We had a recurring problem with the ac unit power surging And going out. Their salesman came out and told us we needed a 15k system. I called another provider who put a 200 dollar part on it and it was fine. I now have a new service provider once my prepaid contract runs out. Honesty is priceless.

The problems all started when I was promised that SE was going to reimburse me for the NEST thermostat. They would either subtract $144 from the price on a new system or cut me a check for $144. I opened the mail a week later and found an invoice rather than a check from SE. That same week I received a phone call stating that SE needed to come out and winterize my HVAC system. I told the person calling, I never purchased a system from SE and she said, "Oh, that's weird, sorry for the inconvenience" and then hung up. I then contacted SE and told them about all the probems I'm having with their company. I received an email from SE's accounting department apologizing for the accounting error and then she began questioning why I felt like they owed me a check for $144. I said, because one of your supervisors emailed me claiming he would cut me a check. She then asked if it would be better if I go through NEST rather than SE. I became irate and told her to cut me a check or I will take them to small claims court. Another two weeks went by without a refund, so I sent a formal demand via certified mail and carbon coping Angie's List. Low and behold I received my refund check a month and half after my request. If you are looking for a quality HVAC company to do business with...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! We went with A#1 Air and are extremely happy with our brand new system, the professional installation and the follow-up after the sale.
Description of Work: On August 28th, Service Experts was to show-up between the hours of 4pm and 6pm. I left ealry from work to meet the technician, but no one showed-up nor did I receive a phone call letting me know they were going to be unable to make it. When I called the next day to reschedule, I asked if I was going to be compensated for my time for the no call / no show. The person said she would check with her supervisor and get back with me. She never got back with me. The next day SE showed-up to install a NEST thermostat for my current Heating and A/C System. The service tech said that he could not install the NEST on my current system because the system I had was a two stage system and NEST only works with one stage systems. The techinician said that it was time for me to look at more efficient systems, so I went ahead and told him to give me an estimate. He called the sales person and the sales person came out and gave me an estimate on a new HVAC system.

Service Experts has been maintaining my HVAC system since the first winter I was in my house (Fall 2008). They were referred to me by a friend of mine who is a Mechanical Engineer. On Friday, Oct. 12th, 2012 during my routine bi-annual check-up, it was discovered that my 15 year old heat pump had unrepairable leaks in the coils. In addition, the fan motor on my compressor unit was leaking oil. The technician who did the maintenance inspection reported his findings to me and I decided I should probably at least repair the heat pump and possibly the compressor. The technician phoned the office for me to ask them to send a salesman and he was at my house within the hour. After discussing all the options, I decided to replace the whole system with a slightly over-sized energy star rated system that would be adequate to handle the home's HVAC needs now and in the future. (I am planning to add about 300 Sq. Ft. onto the back of the house in about 5 years and I had hoped my old unit would last until then. Unfortunately, it was necessary to replace it before then.) Since the replacement of this system was somewhat unexpected, I decided to utilize Service Experts financing. I was assured that there were no early payment penalties, so I can pay the loan off early when I have had more time to assess my financial position. The loan paperwork was completed on-line on Tuesday morning, October 16th, just as the technicians were beginning the work. It took the technicians all day to install the new unit since it was slightly larger than the old unit and only just fit into the utility closet. They custom fabricated a new transition and ran some additional wiring so that the system function that automatically switches the heat pump over to the back-up furnace was fully functional. The technicians worked all day without taking a break for lunch and I felt totally comfortable with leaving them alone in the house to work while I went in to work that afternoon. They finished up shortly after I returned home that afternoon and showed me how to use the new thermostat for the system. I have been working with Service Experts for 4 years now and I have always found them to be curteous, punctual, professional, highly knowledgable and immaculately clean. I am confident that they do business with the utmost integrity and my dealings with them have always been positive.

The quality of the work was good. They charged a lot of the freon that they had to put in the unit. I thought that was a little unreasonable. They have a somewhat bothersome follow-up. They kept calling me even after I moved out of their area.

We have a maintenance contract with Service Experts to check out our HVAC unit every 6 months. On August 6, 2012, the service technician came for the regular maintenance and our A/C was not cooling the house below 80 degrees. After cleaning the outside unit and checking over the inside unit, the tech told us that the unit should be cooling better. On August 11, 2012, I called Service Experts to let them know our unit was still not cooling the house below 80 degrees and we were expecting house guests the next week. They sent out a technician that night and he worked until 8:00 p.m. He discussed our problems with his supervisor and said he would be back out the next day (Saturday). He arrived as promised and checked everything out again. At that time we scheduled an appointment to have the coil replaced the following Tuesday. All that we spent was the regular 6 month service fee.
Description of Work: 3 ton A/C coil need to be replaced and was found to be under warranty. Work was done promptly and neatly. We appreciate Service Experts researching the warranty for our unit and working with us to get the A/C working again so that we did not have to endure the hot summer without our A/C working properly.

We discovered that our Drain Pain was leaking (and had been leaking for sometime). It was about 3:00 in the afternoon on a Sunday. I called the service line and got right through to a live person. They told me that they on-call tech would call me with a specific time they would come out. It was several hours before they called me back but he told me he would be about 10pm. Sure enough, he was there right at 10pm and had the problem fixed within 45 minutes. I had previously had ServiceExperts come out (about two months before) based on a review from AngiesList and signed up for the PlusMaintence agreement. Because we had that in place, we received 15% off the service call and no after hours charge. The only negative thing was that it took 7 hours from the first call to get someone out there but it is the middle of summer in Texas so I am sure he was more than a little busy; plus, he did show up exactly when he said he would.

