The Burnside crew was friendly, efficient, clean, and very knowledgable. Burnside Air Conditioning was the most cost effective over 5 different air Corditioning bids that we called. Not only were they the most economical but the service was prompt and most helpful. I will use them in the future for all our air conditioning and heating needs. P.S. = They did not try to sell us extra parts or try to sell a full system change.
Description of Work: David Weiess MGR, came to our home the next morning at 7:30 am and discussed replacing the broken 3.5 ton condenser with a new Lennox unit. We agreed on a price and he sent his work team out the same day. We were back in air conditioning by 3:00 pm that same afternoon.

I called Burnside to help me with my AC unit. The thermostat was apparently not working, but the fan was still blowing. My husband, who was out of town, grumpily told me that it was just the thermostat and he could fix it when he got home. However, it was very hot upstairs. Additionally, one room of the house had not been cooling properly. I went ahead and called Burnside, they came out THAT DAY, very punctually...I got a call about 20 minutes before they arrived in the correct window of time given to me by the dispatcher. He checked the unit, found the necessary repair, made it, and identified the issue with the duct work that kept the back room from cooling. He repaired that without a charge. It was an excellent experience and we will certainly use them again.

Our heating system is obsolete. So when it dies we will have to buy another. They did pressure us to buy now but we won't...it will have to die first. Same with the air...will need replacing and they wanted to give us a new one...again, it must die first.

Thank you for the review and constructive criticism. Our records do indicate that your indoor heating unit is over 40 years old. The national average useful lifespan of a heating/cooling unit is 12-15 years. It would be normal for any technician to encourage replacement of unit as old as yours. It is never our intention to "pressure" anyone into doing anything. We simply offer options. After reviewing your past invoices, I see where you were given the option of having a designer come out to give you a replacement quote and you declined. We will be happy to keep your existing equipment running for as long as you see fit. We did identify a non-repairable refrigerant leak in the coil of your heating unit last May. Since a replacement coil for your air handler is no longer available, it has by all accounts "died". Within appropriate limits, we can put refrigerant into your system each year to keep it cooling but as it loses refrigerant, it also loses capacity and efficiency. However you want to approach the problem, we are here to serve you. Please don't take offense that any technician will recommend replacing a 40+ year old unit. They are only responsibly doing their job. With us, all you have to do is simply "decline" the offering. We don't encourage or incentivize our technicians to pressure a sale. Our sales occur organically through exceptional service and honest, sound advice. You are absolutely correct that there will come a time when you are left no other option but to replace. I've used Burnside AC for many years for my home's HVAC needs. I already knew I needed new flex ducts in my attic due to the duct's plastic exterior being severely deteriorated (very apparent visually) with the junction boxes also severely deteriorated. 11/15/2013 - The Estimate Burnside AC arranged for Abe Al-Amar (Service Manager / Estimator) to come to my house to give me a free estimate. I already knew Abe since he arranged for the installation of my AC unit in 2009 and also arranged for my parent's complete HVAC system install in 2011. I am very impressed with Abe's HVAC knowledge and professionalism. Abe arrived exactly on-time to the agreed-to appointment on 11/15/2013 at 8:00 AM. Abe carefully inspected my HVAC system and then gave me a written quote of $3026.93, which I considered a good price for the materials plus 5-6 hours of attic labor (fortunately the attic was cool due to it being November). I agreed-to the contract and agreed on a work date of 11/25/2013 starting at 9:00 AM. Abe also agreed that he would arrange the required HVAC Building Permit with the City's office. (The day prior I confirmed with my City's Building Inspection Department that a Permit was absolutely required and that the HVAC contractor doing the work - not the homeowner - must be the one to pull the permit from the City. I also verified Burnside AC was licensed to do HVAC work in my City - a City requirement. I highly encourage everyone to do this research directly with their City before starting any HVAC project.) 11/25/2013 - Work Performed and Completed The installation team (4 men) arrived promptly at 9:00 AM. The team was careful to put drop-cloths down in my house to keep my carpets clean. The team staged the materials in my garage since the entrance to my attic is in the garage. The team first removed the old flex ducts and then installed the new R-8 flex ducts. They were very careful to keep the work area clean and orderly. The entire installation took 5+ hours to complete. The team swept-up the garage and took-away the old flex ducts and other trash - they disposed of all this material (which was a lot of trash). Abe arrived shortly before the team completed the job to look the job over and ensure I was completely satisfied, which I was. A few days after the job was done, Burnside AC called me to arrange an appointment date for my City's inspector to come and sign-off on the HVAC Final Inspection for the HVAC Permit. The City Inspector came as agreed and signed-off on the Permit approving the work performed. This document can be important if and when I decide to sell my house. I also have a service agreement with Burnside AC where they come to my house in the Fall and Spring to inspect my HVAC system and ensure it's operating properly and safely.
Description of Work: Replaced all flex ducts in my house with new R-8 insulated flex ducts complete with new junctions, 3 new curved-blade registers and new metal supply plenum. The old flex ducts were deteriorated due to age and the old junction boxes were leaking air. They also arranged for the required HVAC Building Permit with the City's Building Inspector office.

