The tech was very professional, thorough, and shared helpful information. There was no charge for the service.
Description of Work: My old desktop computer would quickly cycle on and off when I attempted to power it up. I took it in to the west side office on the Katy Freeway where the tech quickly diagnosed the problem, my RAM was lose.

Its my business computer! SANFORD took it in - and replaced the hard drive and reloaded it with all my STUFF - He discoved a ghost drive that was taking up WAY TOO MUCH space - I remember when it was built - the guy told me something about a back up drive built in, but it doesn;t make sense to have a back-up on the same drive... DUH - anyway - done in time, in estimate and runs perfectly now. They know what they are doing.

It took them a while to fix the computer but they were able to do it, and we did not lose any of our information. Even though it took them longer than expected, they honored the promised quote. They were good to work with.
Description of Work: We had a virus on the computer and tried everything to get rid of it, but could not. The company quoted us $100 and stuck with the quote.

They were professional and friendly and upfront with me about the probability of recovering data and the cost.
Description of Work: I had two external hard drives that had died. They were able to repair one drive by putting it in a new housing and were able to recover the data from the other and transfer it to a new USB hard drive that I bought. It was quick and painless and I was very pleased things worked out.

Excellent experience!! The Computer Hospital - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The computer repair company I normally utilize wasn't available, which, I think was for the better because I was so impressed with Computer Hospital & will definitely contact them in the future. My request was for same day repair/config & I was thrilled when the scheduler worked a miracle - the technician not only made the service call same day but was on time :) The work performed was excellent & efficient. Additionally, the communication was superior with both the technician & the office. I even received phone contact from the office to followup if the visit met expectations & to answer any questions I might have. They also have remote assist available - full service. Awesome service!

I had a very hard to diagnose problem with my PC. It rendered the PC almost completely unusable. I took it to Computer Hospital and they did a free diagnostic. At first they did not find anything either, but after much digging, they discovered a vey stealthy and deep down trojan type problem. They completely "scrubbed" my PC, finding lots of other malware and put me back in action! They took the time to really dig and fix my problem. James and Sanford were wonderful and very customer service oriented. I hope never to go back (you know what I mean!), but if I have problems, they get my business! I would definitely recommend them.

While fixing the DC plug they broke a wire on the motherboard and didn't realize it. I then called them to say my computer didn't work. They found it and fixed it, but then they touched something else. They then had to replace that, but then they broke something else. I ended up having to get a new computer because of this experience. They acknowledged that the problems were their fault and were very apologetic. It even got to the point where they offered to come to my house to pick it up and deliver it when fixed AGAIN because of the comedy of errors by them. But they didn't return our money!
Description of Work: Took my computer in to have the DC plug replaced. In there attempts to replace this little plug they broke other things. Everytime we brought it home something else was broken. They were unable to fix my computer after 6 trips. We finally gave up and bought a new computer even though ours was a cute, expensive Dell laptop that we had only had for about 1 1/2 years.

I was working on my Dell desktop surfing the internet when my system shut down and rebooted into blue screen. I have worked with The Computer Hospital on Travis and recently moved up here. Knowing they had a location on 1960, I took over there. I was checked in, updated regularly and got my system back promptly.
Description of Work: My system was bluescreening and I was worried about losing my data. Johnny the manager provided a backup and then quickly repair my system and then removed the virus that caused the problem.

