MRZ Contracting

We have worked with Clayton and his team at MRZ Contracting for two different projects, and have been thrilled with the work each time. They spend the time to understand your preferences, are incredibly knowledgeable about local plants. They kept us updated all along the way, and have been great about replacing the couple of plants that don't survive the first few weeks. Both projects turned out beautifully.

Clayton and his crew did a fantastic job despite several weather delays. The result is a beautiful back patio area around the water feature. Clayton presented a great design for the area which was very detailed. Clayton was very responsive to all our questions and concerns. We very much enjoyed working with Clayton and all the subcontractors. We have received compliments from all who visit us. Thanks for the great work.

Project went well, MRZ was extremely professional and did full 3d modeling of plans ahead of time to understand what their proposal was. They were responsive in feedback about the plan and redid the plans to meet my expectations/desires. At the same time they let me know when some of my ideas were not a good idea from an engineering/resale perspective and were very upfront about everything. All of the "trades" subcontractors they used were extremely professional, did timely and high quality work. I would recommend them to anyone considering a backyard renovation project.

Clayton was great from start to finish. I approached many contractors with this complex job and he was the only one who gave me confidence he could get it done right with the highest quality. His bid was extremely detailed so I knew what to expect going in. He did a good job communicating throughout the process. In hindsight we are definitely glad we selected them for this project. Clayton even came out to help resolve an issue that popped up several months after the initial project.

I used MRZ for a concrete stamped patio, arbor/pergola and restain and repair of my fence. All the work together was quit a large job. I had used them in the past for landscaping the front of my house and found them to stand behind their product. Plus I find Clayton to be easy to work with. I felt I could call him anytime with questions. Great communication, very responsive, very knowledgeable. Hi wife handles all the emails and she is also great. Very responsive and cheery. They even sent me a thank you note. My backyard looks much better now. The arbor has two fans with lights, Six more lights and an outlet. Everything is beautifully done. Great workmanship. Cleaned up after themselves each day. I still need to plant along the border of the fence but I know who I will be using.

Pergola, plant borders, path and most of the landscaping were done last fall. Last month Clayton replaced more old shrubs, added another border with new plants and new sod. The entire project turned out very well and the yard looks great. I wish Angie's List would let you include pictures with the review.

Everything went wonderfully. The contractor and workers were always very polite and professional throughout the entire process. They were always early to the appointment and were constantly addressing any issues we had as they arose. The fact they put up videos of what the project will look like when it is completed made the entire project come to life before they even started. I would definitely use this company again for any future projects on the house and highly recommend them to anyone looking for any construction work on their house.

Clayton, the owner, was extremely thorough, highly knowledgeable, and always available within minutes of calling. His workers were so considerate and fun to work with. He never did anything without talking to us first, and no question was a stupid question when I asked. We loved them so much we sent them to my parents house to completely redo their back and front yard too! I HIGHLY recommend them!

Clayton responded promptly to my request for a bid to build a pergola. We set a time for him to come review the area and talked about the details of my job. We also discussed the possibility of a much larger job, and he was willing to bid the job in two parts, even though it was more work for him to do so. Shortly after our meeting, I received a detailed bid with clear instructions for next steps if I decided to accept the bid. Every communication from MRZ Contracting, whether directly from Clayton on the phone or in an email, was professional and detailed, which meant Clayton really listened so he could get it right from the start. It was apparent from the first meeting with Clayton that client satisfaction was very important to him! Once the project was started, I was equally impressed with the work crew. They were hard working, competent and skilled in their craftsmanship. More importantly, they were the most respectful workers I have ever had on my property - and there have been MANY workers on my property! When they finished each day, they cleaned their area so there was no debris left behind to blow all over my property. When they completed the project, their clean-up was so thorough that you could not tell they were ever there. The best part is the finished project. It is a beautiful pergola that is made right because this company knows what they are doing! I will absolutely be calling them next spring to continue the pergola into the expanded project and look forward to working with them again. I would recommend them to anyone who appreciates having a building project done by the best!

