Description of Work: This was a follow up call for zoning equipment that went bad. This company already visited my house with the same issue and I requested they show up with the proper parts for repair. They showed up without parts and I was quoted again for a very inflated price. The technician quoted me roughly $700 for the repair and when he spoke with the owner, the owner said $900+. Part of the quote was to replace the AC ductwork since it had an inspection slit from the previous technician who cut into the ductwork. So, part of the work that needs to be completed is because of one technician cutting into the ductwork. Also, after researching the pricing for the needed part, I determined that the $900+ price quoted, which included parts and labor, were inflated significantly. I was quoted $900 for parts and labor for a job that requires roughly $250 in parts and only a couple hours of labor. So I was quoted about $700 in labor or $350 per hour. Since I did not move forward with the work, I had to pay the $65 visit fee. The technicians were friendly, but the owner Habib Khoury sounds very greedy. Also, I had some previous warranty work completed to the condensor coil in the attic. In the month after the work, I had an electric bill close to $200. I went into the attic and found out that the plenum corners were not taped off and all of the air was escaping into the attic. I had to go to Home Depot to purchase tape to seal the corners so that the air wouldn't escape.

+ 0 moreThis is the best hvac company. His quotes are based on the job not on the time spent on the job, so there are never any surprises. We have used Comfort Star in the past for replacing all of the ducts in our previous house. Comfort Star (Habib) was the only one that solved the problems we were having with humidity and unbalanced air in that house. We have tried other companies and this is by far the most honest and high quality work we have found.

We received various quotes for a whole HVAC (i.e. A/C Heating) replacement as our 12 year old Goodman system was on it's last leg. Comfort Star came in at the cheapest for the system we wanted and we had used them before for repairs. We knew they did excellent work, so it was easy choice to give them the job. Lastly what was an even better shocker was that Habib with Comfort Star upgraded us at the last minute to a 17 SEER unit whereas we were contracted for the 16 SEER unit. He also upgraded all our duct work to a better R value. You will sell yourself short if you don't at least get a quote for service from Comfort Star. Their emergency services are also very cost effective when compared against others we had to use.
Description of Work: Removed Old Central A/C and replaced with new Trane 17 SEER system, hydrostatic filter, and all new duct work.

+ 0 moreComfort Star was head and shoulders above the 5 other companies from which I obtained quotes. Some simply said it could not be done the way we wanted it in our 1940, not built for AC house. A contractor built out the AC closet making it impossible to use the original media filter Comfort Star installed. Habib continued to work at it until he found a filter system that would work. The upstairs air conditioner was not functioning properly. Habib found the problems and corrected them repaired them including rerunning the ducts so more of my attic was usable. I highly recommend Comfort Star and Habib Khoury, the owner.
Description of Work: Installed complete new AC in downstairs of 1940 house. Fixed problems with upstairs AC by moving main intake and adding intakes 3 rooms. Installed humidifier.

+ 0 moreHe fixed everything and installed a Trane system tailored for my home. Fixed the air intake, fixed the ducts, fixed the outside electrical box, installed attic tent. Wife and 15 month old were both home during install, the crew was quiet, quick, and left no dirt in the house. All the work was done professionally and Haibib was present during much of the installation and sent a tech a few days after to make sure everything was working perfectly. I'm so happy to have used Haibib.

+ -1 moreWe originally had Lone Star come and due the A/C inspection, as our house was still under a home warranty. They found other items that needed to be done including the filter being cleaned ASAP. I found their prices to be a little high so I called around and many other places wanted to charge $50 - $75 to come by even after I told them I have a list of what is wrong. Habib with Comfort Star gave me a rough quote over the phone that was 25% less than the larger corporation style places. He came out the next day, took a firm look and sured up the quote and did everything that day.

He analyzed all aspects of the heating system and explained in clear details what the work would entail and listed it, item by item, in his written quote. As a sideline, he also made a quick inspection of the AC system during which I learned some new things (such as age of the systems). All my questions were answered. The price was competitive with the lowest bids I had received (some were much higher). Since he showed a genuine concern for my needs while other bidders appeared to be just after a quick sale, the decision to award him the job was straightforward. INSTALLATION & STARTUP: the three man crew was clean (tarps over carpet, no mess left behind); the installation was completed in around 5 hours. Start-up went without a hitch. The owner then completed a thorough inspection of work performed and answered the few questions I had about operation. Overall very satisfied and Comfort Star will be my first call for HVAC servicing and, when needed, for replacement of the old AC units.

