After getting a quote from another vendor but not being able to get back in contact with that vendor, I contacted Ernie Smith & Sons to get an estimate to repair a leak that had appeared in the roof over my garage. After speaking with someone in the office, she indicated that one of the contractors would contact me to schedule something. I didn't receive a call to schedule an inspection for several days, until a technician called to tell me he was on the way to my house for our appointment. Since I could do it then, we did. When the roofer (the youngest "& Son") arrived, we looked up in the attic, and I told him that another vendor had indicated the problem was with the flashing. He quickly pointed out that the water was starting higher than the flashing, so it didn't seem likely. After a few minutes in the attic taking pictures, he went up on the roof. He immediately (<5 minutes) found the problem: there were nail holes through several shingles in a line that looked like they had never been properly sealed. He guessed that this was caused by the original builder's roofing contractor improperly installing a footboard. He also looked around the rest of my roof and found several other problems (including one other spot that had nail holes, but thankfully that were properly sealed). He gave me photos of all the spots he discussed, and wrote up an estimate on the spot. We were ultimately able to agree on the spot to have them fix all of the spots he identified. (Based on my poor experience with another vendor, I wasn't going to let this one get away). It took a few days to get the actual service scheduled, but we were able to schedule it in ~1 week. When the foreman came to perform the work, he was very professional, and he and his crew finished the various jobs in a little over half a day. Overall, couldn't be more pleased and won't deal with another roofing company if I can avoid it.

In today?s world, it is rare to work with a company that makes customer satisfaction as one of their primary measurements. I recently watched Ernie Smith and Sons Roofing replace a composite shingle roof on my historic home in Galveston. Firstly, the crew performed the work in a safe manner. This was no small feat, because they removed 115 year old wood decking, and landed it on the ground from the top of a two story structure. They protected the balconies and trim of the house from damage, and what little damage occurred was repaired and repainted. The crew did an excellent job of cleaning up the site and both neighbor properties, after the roof work was complete. Jaime Alcantara was an excellent job foreman and communicator, able to explain technical details of how the roof was applied. He worked with me when I had issues about the application, and treated me and my stand-in surrogate with great respect. What was most impressive about the whole experience was the ultra-professionalism of the entire team. At Ernie Smith and Sons, several family members are involved in the sales and execution of the business. Carl Smith has got to be one of the most knowledgeable and accommodating salesman I have ever worked with. He made some good suggestions drawn from his background of work on older homes. I had already seen one other recent roof job orchestrated by him on a very old historic structure using a different application, and the results were impressive. Mark Smith followed up on final details of my contract to complete the job requirements with such courtesy and attention that it was a pleasure to work with him. In short, the sales and execution stages of my job were almost entirely without stress. That occurs so little in today?s world that this company stands out. Putting a new roof on one?s house is not a task anyone wants to willfully commit to. However, I feel Ernie Smith and Sons Roofing did a standup job, and will stand behind their work. It appears to me that this company truly cares about their long-term reputation.

We didn't use it, and we told him to leave. We went with a different roofer. We told him where it was, it was around one of the pipes. He got up on the roof and shoved the pipe so bad it made the leak worse. Then we had to do over $3000 of repairs in the bathroom. They did call to find out why we didn't use it, I told them, and haven't heard from them since. I will never use them again. It's a very poor subject with my husband and I. They came out to the house at an ideal time to look at it. We weren't happy with the quality of the guy going up there and doing what he did to the roof. We are unsatisfied. They didn't charge us anything except the big deal.

Mr Jenson was very professional and polite. He did not try to sell me unnecessary services. Ernie Smith and Sons was referred to me by two different individuals. I would definitely use them when I'm in need of their services and refer them to others.

Well, because they email their evaluation or bid, my brother asked for my email address to give to them. I never received an email...even to this day. I told my brother, and I thought he was going to call them, but he left to go out of town for work before I could ask. I called after not hearing anything 2 weeks after the initial visit. That's when I found out it was Sam that came out. I conveyed my email address again, but no emails. I called again 2 weeks after that and was told to talk to Dave. Dave seemed willing to help me and have Sam call, but no call. I called again to talk to Dave the next day, but Dave wasn't in. I voiced my frustration, and asked if they were a member of Angie's List. I was told yes, and the receptionist would have someone call me back. No calls EVER! No Sam...no Dave. I have had many contacts with vendors over the years, but never had an experience like this. If they didn't want the job, then why didn't they just say instead of the cat and mouse game?? It's been well over a month now. When my brother gets back into town, I will have a good talk with him about this.

