M. G. Welding & Fences

Marvin of MG Welding had fabricated our entry gates. We then had stone masons do quite a bit of work on the posts and columns and I had acquired gate opening hardware but needed some custom mounting brackets and assemblies to mount the gate motors. Marvin came out with an array of equipment and steel plate, pipe and fasteners and we designed a methodology of mounting the openers. Marvin then fabricated the mounting hardware and we installed it on one of the hottest days of the year. Despite the heat the installation went very smoothly and the gates now function perfectly.

Marvin came out, we discussed the new property gate and entry way, Marvin took measurements, showed me pictures of other work and created an accurate description of what we wanted. He wrote me the next day with a detailed estimate which I discussed with him and accepted. A week later, he came out with the finished gate and fencing and did the installation. I will definitely have him come back out for some help with the gate openers once the other contractors are done with stone and other fencing.

Provider did not recommend a local company and no prices were discussed.

Called, visited and reviewed many metal workers. I spent a fair share of time in looking for someone to give our backyard covered patio a facelift. To do away with the wood railing and install wrought iron has been something my wife and I have been hoping for. I went to the extent of visiting Triple-S Steel to price the material, but when dealing with metal, welding pieces together, and the craftmanship that comes with it, I see why estimates were so high. Most contacts were at $80 a foot and up. Franchised business were alot higher than that. But...I also figured out that franchised businesses subcontract to mom and pop businesses. MG Welding (Marvin Galan) was my 6th contact and good thing he returned my call because I almost went with Oscars Welding which was another bang for my buck possibility. With Oscars welding, I dropped off the sketch of work we were interested in having done. Mr. Galan came for a home visit to see the area and we discussed the details. Mr. Galan made suggestions we hadn't even considered and when he gave us the price, we were sold. He beat Oscars by $1K and his work reflects his image of personality. Very satisfied with the work. If any of my Riverstone at Alamo Ranch community neighbors are checking reviews here. I doubt you'll find someone to provide both quality and an unbeatable price. Each job differs based on amount of work and style. Our cost at $1500 for 28 linear foot of railing was very reasonable for us.

My Angieslist Monthly carried his ad. I called him and he came over in 1 hour. I explained what I wanted and he gave me a quote that I thought was reasonable. We agreed to do business and he made the gate to my specs. It is beautiful. Marvin and his helper installed it and we're very pleased. Marvin is polite, thoughtful and thorough... a pleasure to do business with. From beginning to finished product to 1 week.

I had an issue with a gate that was sticking. Marvin is a small business owner and handles his own schedule. It took a couple of calls to coordinate the appointment, but it all came together perfectly. Marvin stayed in touch and showed up as promised. He applied an elementary solution before proceeding to a more elaborate one which he explained might be necessary...and it worked. A simple grinding at the sticking point resolved the issue quickly. His work was honest and straightforward. I found the charge very reasonable.

Marvin was friendly and courteous when he came out and provided an estimate. He was easy to communicate with via phone and text message. However, he was late in meeting me at the house on my lunch hour and I eventually had to return to work and couldn't wait on him. When I came home, the work was complete and he went over everything with me and explained what he he had done.

My husband drew plans for some railings we wanted for our front porch. We got three estimates and M.G. was by far the best price. The railings came out exactly the way we had hoped they would. Excellent work!!!! We will most definitely use them again when we are ready for our gate.

Marvin was great. He was really busy at the time but he was able to fit us in. We had a fairly small job and nobody else in welding even returned my calls, but Marvin not only answered my emails and his phone when I called, he immediately said that no job was too small. That won my loyalty immediately. It can be frustrating to get a job done when people consider your job too small, but Marvin did not think my job was not worth his time. He did exactly what I asked for at a very reasonable price. The railing looked great and I was very grateful that it was secured. He even had me try to shake the railing to show me how secure he made it. He also did a little extra job without charging. I wanted the ornate scroll at the bottom of the railing removed so it would look more modernized. He said it was no big deal. Now that is good customer service. You rarely hear that anymore unless someone wants your business. I definitely recommend Marvin for small jobs, but if his quality is any indication, he would be great for big jobs, too.

It went GREAT. Mr Galan came the day after I contacted him, was very professional and the cost was very reasonable. My gate now works and repair has been completed on my fence. The cost was much more reasonable than I paid before and the quality of work is perfect.

From start to finish, Marvin was a complete professional. He always was early for appointments, helped us to understand all of the available options, and made us feel completely comfortable about the gate prior to installation. On the actual days he had to come to install the gate, we was able to successfully coordinate with other contractors who were pouring the driveway and did a fantastic job of completing the job. The gate worked perfectly and looked amazing. Two years later, it's still functioning just as flawlessly as ever. i would not hesitate for a second to recommend Marvin for any kind of ironwork. He's one of the best contractors we ever found on Angie's List.

