Overall it exceeded our expectations.

First contacted Josey Construction (due to their good rating on Angie's list) on March 27, 2012 at 9:40am. I sent an email via Angie's list to inquire as to the type of electrical they did. We needed to have our barn wired for electricity and sometimes jobs like this are too big so we wanted to make sure. I had also sent him a schematic of what we needed. Colin Josey sent us a return email at 1:35pm that same afternoon saying that he would need to see the job. At 7:11pm that night he sent an email to make an appointment with my husband to come out to see the job. The appointment was made for Thursday and he did show up promptly. So far, so good. We are thinking, wow, this company is really on top of things. However, since then...nothing. We have sent emails and made phone calls but have not received any response (or quote) from this company whatsoever.

My experience with them was excellent. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary; in fact, I have called them back, and they are going to do some work in the living room.

My husband and I came to the decision that we liked many things about our original tract home, purchased in 1989. But we still had all the original fixtures, carpet, vinyl flooring and windows installed by the builder. in addition, my home business had expanded over the years, and my office had completely overtaken the dining room, and still needed even more space! I had thought about remodeling plans a very long time. Then I was referred to Colin Josey of Josey Construction by a close friend who was very pleased with the remodel he had just done for her condo. When Colin first came over to meet us, I was immediately impressed with his friendly, open and professional manner. He did not try to 'sell' me one way or the other and walked with me through our home as I discussed my various thoughts. In one case in the Master Bedroom, he told me that yes, he could do as I was thinking, but that another way could work as well and be much less expensive. We continued communication and estimates on the project for about a month. He was patient and explained a lot of remodeling issues to me as I refined my plans. We finally hit upon a plan that balanced costs with what we wanted to accomplish ... and so we began work on the upstairs of the house, which has the LR, Kitchen and Master Bedroom and is the main living area. Since our job meant that the entire upstairs would be gutted back to the sheetrock, Colin explained our options to ease the work going more quickly. So my husband's and my choice was to pack everything up as best as possible and move into the downstairs guest and bathroom. Immediately upon the first day of construction, Colin had multiple crews in our home: demolition, electrical and plumbing. This would continue throughout the project over the course of the next months. We realized in talking with other friends that this is not normally the case. But we generally had at least 3 crew members working each day, and at one point we had 7! That was plumbing, painting, and carpentry crews all going on at the same time. We did have structural changes to the interior. Colin himself was hands-on here, both designing and constructing the new load bearing beam so could remove a wall between our dining room and living room, creating one Great Room. It was in this spot that I wanted to move my home office. I mean if you work at home all the time you want the best room, right? Now that the former dining room would be opened up, it would be our 'sitting room' with library shelves for all our books. Along with that, my favorite part of changing the walls was to remove three very inefficient smaller closets in the kitchen and bathrooms. Once someone gives you the confidence to know you can say yes, let's tear that out, it is a liberating experience. I trusted Colin's judgement and received the benefit of his experience. For example, I can not believe the difference it is to change a 24" door to a 30" one. We did this on two bathroom doors at his suggestion and could not be happier about it! Sometimes it's smaller changes you weren't really focused on that can make the most impact in your day-to-day use of the home. Each crew member that entered our home was courteous. During the initial intense phase of about 10 weeks I had tradespeople here promptly at 8:00 AM each morning. At the end of their day, they would tidy up the work areas. Yes, there was a lot of dust! You've got to be prepared and realistic about this. All the tile cutting was done outside. The painting and carpentry crews put out plastic sheeting whenever it was needed. But Colin staged the work in such a way that as each task was completed it would interfere the least with the next task to be done. It was demolition, then rerouting of the electrical, next all the new plumbing valves and pipes were put in and new shower pans were built, carpentry followed including installation of new IKEA cabinets, new double-hung windows and all trim and baseboards (yes! I had every piece of trim replaced to get a clean, modern look) the tile crew laid floors in the kitchen and bathrooms and built the shower stalls, during this time the paint crew scraped off every bit of the hideous old popcorn ceilings and spackled nail holes in the woodwork, sanded it, caulked it and primed it before painting, the paint on the walls and ceilings was done with rollers and brushes, then the old carpet was removed and Pergo birch-finish flooring installed. I could see in Colin's interaction with his crews that they respected his judgement, and I saw him treat them professionally as well. He has an engaging sense of humor, and kept all of us in a good mood during the process. Where there some snags? Yes, just the nature of a large job and many individuals. Where there any 'gothca' moments that spelled trouble for me or awful strains on the budget? No. Of course, there're always unknowns until they get into an area and tear it out. But Colin would give us a feel for the cost up front: the cost per stud that might have to be replaced, the cost per square foot if sub-flooring had to be replaced, etc. The end result of this confidence and trust we had in him actually lead to a major expansion of the work. As they began to reach a more finished state upstairs and we were so pleased with it all, my husband and I sat down for a long talk. The result? We told him to give us an estimate to keep going and remodel the entire downstairs as well! His price was fair and we took the plunge. The work proceeded there just as successfully as it had upstairs. We could not be more happy with the decision. I hope this gives you an idea of our level of job satisfaction with Josey Construction. This remodel was completed in 2008, and in 2011 we are STILL very satisfied and it s a testament to the quality of work we received.

Mr. Josey responded to my inquiry from his internet site www.joseyconstruction.com within 2 hours of my submission. Mr. Josey was very personable and offered many design ideas that would enhance my ideas. I obtained quotes from 2 other contractors and selected Josey based on his experience and felt that he better understood the vision I had for my home. While the work was being performed great care was taken to protect the adjacent areas and the workers were nice and mannerly. During the project, additional work was added at my request and a fair price was quoted for the add ons and Mr. Josey was able to work in these addons without significantly impacting my timeframe. I was very impressed with the finished rooms...they were beyond what I had originally imagined and I love coming home to them every day!
