With over 35 years of experience in the construction industry, our owner and project manager Colin Josey brings a broad range of skills to new home and remodeling projects. Josey Construction projects have included: full home remodeling, full kitchen, and bath remodels, bedroom, bath and studio additions, tile and flooring, interior and exterior painting, and concrete and exterior work. While also successfully established in the heavy construction industry, Josey has always valued the type of job satisfaction and client interaction that comes with the direct client contact in individual and unique home projects. In his firms, Josey Construction and KalGar Construction, he has applied his knowledge and management skills to satisfy clients in all phases of home remodeling and building and has found the job he loves best. While there are many remodeling contractors providing homeowners with varying levels of service, Josey Construction sets itself to a high standard of work ethics and principles. After years of monitoring job quality, schedules, production costs and budgets in very large scale construction projects, Josey has a unique level of expertise in managing people and time lines. In addition, as a Master Carpenter he is a skilled craftsman with the ability to assess and direct the workmanship of the tradespeople he employs. Though the practice is not common in the industry, Josey Construction employs a consistent group of sub-contractors throughout its projects. All contracts specify payment schedules for your project. This includes a down payment, partial draws based upon project progress in agreement with the homeowner (for larger or extended jobs), and a final payment when all work is completed to satisfaction. For Home Additions plan and design supplied by owner.
Colin is awesome and was very professional. Complete the project super quick and everything came out amazing. Would definitely work with Colin in the future.
Four years after beautifully redesigning & remodeling two bathrooms for me, Colin is still more than standing behind his work! Recently my houseguest accidently broke the towel bar in my enclosed bath/shower . I called Colin for references and advice as to how to get this repaired. His advice was "Send me pictures and I'll get my glass guys out to fix that". I was floored, stunned, elated. In less than a week two very courteous and professional men came out and re-installed my towel bar and wished me a blessed day. I have never heard of nor expected this level of customer care. So my advice is simply "Call Colin @ Josey Construction" .

Colin and his team did an exceptional job on our kitchen remodel. We will without a doubt use Josey Construction again for future projects in our home!
Josey Construction did a very custom project for us, putting in a doggie kennel and extra pantry storage under our stairs. The project turned out just like I had imagined, and even better. Colin, Julio, and the whole crew were amazing to work with and really take pride in their work. I would recommend them to all my friends and family! Thanks Josey Construction!

Thank you Sir. You as well were a great help with your detailed vision.
I contacted Colin and described my project as upgrades to an existing/expanded laundry room the prior contractor could not complete - Josey was very well aware this was a takeover from an existing contractor PRIOR to a site visit, but a very clean statement of work. He missed the first appointment because he forgot to tell me I had to schedule it on his website - my time was spent preparing for no meeting. We then established a meeting, which went very well and he appeared interested. Later that day he communicated he was not interested as the project was a takeover from a prior contractor? My problem lies in this gentleman wasting my time, twice. Miscommunicating the first meeting, and then backing out on bidding when he knew BEFORE our onsite meeting the job was a clean takeover from another contractor. I build for a living, huge commercial work at a high level, and this flaky approach is unacceptable. Colin - wake up and decide what you want to do before wasting the customer's time.

You wanted me to come in the middle of another contractors job and finish it that is not professional for me to do. For someone that has valuable time you certainly can sit down and write a large and long boring review. I have to look after my business I have to make decisions that are right for my business this was my right decision. My time was also wasted. I don't care if you do 10,000,000 ft. of commercial work a year.
This review is very overdue. Colin did two large jobs for us over the last 3 years – a master bathroom/closet and then kitchen/laundry room renovation. Scope was all flooring, walls, cabinets, countertops, new built-in hutch, complete pantry do-over with pull-out shelving, new exterior doors, window replacement, new closet and laundry room shelving, built-in dish display case, tankless water heater for master bath. My wife spends most of her time in these two areas and absolutely loves her kitchen and bath. Colin was helpful in material selection (floor and wall tiles, accents, countertops) and color suggestions and did not gouge us on any changes we asked for after work had started. He listened to what we were wanting and helped steer us away from things that would break the bank. His work crews were very talented and easy to work with. Looking forward to the next one with Colin.
Thank you Sir. You guys are a joy to work for. I to am looking forward to your next project. Thank you. Colin.

This was the second time I have used Josey Construction. I had such a great experience with my tub to shower remodel that I went back to Colin Josey for help with some wall/ceiling sheetrock repair, retexturing and painting. Everything went really smooth, very quick with great attention to detail and fair pricing. Josey Construction is my go-to for any remodel needs!

