For the December 11, 2010 service, Kahn explained the work performed and I did not have any noticiable problems with my computer until February 25, 2011. On March 1, 2011, the technician, Matt Murphy, discovered that the problem was due to the configuration of the Rebit software that PC House Call had installed during the December 11 service. Although software installed and improperly configured by PC House Call caused the problem with my computer they charged me an additional $48 to correct the problem. The technicians were responsive, punctual and professional. The ratings apply to the company management and business practices.
Description of Work: On December 11, 2010, the technician, Kahn Knight, performed general cleanup/updates on my desktop and laptop. An external hard drive was added for backup of my hard drives along with the backup software Rebit. I also purchased Mozy for additional backup and Avira for virus protection. He also re-partitioned the laptop hard drive to improve efficiency and installed the aforemetioned software on the laptop. I called PC House Call on February 25, 2011 and left a voice mail message but did not receive a return call. On March 1, 2011, I contacted PC House Call due to extreme slowness in regard to accessing the menu for deleting, saving and copying files on my desktop. I had not attempted to use this feature on my computer until the February 25 date after the service on December 11, 2010 and therefore, did was not aware of the problem until February 25. The technician sent by PC House Call was Matt Murphy.

I apologize for the problems you had related to your service call, and I wish I had a great reason as to why things happened. However in your case it looks like we just dropped the ball on this one which is by no means an excuse. I'm refunding you charge for the 2nd service call as that should have been warrantied regardless of the fact is was outside our normal 30 day warranty on labor. The issue with Rebit is one we just have really started seeing and any client of ours who is on that software will be warrantied for that fix in the future. It is always tough as the software bugs are out of our control, but we stand behind our work and I do not want anyone to become frustrated, and rightfully so, over computer issues for a program we installed. I hope you'll consider using us again so we can prove to you that this was the exception and not our normal way of doing business. You should be seeing your refund issued in the next couple of days. I'm also sending you a gift card for one free hour of service. We thank you for your business and hope we can continue to serve you in the future.

I was very pleased with the result, as I had expected that I might lose some or all my data. I was very pleased with the knowledge, capability, and helpful attitude of the representative who performed the work and provided me with specific procedures and phone assistance in accessing the salvaged data from my replacement computer.
Description of Work: Representative analyzed computer failure to start up and/or access the internal hard drive. Computer was several years old, and due to be replaced, so representative enabled me to save all my data on the old drive by physically removing the drive from the computer and reinstalling it into a separate enclosure, enabling it to be connected and accessed like an external secondary drive from my new replacement computer via USB connection.

Description of Work: Laptop Installed new virus protection and fire walls. Cleaned everything (defragmented, etc) Showed me what to do on lap top with minor problems when typing and cursor skipping everywhere, (bascially a operator error). installed new virus protection that was free and if you want to upgrade can go online and do so. So far so good. The protection system I had was taking up too much room . Desk top some kind of tube things (as you can tell I am a real computer geek) were leaking, he showed us and there was no doubt , bulging and leaking . Suggested we get everything on there downloaded to our external hard drive before it went out completely. We asked lots of questions and he seemed to be very knowledgable. Hopefully I have read enough and so has my husband to understand if we are being totally BS'sed. But we have used this company before ( taken the unit to them to work on when we got a virus) to add memory and do some other things add USB ports etc and were very pleased with their work, efficiency, knowledge and suggestions. So far so good. We have used them two or three times in the last 3 or 4 years. First time had someone come to the house. Timely and very professional. Can't seem to locat the paperwork so not totally sure if it was June or July and the price was $100 or maybe a bit more but whatever the hourly rate was . There were no surprises in the charges, we knew what to expect and that is what it was. Bottom line we like this company and have no quarrels or problems with them.

They are very professional. They come in and they don’t waste any time. They listen to you. They work by time. So, however long they are it takes them to solve whatever problem you have, it is how they bill you. They are very good about billing you according to how much time they work. I think that they are little expensive. They come to your house or you can also take your product to their location.

