Description of Work: Walter at Capital Chimney troubleshot my ventless chimney which wouldn't stay lit. He tracked the problem down the wrong vent cap being installed by the builder. Once that was determined, he replaced it with the the correct one and now it works 100%.

Description of Work: After I bought my home 5 years ago, I noticed a leak in my fireplace during heavy rains. 2 years ago, I called a Capitol Chimney who installed a new crown. The leak did not get fixed. Walter came out a couple times to caulk the stone around the the chimney and then did not return my phone calls after several messages. Getting nowhere I decided to look at my neighbors chimneys and realized my chimney cap was sitting on the crown while theirs were up several inches. I removed the cap and found the crown was just cemented up to the cap leaving a funnel into my chimney. I now called Top Hat who completed the repairs.

Work was never performed - after initial examination (in which contractor said he needed another part), he never called back (in spite of his saying he would) re: next appointment - over the next two days, I called him back each day, to hear the same "I'll get to it today", "this afternoon", "tomorrow morning", etc. I ended up canceling - this contractor is unreliable and untrustworthy. Estimated cost was $120.

I SELL GAS LOGS BECAUSE I KNOW MY SUPPLIER IS LOCAL AND ALL THE PARTS ARE PRESENT. IT IS HARD TO FIND PARTS TO AN OFF BRAND SET OF LOGS. CUSTOMERS THINK THEY GET A GREAT DEAL BUYING WHOLESALE AND IT USUALLY COSTS MORE IN THE END. A MESSAGE WAS LEFT EXPLAINING THIS TO YOU. They arrived on time, left no mess, and was honest in the assessment of the repairs needed.

It was, hands down, the easiest repair I've ever been through. He came over 20 minutes after my first call and left me an estimate that was $500 less than what some other guys left with lots of grumbling about how hard it would be. We scheduled for this morning. He was pleasant and conscientious, he wore plastic booties when he came into the house and my dogs liked him right away. He arrived this morning and was finished in 80 minutes. The folks who did our trim evidently neglected to secure the chimney cap, so he did it for me since he had to crawl in there anyhow. No fuss, no muss. Everything as needed.
Description of Work: Reconnected the flue on the upper part of the chimney and secured the cap.