MRZ is very knowledgable in plants suitable for the area and climate and how to prepare the soil. They are excellent at meeting timing commitments. They deliver on their commitment. I would do business with them again.

We chose MRZ because of knowledge (plants, drainage, lighting) and suggestions shared at initial meeting, and then the follow-up of their computerized proposal showing us what the final outcome would be. We were impressed with their low maintenance approach to landscaping. We did have a delay in start date due to our extreme rain conditions. Concrete pour was delayed until we had a low chance of rain forecast, and of course, it rained---several times. However, large crew covered sections quickly and completed job successfully. One of our concerns was the concrete because of seeing some poor quality jobs in neighborhood. MRZ is punctual, responsive (same day) and helpful. We know we can call Clayton with a question and get an answer quickly. We are very pleased with the final result (and will be more so in a couple of years after the plants have matured some). It?s reassuring to know we have a reliable resource for future landscape needs.

Background: We had a pergola built in our backyard and ended up having to take it down about 6 months prior to speaking to Clayton at mrZ Contracting. Long story short- the contractor we used insisted that a permit wasn?t needed and partially built the structure. The city came by and told them to stop working and we tried for a month or two to get a permit with no luck. At that point we decided to just rip it down and move on. We really wanted to try to build again because our backyard had a nice outdoor kitchen but it was just too hot to use it during the summer (when you want to use it most). I looked around at several companies but ended up going with mrZ to do some landscaping and to rebuild the pergola. I liked mrZ the most because they were a smaller operation and appeared to do great work and had great reviews. I wish we would have found Clayton and mrZ in the first place! Project proposal and estimate: Clayton came out and walked through my front and back yard as I told him what I was interested in doing ? full revamp of our landscaping in the front and back yards, patio cover over our outdoor kitchen, and a fence to hide our A/C unit and pool equipment. Clayton was extremely detail-oriented and walked me through exactly how they build their structures and what kind of landscape designs they typically use. I am a detail-oriented person as well so I really appreciated how thorough he was in explaining exactly what he could do for me. Shortly after our meeting, Clayton sent over the proposal along with an estimate and a landscape design. His proposal and estimate itemized everything that would be needed for the project and everything was priced out individually ? very nice. The landscape design was great. It was designed in some kind of CAD program and he sent images along with a link to a youtube video that panned through the project from all angles. Once again, very detailed and well thought-out. At this point I was convinced mrZ would do excellent work and signed the contract to get started. Project: The project started about 7-10 days after we signed the contract and lasted about 3 weeks total. Clayton?s team worked quickly and was very clean. They submitted a permit application to the city about the same time they started work on the landscaping and a permit was issued to us as soon as the landscaping was complete. The construction on the patio cover began as soon as the permit was received. Having been through what we dealt with on the previous pergola, I wanted it to be perfect and I called and texted Clayton multiple times a day asking about different aspects of the design ? roof height, pitch, etc. Clayton is great at communication and answered quickly every question I had. He is very knowledgeable and gave great advice when we asked. Project complete: The project is complete and looks amazing. Clayton and Deborah came by and walked us through the completed project to make sure everything turned out how we wanted. The next day Deborah sent us a plant care guide outlining everything about taking care of the plants we planted. I would highly recommend mrZ if you are looking to do outside work on your home. I was extremely impressed by their professionalism, communication, honesty, etc. They do top-notch work and I will definitely be using them if/when we do more work on our house. Everything turned out absolutely perfect and we now have an outdoor area we can enjoy for years to come.

I called no less than 5 different pool contractors to build my dream pool. Clayton was by far the most responsive and his knowledge and design skills of my vision was first class. he spent time with myself and my wife over 3 months to fine tune the design and get it as close to my budget as possible with all the things i wanted( which was not an easy task as my dream was a lot bigger than my budget). clayton was a professional, and I cannot say enough about him and his wife and his whole operation. First class and top notch. In the end, it went down to two contractors, and all though I went with another contractor, I would have had no problem with Clayton and MRZ. it went strictly by design. his price was right on with the other contractor and his design was beautiful and we could not have gone wrong with either choice. Having said all that, I would use Clayton (and am currently going to have hom do some additional tree planting and landscaping that I did not do in my pool design) I would highly recommend Clayton and MRZ for anything outdoors in pools, patios, out door kitchens and landscaping. he is a great communicator and calls you back when he says and shows up when he is supposed to.