Initially, I was being helped by a very nice person named Jeff. He was quite helpful and respectful of my situation. When I picked up the computer, it appeared to work in their office (although the in-store demo took about 30 seconds) and I dealt with another courteous person, but it was a quick item pick-up as it was a weekend. When I returned home, the computer did not function as in the store. I was fine to take the computer back, but I was subsequently working with two other technicians that were not nearly as nice (they seemed arrogant and had a bit of an attitude). Althought I had the same ISP as their store (Comcast), they clearly didn't understand older modem hardware and made me feel a bit insulted that I didn't know what I was talking about). It was as if I was wasting their time. I corrected my other problems with Comcast, but TCH didn't make me feel comfortable about what they did to actually clean my system (on the second visit) other than "it works here". My postive rating is from my initial contact with the original employee (who was an example of great service), as well as the second weekend employee: one of whom may have done the actual work. My follow-up made me feel stupid, although I wasn't charged for coming back to recheck the computer. I can't give anything lower than a b-rating, but I wish all the employees were as courteous as the 1st two folks.
Description of Work: I caught a bad enough computer virus that I could not clean or fix my computer myself. The Computer Hospital (TCH) performed a full internal and external cleaning of my desktop PC. Internal cleaning was to clear virus(es), restore settings, check connectivity, reinstall protections, etc. External cleaning removed all dust and debris from cabinet.

Computer Hospital responded promptly even though it was on a holiday weekend and performed services at a much more reasonable price than the large computer store repair shops quoted to me. My brand-name computer stopped working, so I had The Computer Hospital diagnose it. They said the motherboard had gone out. Johnny laid out the alternatives: spend a lot of money on a brand-name motherboard, buy a new computer, or buy a generic case and motherboard and move all the rest of my computer components into the new case. After some thought we opted for the third option. This was all very quick and painless and Johnny and the other people at the 1960 location were very helpful and responsive. I checked N/A on quality only because we only brought the computer home last week. Everything seems ship-shape but if it breaks next week I might feel differently! But so far this has been a good experience and I plan to use them again.
Description of Work: The Computer Hospital diagnosed the problem with my computer and concluded that the motherboard was bad. They priced a new brand-name motherboard and also an option where they would put my old computer components into a new case with a new generic motherboard for less money. I opted for the latter approach and they did that for us.

Exceptionally pleased. I called them when I did not get a call back after 5 hours from another company. They answered the phone right away. They went through a checklist of items on the phone with me to see if anything could be done right then to resolve the problems but could not. I requested a home visit. They explained their rates to me, I spoke to scheduling office who said he could have someone at the house within the hour. Tech called me to inform me he was on his way and arrived shortly after. He spent time working on the router and the modem trying normal steps to re-establish connectivity. I had done many of the same. Finally he just had to go back to default settings and re establish everything again. he did that and it all worked then. he asked if I had anyother problems or questions. he helped answer some questions I had about security software on the PC. He did an invoice and checked out with his manager, who then also asked to speak to me to verify if I was satisfied and if I needed anything else done. Excellent customer service and attention to deal.
Description of Work: Wireless network router not communicating with cable modem. Wireless network was running and I could get internet via a cabled connection but not thru wireless. Tech came & ending up restoring router defaults and then resetting personal items and it reconnected to Comcast.

The encounter went well. I was at the FM 1960 store. The fellow there was not too knowledgeable about iMac's, but he was very competent and had an Apple guy he could call at the other store. I am very satisfied with the exchange.
Description of Work: I have an iMac G4 computer that needed a new DVD drive. The local Apple stores wouldn't do the repair. The Computer Hospital was noted in Angie's List as a repair facility for Apple computers. I called them, asked if they could to the job, they said yes, I took my computer in to them, they fixed it, and had it back in three days.

The technician showed up on time and told me that when the Mac operates so slowly I should unplug the modem for 20 seconds. He did that and everything was fine. I'm annoyed that the guy who answered the phone didn't make what would seem to be an obvious suggestion before scheduling an appointment which required me to take off work. I realize fully that I am largely computer illiterate, but that's why I need a vendor like this and a recommendation to reset would have been appreciated. Let me repeat that the technician was on time and professional and my problem is not with him. This is the reason my ratings above are all over the map.
Description of Work: My Mac had all but come to a standstill. Since I had been so pleased with earlier service from the Mac technician on a weekend I called Computer Hospital on a Friday hoping he could come out again. The guy who answered the phone told me that the computer could be going out since they were prone to do that. This Mac is less than one year old so I was not pleased to hear that possibility. We scheduled an appointment for Monday but he told me that the technician who came the first time would not be coming this time and was kind of vague about the reason.