Burnside had been recommended via word of mouth by two friends who have used them in the past. So included Burnside as one of the three quotes I needed for system replacement. When Abe came to give his bid I could not have been more impressed. He is very knowledgeable, and professional. He gave me multiple options for system replacement, did not oversell and took time to educate me on the equipment and the process of installation. He was the only one who provided a printed quote (I was a little shocked when a different company provided their quote on a sheet of notebook paper, written in pencil). Abe stayed with me the whole way from beginning to end. He even made sure all the work passed inspection. When it came time to install I was also very impressed. Burnside sent out two crews (one for each system) who really knew what they were doing. Each crew had a seasoned leader with 4-5 younger guys well versed in system installation. Many of the crew were in college just working over the summer. I could not be happier with the service I received from beginning to end. Kudos to Burnside, Abe and the installation crews. I look forward to many years of a comfortable indoor climate, and maintaining the relationship with Burnside.

I've had 3 visits from two employees over the past year or so. I've been pleased with their services. Always punctual and professional. I haven't had them repair anything yet, only inspections. Prices seem a bit high, but probably worth it. Their gold star program allows for 2 inspections a year (one for heat one for A/C) plus discounts on any additional services performed. The $218 is for this program and includes two units.

We selected Burnside because they are a Lenox dealer. We have recently moved to McKinney and used this as our criteria for picking a company. We could not have been more pleased. The young man that came was right on time, very friendly and very efficient. He explained exactly what he had done and what wouldbe needed in the future. We have never had as thorough an explanation. I had a coupon which he honored on the spot.We will definitely use them for all our heating & a/c needs.

My A/C quit working last night. I called Burnside this morning and they were able to send Doyle over the same day. Prompt, professional, HONEST, and KNOWLEDGEABLE! Doyle could have easily told me that my circuit board was bad and try to sell me one for approximately $500. Instead, Doyle took the time to trouble shoot the system and found out the problem was a blown fuse on the circuit board, not a bad circuit board. Then he went on to find the wires that caused the fuse to blow. Change a few wires, replace a fuse, and off you go. Again, many opportunities to fib and try to over sell and over charge. When someone is honest, even when no one is looking, then they have my future business. Thanks Doyle and Burnside, job well done!

Last week my old AC unit went belly up. I spent a full day Monday interviewing possible contractors to put in a new system. Abe was the rep Burnside sent out for my initial quote. From the moment he walked in the door he was extremely professional and much different from the other contractors. Most of the ones I had out earlier very quickly looked over my old units and then began pushing there top end units. I had one guy spend about 5minutes total at my house then tell me he would email me quotes for all the systems he recommended, I still have not recieved anything from him. Abe actually tested and measured my old system and gave me straight forward answers to the questions I had. He did not seem in a hurry or trying to push any systems on me. He even pulled out his laptop, spent time looking up avilable systems, and then giving me mutiple quotes for all the different options I had. He even had a printer that he used to print the quotes out right on the spot! So no messy hand writing or feelings that I may end up paying more than the quoted prices. I did not feel Abe was trying to suck me dry and gave me honest and straight forward quotes. He informed me that he recommended a middle of the road option as my zoning system upstairs did not need to be replaced. He did give me the upper price quote for replacing everything including the zoning system, but said he recommended waiting and seeing if it would work after installtion was complete. If not he said, we could address that and he would just make me pay the difference in price. The zoning system did in fact work and he saved me close to $1200. I was also impressed that he offered to have a crew out the same day to install my new system, even though it was already close to 4pm. I declined and had the crew come out the next morning. Kevin and Vaun were the guys who actually did the install of my new system. They also were very impressive and professionals who you could tell had done numerous installs. They laid drop clothes and cleaned up after the job was completed. I could tell Kevin and Vaun were honest guys and they were also very friendly. They also gave me valuable information about the system and even told me when my house was built it should have had a downstairs air return and that the one and only return was below my upstairs AC closet. They recommended cuting another hole the same size on the other side of the closet as to give the unit enough air flow. Upon informing them that I did not have the proper tools to do a job like that, they went ahead and cut the hole for me and installed the grill cover! I was very impressed with my overall experience with Burnside and would highly recommend them to anyone seeking a new HVAC system. I will update my post upon completion of my service contract and how well the units are maintained by them, but I would expect nothing short of perfection from Burnside at this point.

On July 17, I came home from work to find that my AC unit was running but not cooling the house below 90 degrees. It was after 6 pm, so I looked up an HVAC company on Angie's List, found Burnside and called them. It was after hours, and I was given the option to contact an after hours technician, but since it was "only" 90 in the house, I decided to wait until morning and call when they were open. I left a message and had a call back at 7:58 the following morning! Even though I wasn't an established customer and we're in the heat of the busy summer season, they sent someone out by 10:30 that morning, and the unit was fixed by 11 am. I am astonished at their quick response. Their price was reasonable, and I signed up for their annual service contract. They also honored my Angie's List coupon, which knocked off $90 from the repair. The technician was polite and identified himself when he arrived - at the time he said he would, I might add. Overall, a great experience.

