They come twice a year to do the maintenance of the system. In 2014, they replaced the whole system. They are great. They used to be under another name, but they got acquired, but I really like working with them. That's what I like. They tell you what you can do to improve the longevity of the system. They're pretty consistent. They keep good track of record of what is done and what they have done and what needs to be done next and they work with you when you can do it. They show up on time, they're good about explaining stuff correctly. They suggest things, but don't try to over charge you. They're not like, "oh my G-d, it's going to break and you need to do it right now". They explain why it makes sense to do it and after you are free to make the decision if you want to spend the money on it or not. I knew that for the breaker, it's not that urgent, the main street going into my neighborhood was going to be done, so I knew that there was a change that the electricity was going to be off more than often, so I decided to go for it.
Description of Work: They came out for maintenance. Actually we installed a second brake on the outside of the unit, on the top of it. Previous visits we did the inside unit with the second brake and now we did the outside unit on the second brake. I know that I have the connector coming in.

BVS installed a new HVAC system in my home just over 1 year ago. It works wonderful. When they come out for a semi-annual review of the system, they don't charge me anything unless I need a new filter. However, the tech takes over 1.5 hours to do this review and then he always tries to sell you something. I think that a system that is less than 2 years old should need nothing. If something is wrong it would be covered under warranty.

They come when they say they're gonna come. That is always a plus. We pay $25 a month so we don't have to pay for our service calls. They call us and they do the winter and summer check ups. But it's going up, I think it's gonna be $50. They just told me it's gonna go up, but it wasn't gonna go up for me, but for other new people. They are gonna have a higher price to pay, they charged per unit, I think it's like $12.95 per unit, I have 2 units, but that's going up. They did tell me that. They're all pretty much the same. We've never really had to do anything really major so I hate to give a grade on price on something like that because I haven't had anything major. I've been very happy with them. I always use them, because I pay a monthly fee.
Description of Work: We signed up with them when they installed our heating and air conditioning for a service contract for maintenance.

We admittedly should have followed up, and I apologize that we didn't...it truly came down to a miscommunication between our technician and office staff, which doesn't happen often, but we are certainly not perfect. Today was my winter checkup, they examine the fluepipe and gas line, blower motor and wheel etc check temperature rise, thermometers etc. They are not a hit and miss company, but they are detailed and complete. They take time to discuss the system, ask if you have any concerns and so on. Brazos Valley Services had competent, well trained technicians and honestly care about their customers. I am delighted to have their services.
Description of Work: Several years ago I had BVS install a new airconditioning/heating system. Their professionalism was exceptional, the work was detailed and I have a maintenance contract with them. They service the system twice a year, changing filters as necessary, ensuring all systems work properly.

The BVS technician showed up and did his inspection, but when he was done he did nothing but criticize my A/C and furnace, even though he was not here to inspect or service the furnace. He never looked me in the eye when he was telling me about all of the alleged "problems" that he "found". Then he proceeded to tell me that I needed to replace both systems because "they are old and in such bad shape". The prices quoted were "anywhere from $9000 to $30,000, depending on what you want". He then offered to make "repairs" on my current system to the tune of over $1,000, but he couldn't guarantee that the system would last that long even with the repairs, so "it is best to get a new HVAC system". I want the owner of BVS to know that I have been in sales (real estate, insurance) for many years. I know all about up selling and cross selling but I never ever lied to any clients or customers about anything to make sales. While BVS was here, All Star A/C & Heating called with a $49.00 offer and I said okay. All Star was just here and found NOTHING wrong with my A/C system after a complete inspection. All Star also came out last October to inspect my furnace and gave it a clean bill of health, even though my furnace is over twenty years old. I showed the All Star technician the "findings" by BVS on their invoice, and he shook his head in disgust. He said it is most unfortunate that many HVAC companies run their businesses by resorting to the use of scare tactics from their technicians to make sales. BVS will never get any more business from me ever again.
Description of Work: Unfortunately I purchased a "special" for an inspection for my A/C system for $49.00 when BVS called me with this offer.