I have to modify this review , The owner of the company came out and fixed the last place that was leaking. He said to call him if there are any more problems He gave me his office number and his cell number, I am pretty confident that it is not going to leak anymore only time and rainfall will tell. Thank you Sam Smith First appointment I had with them they didn't show up and didn't call. They appoligised and made another appointment which they did show up for but they were late. I showed Sam the leak in my bathroom ceiling and he went to the roof and came down and told me the vet pipes had rubber boots and they were leaking and he could fix all of them and also replaced the wood that was wet. I asked him for pictures because I could not get in the attic I have bad knees. So he promised pictures but never delivered a single one. I paid in full he gave me an agreement I signed but did not read the whole thing that is on me. HOwever My Roof is leaking again I called them back out and I was at work my room mate said the man came and said he sealed a leak around a pipe and it should not leak again. The next time we had a heavy rain it leaked again in the very same spot over my bathroom I first hired them to do. The came out a third time my roomate told me two men came out Sam was one and another man they went on the roof again and claimed the pipe leaking now was not the same pipe they came to fix even though the leak is in the exact same spot as has been leaking from the very beginning ... now that evening when i came home and asked my room mate what happened I called Sam and he told me he fixed what was in the contract if i would just look at the contract well i cant find the contract but that does not negate the fact that the roof is leaking in the same spot as it leaked in the first place. I asked him again for pictures he promised in the first place he said he would email me.The next morning and all day still no pictures. I dont believe he ever took pictures I know he did some hammering on the roof and sawing and i can see spots in roof that are no longer level. I feel royally screwed over because they said they would fix the leak but i would have to pay more money. I thought about it over night and decided I want nothing more to do with this company ever. I have a leak in my roof I spent a lot of money I couldn't really afford and now I am scared to death to hire any roofer because I cant trust anyone not even angies list.

excellent overall. a bit difficult to get scheduled due to their popularity. Sam was extremely tactful, articulate and confident in his company.

I had 3 contractors bid on this work. All 3 were inline on the roof quotes, but the siding quotes ranged from $2,500-$7,900. We went with Ernie's who was the middle number because of their ability to speak intelligently about what they do, how they do it, and the personal attention I received from Terry over the phone. They were without at doubt the most professional of the 3 contractors we spoke with. Once I received the quote, the sales person was difficult to reach, but calling the main office was a reasonable workaround. Coming from a project background myself I can sympathize with being too busy. Once the work began, there were no issues with making contact. They had some trouble keeping up with emailed product selections. Not deal-breakers by any means, but for responsiveness I gave them a C. The quality was grade A. The neighbors have all been commenting how well the siding work was performed by Pedro (Peter). The roof also is top quality. The old siding came down just as the weather decided to get chaotic, but they did what they had to do to protect the property and get the work done in a reasonable amount of time. I certainly appreciated that!

Overall it was a great experience. The only negative was that they were a little slow getting back to me but that ended up working to my advantage in the long run. I noticed a small leak a few months ago and reached out to another roofing firm I found on the list. The gentleman from the other firm told me I had hail damage and I needed to contact my insurance company. I took his advice and contacted my insurance company and they said I had no hail damage at all. I then had to drop the matter for a bit due to vacation. Ernie Smith called me back at the perfect time and offered to come out 2 days later. Sam Smith from Ernie Smith showed up on time and took the time to review the photos from the previous inspections and explain his opinion. He then got on the roof and confirmed it was a small sealing job. He offered to do it on the spot for what I considered a reasonable price for a steep, high roof. He did the job quickly and professionally. What really impressed me was he took the time to point out some things that I could easily fix myself that would prevent future problems. He even explained how to do it and provided me with some materials that I needed to fix it myself. He very easily could have padded his quote with his guys doing that work but I appreciate his honesty. So all in all, a great experience but a little slow getting back to me. David Smoot

Carl was great. He was very professional and very knowledgeable. I would have used them over the other guy I got a quote from, but the 3rd quote I got was WAY lower. I don't plan on living in my house forever, maybe the next 5-6 years, so I wanted to go the cheaper route, not necessarily the best quality route. Though I will say the cheaper quote I got is supposed to be the exact same materials and GAF system. Would recommend and get a quote from again if needed in the future.