Technician Matt Murphy came even earlier than expected (I received a call asking if that was okay). He found the problem in the anti-virus program; got rid of all the problems caused by it; explained several different anti-virus programs I could use; I selected the one I wanted and he installed it immediately. My computer has not run this good in years. Matt was fun to work with and he explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. He made sure I understood the new software he loaded; and he answerd all my questions. I've already recommended him and this company to a friend of mine who is having problems with her computer. I felt the price was very fair for the amount of work done. I am completely satisfied.

After a comprehensive diagnostic on both computers, we learned that my husband's PC was about to fail. Mine, on the other hand, is now performing better than ever. A lot of unnecessary stuff was removed, a new very inexpensive virus protector was installed on our two PCs and our laptop, and a new back up system was recommended. We have a couple of recommendations for replacing my husband's computer which we will do right after Christmas. Our networking system had stopped and the technician fixed that. We intend to subscribe to their monthly service. This is a highly competent company--from the person who answers the phone to the in-house support people to the house-call technician. We feel like we have finally found--after several years of picking the wrong person--our perfect solution. They deliver and the price is worth it.

They were really good. The price he charged was good. They were able to do the work and did not give any excuses. They stayed open late for me. They could not recover the complete data though. They gave a lot of information as well.
Description of Work: I used PC House Call twice. They don’t do home calls, and I had to take my computer to them. I have an old iMac and most people do not know how to fix it. It had crashed and he was able to recover data from the hard drive and put it on the DVD.

Description of Work: Computer picked up a virus which I could not remove. I called their office that afternoon and within 30 minutes they had dispatched a technician. The Tech promptly diagnosed my problem and located it and removed. Did additional overall cleanup for me and installed a new anti virus program for me. Was courteous and answered all my questions. Dustin Strain was diligent in locating the issue (which our internet provider had misdiagnosed). And was patient with me even though I didn't know a lot of the necessary password information! He answered my questions in a manner I could understand and was willing to explain as much or as little as I wanted to know. He reprogrammed our system to make it easier to access the wireless internet in case we have future issues.
Description of Work: Diagnose issue with the wireless internet; replace router; connected all other computers to wireless (he was willing to explain how to do this or he offered to do this himself - which is the option I chose - but I appreciated that he was offering me a chance to save extra labor expense).

After speaking with Ryan on the phone i can tell that they were great at communicating what was going on with the computer and their expertise in computers was evident. I inititally dropped off the CPU at the office in Richardson for a diagnostic and they solved some problems there but it really was a situation where they had to bring it back home to finish the job so they scheduled me with Khan from 1-3. *It would have been nice to know that the window of time alotted is a window of arrival time, not just work time. **My time stamp shows the concierge called at 2:20 with his arrival. He promply started once he arrived and finished at 3:30 but the final invoice reflected his start time as 1:50 and finish time at 3:33.
Description of Work: They cleaned some bugs that were in the system, solved the mystery of multiple restarts/day due to heat sink overheating. They connected all peripherals including wireless printer (Installed the latest wireless drivers and re-established network connection to the existing wireless). Installed antivirusware Avira.

The 1:50PM you mentioned was the "received" time for your request as you had called in on 11/3/10 at 1:50PM which is when our system logged the service ticket. The final invoice reflected 1 hour and fifteen minutes (fifteen minutes being our billing increment. I found out my laptop had a virus on a Saturday that prevented me from opening any programs or opening my web browser and also prompted me to purchase some ani-virus software. Luckily I researched the situation on my other computer to find out this was a virus trying to steal my information. I found PC-House Call on Angies List and gave them a call on Saturday morning - they provided me the option of bringing the computer in or having someone come out to my house. They were booked on Saturday already, so I setup an appointment for one of their techs to come to my house Monday evening. They provided a 2 hour window and the tech called 30 minutes ahead to let me know he was on the way. Nathan arrived Monday evening and after I gave him the background, he quickly went to work. About 1 hour later, the virus was completely removed and he went through my start programs to see if we could further improve the performance of the laptop. And finally, he changed the settings on my wireless printer which had been dropping from the wireless network - to a static IP address. Nathan was very professional and efficient. This was the first time I have used such a company and it went as well as anyone could expect. Nathan then gave me some advice on some other questions I had about upgrading to Windows 7, NAS equipment and computer performance - I will not hesitate to call PC-House Call to assist with these future setups and/or issues I have.

