Description of Work: WOW - I have finally decided to set some time aside and write a review of ABACUS. I checked Angies List for a foundation repair company and selected ABACUS for the first quote because of all the good reviews. The ABACUS representative showed up on time and was very professional, informative and spent quite a bit of time explaining, measuring and calculating what we needed done. Our home was built in the late 1920s with a stone facade and metal roof and we have lived in it for over 20 years in an area of Oak Cliff behind the Dallas Zoo so the homes are older, charming and in a unusual geographical area compared to most of Dallas with lots of winding roads and hills. After the quote and the recommendation of over 20 piers (25 I believe to be exact), we contracted with them to start work. Start date was February 03, 2011, nice balmy day with no unexceptional weather forecasted except cold and drizzle. The crew showed up and had many of the holes dug for the piers around three sides of the house (amazing what they can do digging holes under a foundation) and to think I had at one time though of do it yourself), lol...leave this type of work to the professionals. Well we know what happened on February 4, 2011, worst ice/snow storm to hit Texas in decades and right before the superbowl. So what was to be a 2/3 day job dragged on for a few weeks (as it would have for anyone due to weather). In addition to piers I also had dry rot on my main support beams, some floor joists and the majority of the sill plate so that would need to be replaced;aced as well along with plumbing that may possibly dislocate when lifted. Well throughout the mad Texas weather and thawing and then snowing again cycles, ABACUS came out when they could work based on weather and performed the foundation pier work, underneath house pier and beam wood replacement and when they actually lifted the house (up to 6/7 inches in one area and I finally have a level hallway floor) my partner and I were both present along with our dog who was quite intrigued (well not intrigued but if you had doggy Zoloft, it would have helped) a plumber was on call since I had concern about gas pipes since the heating is gas and I knew there would be some extreme lift on one side of the house by kitchen and bathroom. Lifting occurred on a nice sunny day, all the ice and snow madness had melted, Superbowl was over and the creaking, buckling, popping and a few glasses of wine to calm my nerves, and a Greenie for the dog, (partner was already calm), we started to see amazing improvement and noticeable differences. Of course being a stone facing.facade we did have cracking and (beware of falling rock) some fallen rock. All in All, besides the weather and those poor folks who spent money for "good seats" at the Superbowl and got not so good seats, was a great experience which I hope I NEVER have to do again because such a good job was done and it should last the remainder of my lifetime if I stay in the house. ABACUS employees were very professional, helpful and answered any and all questions we had and cleaned up afterwards as best a s they could after the nasty weather. I would use them again and did have their plumber come by after they finished to disconnect some older gas indoor heater lines from underneath the house. I asked for a recommendation from them for masonry repair for stone and the foreman was able to recommend someone whom I have now used for masonry /rock repair, a brand new roof, framing and am now working on a "Mothers Cottage" in a detached garage as mother is getting up in age and that recommendation has worked out as well with excellent work. I did not get another quote other than ABACUS and probably could have come out a little less expensive but I would use them again and go through the same gyrations (except weather!). Great job Abacus and employees, best of luck in growing your business and if I need you again, I will be sure to call outside of February.