I feel like Brazos Valley lied to me and tried to take advantage of me after being a customer for about 3 years. After servicing my furnace the technician informed me I had a weak spot on my heat exchanger which could crack at anytime and leak carbon monoxide. He provided a picture of the weak spot which looked like a scuff mark to me. He then provided me with the cost to replace the furnace of $6200 and if I also replaced my a/c unit, it would be $9100. I thought the cost was high for the furnace replacement and explained I couldn't afford that. He said I could pay it monthly, which he kept pushing, for only $78 for the furnace or $115 for both. I told him I'd get back to him. I called another company for a second opinion. They said the furnace was fine. The spot of concern was a scratch that was made with a sharp metal object like a screw driver. They also said their cost to replace the furnace with an upgrade was about $2800. After thinking about this for a while I became more upset with Brazos Valley and called to speak with a manager. He wasn't in so I left a message. It's been 3 days and he hasn't returned my call. They lost a customer.

Rich Young was very professional. He was running a little behind from his previous service call and his office called me twice to keep me updated. Rich checked all of the systems, was very thorough and polite. Would definitely recommend.

After 5 years the heating started breaking every year, same part and problem. Once the technician told me that part needed replacing not realizing it was under warranty. When I told him it was, he wanted to fix it again. However when I called and complained they did replace the part. Then the month after the warranty expired they said I needed to pay $1500 to repair leaking oil. They were always on time and behaved in a professional manner but too often I felt played. UPDATE: I had All Star come and give a second opening. He said my heating unit didn't even use oil, that it looked and functioned like new, that heating units last a long time in Texas and I'll have to replace the AC condenser long before having to replace or repair the heating. Brazos Valley totally tried to scam me and I will not be using them again.
Description of Work: BVS replaced my heating and air conditioning 10 years ago with a ten year warranty. To keep the warranty in effect I had to pay a monthly 12$ fee that offset the cost of yearly inspections of each system and stay with them.

If we are unaware of something like this happening (saying that something needs to be replaced and then repairing once they find out it is under warranty) there is no way for us to address it, and our customers are our biggest priority, especially our long-time, loyal customers like you! It is rare for any air conditioning system to go 10 years without any problems, and often people replace their systems after 10 years, so for a leak to happen soon after the 10 year warranty is up is unfortunately not uncommon, but good thing you were a maintenance club member and received a discount on the repair! The technician and helper could not have been more professional. The helper started by covering his shoes with plastic booties before entering the house. He then laid painting tarps from the front door to the attic access ladder and moved all furniture from the area before anything was done. By the time the technician arrived (and donned booties), the helper was already at work in the attic. The two worked together, without stopping, until the work was completed (6 hours). Not only was their work completed, they improved the air flow so it was better than the original installation as well as found and corrected a serious flaw in the installation of the secondary drip line (original install never took it through the outside wall). I could not be more pleased.
Description of Work: Replaced coil and plenum. Installed dampers, cleaned and resealed ductwork connections. Replaced inline filter and fixed secondary drip line.