It went really well. Marvin came out and inspected the gate then returned to perform the repairs later in the week. He did a really good job and we will definitely use his services going forward. He was very upfront about the work that needed to be done and very fair on pricing compared to other quotes we received.

Provider showed up as promised and constructed the fence in the time estimated. Thoroughly professional with a first rate job. We are very pleased with having contracted with this company for the work.

Mr. Galan had previously made a 36 foot wrought iron rail for the back of my house. He also repaired the the gate of my wrought iron fence. We have owned the home for a year and a half and have made several inquiries regarding the painting of the fence. On the surface, the painting of a fence seems fairly straight forward, until the length is mentioned. I simply could not find anyone that was interested. The price was not a factor, no one wanted the job. While I was talking with Mr. Galvin I mentioned that I was planning to get the fence painted when I could find someone to do the work. After several conversations, he agreed to do the work. He said, 'In order to do this right we have to use a chemical to remove the rust, then power wash the entire fence. After that we will make any repairs and then prime with a commerical primer. When that is dry we will spray it with a commerical fence paint.' The fence is 467 feet long, six feet high, with an electrical gate. Having read the above, what do you think I was thinking about all the work that had to be done? If you guessed, 'a lot of work, there has to be some short cuts, etc., you'd be right. It took parts of two days to treat the fence with the chemical, another day (two workers) to power wash, and several days to prime and paint. The work was excellent and I am pleased. It is refreshing to find a contractor who actually knows what they are doing and does it. I would use Mr. Galvan again without any reservation.

marvin came out, was very detailed, and frankly we were ready to go with his services in the end, because of our budget and the ability of another contractor to talk us into a different path -- we didn't use him we should have, the gate we have now is unstable and needs fixing marvin knows his stuff, has his own rig, and is a straight shooter learn from my mistake, hire him

Great work.....completed within10 days...even allowing for a rain day or two. Would definitely use this contractor again and highly recommend.

I scheduled a time for Marvin to come out, and stayed home from work at the time he stated. He never showed, and when I called at the end of the requested appointment time - he said that his truck had broken down and would come out later to provide a quote. He never called to let me know that he wasn't coming, and then he never provided me the promised quote. At no time did he ever tell me to look for another contractor, because he was too busy - so don't believe the excuses he's provided as to why he didn't show for other F ratings. Do not waste your time in calling this guy.

This company is provided poor service out of the gate. I am completely confused on how they were able to have a A review when we can't even get a call back. We have tried to call the welder 4 times and two times he said he would call back and two times we had to leave a message and he never called us back.

I found Mr. Galan through Angie's List. When I called he said he'd be out the next day, and he was. I had drawn the railing that I desired. Mr. Galan showed us several phots's of previous work he had done. After looking at the many pictures, I decided that he knew much more about what he was doing than I did. We decided on something close to one of his pictures. He gave me a written estimate (which was under what I had guessed it would be) and said he'd call when it was ready. Two days later he called and said it was ready. He and his helper worked about four hours, firmly mounting the rail onto the concrete and welding the pieces together. As I have stated in other Angie's List reviews, I am a skeptic. Mr. Galan's reviews were great...and that is because his work is execptional. If one is not pleased with his work I am in serious doubt that person could ever be pleased. He cleaned the area, touched up the welds, and proceeded to repair my fence. I plan to use MG Welding again as I can't imagine finding a craftsman as good as Mr. Galan.

Marvin Galan was very responsive and professional in offering a full bid. I have no doubt he would have built an excellent wrought iron fence for my property.

I called Mr. Galan on mon. july 21 to come look at some gates that needed some fixing and some additional hardware to be attached. He showed up the next morning like he indicated and proceeded to start and finish the job the same day. He was very professional, did everything he said he would do for the price agreed upon. We are very pleased with his work and will be using him again for other projects planned for our property.

The work went pretty much as expected. Marvin is very cooperative and interested in satisfying the customer.

Terrible. Very disappointing. I first called on June 16, 2014, he said he would arrive at 4pm on June 18. Did not show up. Called him the following Monday, June 23, and left a message. No return phone call. I will be having someone else fix my wrought iron fence. Don't understand the number of positive reviews this company received, I guess I just drew the short straw.

Marvin was very quick to return my call. Made arrangements to come out to the house promptly. I covered all the areas we needed fixing and he addressed them all for under $300. The work was professional and quick. He also volunteered to remove some aged iron railing the previous owner of our house stacked up in our yard. Very happy with the service and would recommend Marvin for any iron fence repair.

Punctual and effective! My gate was not closing properly, so I chose M G Welding based on Angie's List Reviews. The experience exceeded my expectations -- Mr. Galan came exactly when he said he would (same day service!), and fixed my problem on the spot. He even offered to paint the areas he welded -- without me needing to ask. I will certainly use this provider again without any question!
