"NEVER use this company if you want work done correctly and expect to have any type of customer service. Alan at first is a very nice person and appears to be knowledgeable. - I wonâ t discredit him on that. However, he does incomplete work and then ghosts you when you attempt to call or text. In the beginning he will respond after about 10 attempts and with me he claimed he had a new phone that somehow he was not receiving calls/texts. After about 4 months of my texting (not daily because Iâ m busy, but every couple few weeks) he did return to replace one faulty light that never worked (he installed down lighting on the front of my home, 3 on each side) however when he showed up he said he had the wrong light and would return the next day. Now another 2 months have ticked by and I still cannot get him to come and replace the light. Mind you this is not a simple light bulb change. Trust that I went to see if I could just do it myself and even asked when Alan came by after four months with the incorrect replacement light. These are wired and installed under the roof. He finally engaged again a few weeks ago and said he was ordering some and would make this right. I have been texting and emailing only to be ghosted again. Mind you I believe these can be purchased at any Home Depot or Loweâ s. Itâ s going on 6 months now, no Alan. Iâ m considering a small clams suit just to send a message but I truly just want the light replaced. Also, he does not provide contracts which should concern you. My project was small enough (less than 1K) that I was not insistent. If you decide to use Alan, insistent on a contract with start finish dates and outline what happens if the job is not completed satisfactorily. Also insistent he writes down what materials he is using if you are allowing him to purchase them. Another reason that Iâ m beholden to him is I donâ t know what lights he installed and would have to pay someone to come out just to find that out. Of course, after my experience I went and researched his reviews and learned other customers on other sites have complained about Alan ghosting after he is paid for a job. I also think he has had a couple of other companies under different names probably because because of bad service/reviews. By the way, I used him because he came highly recommended by 3 of my neighbors. Itâ s just hard finding people who do good work and stand by a commitment to do good work. By the way, in the middle of this I let Alan completed two other projects (ceiling fan and camera system installation) and those projects were mostly OK. There are other reviewers who indicate Alan works hard for his money and that is true; hence, I thought I could really trust Alan to return and correct this light replacement issue. I guess what they say is correct though, trust no one. I will keep trying until I can get some time off to file a small claims suit. I am really sad it has come to this. But I had this particular project done for safety reasons so itâ s very important to me - I even explained that to Alan as well."

"We had lightning rods installed at our home after having 2 previous lightning strikes. The first strike was minor, with only slight damage in the yard. The second was significant when a very large pine tree was hit close to our house causing various electrical issues in the home -- despite having a whole home surge protection system. Just months after having the lightning rods installed, lightning struck an even larger pine tree in our small back yard, Thankfully, the lightning rods saved us! It was a huge strike, and we had no damage at all in the house. These lightning rods were potentially life-saving."

Electrical services FAQs

It’s important to ask an electrician a few questions before you commit to hiring them so you can make an informed decision as a consumer. If you’re getting estimates or considering hiring an electrician, ask them these questions:

  • Are you a full-time electrician?

  • Are you bonded, licensed, and insured?

  • What level of experience do you have as an electrician?

  • Can you please share three references?

  • Do you do residential or commercial electrical work?

  • What kinds of electrical work are you most familiar with?

  • Will any subcontractors be performing the work?

  • Are permits and inspections required?

  • Who is responsible for obtaining permits and inspections?

  • What is your schedule?

  • Do you offer a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Will you sign a do-not-exceed clause to keep the job within the budget?

Tipping an electrician is not a requirement nor is it expected, as they build a fair wage into the price of the job. It’s up to your discretion. There are no set rules for tipping electricians, but if they did a great job and you’re so inclined to tip 10% to 15%, it will likely be received with thanks.

Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.

Yes, although there are different types of electricians, they must be licensed, certified, and in most cases insured. States have different requirements for electrician licensing and certifications. In some cases, there may be licensing requirements at the local level, but not the state level. It’s always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. If licensing is not required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed electrician with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Certified” badge. Angi Certified businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.