Overall: Suggested maintenance was not actually needed. Cost of suggested repairs was more than twice that of an independent estimate provided by another company. The technician for the annual check-up was timely and professional. After his inspection, he said that I needed 2 start-up kits and 2 contactors. He said that the contactors were corroded and rusted, and the writeup he left behind said that they were "burned." He said the startup kit would prevent heat buildup in the unit and thus preserve the life of the unit. He provided an estimate of $1,216 (after the special discount for service members), and mentioned that he could do the work right away if I wanted. I felt that there was a bit of a hard-sell by the technician, as he mentioned how expensive it would be to replace the units, and that this work could help prolong the life of the units. I deferred in order to do some research online. (I am an engineer.) The two contactors and two startup kits can be purchased online. The startup kits are $34.75 each with free shipping, and the contactors are $31.55 each. According to youtube videos on installation, the time to install each startup kit is about 15 minutes, and each contactor can be installed in about five minutes (two screws, three wires.) The entire job would take less than one hour. The estimate of $1,216 to do this work thus seemed incredibly excessive. I thought about doing the work myself and even went so far as to buy the startup kits online. But then I got busy, so decided to call another company for an estimate to do the work. The technician from the second company gave the units a clean bill of health. I asked him about the contactors, and the techician said that there was no problem with the contactors and that they looked brand new. He showed me the contactors, and there was no evidence of pitting, corrosion, or burning and indeed looked brand new. I asked about the need for start-up kits. The technician asked if I had any noticeable dimming of the lights in the house when the AC units came on. There was none. In the opinion of the technician, there was no need for a startup kit as there was no problem with peaks in amperage on startup. This echoed some of the advice I'd researched online. However, since I had already bought the startup kits on Amazon, he installed both of them for me as they can't do any harm and can prevent power surges inside the house. He did not charge me to install the parts since I provided them, it only took him a few minutes, and I was already paying for the inspection. I asked the technician from the second company to provide an estimate of costs to provide and install two contactors and two startup kits. His central office got back to me with a written estimate for $468.61 to provide the parts and do the work, including travel costs and tax. This estimate is less than half the estimate provided by Brazos. In fact, to hire Brazos to do the exact same work would be 2.59 times as expensive - Not to mention that the work did not appear to be needed at all. Last year (2014) after the inspection by Brazos, several problems were found. I dug up the old invoice for the work - $1,557.00 of work was performed on 5/20/14. The work was to do a chemical clean of the evaporation and condenser coils, install two blower-motor starters, and install 2 incline ball valves on the primary drains. I did not research these problems and did not look at any of the faulty parts so have no way of evaluating the necessity of the work, nor can I compare the costs for the work. I trusted the opinion of the Brazos Valley Services technician that the work was actually needed. The other noteworthy thing is that Brazos would call several times a year to offer off-season specials on installation of brand new AC units. These sales calls were annoying and always seemed to come during inopportune times. I called Brazos to find if individual technicians are reimbursed on a commission basis. The person answering the phone told me that individual technicians are reimbursed on a commission basis, which is a terrible incentive. I expect much better from an A-rated company on Angie's list.
Description of Work: For the last couple of years, I was a member of Brazos Valley Services service club, paying 39.99 per month for annual checkups on my HVAC units. I have two Trane central air units, both from 2005. Brazos came out to do the annual checkup on both central air units this spring.

It was another $1200 for that. I actually had previously used them with one of the big deals before and I have had a great experience with them.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for Brazos Valley Services for heating and A/C. We had a really old unit so they had to do switch valves and replace the trip pin.

The first technician came to fix a Honeywell thermostat but the problem turned out to be in the air handling system plus a Freon leak. The second technician arrived at 5pm on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and removed and repaired the system.. We had had the system check by another HVAC company and they missed all the problems. It I snow heating and cooling on schedule and the fan turns off when it should. WONDERFUL. I also found the office staff that worked with me to be very helpful and worked with our schedule.
Description of Work: Trouble shoot problem with thermostat and constant running of fan. Replaced evaporation coil , liquid line dryer, recharged system, replaced control board and repaired 3 burnt wires.

I bought a AC tune up discounted rate service from Angie's around a year ago. Same time I bought a monthly membership with them 14.95 USD per month. I called them three times starting from July 2014 about canceling my service but they keep charging on my CC even after canceling the service in July. Every time I get different answer from them when I call them and last time they said I had a yearly contact until end of September so they charged my CC until Sep. 2014 but I just saw my CC bill and they have charged for month of October now. It is ridiculous !!! They didn't perform any AC tune up which they suppose to perform before start of summer. I am completely disappointed with them. I don't want to call them and ask why they keep charging my account. I am going to dispute with them by calling my CC company. I will never use them again and won't recommend to anyone.

They came out and did an estimate on the work that another company had done. When they found a number of deficiencies, I called the company that did the work to have them fix the problem. Brazos was at my home for two hours. They found that the system had been left open -- the plenum hadn't been put back together properly. It'd been hung with duct tape. They found that the doors had been left off of the unit and that the unit hadn't been properly sealed.
Description of Work: I bought a deal for $25 for a $50 coupon toward services!
