BUYER BEWARE of Blue Ribbon Roofing LLC, McKinney, TX,. The owner John Hopkins has operated under several different business names: Signature Roofing, Bold Renovations (and variations thereof, ie Bold Roofing), and most recently Blue Ribbon Roofing, who sold me my TPO roof in January, 2018. I have an architecturally significant home with a series of flat roof lines. I contracted Blue Ribbon to replace the existing roof with a Firestone product. Blue Ribbon, instead, installed a different product by Carlisle. They also installed new coping, and retro-fitted (3) skylights. John Hopkins did not inform me of the product change, file a city permit, or provide the subcontractor’s installation license for the installed product Carlisle manufacturer. He said the project would take two days, it took 6 days, and they disconnected my DirectTV, did not pay to reinstall. At the end of the install and final cash payment, John Hopkins assured me all the drains had been address and cleared, trees would be trimmed, and the installer would remove all the trash, clean the site. My roof began to show leaks 4 weeks later, in late February, 2018. I had three flat tires from improper site cleaning (nails in tires). Trees were hanging over roof drains and rubbing against the home, and the workmen unplugged my sprinklers without reconnecting. None of the old caulking had been removed and resealed around the perimeter flashing of all exterior walls, and all the coping had been screwed on the top. The installer did not use the standard clipping system or wood blocking at the top of the parapet walls. Water was pooling, and not reaching clogged drains. In April, Blue Ribbon Roofing cleared the drains, replaced two of the three skylights, replaced vents, and caulked over existing caulk. In May, as they painted the interior water damage, other leaks were detected in the living room, and master bath and closet. Blue Ribbon did not address any of these new leaks by the end of that week. I called the contact number on his insurance certificate that is posted on his social media. The number was disconnected. I sent an email, no response. John gave me the brokers correct cell number, but he no longer represents Blue Ribbon. June, 2018, I hired an independent roof inspector who documented 13 deficiencies in the installation. I had 12 additional issues, including interior water and possible electrical damage. In July, 2018, I made a final attempt for Blue Ribbon to honor their install and warranty. However, my roof continued to leak. After weeks of negotiating, delayed starts dates due to documentation issues and expenses payments, we signed a second contract. It took two inspections for the repairs to be finalized. Blue Ribbon has yet to provide valid proof of insurance. It took eight plus months to get my home to pass a roof inspection, preventing me from selling my home in an aggressive market.

Blue Ribbon Roofing is the most professional contractor I have ever worked with. They did an outstanding job. This company is 1st Class. They not only are honest and do the best job with literally the best materials, they are very fast. My new roof looks so much better. The quality of the materials they used stands out relative to all my neighbors new roofs, and based on my experience with Blue Ribbon Roofers I have a great piece of mind with the quality of the work. The company is Family owned and they genuinely care and have a strong sense of community as well. Next time I need a new roof I will be call them.

Blue Ribbon arrived on time with an excellent 10 member crew that finished in one day instead of the estimated two day process THE debris Descartes off leaving my yard with no discarded nails, no plastic wrapper leftovers, and no lanscap damage. Blue ribbon roofing was very easy to work with and fit me right into thier schedule despite it being right after a major hail storm event. I have a fairly large house and was plesantly surprised that they were able to complete the entire job in only one day. The crew dedicated to my house did an awesome job and cleaned up very thoroughly after they were done. I have recommend this company to all my friend and family that had roof damage.

It was a long process to complete.,due to unforeseen additional storms and rain , but all was completed professionally and in a timely manner .

So far so good, the roof has not leaked. I do not climb on the roof to see how many nails they put in but seems good. They stayed within the insurance payout.

From the initial estimate to the end of the project, Blue Ribbon was truly amazing to work with. The owner, John, personally came to look at the roof and give me an estimate. I was notified that the crew could be there a day early! The roof is top quality, and the crew was efficient and clean. The office staff was easy to work with, and great about final payment details.

Jon hopkins, a very friendly person, came and instected the roof. He stated that it had enough damage for a full replacement claim. He assisted with all the paperwork and claiming with my insurance. The roof looks much better. 10/10 would recommend blue ribbon.

It went very well once we got the project foreman onsite that could speak English and communicate effectively with the job crew. Unfortunately, I don't know Spanish and not one of the six crew members could/would speak English. So when they were asking me questions about the job (work) I could not answer them due to communication barriers.

John Hopkins visited me after the claim was approved and explained the work he planned to do. He also provided documentation on the type and color of shingles which would be installed. This information was essential to my getting approval from the homeowners' association within 48 hours. The installation began 3 days after the insurance claim was approved. The installation team did a good and was very fast; the job was completed in about 6 and a half hours. A gutter contractor came out a few days later (delayed by rain), and cleaned and patched all gutters. Two downspouts were replaced. The roofers cleaned up pretty well. They did leave 8 roofing nails in the paved street in front of my house and 10 nails in the driveway. I consider it important to be particularly careful not to leave road hazards for neighbors to encounter, so it is critical (to me at least) to check for road hazards. However, this concern is minor and common. Overall, I would recommend Blue Roofing to anyone and will use them again if my roof is damaged in the future.

I've heard all the stories about dishonest roofers who follow the storms, take a deposit, and then don't show up for weeks if at all. My roof was completely destroyed in a hail storm one week ago. I immediately filed a claim with Encompass. Their adjuster was onsite within three days and wrote us a check. John Hopkins of Blue Ribbon Roofing came out the next morning (a Wednesday) to make his pitch. He promised to have the entire roof replaced by Sunday...just 4 days later. What actually happened is that his crew showed up the next day (Thursday) and finished the entire job in one day. This was NOT a small roof. His crew was courteous, and careful about protecting the plants and pool. They covered almost everything with large drop cloths to catch the debris. In the end, they thoroughly cleaned up everything. In just one day, I have a new GAF Timberline roof. John is supposed to replace all my gutters and restain my fence. He warned that these items will take a little longer. Based on his response with the roof, I'm confident he'll get it done promptly. I'll write another review on those items when that work is finished. Summary - the roofs in my whole neighborhood were destroyed by the storm about a week ago. I'm starting to see a few signs for roofers popping up in my neighbor's yards. In the meantime...I already have a new roof.

Seemed like a fair and careful estimate

It was amazing! The estimate was almost exact and everything went so smoothly. I would highly recommend this company. Brenda smith is so amazing to work with! She is an absolute doll!! She is def an asset to this company!!! Five stars all around!

We had a great experience with Blue Ribbon. As soon as the paperwork was signed, a crew was out and at work. After two days the entire process was complete. Brenda and John were very nice and helpful, they really know what they're doing and will take care of you and your roof!
