Spencer Air Conditioning & Heating

This was the fourth company I had called, and the only one that properly debugged exactly what the problem was, and fixed it. The first said the internal unit should be changed (an estimate of over 2000$), the second immediately blamed the compressor (and gave me an estimate to change the outdoor unit of almost 3000$), and the third said it was just lacking freon, and added some (but didn't check the internal unit to see if it was cooling). David arrived yesterday evening, checked the compressor (it was working fine), did some tests on the compressor valve, and had it cooling again by restricting the flow. This allowed him to guess (correctly) that the piston on the internal unit wasn't working properly, and when he checked it, discovered that it was stuck (and thus not restricting the flow). Once this was fixed, everything worked, and the house is now in the cool 70's. Spencer AC should give David a raise, because he really showed a solid understanding of the system, and the patience to debug it. He told me that he initially suspected the compressor was faulty, but after some more tests (doing stuff I don't understand), that wasn't the case. He was also willing to explain quite a bit about how everything worked. Even though paying 500$ is painful, compared to the over 2000$ estimate of changing the external unit (which still wouldn't have fixed the issue), it's a drop in a bucket.

They were very thorough, much more thorough than other heating and air companies on their estimate.

Air conditioner stopped working yesterday. Called Spencer AC & Htg this morning about 10:00, and Jamal arrived about 2:30 this afternoon. Couldn't ask for better than that. He cleaned a very dirty and neglected compressor and replaced a defective part. We are cool and comfortable now. Jamal is a very friendly, competent technician. We enjoyed meeting him. He explained what we should be doing to maintain our AC unit, and we will be doing maintenance in the future.

My contact at Spencer, Nick, ran a heat load calculation on our home to ensure that the replacement unit would be adequate for the size of our home, rather than assume the existing old unit was sized correctly. Once we agreed on a price, the work was scheduled. The crew showed up at the time I was told and in one day they removed the old furnace, old deteriorated flex duct, and the outside condensing unit. The new outside condensing unit was relocated to a new location per my request (my old existing unit was located right next to the clothes dryer vent). A new set of copper refrigerant lines were required since the condensing unit was relocated. All of the guys on the Spencer crew, led by Luis, were polite and very hard workers. They covered our carpet between the outside door and the attic stairway access ladder to keep the dirt off of the carpet. These guys were very neat and worked hard to keep everything clean. They installed the new equipment and ductwork and had the unit operating at the end of the day. They came back on another day, which we scheduled, to blow in additional insulation in our attic. I could not be happier with the job these guys did! They did an outstanding job and the workmanship is awesome! I would highly recommend Spencer Air Conditioning and Heating to my friends and family!

Spencer's service is consistently excellent. The only time I used another company (because of a "special deal" they were offering) I regretted it. Immediately after they left I had a completely new problem! I suspected wrong doing and called Spencer. They came within an hour of my call, determined the other company had purposefully disconnected something to create another problem, and did not charge anything for their service call or to reconnect the part. Spencer has skilled, courteous servicemen who have been with the company for years. It's nice to see the same friendly service man, who is familiar with the equipment, year after year. Beware - there are others out there who will exploit people by telling them they need unnecessary parts or service. Spencer's honesty and integrity are beyond reproach. As long as they're in business, I will be a loyal customer.

The repair was quick and they did an excellent job of checking out the system. The new unit performed flawlessly during the remainder of the summer and a tough winter in north Texas. The contractor also offers a year of free maintenance with the replacement in addition to the OEM warranty.

After having 2 bathrooms remodeled with the bathroom contractor saying that he was changing the HVAC filters periodically, the system froze up due to dirty filters. Spencer helped me out with the problem at no charge to me. I have used Spencer multiple times and have always had good service at a reasonable price and on time. I will use them again and again, and have referred them to happy friends many times.

It was fine and they did a good job. I have used them before and they are easy to make appointments with, and they are punctual. Their technicians are good. I like them and they always do a good job. They got the checkup done in about 30 minutes. The technicians are always professional.

We have been pleased with them. They were easy to work with, on time, and courteous. The scheduling is very easy and we had no problems.

It was very good. They were about half the price of the other competitors, and they were very thorough. I had no problems the scheduling. This all happened during an ice storm and we had to reschedule, and they were very accommodating. They got the job done in about 2 hours. The cleanup was good.

It turned out just great. They did exactly what we asked them to do. We also signed up for a yearly program with them to come out in the spring to service the A/C, and in the fall to service the furnace for one year. The guy did a good job when he was here. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. It took him about 45 minutes to one hour to complete the checkup. There were no issues with scheduling and they showed up on time.