The company called and told me when the tech was on his way. Allen Woodrum was courteous (made eye contact and shook my hand when I answered the door) and was very time efficient. In advance of his arrival I had unboxed the machine and had removed all the plastic and other packaging material and had it sitting on my dining room table. He had no difficulty getting it connected to my wireless home network which is via an ATT Uverse 2 Wire modem. He tested with me the printing, copying and scanning features and set up a folder on my desktop to make it easy to find any scanned documents. He also explained to me the difference between image and OCR scans. Because he finished this quickly I used the rest of my time to have him check to see if anything unnecessary was slowing down the startup of my computer. He quickly found two programs to turn off so that they don't open every time the computer is started, but are still available if I need them. He then showed me how to copy music from a CD to my computer, and how to "burn" a CD (yes, I'm one of those people who STILL didn't know how to do that....) When I pay for a service by the hour I want someone knowledgeable and time efficient, as well as personable. I got all three and will definitely use this service again, and will ask for Allen.
Description of Work: I called this company to come out and set up a Brother wireless laser printer that also scans, copies and faxes (model MFC-7840w). I had read online that some people who had purchased this device had a hard time getting the wireless feature to work so I decided it was worth it to me to pay someone to do it for me.

I called this morning to get assistance with a Microsoft Outlook problem. My computer was freezing up whenever Outlook was accessed. The receptionist who answered my call suggested that Jimmie could likely fix the problam by remote access. He called me in about 45 minutes, diagnosed the problem as being related to the Kaspersky anti-virus software, and restored my Outlook application by installing the correct version of Kaspersky and removing unnecessary programs. I am very satisfied, and think the price is quite reasonable.

They sent someone almost immediately. Not only did the tech do what I asked, he performed several maintenance checks and updates that improved the performance of my computer. He did it very quickly, was obviously very knowledgeable, and answered all my questions in language I could understand.

I called him about an unrelated matter and he answered my question in like thirty seconds and they were able to resolve another matter. The service is great. I didn’t want a major corporation for the repair job. I wanted someone who worked independently and was accountable. They had to order for the power supply, so the person from PC House Call came home, twice. I had to pay him twice for both the house calls he made. He was pretty quick. PC House Call was good; I would use them again in a heartbeat.

It did not go well. It took way too long to get someone to come out...then they called that they would need to come a different day...then they were quite late when they finally managed to come at all...then the service tech had a sour attitude...spent hours working on the laptop...wouldn't communicate when I asked what he was doing...he just kept saying "checking", "running programs", etc...and then finally told me I'd need to call Sony to get the problem fixed and left me a large bill...for nothing! I did get Sony and over the phone they did more that PC House Calls...and then sent someone out. The laptop still wasn't working correctly though and I am so happy to have found PC Momma on your site...she was perfectly incredible. This was not the first bad experience I had with this company...I've used them for several years and have gotten increasingly frustrated with their long wait times, slowness upon arrival, late arrivals, and seeming total incompetence...incredible.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your service call. I have reviewed the notes from the technician to see what transpired. According to your review you stated you spent $250 with us. I'm only showing that we charged you the hour minimum for the onsite visit. Your original call was due to the computer and/or programs crashing and the technician noted that your system had dead USB ports on one side and failing USB ports on the other side. He also ran some additional tests and the final determination was that the motherboard was failing. Your system was under warranty so the technician noted he left you with Sony's information to get the motherboard replaced. Normally we offer to the client if they would like for us to contact the manufacturer directly while onsite and arrange for replacement so please let me know if this was not offered to you. Again, I'm sorry you had an experience with us that you were not happy with, but I don't think there's much else we could do with a system with a failing motherboard.

Description of Work: Our desktop computer had a virus. We called PC House Call after consulting the list, and scheduled an appointment between 9am and 11am. Allen arrived shortly after 9. He spent almost 2 hours purging our operating system of malware and installed a better virus protection system (about $70 of the total, can be installed on three computers).
