carrier. The air conditioners have been complete and total LEMONS since we purchased them. Fan motor went out...then a compressor---all of this while under a maintenance contract and regular maintenance from this company. Fresh Air has been no help in terms of trying to make this right with Carrier. All I'm ever told is "call 1-800-Carrier." For 13K spent, I expect better customer service. These units have not performed nearly as well as the 11 year old Rheems we replaced.
Description of Work: We purchased an entire new heating and cooling system for our home in 2004.

Response from Fresh Air, L.P.
Fresh Air has done everything possible to help the member. The compressor was replaced under the 10 yr part only manufacturer warranty. The member was charged for labor, freon, welding materials etc. This is standard practice for any company replacing a compressor in the 10 yr manufacturer part warranty period. When she said she was unhappy with her equipment, we gave her the 800 number for Carrier customer service. We at Fresh Air pride ourselves on customer service and we are sorry the member is unhappy.

The first person came out the same day I called. At first the repairmen wouldn't be able to come out for two days. The scheduler called me back and said they had a cancellation and they would be able to come out the next day. The repairmen were very polite and cleaned up thoroughly after they were finished. They answered all my questions and gave recommendations for the proper filters to use. It was an expensive lesson to learn, but this company's great service made it bearable. The office personnel worked with me to get a quick resolution.
Description of Work: I was having a problem with excess condensation dripping from the unit to the floor and under a wall into my closet. The first person out gave a thorough inspection and determined that the evaporator coils were extremely dirty and needed a chemical cleaning. Repairmen were able to come out the next day and did a great job. Because of the cramped work space they had to remove the coils and take them out to the driveway to clean them off. They did the work in about 1/2 hour less than the 2 hours estimated.

Good. Work done well but cost and estimate were too high!
Description of Work: A/C was not cooling. Called Fresh Air. Prompt response and was more or less on time. Checked A/C. Mentioned Freon was leaking. May have to replace if the it leaks again. Filled Freon and unit working. (Hope the Evaporator works for a long time). Estimate for Evaporator coil was $ 2000! Last year paid $750 for the same job on the other A/C unit. Expect to pay at least twice than others.

Yes, we do charge more than many other companies in the area, though not as much as others. I make no apologies for our pricing. I learned a long time ago that it is far better to offer a more expensive, quality service and explain our prices every once in a while than to skimp and live with a reputation for poor quality forever. Why do we charge more? It’s a fair question. Let me endeavor to answer. First, our prices are not set by happenstance. They aren’t set to the level we think the market will bear. Neither are they set to the level our competitors charge. Our prices are set so that we can keep one dime out of every dollar after taxes. I think that’s fair. The fact is that are prices are based on our costs. Out of every dollar we charge, we must pay for: • Our technician’s salary • Worker’s compensation • Social security • Medical benefits • Uniforms • Ongoing training • The time it takes to drive to your house • Tools • Trucks • Finance charges on the inventory we carry • Gas • Insurance for our trucks • Business insurance • State licensing • Telephone line charges • Our telephone system • Someone to answer the phones and dispatch the technician (keeping track of the progress of every job to keep you informed when you can expect the technician) • Overhead and benefits for office personnel • Our computers • Our software • Someone to enter information into the computers • Accounting • Billing • Tax services • Legal services • An after-hours answering service • Yellow Pages advertising • Other advertising • Membership in professional and trade organizations • Reserves to ensure we can honor all of our warranties and guarantees • People to fill out dozens of forms and reports for various government regulators • Taxes It costs a lot of money to run an organization that is prepared to respond rapidly for people like yourself who call us in a crisis because their comfort system has broken down during extreme weather conditions. You don’t want to wait until we can get around to it. That means we need extra resources standing by. Unfortunately, faster service is more expensive. Yes, there are some in our community that charge less. There are some that hire less qualified personnel, who make lots of mistakes and must go back and correct them. There are some that do not train their workforce to keep them up to speed with current codes and practices. There are some that drive beat-up old trucks, which will leak oil all over your driveway or in front of your home. There are some that do not conduct background checks on their employees or perform drug tests to ensure that you won’t have to worry about a service technician returning at night to rob you to support a drug habit (please do not scoff; this is a very real problem in our industry). There are some that do not carry the proper level of insurance to protect you in the event of a catastrophe. There are some that cut a lot of corners. I can understand how you might be upset. If you walked into a nice steak house for dinner, you might also be upset to learn that you could have gotten a dinner at a buffet style restaurant for far less. Different businesses charge different prices for what appear to be similar products and services every day. Yet, rarely are the products and services truly the same. There are always differences. When you called us, you may not have wanted the quality of service and level of protection we offer. You did want our speed of response, however. The problem is the quality of service, level of protection, and speed of response come together as a package. We can’t break them apart or isolate one aspect of our service from another. I think it’s fair to say that you understood what cost when you agreed to the service, just like you understood the cost of a dinner when you order from the menu at a restaurant. When you order a dinner and eat the meal, I doubt you try to walk out on the check even though you might think it’s pricey. I would hope you give us the same consideration. I’m not here to make excuses. I merely wanted to offer an explanation. I hope you have a better understanding than you did before

Seems a little pricey for replacing a $10 part! They were, however, prompt in coming out, diagnosing the problem, and replacing the part. I just can't get over the cost of a switch/transformer, about 3 inches long costing so much; $475? The call was during the day and I asked them to come out at their convince (it's our upstairs unit). It was not a middle of the night call or weekend. Their service call was $75.00, so the part was $400.00. I'm fully aware that I'm not an A/C technician, but Carmon: $400? Even if they doubled the price. If I knew which part it was, I would change it out myself. I guess there goes the cost of the knowledge. Wing which component to unplug and plug back in.
Description of Work: Our air condition unit stopped working. I checked Angie's List and selected a company close to my location. The technician came out, diagnosed the problem in under 5 minutes, replaced the transformer and was out the door. The air conditioner works perfectly.

These boys are really on the ball when it comes right down to it. We needed a new air conditioning unit because the old unit went bad and the representative came out and quoted the costs on the newer units. They helped us decide what was right for us, as well as our budget. The unit was installed in no time at all and runs just fine. We havent had any problems with it.
