I have seen Marvin's work from a friend of mine and noticed he was also on Angie's List. The quality of work at my friend's place of business was phenomenal. Spiral staircase with intricate design and I was informed that it was a reasonable price. For what I needed was not too complex compared to my friends so I was referred. Marvin and I spoke than decided to meet on property to come up with a design and function of my gate. This will be the first iron gate I ever involved in building so I was clueless on the steps and functionality of what was possible. Marvin was patient and heard my ideas than helped guide my decisions with pictures and drawings. Once we confirmed the design, Marvin gave me an estimate time of starting the project and completion. He had to cut through my concrete driveway and set heavy duty post for my gate. Another day the gate was installed. It was painless and fast. He started the project on the date promised and completed before the time he said. He mentioned it is easier to under promise than to over promise and under deliver. Once the gate was completed and I paid him. He followed up to ask about the function of the gate and if I was happy. I truly appreciated Marvin's professionalism and patience in working with me. In some cases, I find contractors jump to conclusions or force suggestions because of their lack of patience. Marvin took me by surprise as he was more than patient and gave me the time I needed to feel comfortable on my purchase. Especially for the fact I had no clue at step 1. It was a lot easier than I expected and I plan to hire Marvin for other projects. His work ethic, craftsmanship and price is worth coming up with projects to hire him on. I don't know too many contractors now in days that I can say that about, besides my grandfather.

Marvin came as scheduled and on time. the first day he spent preping the wrought iron and did the acutal painting the next day. Marvin was very friendly and did a professional job on my fence. It now looks like a brand new fence. Thank you Marvin.

I don't like writing negative reviews, but in this case Angie's List request a review so I'll oblige. The problem began with a selection of the paint color. Both through viewing the partial painting job, communication with the paint store who sold the paint to WG Welding, I was convinced that MG knew they were not using the paint I had requested. I've tried to surmise why, but frankly I can't figure it out. In addition, there was overspray on my rock columns, and on the asphalt, and much of the railing in the fence panels was thinly painted.

Marvin came out for the estimate on time, and was very thorough in his discussion to determine exactly what was needed. He submitted an estimate right away. He was called out again to clarify some minor things that we needed. Started the work right away and was finished within two weeks. Awesome customer service and very quick responses. The prices were very good and the quality was very high. I would use Marvin again and recommend him highly.

Overall it was way beyond my expectations and Marvin did a great job. I didn't expect him to send anyone that evening, but he did. The technician was very professional and polite. To me, the cost was minimal in comparison to what others would have charged. Just to get someone to come to Bulverde on a moments notice would probably be a service charge plus the repair charge.