Requested an estimate following his visit to inspect the existing bathroom. He didn't seem to be too engaged in providing any remodeling ideas, and promised to have a bid to me that afternoon. I did not hear from him for five days when I received an email stating he had a lot of projects coming in during the week and would not be able to pick up my job now or in the near future. So this implied to me that he didn't want to take on my project to begin with, which he could have told me versus stringing this along.

I am thrilled with the bathroom remodel completed by Josey Construction! I had been struggling for months trying to find a contractor I felt I could trust, who did quality work and who also had a reasonable price and I found all of those qualities in Colin Josey. I live in a multiunit dwelling (condo) and it was imperative the work be done quickly and professionally to not overly impact the others living around me. Start to finish, from getting the estimate to the finished job, was smooth sailing. Colin Josey's recommendations and advice were honest and fair and I greatly appreciate his time and attention to my smaller-scale project. The crew was punctual and worked hard to get the job done quickly. They paid extreme attention to detail and did a beautiful job with the tile-very professional. They left me with a dreamy new shower that I am extremely happy with. Josey Construction exceeded my expectations and I'll use them for any home construction needs and have already recommended them to my friends and family. Thank you so much!

The final result was nice, but it would have been even better if Colin would have been at our home more than just a few times during a 2 month period. There were many mistakes along the way which would most likely have been prevented if he would have been on the job more often. Communication was lost between me, Colin and his employees which should have been prevented by him being at our home more often. Colin was quick to meet with us initially and always quick to get a check from us, yet he rarely came to see how the remodel was going. The men who worked for him were nice and respectful. Colin only likes to use his vendors to purchase items, and if they do have the item you want for your remodel, Colin pushes you to purchase from them anyway.

I apologize ahead of time for the length of this review but I feel it’s important for me to be as thorough as possible in my review of Josey Construction. This is the second project I’ve hired Josey Construction for. Both are in the small to medium project range. Unfortunately, some of the issue that surfaced during the first project (a bathroom makeover)were amplified significantly for this project (a fireplace makeover). The main problems are Colin’s poor communication, his complete disrespect for your time and attention to details. The initial meetings to discuss the scope of the project were fine. He offers his POV which is helpful and arrives when we commits to. The issues began as soon it’s time to start the project. Colin and his team weren’t able to arrive a single time when they committed to. I was hoping to have the project completed prior to Thanksgiving, which I made clear to Colin on multiple occasions. Colin said in an e-mail he could start on Tuesday, about 2 weeks prior to Thanksgiving. The night before, based on a prompt from me, he said he couldn’t start until the next week. Only stating “jobs fill in quickly.” After already committing to Tuesday he clearly got “better” jobs. At this point, he committed to the next Wednesday which put us only a few days out from the desired completion date. He said it was going to be close but doable. Fast forward to the next Monday, I get a phone call at work from Colin that he and his crew are at the house ready to start. I explained my frustration with the communicated Wednesday date but all he said was “sorry but I really need to start today.” Upon arriving, I realized his tile crew wasn’t even briefed on the scope of the project. They were going to tile around the existing fireplace while Colin clearly knew to remove the old fireplace surround. Colin chose to blame his crew for not paying attention. Additionally, Colin said in an e-mail that we could select the grout after the tile was laid. When I showed up to let them in, the crew made it clear this was a one day project and I had to select the grout color on the spot without the consultation of my better half. That night, after the tile portion was complete, I realized the crew forgot to grout a small portion. It’s not that big of a deal to fix but given the upcoming nightmare to get Colin back to my house to finish his work for over two weeks, it was annoying. The next chapter was to get him out to install the mantle and finish the loose ends. He said he would be out on Wednesday (two days after the tile was laid) with stains samples for the mantle and work on the small items. Wednesday was a no show, with no communication… I sent a text asking what happened, Thursday no communication, Friday no communication. Friday, I wrote Colin a lengthy text outlining my frustration and the outstanding issues, no communication. Saturday and Sunday, no communication. Sunday night I sent an e-mail asking for an update. The week of Thanksgiving, I called on Monday and finally got a hold of him and I said “what’s going on” all he could say was “busy”. No apology, nothing. He said the gentlemen working on the mantle wanted to come to my house and take something to match the stain from. Similar to the grout, now I’m put on the spot due to Colin’s poor planning and communication to try and come up with an item to take from my house, while I’m at work. He said “people do this all the time.” Based on his previous communication about “I’ll provide stain sample because it’s not like paint, you can’t restain stain.” Needless to say, I came up with something to match that ended up not being quite right (not entirely Colins fault but being put on the spot, I picked a poor item to match). The gentlemen took a second sample to match. Under the impression there was still a chance to get something done before the holiday, I offered to go to their workshop to approve the stain to speed up the process. Upon arriving and seeing the stain, I asked if I could see the mantle. This is where I noticed it was not built to the agreed specifications. It was supposed to be angled on the front and sides. This mantle only had an angle on the front. Upon sending a text with pictures to Colin, his reply was “they knew the correct specs.” Again, it was addressed but Colin was quick to blame it on his crew, when there was previous examples of other workers not being given all the details. The most interesting thing was, if I had not made a special trip out to their shop to approve the stain (which was a moot point with an incorrect mantle) they could have very easily stained and installed the wrong mantle. After realizing they weren’t going to be able to install and finish the work prior to Thanksgiving, it became a process of trying to get Colin’s team out to finish the work. Sunday (after Thanksgiving) he said his crew would be there on Monday at 10am. Even though I gave Colin access to the house, I stayed there in order to make sure everything looked good and the loose ends where addressed. Monday was a no show again with no proactive information from Colin except at noon after a text from me he replied “I’ll try to get a hold of him”, I had to go back to work. Monday night he said they would be there Tuesday at 9am. Yet again, a no show with no warning they wouldn’t be coming out. They did drop the mantle off Tuesday afternoon for us to approve before they installed it. This was a new twist that was never discussed but Colin clearly felt insecure in his ability to capture the details. So he needed me to approve the mantle before it was installed. Wednesday he said he’d meet his crew at the house at 9am to finish it up. I wasn’t able to make that work (after missing the last two mornings for no shows) so my wife met them there. After 16 days since the tile work was done and too many no shows to count, they did arrive at the agreed time and promptly finished the work. Unfortunately, Colin can’t manage a project of this size and when things really started to go sideways, he tried to blame us for being the type of customers “that needed to see stain samples” after he suggested it at the very beginning. Basically, we were “too high maintenance” for him. You might have a better experience with a bigger project but I can’t imagine taking that risk. Just to add one more thing, I question his general remodeling knowledge. On multiple occasions he said something that wasn’t true that his crew had to correct. One example was, he said we needed floor tile coming out from the fireplace because “code required it.” After his crew removed the old tile in front of the fireplace, we saw the hardwoods were in great shape and his crew said for a contained direct vent fireplace you don’t need tile on the floor. When we asked Colin if he would take back the tile we accidently purchased, based on his direction, he threw a small “fit” and said “I’m just going to through it away.” The tile company had originally told us they would take back unused full cases. I knew it wasn’t much money but it was more the principal and the fact he ignored any text where I asked about the used floor tile being taken back. I think he gave us a $30 discount. In summary, I wanted to say one good thing and one more negative. The positive, the two different crews that came out to do the work were very nice and tried hard to do good work. The negative, after Colin gets his money don’t expect any follow-up support. I’ve asked Colin a simple request of either, a small amount of extra stain in case we need to do any touch ups or could he just provide the brand and color of stain so I could purchase some myself. As you would expect, he’s promised a couple drop offs which never happened and now he won’t reply…