Response from The Computer Hospital
Any time a computer begins to run slowly, it is company policy to err on the side of caution – a customer’s data is our first priority. And in these cases we always recommend that the customer bring the system to us for free diagnostics and estimates. In the customers own words, “My Mac had all but come to a standstill”. It is very common that customers don’t see the complete picture. The technician arrived and found it was not the system having the problem but the internet – as such when one sees the whole picture it is easy for an experienced tech to discern the problem. Like the anecdote of the 8 blind men describing the elephant, each sees something different. Not until the elephant is seen in the light of day does the whole picture become evident. We are a small company and pride ourselves in the work we do. Had she spoken to any of the managers, it is probable if the tech was there a short time we would have billed differently, but people get upset and don’t complain or complain in this manner where there is little chance for us to give satisfaction. We pride ourselves on trying to give value to our customers. We want the customer to get value for their money. Do we fall down, occasionally – who doesn’t? In this case we received an A for punctuality and a C for responsiveness – again we are a small company and many smaller companies are closed weekends. We make every effort to provide service when the customer needs it. We take calls 24 hours a day, that doesn’t mean we can provide onsite service 24 hours a day, but we try. In this case the work resolved the problem and yet the customer was till not happy. She described the problem even in this report incorrectly and yet expected to have the problem resolved over the phone. The Computer Hospital offers free limited support – we try to help customers avoid a call for a small issue, but when we get the wrong description it is not an easy thing to do to discern the problem. Regarding sending the same technician that had previously worked with her, he was a student and moved on to a different job. It is not company policy to discuss employee status with everyone in the world. In this review we received an A for quality and a D for price. Quality generally only comes at a price. Further in review of the complete evaluation how does 2 - A’s, 2 – C’s and 1 D = D for overall service? This much I will tell not only any Angie’s List members but any customer – if you have any problems with service, please discuss it with us. We want happy customers. We want to give value. Not everyone does want to give value, as a matter of fact many businesses don’t care. We are open 7 days a week at our Mid-town location. Why, because we understand when you need service, you need it now. She has indicated she won’t use us again and I regret this. Had she spoken with me, I would have gone out of my way to make her like any of our customers, totally satisfied with the work. What more do you want out of a vendor? Instead she chose to complain to the public instead of giving us a chance to resolve her issue which appears to be that she was charged for an hour minimum call for a problem that the technician was able to resolve quickly when he had “all the facts”. In this case the problem was related to the internet and not her computer, a fact she still has not acknowledged. To summarize, we work hard to give you value for your money. In this economy, it is not always possible to provide around the clock service at economy prices – though we work hard at this. If anyone has a problem with any service we provide we are more than willing to do our best to work out the problem. Please call and ask for James or Greg – we will jump to make your experience with us a positive one. Sincerely, James MacInnis

I brought the drive into the shop on Travis Street, and was told all the contingencies from best to worst case scenario. I myself suspected the worst case scenario, that the drive was damaged beyond my ability to repair it, and that data recovery services would be required. The techs confirmed this diagnosis, and gave me quotes on how much it would cost to recover the data I absolutely had to have, and to recover the entire disk. I chose the latter option. The drive was taken in on Monday 10-27-08, the data was transferred to a new drive and returned to me on Wednesday 10-29-08 with all data--including files I had long ago deleted!--intact and with no apparent defects in any of the files. The only negative comment I would make would be about customer communication, I had to call the shop to inquire if the drive was ready or not, rather than the shop calling me to let me know it was ready for pick-up. Other than that, top-notch service from start to end.
Description of Work: External hard drive failed both physically and electronically. Full data recovery services were required to extract needed data off of the disk.

Greg, the gentleman who helped me, took the computer and was very professional, efficient and knowledgeable. He diagnosed the problem and we agreed on a solution. It took 30 minutes total while I waited. He said if the solution didn't work, to call back. I did and he was able to help me on the phone. He also called this morning as a follow up to make sure I was satisfied. I would highly recommend this company.