We had a pool built recently and needed post construction landscape work done. After months of unsuccessful visits with other companies sent to me by referral, I decided to look for a company with great reviews written by actual customers who had experienced their work. I came across mrZ Contracting and contacted them about my project. They were very polite and responsive right from the beginning. Clayton came by and we talked about what I was looking for, what my budget was, the problems I had with some of the other companies, and the drainage issues we were having in our yard. He listened!!! He came back to me with a beautiful digital design and an animated video with exactly what we discussed. He took the time to call me and answer all of my questions, and the quote I received was more than reasonable and within our budget. Clayton put us on the schedule and they got started when he said they would. Clayton, Deborah, and the crew that came to the house were all polite, professional and accommodating (even to let my dogs out for short periods of time)! There was never a moment where I felt like I didn't know where we were at in the schedule or what was going on each day. The work performed was EXACT to my design and it's beautiful! We have worked with a lot of contractors -- and MRZ was by far the best experience we have had. Clayton is a very talented designer and project manager. He is responsive, professional, and extremely detail oriented. He is hardworking, ethical, and easy to work with. He informed us of every step of the process -- even anticipating some concerns. He responded to a few frantic text messages after-hours and always treated us with respect. When a problem occurred, he was upfront and immediately addressed the situation with his team -- the problem was corrected immediately and without the need for extensive discussion or complaint. Clayton ensured that everything was completed to the highest standards. MRZ exceeded our expectations. The entire crew was prompt, professional and polite. They clearly take lot of pride in their work and enjoy working together. We appreciated that they were able to address every aspect of our backyard renovation. We were in the process of selling are house and we wanted to get the front and back yard to look amazing. So we contacted MrZ Contracting. They came out and assessed everything and gave us a quote quite quickly. Clayton was super nice and personable and went over everything with us. After agreeing on the work to be done and the prices we set up a time table for it to be done. They were there on time everyday and was even able to get all the work done a day earlier than promised. The finished product was even better than what we had hoped for. I would 100% recommend them to others.

I originally contacted MRZ Contracting in May of 2014, along with two other Landscaping contractors. MRZ was the only one to respond to me. Deborah Dierks called me and stated they were too busy to take on the work I needed to have done, but when I asked if she could call me back when they could give me an estimate, she said she would. She actually must have made a note to do this, and she called me in January of 2015 and asked if I still needed the work to be done, which I did. We set up an appointment for later that month. Clayton Zachary came out and reviewed what my wife and I wanted, looked over the area of work and said he would work up a plan. A week later he presented us a plan with the estimated cost. We were pleased at the detail and layout that he proposed and signed a contract for the work. The weather conditions were uncooperative during the work period, causing starts and stops, but every day that the conditions were acceptable Zachary and his crew would show up to continue the project. Now that the work is done, we have had many positive comments on the project and people have asked for the name of the company that did the work. We were very pleased by the whole process from start to finish and would gladly call MRZ Contracting for any additional work in the future.

We hired Clayton and his team to build a patio arbor for our home. We had a few people from various companies come out to give us an estimate, but Clayton was by far the most professional. He definitely knows what he is talking about and can give very helpful suggestions to help guide your decisions. The arbor they built us looks fantastic and was built with very high quality. It is very sturdy, which is important as we tend to get very high cross winds through our backyard. If you have ever tried to get anything done in Flower Mound you know dealing with the city can be kind of a pain. We actually had one company that refused to even come out for a quote when they heard we lived in Flower Mound because they did not want to have to deal with the city. Clayton on the other hand knows the people at the city by name and has been doing work in the Flower Mound area for many years. He knows how to make the inspection and approval process go smoothly. Even though I know he works much larger jobs that the one we had he still made us feel like we were a priority throughout the entire process. He was very professional, polite, and flexible. I would recommend his company to anyone looking to put in any kind of patio covering.

