He was a real nice guy, but the problem was in the shower stall and he said he didn't do that type of work. He was punctual but I couldn't use him because I needed one person to do the job and if I chose him I would have had to have two different contractors for the work.

Entire procedure and resulting color change are great. Awful red/brown grout lines are gone and we now have beautiful clean and clear floors that belongs in 2011 and not 1981.Time, cost, and results were all as the GROUT DOCTOR had promised.
Description of Work: Stained (changed color) of all grout lines in floor surfaces of kitchen, two baths, and utility room. Ken and crew initially cleaned and prepared all grout lines for the staining process. The cleaning, color change, dry time, and clean up took about 8 hours.

The response after the initial call was quick to set up an appointment for an estimate. A date and approximate time was set to do the actual work and that occured as promised. I was very pleased with the results and the professionalism. I would not hesitate to use this company again.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced grout in the walk-in shower where it was cracked along the bottom sides of the shower pan and up one corner of the shower stall. Also, enlarged the cutout for the shower diverter which was too small and prevented removal of the diverter for repair/replacement.

Several months ago I noticed that the carpet in the shower room had become damp. I dried it and it stayed that way for a week when it became wet again. Once again I dried it and forgot about it. When it happened for the third time I tore the carpet up and let the shower run to see if I could spot the leak. I assumed it was a slab leak and called American Leak Detection to have them come out and pin down the leak. We scheduled a visit for three days from the call. The next day I decided to do some more detective work and pulled up the carpet and ran the shower again. This time I moved the shower head to all quadrants and noticed water streaming out under the shower from one area where the grout and and caulk were cosmetically disfigured and it became obvious that water was able to seep through. I cancelled the American Leak Detection visit and called The Grout Doctor on Thursday. Ken Powell called me on Friday and I explained the problem. He told me he'd come out Saturday and give me an estimate. He arrived on time and we were so impressed with him that my wife decided to have him clean and seal the kitchen floor and grout. It's a large kitchen and includes a tiled utility room. The shower is a large walk-in shower and was certainly in need of a lot of repair to the grout and caulk. Ken gave me a very fair estimate which was made even better with an Angie's List discount coupon. Ken gave me the exact course of action and time line and the work was to start Monday and finish Wednesday with Tuesday a day for the shower to dry. After that everything went according to plan and Ken finished around noon on Wed. Ken is one of the best contractors I have had the pleasure of dealing with since becoming an Angie's list subscriber. A perfect gentleman who insures that his employees (not contract labor) but employees are top notch. Collin, the young man who did the floors and part of the shower was an absolute joy. As I write this the shower is drying and will be useable on Friday evening. I look forward to it.
Description of Work: What I thought was a slab leak in the shower area turned out to be grout that was cracked and allowing water to seep under the shower and out onto the floor. Ken Powell responded to my call within 24 hours and came out on a Saturday to give me an estimate for repair. While he was here my wife asked for an estimate on cleaning and sealing the kitchen floor/grout. Ken gave me an estimate and I accepted with the work to start the following Monday. Collin, a fantastic associate of Ken, came out Monday and finished the kitchen, cleaning and sealing the floor and grout and then went to work fixing the grout and caulk in the master bath shower. He finished up most of it and said that Ken would be out to finish the job on Wed as it needed time to dry. Ken came out on schedule and finished up. Collin and Ken kept us informed and showed us the progress they were making at each step. The job was completed on schedule and except for a clean floor and a fixed shower you'd never know they were here.

The technician who came to do the work did a great job and completed the job within the timeframe that the owner and I had agreed on. Both the owner and technician were friendly, polite, and professional. At the end of the job, the technician made sure that everything was cleaned up. I gave them a B for Punctuality because the owner arrived to estimate the job about 20 minutes after the 2-hour window that he had given me and the technician showed up about 20 minutes after the half-hour window that we agreed on. I'd definitely use them again.

Made an appointment for a free estimate. Very easy to schedule even though I was a little further than most of his customers. He was very professional during the estimate procedure and I felt comfortable with him. I had already looked on Angies list and it seemed he would work out. The estimate seemed reasonable for the 3 areas I wanted work on. I was going out of town the next week so I told him I would let him know. He offered to have a man come the next day if that worked for me. The worker arrived as scheduled and was also very professional. He told me what he was going to do and gave me an aproximate finish time. Everything cooperated and he finished on time. He continuosly kept the work area clean and I am happy. I will probably use him again at some point and would certainly reccommend

I purchased the $15 for $75 GroupOn deal that The Grout Doctor had. I went online to schedule an estimate, after which I was promptly called back within the hour. Everything was pleasant until we started discussing the GroupOn. I understood it's for $70 worth of service and I'll pay the difference, but what surprised me was that a shower regrout would cost $325! That is means to regrout the 4'x4' showe pan (not entire shower) would cost their standard $325 - $75 + $15 (I already paid) = $275. When I explained that the service I needed only meant regrouting only the line between the shower pan and the tile which should be way less than $270, I was told that there's a minimum service fee of $290 and they wouldn't do a job for less than that! That is very upsetting as it was not mentioned anywhere on their website or the GroupOn deal and feels more like a bait & switch (should've been marked as $230 for $290 worth of work)! I've already contacted GroupOn for a refund and has soured me from thinking of these guys in the future if I ever need work done.