I'm sorry [Member Name Removed] for all the drama I caused you. Every three or four years I have to admit I will have a small project like yours go down every wrong road.
Absolute waste of time. In a 10 second phone conversation he told me my job was too small. Don't waste your time calling this company. He must have better things to do. Sometimes those small jobs bring about very large referrals. The job I was calling you about might have been small but I have a portfolio of rental properties that could have been jobs for you later on. I won't call you again.

We were looking for a contractor to provide the basic structure for a small home addition. We wanted to use our own contacts for electrical, HVAC, sheetrock, plaster, paint and flooring. We called 3 contractors listed on Angie's list... one never returned our call, one replied by phone but we never received a follow-up for an appointment to discuss the job. Colin Josey returned our call, made an appointment to meet with us at our home, and spent an hour going over what we wanted. His bid was not cheap, but it was fair, and the quality of his work supports his pricing. His workers were on time, worked long days, and always cleaned up after themselves before leaving for the day. His workers were also courteous and had no issues working with, or around, our workers. The job was completed with no delays other than for inclement weather, and the finished structure was great! The addition withstood the high winds and rain which occurred in December (before we had 'sheetrocked' the walls), with no squeaks, drafts, vibrations or any other imperfections one might expect from a newly constructed structure that has been attached to a 65 year-old home! We definitely recommend Colin Josey, and will use him again if he is willing to put up with us!

We are planning to do some kitchen remodeling. Based on their good ratings on Angie's list, I contacted Josey asking for an estimate. First trying to set up an appointment with him is like pulling his teeth. After several tries, I finally managed to set up an appointment with him. He came on time, looked at what we are planning to do and promised to email me a contract in a couple of days. But more than 2 weeks later, he did not provide any contract, not replying my email. Such an unresponsive person, we'll never do business with him.
Description of Work: He came to look at the job, promised to provide an estimate in 2 days. Now it is two weeks later, he is not responding to my email, basically vanished from the face of the earth.