It went better than I had expected. Things happen, but they were very quick to respond and to make things right. That's not easy to find these days. I would definitely recommend them.

Never showed up. I am not interested in doing business with company who does followup or even bother returning a phone call. Feedback is the least one can do by phone or email.

The first thing out of the technician's mouth out of getting out of his truck was "I don't even know why we're here, we don't have time for this". The inspection of the roof was very professional though and they even texted my wife photos of additional damage that needed repair. However, we were never able to receive an estimate for the additional repair costs. Even almost a week later and emailing the photos back to Ernie Smith & Son's, we still never received a response or an estimate of the repairs that are needed. We were able to find another roofer that was immediately responsive, since we are trying to sell our home and cannot drag on this experience. We do not recommend this company, until at least they know how to handle and manage their operations better.

They did some caulking to repair the roof. I talked to the gentlemen the first time and he was ill so we had to reschedule. Everything worked out.

Provided roof inspection service. I got good response to my followup inquiries on time and with a detailed report.

Generally speaking, from start to finish they entire team at Ernie Smith and Son's Roofing were responsive to my calls, emails and texts. On the day of the job start, their team was at my house at 7 Am and a team of at least 6 men took off the old roof on the garage and 1/2 of the house and the garage and 1/2 the house were done one day and the next, the other 1/2. They left my house with the porches swept and all the garbage picked up. My only complaint was they trampled the flower beds and I think this might have been avoided. Maybe that is picky of me. If that is the only glitch in getting a very beautiful and well put up roof then I'd say they deserve a lot of credit and should be very highly recommended.

Two man team showed up (Sam and John) conducted a thorough roof inspection. Took the time to go into the attic and figure out the source of a leak caused by failing flashing. Provided photos showing the condition of the roof and a rough estimate for full scale repairs. Understood my current budget constraints and completed a patch repair to the leaking flashing without extra cost. I fully recommend this company as the kind I want to do more business with.

It was during a heavy rain around midnight that we found out there was leak in our roof. We knew there would be another heavy rain the next afternoon so I tried to find someone to help us first thing next morning. I searched in Angie?s List website and called several companies that I found. All of them told me that they would not be able to even look at my roof the same day! Until I called Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing Co and spoke with Terry. When I explained the situation to Terry she asked to me to wait for about an hour to see if she can find one of their experts to help me the same day. She called back in half an hour and told that she found Michel who was in the area and told me that I would receive a phone call from him to tell me when we could meet. Michael called me within the hour and asked me to be home in 30 minutes. I was there in 20 minutes and Michael was waiting for me in his truck. He inspected the roof, explained what needed to be done and answered all my questions kindly and professionally. He gave me an estimate and after I agreed with the price he fixed the problematic spot temporarily. He sent a couple of guys the following week and did all that was needed and even a little extra. Those guys were also very polite and professional. I was very impressed with both Terry and Michal. Terry understood my situation and did her best to find someone to help me and this is exactly what a person needs in desperate situations. She was a great help. Thank you Terry! And Michael was punctual and honest and when we were discussing about the estimate that he gave me, he answered my questions in a manner that I could feel his honesty. I have checked their price afterwards and it was fair. Thank you Michael! I would strongly recommend Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing Co.

I was concerned I had a spot that needed attention and was told by Sam Smith that I didn't need any repairs right now. Sam was very professional and didn't try and sell me repairs I didn't need. I would definitley use this company again.

The company was unresponsive. After scheduling appointment I never heard back from service provider and had to request a refund.

Michael Pool was very nice, knowledgeable and explained everything that was going to be done in detail. The Crew foreman was also very knowledgeable as well and he and his crew did an excellent job! Very pleased and will use them again if the need arises. I am a Realtor and it is good to have a list of good contractors that I can refer out to my clients.

they comae out and did the rood inspection and several caulking sites... after that they went in to see where we could be having the leak... the leak couldn't be found in the first go around. the second visit they found where i leaked and in fact had repaired it with one of the several areas that were re-caulked
