Texas Best Fence & Patio

My review is more of a narrative that started in 2014. My experience actually concluded in late July last year, but I wanted people to know about it as they are looking fence contractors this spring. I believe that my experience speaks not just of the company, but also of the character of its owner, Colby Coward. I won?t embellish. I'll just let the facts speak for themselves. In 2014 I hired Texas Best Fence to build a new privacy fence. My fence line is very long and the cost was over $17,000. The experience was generally good and the work was well done except for one of the workers sawing out a chunk of a tree root without my permission and leaving the two heavy gate posts untrimmed and uncapped. Part of the project was the installation of two gates--one large double gate on the driveway and one regular gate on the side yard. I was concerned about the location of the gates as planned and told Jeff, my salesman, that they may need to be moved after the fact. He said that would not be a problem and to let him know after the fence was up and I had lived with the gates awhile. Last May, I decided to proceed with moving the gates and called TBF for a quote. A different salesperson, Mark, came to the property. I was quoted $600 and was not told that that quote represented any kind of a discount. I signed and returned the contract in May and was told that due to scheduling delays, the work would be scheduled four weeks out. After not hearing anything for several days, I called the office about when the date would be scheduled and was told in a few days. After some more time passed without hearing anything, I called again. Nearly six weeks passed before the work was finally scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, July 21, between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. I took a half-day off work to meet the crew at my house during the scheduled window. They did not show up in the scheduled window and around mid-morning I received a call from the office saying that they would not be there until the afternoon. I could not be at my house then, so we rescheduled for the following morning, and I was promised by the office that they would be at my house first thing in the morning. Again, I took another half-day off of work to meet the crew. Again, they did not show up as scheduled. They finally arrived around 11:30, only to discover that they did not have the proper supplies and equipment needed to move the gates. The workers told me that the office would contact me about rescheduling. After this, I called the office and said that I would need to speak to the owner. I was told he would call me. After another week passed without hearing anything, I decided that the only way I would proceed with Texas Best Fence was at a discount. Otherwise, I would rather pay full price to a company who treated their customers more professionally. Finally, I spoke to Colby Coward, the owner. I recapped the background with him, stated my frustration for having missed a full day of work for nothing, and said that if I were to proceed with TBF at this point, it would need to be at a discount. Colby apologized for the mistakes but then became defensive and told me that he could not offer a discount because he could not do the work ?for free,? and that the $600 was already a discounted price. I told him that I wasn?t asking him to do the work for free, but to discount it to make up for my own lost work time when his crew failed to show up on time twice and was unprepared to do the work when they did show up. At this point the conversation devolved into whether or not we all make mistakes, and I realized that I was getting nowhere and just needed to cut ties with this company. I told him that I would be leaving a negative review and never expected to hear from him again. Within an hour of that conversation, I received a follow-up email from Colby offering to do the work for free if I agreed to write a good review in addition to any negative review. Now I realize that this is where people in my position might have reacted differently and jumped at the chance to save $600, however, I do not want to do business with a company that tries to buy good reviews from frustrated customers. I subscribe to Angie?s List because I trust that the reviews are from real customers, and most importantly, that they are unbiased and not influenced by the companies themselves. As frustrated as I had become with this company and its owner, I was even more disgusted when I read that email, and I wished that they had never received a dime of my money. I responded to Colby and pointed out that I was only asking for what should have been offered and that this matter should not depend on what gets posted on website. I declined his offer and ultimately used a neighborhood contractor to finish the job.

Very well. Did a very good job - folks cleaned up well after staining. Great job of protecting stone areas. Fence looks great.

There were some areas where the stain didn't take and they came out without without a problem and applied a second coat and it looks great!!

It was a 5 star performance from beginning. I was interested in their discount they had on Angie's list, but I wanted to know how much more the rest of my fence was going to cost me since we had 265 linear feet of fence to replace and the discount was for 120. Clint showed up at my door on time with a smile and a firm hand shake wanting t know how he could help us with our project. One of my neighbors came over as he had several questions regarding the materials, stain, and construction process, all of which Clint answered with just the right amount of details. We had previously replaced our gates during the fall while we saved money for the full fence project. The new fence stain was a deeper, richer color over wait we used for stain. client and the Texas Best Team offered to include cleaning and restraining the gates as part of the project, which made my wife extremely happy. Once we agreed to start the project and signed off on the contract, we were introduced to their co-construct application which kept us up to date on each step of the project. We were fortunate to have great weather and the two man crew worked diligently to complete the project in two days! The hauled off the old fence, cleaned up their work, and the only signs of their effort was some saw dust along the ground by the fence. While they were not the lowest bid, they offered a superior product and a superior service. I'm extremely happy with their customer service and the craftsmanship of the Texas Best Fence team. They will have referrals from me for years to come.