MRZ Contracting completed a second project for me in both the design and installation of my backyard and front yard new landscapes. Clayton listened to my design ideas and what I wanted. He kept to my budget and did not hesistate to listen to my varoius questions on what would be best. He took what I "thought" I wanted and made it even better. This last project was a new design for my front yard. I wanted something simple and he gave me a finished project that was better than I had imagined. He gave me options and ideas and I appreciated his patience with my questions. The crew who performed the work were professional, hard working and did a nice job of cleaning up after themselves. They gave me good instructions on how to care for the plants and options for future changes. I would highly recommend MRZ Contracting for your landscape projects!

Clayton and his team did a fabulous job on our new outdoor living area. His crew was very professional and very attentive to details. This was a very large project and the final results were beyond our expectations. Our new addition has given us the ultimate getaway right in our own backyard. We have been pleased with how it has given us such quality family time as well as a place to relax and entertain for many years to come. Clayton was very professional in his approach to our project. I explained to him that we had installed landscaping last summer and that for various reasons it had not worked out. He seemed very in tune with our goals and objectives and committed to helping us get what we wanted. He was patient while we worked through the details of the contract and prompt in starting the project. We are extremely happy with the outcome and have every expectation that the mature version of our new plants will be as beautiful as the pictures he provided with his bid. I have already put the word out about his integrity and performance and will gladly look for other opportunities to do the same. MRZ brings together seasoned pros who really know their stuff. The tree trimmer gave more height and trimmed to give proper lighting and tiring to plants as well as trees. Problems with the sprinklers were resolved quickly and expertly even though even if they were not due to their install. MRZ provides an online video of the landscaping design and a code for all the plant names and information on the care of your plants. They stand by plant replacement guarantee. We have had several examples of their professionalism in this area due to the late freeze this year and some late summer plantings on an earlier job that never took. MRZ stays with you patiently but stands firm with what they think is right for you. I feel that is essential because they are the pros with the vision. MRZ fees are not low end, but they are economical for the service and professional treatment you receive. MRZ is only a phone call away and this is way after the install. We've been working with them over three projects for almost 3 years and their professional approach has been consistent, fair, and reliable. Also, they run a well-oiled accounting system that you don't ordinarily see in contract work. I give them the highest rating.

It was a very good experience. We talked to several landscapers and told them our ideas. They were the only ones that came back with a design where we could tell they had listened. If there was something they couldn't do, they explained it and said they could certainly do it if we wanted it but gave a reason why they wouldn't recommend it. They helped with their expertise in the types of plants or design. They were always on time. The crew was very nice. They were very thorough and left things very neat and tidy each day. It took them about 4 days. They let us know what was happening each day and what was going to happen and the end instructions with what we needed to do. We were very happy with everything. Their prices were competitive with everything we saw.

Demo was done in less than a day. New construction proceeded exactly as outlined and approved and looks great. The new build is masonry block covered in flagstone. This grill area will outlive us! It looks great and fully meets our expectations. Further, the hardworking crew showed up at 7:30 (or earlier) every morning, every day, until the work was done. If they had to be gone for a period of time to wait for something to dry, etc, we were notified in advance. There was never a worry about if or when they would show up or when the work would be done. The project was entirely finished within approx one week and we were back to grilling and enjoying our patio. The foreman communicated with us daily re what stage we were in and with any questions he had. Clayton, the owner, stopped by regularly to supervise the work and to check in with us. The work crew were skilled and very hard working. They were employees, not subcontractors, which gave us more confidence that the job would be completed as agreed, and it was. I would definitely use MRZ again. I was very impressed by the process, the scheduling, the supervision and the quality of the finished product.

This company is amazing! They were all very polite, neat and always on time.They cleaned up everything before leaving every day. They worked with our schedule - not theirs. This was an enormous job! It all came off without a hitch. The entire project was actually completed earlier than projected and it was even more beautiful than I imagined. These are top notch people. I would highly recommend them!