In the end, I lost faith in Marvin and did not feel like I could trust him to do the work as defined in the Big Deal. I called Marvin prior to paying for the Big Deal to confirm that my metal fence (steel) would qualify for the Big Deal since the terms used in the deal were “Wrought Iron Fence” and “Iron Fences”. Marvin asked me questions about how much rust was on my fence and long the fence was. I answered his questions, but I couldn’t get Marvin to say whether or not my fence would qualify for the deal. I finally asked him to confirm, “YES” or “NO” whether his deal covered my fence. He finally said “YES”, so I went ahead and paid Angie’s to get the Big Deal. I called Marvin on 1/19 or 1/20 (weekend) and left a voice mail informing him that I had paid for the $299 fence special and provided my contact info. Marvin came out to my property unannounced on Monday, 1/21 to look at the fence. I began to get uneasy when Marvin spent more time telling me what he wouldn’t do as part of the special. His verbally quoting of the terms of the deal kept varying with respect to what work he would do. He did a rolling measurement of the fence and we agreed it was 114’ and that I would pay him $8 per foot for the extra 14 linear feet of fence. (Marvin originally told me the extra 14’ would cost $12/ft, but I reminded Marvin that the deal said this service was normally priced at $8/ft. Marvin then said “OK, $8 per foot”.) Marvin said he would rent a power washer and be back on Monday, 1/28 to begin work. Marvin asked if someone would be here and stated that he would need access to both sides of the fence. I confirmed both would happen. Marvin didn’t show or call on 1/28. Finally, on Friday, 2/1, Marvin showed up unannounced at my gate at approx. 5:00 PM. Marvin said he was planning on coming back on Monday, 2/4 to start the job with pressure washing. When asked why he didn’t come out on Monday, 1/28, he offered two difference explanations. I pointed out to him that I had worked all last weekend (1/26 & 1/27) clearing all dirt and debris from around the bottom of the fence in anticipation of him beginning the work on 1/28. Marvin made an issue of how far away the nearest water facet was. He said he would have to get 500’ of hose to reach. I told him it was approx. 120’. I could go on and on, but let’s just say it became a very convoluted and uncomfortable conversation. Marvin clearly did not want to do just the Big Deal service. In fact, he talked about how he lost money on these Angie’s List deals. Marvin spun a long tale of conflict he had with a woman over one of these Angie’s List fence specials. He talked of threating to back out of the deal himself, then offering her the option of backing out, and as the story kept going on, I couldn’t tell if he was referring to the other job, or he was intending his message for me. He finally did say that he painted the woman’s fence and she paid him for extra fence painting and repairs not covered by the deal. Trying to arrive at a definitive understanding of the details of the services to be performed by Marvin was difficult. For example, when I tried to confirm that the fence would be primed prior to painting, Marvin said the terms of the deal was “priming as needed”. I disagreed and said that the deal terms said the fence would be primed before painting. (The deal states “Applying Primer Coat”) It became more of Marvin telling me what he wasn’t going to do. I asked Marvin about some specific repair work, but I thought his bid was too high. When I asked if he would do the work for less, he said I should hire someone else to do it, or do it myself. Since he did not say “NO” to doing the work for less, I asked again. I got the same answer again. Marvin pointed out that the deal did not include painting the brackets attached to the fence that the gate rolls on. I thought, heck they are in such close proximity to the fence that the over-spray (Marvin had indicated that he intended to spray paint) will cover them. After contemplating the whole situation, I feel uncomfortable proceeding with Marvin. Therefore, I am asking that my $299 be refunded.

Marvin is very professional and did a great job in restoring about 50 feet of wrought iron fencing that is mounted on top of a stone wall of the same length. I've owned this house for about 4 years and the house is about 18 years old, I don't know how long the wrought iron fence has been in place but I knew that I had to get to work and clean the rust and there were also some loose pickets that needed welding. This was NOT a job I was looking forward to so when I saw the Big Deal I jumped on it. Marvin and his helper were on time and worked all day cleaning and re-welding those loose pickets and joints. He painted the fence with a Sherwin Williams Semi Gloss because he says that it is the best paint for this type of out door fence. I was very impressed with the work completed that I asked him if he could make me two wrought iron gates for the wall. This wall has two openings, one on either side of the house that never had the gates built to finish off the front of the house. It always bugged me because it looked like the house was missing teeth. Marvin took the measurements and returned today to install the gates. The workmanship is excellent and the installation went smoothly. Now the house has a 'full' set of teeth. As a side note;this house was previously owned by a dentist...you think he would want to complete the front. I believe the pricing was fair considering the amount of work to build the gates and install them. I would highly recommend this company.

I purchased an "Big Deal" from Angie's List to refurbish my cast iron front gate and fence. Despite e-mails and telephone calls to this company, it took almost 2 weeks and intervention from Angie's List to get them to respond. If they're that hard to contact, I doubt they will be any easier to communicate with if there is a problem once the work is completed. I have no faith in this company and therefore canceled the work before it was performed. Angie's List helpfully got me a full refund.

Called. Responded immediately. Came on date expected and completed the job in three days as predicted. Very professional.

Mr Galan came to my house to give me an estimate to re-do my small wrought iron fence. After speaking, it was decided it would not be cost effective to do what I wanted. I found Mr. Galan very knowledgable and he gave me some great advice. I would definitely use his expertise in the future.

It could be a waste of time if you have to arrange time off from work to have these guys come out.

Marvin was able t take my drawings and customize my design into a beautiful and very well built porch/stair railing system. He was extremely personable and friendly. He worked hard and got the job done in a timely and efficient manner. He is on my top 10 list of subs that were used to build my home. His company definitely belongs on Angie's List.

I found Marvin from Service Magic. He was one of three contractors that I contacted. He came out, bid the job, all on time & date he said he would come. We agreed to do the job and he said it would return in 10 days or so to start which he did. He completed the job within the time period he said. the gate works and looks perfect. I could not be happier. His price was appropriate for the job he did. He will be the contractor I call first next time I need wrought iron work. The Gate he installed across my driveway works perfect!!!