Very confusing, took nearly 3 months from time of bid to install, very dis-organized, did not do all things agreed. Bid was confusing, email oriented.

The initial visit from Brad our sales rep went well. He gave us a written quote and it was the best price of the 3 quotes I received. The troubles came on the installation date, time, communications and expectations. The date was set for Monday, November 23. Brad told me he would show up with the crew and go over with them the scope of our project. Nobody called nobody showed up. After some calls we were informed they were not coming and they would come the following day. it was a two day job and we were leaving town on Wednesday so we told them that we would not be home when the job was finished and we would pay them upon our return and inspection of the job. The crew showed up on Tuesday but Brad was not there to go over our scope of work with his crew. When we returned, the back gate would open but not close. We had to manually close the motorized gate which is 8' tall x 13' long and it is very very difficult to do. They were also supposed to tighten up our loose boards on this fence and that was not done. I called Brad and explained the situation and he wanted me to work it out by phone initially, stating that when his guys left they said the gate was operational. I insisted that he come to my house and make this gate close the way it is supposed to with the remotes and keypad's. When he got here he was about one hour late. After a little bit of time he was able to figure out that the "eye" was misaligned and he was able to get it aligned so it would properly close. I pointed out to him that the boards were not tightened up like he said they would be. He apologized and offered to have his guys come out another time. I declined this offer as we keep front and back gates locked at all times for security and I did not want to miss anymore work for this headache. My husband ended up fixing loose boards. So now we have a fully functional motorized gate and a nice replaced front gate. Then there was the actual payment process. They charged our credit card on two different occasions splitting it into two payments for some reason. But they had to call me and ask me if my charge card was charged for the full amount or not. I had to look up the activity on my credit card to let them know they had only charged me for half and they can go ahead and charge me for the other half. Communication was terrible on multiple occasions, resulting product is nice.

The job was not difficult and was accomplished effectively without much craftsmanship. The cost to set the post was priced about $50 high in my opinion.

They performed as expected. Arrived as promised, completed the project in a workman like manner, and responded to a small punch list promptly and professionally. It was a job well done.

Went great. Work was done professionally and punctually.

The job was scheduled within a reasonable time frame after the contract was signed. Unbeknownst to us, they apparently assigned the job to an independent contractor. There were immediate problems starting with the contractor showing up unannounced- lacking in certain supplies and tools. He had to leave a few times reportedly to get what he needed. The estimated time to complete the job extended from a few hours to two days. The finished product looked unprofessional and did not meet our satisfaction. I immediately contacted the company and registered our dissatisfaction. We received a timely response assuring us the problem would be corrected. The following week, the company sent an employee on site to fix the gate. We were satisfied with the final product. This was a very small job so we were not anticipating the number of problems we encountered. However, we would recommend this company despite the challenges we experienced. They were responsive, attentive and apologetic. Even though this was a very small job, they seemed genuinely invested in our satisfaction. Good customer service goes a long way with us.

They did okay. There were no additional fees. They came out about the fifth of November.

They showed up as scheduled and did a good job. They power washed the fen on one day, and stained the fence the next day. The fence looks great. My neighbors saw the job, and they also hired them to stain their fence.

Provider made an appointment with me at 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday; reminded me in an email the day before. At 11:15 rep did not show. I called. Rep called me after a bit and told me that her previous meeting had run long. Great. She should have called me since she obviously had my number. I told her I had to leave. She said she would come by and look at the fence and would leave me an estimate and call when she did. She did not. I had to try to contact her several times. She said she needed to talk with her supervisor. She finally sent me an estimate by email and said she would follow up. She did not. I believe the estimate was way too high anyway. $1000 for one 6' panel and some support bars. No way. But her responsiveness is not acceptable. I would like a refund.

Very smooth. They did exactly what we expected. Very patient and thorough crew. Great atention to details and very professional , clean and organized people. Our thanks to Kimbra and Robert for an excellent job from beginning to end.

My husband and I would like to thank Kimbra Pervine, service representative for Texas Best Fence, for the excellent service that she provided to us during the time that we needed a new fence. Our fence nearly blew down during the recent high winds and since they weren't able to get out to replace our fence for several weeks, Kimbra sent someone out to brace our fence up securely so that it wouldn't fall completely down before the fence work was started. Kimbra came out "on time" for our initial appointment and she explained the reasons that we shouldn't get a cement wall around our property. She relieved our fears about the pool shifting if we didn't get the same kind of retainer wall that we originally had. The fence work started on the exact date as promised and completed on the promised date. The group of men building the fence worked diligently all 3 days and did an excellent job. They are a company that we could trust to complete the work right.