Absolutely awesome!!! Wed before T Day called and operations manager made call that day. Now what company does that? One that cares about the customer (and first time customer that was a fair distance from the provider). Thorough, competent, and professional. Best service experience in at least 10 years. They took time to explain everything and future possible issues with the system due to age. Will use Spencer any time there is a HVAC problem. Further, will tell everyone about them in a very positive light. Old adage bad service everyone knows, well New Adage is great service everyone knows. And they are New Adage.

They are a great company. We had used them in the past about five years ago. My only complaint is that when we were going through the sales process the salesman seemed a bit put off that I said I was going to get other quotes to price compare. We ended up going with them because they were willing to match the lower price that another company had given me and because I had used them in the past. When the technicians came to do the installation the sales person had not changed the price. I explained the sales person had agreed to a discounted price so the technician adjusted the price right away. The installation went very smoothly and they hauled away the old unit away. We have sensitivity in the house from allergens, they did the installation from one door in the house and were super careful.

We have used Spencer Air before and they are an excellent company. Their service people are prompt, friendly, extremely knowledgeable. They explain what is wrong, what they can do to fix it and how much it will be. He walked me through the replacement of the circuit breaker and also showed me the bad part for both problems. Always very, very polite. The prices are good but of course A/C work is usually fairly expensive but they are no more so than other companies and definitely lower than some I've used. Also, I KNOW the problem will be fixed PROPERLY!

The service was excellent and the technicial was honest. Told me what my system needed and what it didn't need. I did not feel he was trying to sell me a bunch of services that weren't necessary.

It went very well......the gentlment was kind and patient with all questions that were asked.

Service technician was very friendly and professional - he worked quickly and explained to me what needed doing at each step. The only reason they were not A's all the way across was that I called to check when they were coming, and the person I spoke to didn't give me good information - so we waited quite a while.

As always, the technician who performed the service was very knowledgeable and carefully inspected our system. We are ready for the hot summer months ahead!

I was pleased with them. I had a new thermostat put in and I feel their prices were reasonable. We will continue to use their services in the future.

They were very trustworthy, and I liked them. They were great. They were very honest. They didn’t try and sell me something but did the work that I wanted. I would rate them highly. I will definitely use them again on my furnaces.

The estimate was free and they charged me $1400 for the duct work. They do very good work. They are very helpful. However they do tend to be a little bit expensive. I would use them in the future if I had more money.

I've used this company several times. This last time I called and I expected them to tell me they would be there in the morning because I discovered the problem after hours. Not only did they not tell me that, they showed up in 30min and did not charge me a fee for an after hours service call. They repaired it quickly and he had the part on his truck. Awesome!

My husband, who works nights & sleeps during the day, always complains that the a/c isn't cooling as well as it should and the electric bill was rising and I should call someone. (I don't know why HE doesn't call, but that's not important to the story.) Our summer vacation plans were canceled but I decided to use some of the vacation days from the job to do work around the house. I called Spencer-Cox on Thursday afternoon and asked if they would send someone out to find out what was wrong with the a/c. The dispatcher told me she could have someone there in a few hours. It wasn't an emergency, so I scheduled for the morning. (between 8am & 9am) I think it was right at or after 9am when he arrived. Since I didn't know exactly what was wrong, Jamal said he'd start with charging it with refrigerant and go from there. After adding a few pounds of coolant, he said I might have a leak and gave me the cost for a leak check, but suggested we wait & see how much coolant it needed. As it turned out we had very little refrigerant in the system. I told Jamal that I probably should have him do a leak check, but he said we might not need it. He asked how long it had been since refrigerant was added. I couldn't remember if it was done when we had a repair 5 yrs ago. He said that since it lasted so long, we probably had a very small leak and we may be able to go for another 5 yrs again, so he didn't recommend the leak check. While it was charging, I could already feel the house getting colder. Jamal had replaced a circuit board on the unit a few months ago, and had told me at that time that the blower wheel was going bad and would need replacing. I asked him if that was part of the problem and needed to be fixed too. He said it was something to watch but didn't need to be replaced right now. How often do you hear that? Most repairmen press to have everything possible fixed at the same time. On a side note, my husband had rigged a box fan to blow directly into a return vent, thinking that moving more air would help it cool better. It was turned off but Jamal noticed it and asked about it. He said he should be able to find out while he was there if the fan made a difference. It didn't. We've always had a problem cooling the upstairs loft and I asked Jamal if he thought we needed to have a larger unit or even two units. He suggested a new type of room unit that has it's own compressor. We had been looking into that type of system already so I asked for a quote. Maybe I'll have another a/c report for Angie's List this year.