The reason that I gave a B on promptness is that it took over 24 hours for someone to return my initial call, and the technician always arrived after the 9:00-9:30am window that I was given. But they were very friendly and eager to please so I wouldn't hold that against them. The first day (Thursday), the technician worked all day, first removing the bad grout and caulk, then removing damaged tile. The tile didn't always cooperate and some undamaged tiles broke, increasing the number to be replaced. Also, the wallboard behind the tile sometimes came off with the damaged tile, requiring patches. He ran out of time and said that it would be finished the following day. That evening, I noticed that the new tile didn't quite match the color of the original and wasn't flush with the others. The next day Ken looked at it and agreed that it wasn't as it should be. He offered to come out the following day but I had plans so he said someone would be out Monday morning. On Monday, the patched wallboard was replaced with a thinner board. Ken checked with the tile manufacturer and discovered that my tile had been discontinued 10 years ago, shortly after the house was built, and the closest tile was a bit creamer in color. I opted to go with it anyway rather than have to replace all the tile. It was done by mid afternoon and looks good. Despite the fact that it wasn't as quick and simple as I would have liked, I was impressed with their desire to make sure that I was pleased with the result. A word of warning to anyone else who has this done - everything in the room will end up covered with white grout powder. That's just what happens when they grind out the old grout. Be prepared to thoroughly clean the entire room after it's complete.
Description of Work: The shower had badly cracked and mildewed grout in the corner and between the tile and the shower pan. One existing tile was cracked and others were chipped, probably when originally installed. The shower had begun to leak out onto the bathroom floor. Ken Powell came out and gave me an estimate for replacing the damaged tile and regrouting the shower, plus another estimate for simply replacing all the existing tile and fiberglass shower pan. I took the less expensive option ($400 for regrouting plus $150 for replacing damaged tile as opposed to $1500 for all new tile and tiled shower floor.) He adjusted his schedule so that they could start the next day. Complications kept them from finishing that day but they kept at it until I was pleased with the result.

From start to finish it was a great experience. I do not like to have workers in my home. He arrived on time, worked straight through until the job was finished. It took nearly all day and he took only one short break and while I was concerned that he didn't take a lunch break I appreciated the fact that he worked constantly until the job was complete.
Description of Work: After receiving an estimate I had a complete understanding of what would be done to the white bathroom tile. They even explained to me why some of the tiles looked worse than others by pointing out that the tiles in the white shower had been laid incorrectly. If I had not been told that I would not have understood why these specific tiles would remain looking as they did unless the tiles were completely removed. I choose not to have any tiles removed. After the job was finished, in one day, I was shocked and surprised at how clean and pretty the whole bathroom looked. I am really pleased with the job. So, make sure you understand the process they use, what you can expect with poorly laid tiles. Ask questions! I especially liked the fact that there is no harsh chemical smell to this process.

Mr Powell come to give me the initial estimate. Normally, I get at least 3 estimates for a job, but I could tell his estimate was more than fair. He explained the process throughly and gave me several tips on how to keep my stone and grout looking brand new. His crew was very friendly and mindful of the home. My family and a house guest were all home that day and felt very comfortable through the process. Mr. Powell came by after this job was finished to check on a concern I had. He explained that sometimes a wax is put on new granite by the installers to make it shine. He personally came out the following day to remove the wax build up that remained after the granite was sealed. I would give an A+ from the first phone call through the final trip made out by the owner.

Workers arrived 30minutes late. However; they were very apologetic and got right to work. When a question came p they came and got me. While talking they turned off fans so we could hear each other without prompting. They were also kind and friendly to my overly curious cats. At the end of the job they showed me the work and confirmed with me that I though it looked good. They also explained the proper care and drying time for the grout to set properly. Overall, they were professional in appearance and manner, did excellent work, and discounted the price using a coupon that I obtained between the time I was quoted the job and the completion of the job. I would highly recommend this company.

I need to mention first that if you have an immediate repair, call Grout Dr. first! Ken does not schedule work out any longer than 3 weeks. This allows Ken and his team to support those customers that have an immediate need or emergency. Grout Dr. was my fifth call for this work from Angie's List. The first four were booked solid for a month to two months on big jobs. As that is fantastic for them, for someone in my position that had a small immediate repair (so I thought) this was no help. So, make Grout Dr. your first call if you need it done NOW! In regards to the project, I could not ask for more honest, friendly and talented people. Ken came out over a holiday weekend to provide me an estimate. He thoroughly explained the situation, the steps of the process and what to expect. His team arrived promptly as promised, prepared the site well and went right to work. By noon, they had realized the job was not a repair but was bigger. They stopped, called Ken and waited for him to arrive. Ken re-evaluated the situation, reviewed what was found and how the job would change, Ken laid out the process and we discussed price. When I saw what they had found, I was expecting 2 to 3X the price as they had to rebuild the stud infrastructure and reestablish the green wall and tiles. Ken worked with me and we came to a VERY good quote to the point that I was concerned that he was not making a profit. The team had to get additional supplies and regroup that afternoon. They came back the next day and in 3 days, the job was done, looked awesome and THEY DID NOT BREAK A SINGLE TILE!!! They reused all the original tiles from a shower that was 30 years old. AMAZING! I have recommended Ken to my neighbor as they saw Ken's car out front and asked about the work being done. They came over and saw the work at it's worse and came back at the end. They too were astounded by the craftsmanship and quality of work that had been done. I cannot recommend Ken and his team any higher. They are honest professionals which are a rare find!
Description of Work: Original call was for repair of some tiles that popped out from the wall. Once Ken's team got into, it became a rebuild due to years of dry rot and some old termite damage.

They arrived on time and were very professional from start to finish. They cleaned up after the work was done, and gave us clear instructions on how to let the grout dry, etc. There was a small area in Bath 2 where the grout bubbled and made a couple of airholes, so they came back and fixed that. They did exactly what they said they would do and did a good job.