They called for an appt. and arrived on time. We reviewed the repairs needed and he recommended if we wanted to do this now or at a later date - replace the small part of our fence that is original and worn out. I told him that we would do that at a later date. He said they would be back in 2-3 weeks for the repair job and I did not have to be home as long as the gate was unlocked. They did call me 3 weeks later to ask if they could move up the appointment time - I was not informed of an appt. time earlier - so I said that would be fine to come early. They did the repairs, asked me to come look at the job and left. Very friendly and professional.

The rep was very nice. I am disappointed that they wouldn't do what I wanted.

Once we called and scheduled for them to come out they did a great job. The day they came out it was windy so they didn't want to risk staining the tops and damaging the neighbor's pools. So I called and scheduled the tops to be done a week or so later. Will was very professional and did a great job!

Everyone I dealt with at Texas Best Fence was helpful, friendly, and professional. The only slight snag was the timing of the work. It was originally scheduled for an afternoon, but due to weather conditions, the repair crew got held up on their previous job, and we had to reschedule for the following morning. They showed up promptly the next morning and did a fine job in a timely manner. They will definitely be the first company I request a bid from next year when I replace my fence.

price was good, they were very unprofessional. They did the work almost after two months. never return the call or email. I was planning to do some major work on my fence, due to this experience cannot trust them

They started off really well. However, when the guys came out they got half way thruoght the project and ran out of material. They said they would be back the next day and never showed. It ened up taking them a month to finish the job that should of be done in a shorter time.

They were supposed to come out yesterday morning but missed their appointment. I called them and set up another appointment for this morning but they missed that one as well.

Overall a great experience. The rep was on time for the estimate and was very friendly, listened to what I wanted with my new fence, and gave me the estimate immediately. Once I decided to go with this company, they filed for the required permit and put me on the schedule. On the day of the start of the project, the crew and project manager showed up as promised and we went over the project again. Three days later, they had my new fence installed, the old one hauled away, and the area was cleaned up nicely. Nothing could have been easier on my part. I was concerned about one new gate being installed since it was in the areas with all of the power, cable, and sprinkler lines. The crew was very careful to hand dig around those areas (and in fact, the cable line did cross one of the holes) and there was no problem. The quality and the look of the fence are very impressive. There is another builder that has also replaced a lot of fences in my neighborhood that look nice, but I had read too many reviews that the customer service was not good. I'm glad I went with Texas Best Fence as their fence looks equally as nice, if not better, and the customer service has been great. It was also important to me that this company has a physical address listed for their office and not just a P.O. box and a cell phone number. When it comes time to stain this fence in a few years, I'll definitely give them a call. I would highly recommend this company.

Numerous Delays. First was scheduled for December 5th.Contract organizer said crew was sick and could not come out. We were rescheduled for December 12th but was told the day of the 12th that the scheduler had meant the 19th. A party was taking place on the 12th and no one could come out. Was informed late afternoon yesterday that the crew was unable to come out again. After placing a call with the contract organizer it seems the crew is sick yet again. One delay is understandable but this is the third delay. If I had know that when I placed the contract that we would not have a fence up for over a month I would have gone with a different company. The company may put up good fences but expect delay's, scheduling issues, and no effort to correct problems. Update: 12/21/2015. Contractor agreed to put up fence on Monday 12/21/2015 and provide a minor discount for the issues. Work has begun but not completed. Will wait until Job is completed and quality of work assessed before finalizing rating. Update 12/22/2015. Fence was completed. Some small debris and some supplies were left behind but the fence itself is very nice. With the quality of the work done I felt the overall rating did deserve a B and I may consider using Texas Best Fence to re-stain the fence when its needed. With the Quality of the fence as promised would recommend a few things to other customers. Be sure to ask about backlogs and really insist on the start date of the project. I think if you push to make sure that your crew will be available when you agree upon an original start date that you may have better results. For Texas Best Fence I would encourage the contractors and the owner to think about Scheduling a bit more. Many of the complaints I have seen is as result of scheduling mix ups and conflicts. While the majority of Jobs may get started and completed on time it can discourage customers who are concerned if a contract would be honored within a reasonable time period. Overall I do think people will be happy with the final product. Just remember to ask a lot of questions regarding the schedule of your job.