I reviewed your records to find that we had to replace a failed dual capacitor on your system when we came out on July 18th. Capacitors are the most common part to fail in an A/C system. The dual capacitor we installed in your unit is "Made in the USA" unlike the industry standard replacement capacitors which come from overseas (usually China). We have very high standards and are committed to providing you a top quality repair or replacement. Incidently, since you signed up for our Gold Star semi annual preventive inspection service, one of the many benefits you receive is having a 5 year parts and labor warranty on your replacement capacitor. Description of Work: Arrived on time and performed service requested. Employee was a "new" pefrson that couldn't answer some questions that I asked and needed to call the office for an answer. The answer was somewhat "bogus" and did not resolve my problem which was "Why is there so much dirt coming through my ducting". The answer was "candles" which my wife burns like twice a week and we never had this problem in our previous houses!! The person was more interested in selling me plan that would give us a Spring check up on our A/C, which I purchased and will hopefully be more informative than the furnace check up.

We recently revisited the member's home to find the source of his dust problem. Upon further investigation, I found that our technician had made the appropriate recommendations to help with the dust problem. Apparently, the problem was not effectively communicated to the member, as he declined the recommended repairs. We have since gone out and performed the complete duct system sealing that was previously proposed. In this case, the dirt was not coming from inside the ducts, but rather from around the grilles which drew in dust from inside the attic. We are anxiously awaiting a return call from Mr. Harrison with the results from the duct sealing and fully expect to have earned his "A" rating by fixing his problem. As for the "new" technician that was at his home, the member had nothing but kind words about his service. All of our employees function as a team, and I am glad that he would call the office for an answer, rather than guess. We have, what I believe to be, the best technicians in the business and I am committed to continuing education and always improving our level of service. Burning candles was one of several ideas that were suggested as a possible cause for black color of air filters. Pollution from burning candles indoors is a very real problem, but clearly was not the issue in this home. There are many sources online with "do's and don'ts" about burning candles and the environmental impact in your home. If you like candles, I suggest that you do a little research. The member did purchase our Gold Star service, which I believe he will find to be a worthwhile service to keep his equipment in tip top shape. This experience was great, I purchased a house 250 miles from where I live. I spent one day interviewing contractors. I selected Burnside Air Conditioning based on their Angies List reviews. I did not even look for any other HVAC contractors. The process was very professional and the installation . I gave them the keys and they got the job done as promised. It could not have been a better experience.
Description of Work: Burnside a/c evaluated my existing systems including equipment, ductwork, and thermostats.They made recommendations to correct deficiencies in the systems. They were able to provide three different proposals the same day. We selected one proposal and scheduled the installation for three days later. When the final proposal was reviewed in the office several enhancenents were added but the pricing stayed the same. The job was complete in one day with no problems. Now I need to add - this was all accomplished while I was 250 miles away from the job site.

Description of Work: They broke my air compressor. They inspected my system and removed some fuses from the unit., which then the unit broke down and they came in and gave my an estimate for $5000.00 but after they broke my system.

I called Burnside because my furnace was blowing cold air. They were able to come out the next day and upon inspection, found out that my furnace didn't have the LP conversion kit installed correctly. He ordered the part and came back the next day to install. Everything is working great!

I paid for the two-visit service agreement and they sent out a designer to evaluate our 4 year old 4 ton Amana system. I thought we needed a 5 ton unit to make more air push through ALL the vents. The designer said a 4 ton should work (it wasn't) and gave me a price for the regular 5 ton Lennox change out, almost 8K, and the Lennox 2-speed unit which was going to be close to 10K. This knocked us off as we're retired and disabled, guess we looked like we could easily afford to bypass company discounts and rebates offered by other companies. I came back and agreed to let them rearrange the plenum, adding the adjuster rings to regulate the amount of air going to each part of the house. After having done this, the bedroom is now cool, the front bedrooms have little or no air, and I still need a few hours with the window unit on in the den. IT NEEDED A 5 TON UNIT, but not willing to pay premium prices.I think finding a fair HVAC company would be similar to a car dealer. If money is not object, go for it.
Description of Work: Parts of our home were warm while others cool. They recommended reworking the distribution of air in the attic off the plenum and add adjusters and a new air return in the back bedroom.

During our design appointment, we performed a heat load evaluation on the home and all indications were that a 4 ton system was sufficient. We did honor this member's request and submitted a bid for a 5 ton system also. Changing a system to a larger size is rarely an appropriate solution to cooling problems and in this case, we discouraged it. Not only do you have to change the equipment, but you have to upsize the ductwork to accommodate the new larger system. That drives the replacement cost up. What we did end up doing was settling on a solution that would address the member's primary concern that the master bedroom was not getting enough air. We successfully corrected that problem. We identified other serious issues with the duct system that were not addressed by the member. Those duct system issues date back to the original construction of the home and are the primary reason that the 4 ton system struggles to keep up. Poor ductwork in homes is unfortunately very common, since home builders would much rather put money into the things that can be seen and touched. It's the aesthetic things that help them sell houses and we're left to clean up the HVAC mess that they put in the home. I'm glad to say that we still have a good working relationship with this member and we'll always give them the very best that we have to offer.