We had an experience similar to some of the reviewers here where they came to do the tune-up and ended up trying to convince my wife that she needed a lot of extra repairs and service. Part of what he showed her was a rusty drip pan in one of our attic AC units that was starting to leak. In the process of demonstrating the rust damage, the tech poked a few holes in the unit, and the next day, water started leaking through our ceiling from these holes! They sent our a second tech to fix this problem and re-do the inspection. In the re-do, we discovered one of our units was freezing over, even though we had not had a problem with it until the prior inspection. Turns out they had under-filled the unit with coolant, which led to it freezing up. Stephen (cooling consultant and supervisor) came in to go over the whole list of pricing options available to me, and help with replacing the unit. The second tech and Stephen were very good. However, the same unit that was under-filled is now giving us problems. I have no idea if it is related to their prior tune-up, but the timing is odd and I don't trust them to come back to look at it a third time.

Service guy seemed very thorough and took time to explain the issues he found and possible solutions to the cooling problem. Based on this good experience, we paid by buying a service contract and we have an appointment with sales to discuss further what we might replace or redesign to fix our cooling issues.

The sales staff was very professional and explained everything to us. They called another sales person to make sure they had designed everything correctly to make sure the bid was correct. They were extremely clean and professional. They found very good financing for us. They had to bring three units up through the attic, and were so quiet. One of the reasons we selected them is because they have a comfort guarantee. When the unit didn't work as well as it should, they came back and spent four hours checking it out. They determined we needed a different unit, and replaced it within a few days at no extra charge to us. They stood by their guarantee and acted on it within a reasonable time frame. I was amazed at how well they did.

They did a good job come in and fix it, but it broke again the next year with the same exact problem. When I have it re-fixed by another company I didn't have problems with that part anymore. But then I am not really sure if it was their fault or something that just happens because of the age of the air conditioning unit maybe.

I was able to schedule my appointment easily. The technician showed up about an hour late. He wasn't sure why he was at my home and said that the dispatch doesn't always tell them what the job is. I showed him the coupon and explained why he was there. He started asking questions about how old my system was and couldn't believe that I hadn't had any major work done in 5 year. Instead of doing the tune up that I purchased, he immediately started trying to sell me other services the company offered. He wanted to get the price list out of his truck. After him being gone for 10 minutes, he was on the phone. I asked him what was going on and he started opening his price list. At that point I told him I no longer needed his services. He never even looked at my heating and A/C system.

I don’t like them at all. I had a leaky faucet outside and he repaired it, but he had done the tightening so tight that I couldn’t even turn it on. When I called them back, another fellow came out and I think the earlier person had tightened it so tight that he broke something inside. They were just terrible. I called another company and they had another guy come out and he took care of it right away for me. Their price is very high. They charged me $153 and broke my pipe. The quality of service is terrible. They did come in right way, but I had to call somebody else to fix it. I would never use them again in the future.

The motor in my fan went out. Service Experts came out to diagnose the problem. They told me they had to order the part and would return to fix the problem when the part came in. At the time when the first technician came out to diagnose the problem, I was impressed because he came out on a Sunday evening. I didn't get my AC fixed right then since they had to order a part, but that was not their fault. He ordered the part and charged me $49.99 for a service charge. I asked him if we would be charged again for a service call since his company would be making two trips out to my home and I was told that we would only pay one service call. A few days later when the part was installed, we paid for the part but also another $49.99 service charge was added in my charge. I am impressed with their work on my air conditioning unit. However, I am not impressed with their customer service after the work was completed. I called the next day to request a refund of the duplicate charge. I was told by customer service that it was "after hours" and that nobody was in their finance department to speak to me. The rep took my telephone number and was told that I would receive a call the next day by someone in their finance dept to discuss my request. I never received a call back. I gave this company about a week to follow-up, a call never came. I called this company back and again explained my problem and was told that $49.99 would be refunded back to me on my credit card. That was on 9/26/11, almost three weeks ago, and the refund has not arrived. My experience with this company is that they will fix your A/C problem, but do not count on much customer service afterward if you need something. My ratings in no way reflect the technician who came to my home, it reflects the service from the company after my A/C was repaired. I would look forward to revising this review, if and when the refund arrived, but I sincerely doubt that will happen. Think twice before using this company. ** Update ** I have updated my rating from an "F" to a "C". They did refund the duplicate $49.95 fee, I only found out about this after checking my credit card statement. A telephone call would have been nice, but I'm just happy to have the fee refunded.

I purchased a service two weeks ago. The service appointment was set to be four days ago before noon. Until 12:30 that day, no one showed up. So I called them back and was told that the technician was running late, but would contact me asap. But I haven't yet received a call from them ever since. Since I haven't received the service, and have no more interest deal with them. I asked to cancel the service with a full refund.

My Lennox Air Handler was installed February 2010. When the weather turned cold later in 2010 I had to have a technician come because the unit wasn't heating my house. Turns out the installers never connected the emergency heat. Then in April 2011 a technician came to do the spring AC tune-up. He discovered that the freon had leaked so he charged it up. Five weeks later the technician returned because the freon had leaked again. To make a long story short, during the hottest Texas summer on record the freon leaks continued. First, the leak was isolated to the condenser coil. After that was replaced, the leak was isolated to the ball valve. The next leak supposedly occurred after the ball valve was replaced because the unit was charged up with too much freon. At that point, the copper line to the outside unit had to be replaced. It didn't take long for my confidence in the technicians to waver and I have even less confidence that the installers performed a competent installation. A unit only a little over one year old should not have these issues. It makes me wonder what I'll be facing within the next five years. I started out using B&B Air Conditioning and Heating. Eventually they were consumed by Service Experts. I haven't made up my mind if I am going to stay with them.

Very unhappy with having to pay to get an idea what a condenser would cost.