Contacted them when my A/C unit that has been limping along for a few years stopped working again. Very professional re: return of calls. And flexible re: appointments around my schedule of when I could be at home. Habib, the technician, was superb with showing and explaining the problems with my AC unit. He didn't pressure me to replace it. Said he could try and fix the probs. When I said I was ready to replace it (as plan to sell the townhouse in a couple of years) he was respectful of price concerns and gave me three options re: replacing and helpfully walked through pros/cons of each. When the job was done he walked through all of it with me, and showed me how to watch for/anticipate probs in the future. Very helpful!!

+ -1 moreWe own a 2bdrm rental in Houston that has continually needed replacing of existing window units and has had inadequate air/heat throughout the rooms since we purchased it. We decided to bite the bullet and install central heat/AC. After 3 quotes from Angie's list companies, we chose to go with Comfort Star because of the thoroughness and price of the quote, the professionalism of Habib and his willingness to coordinate other needed services (such as a carpenter, electrician and plumber). We live out of state and having someone trustworthy to manage the different needed persons for the job was a huge plus for us and did not change his overall quote for the work. Our tenant states that the workers were professional, prompt and clean and that the new unit is excellent in the Houston heat of August! Habib maintained constant contact with us through the whole process and even helped us with some other issues in the attic we did not know existed. He definitely went above and beyond the call of duty in every aspect. We could not be more pleased with the quality of the unit and the finished product! He took great care in every step of the process and now we have a home that is much more pleasant to be in and will be much easier to rent in the future. Habib also sent pictures of the work with explanations of everything being done. The outside unit, ducts and new attic access are a great benefit to the house and we trust in the work done by Comfort Star and will be recommending them to all our friends and family in Houston. Habib is a rarity when it comes to such integrity, work ethic and professionalism! We could not be happier with the end result!

+ -1 moreOur overall experience with Ricardo and Comfort Air was one that left us with faith that we had received promptness, knowledge of products, and speed of solutions to our A/C problem. Everything was better than expected; from early arrival time on the evening of 7/27 to his going further than necessary to find us a true manufacturer's part rather than having to use an after market product. Ricardo assured us that after market products performed just as well but I just felt a genuine part made for our particular unit would be better. Apparently Ricardo was able to recognize my reluctance to using another product and went the extra mile to locate the part I preferred. To me that speaks volumes about the excellent customer service that was provided.
Description of Work: Our A/C quit working about 4:00 pm on 7/27/2012. We tried to get our regular A/C service, but they couldn't come until the next morning and I was unwilling to wait. I got out My Angie's list book and looked for A/C repairmen. Comfort Star was the 3rd one I called who was willing and able to respond that evening. They said they would be there between 7:00 and 7:30 pm, but showed up an hour earlier much to my surprise and pleasure. Ricardo was very pleasant and professional and went right to work diagnosing the problem. Our fan motor had gone out and would need replacing. He said he would have to use an aftermarket motor because our A/C manufacturer was not open on the weekend to purchase parts. He said he would be back the next morning to replace the fan motor. Ricardo was proactive and did some searching on his own and called us @ 9:00 am the next morning to tell us he had found us a manufacturer's part for our unit and would not have to use an after market fan motor. He told us it would be $100.00 more, but we told him we preferred him to purchase our manufacturer 's part at the additional cost. He was there within the hour to replace the motor, clean and service the unit. By noon we had A/C again! We were so pleased with his tenacity and work that we signed up for their maintenance program. I would definitely recommend Comfort Star to anyone who needs A/C repairs. I felt Ricardo was knowledgeable and thorough and had complete faith in his assessment of the problem as well as very thankful for the quickness and speed of service. I must say Habib was the most professional from the initial interview including onsite supervision and throughout the completion of the job. He and his crew did excellent job. He is very knowledgeable, thorough, professional and I would recommend him to others. i have since signed a service agreement.

I had several quote but Mr. Khoury performed an analysis of our house and provided us with a diagram of how the new system should be installed. We live in a 55 year old house and it cools immediately. These guys are great and even accept credit cards which made payment easier.

Every time he met with us, he was professional and took the time to explain everything and we felt comfortable enough to call him with questions. Installation day was seemless and smooth and our system is running great. It was a pleasure to see that businesses like his still exist and we look forward to Comfort Star replacing our 2nd system in the future. I searched the internet for an air conditioning company, hoping for the best and not expecting to find what I found - Habib Khoury, Comfort Star Air Conditioning and Heating. After choosing three companies for estimates, Habib Khoury was the first one to call. One other company was way overpriced and the third never responded. Habib and his crew, over the last year and a half, have completed the following work on our home: New compressor New plenum Whole house filter New duct Whole house dehumidifier Service checks April and November From the first visit, Habib was so professional and prompt that we called him back time and time again. His prices are very reasonable and his employees are the best. We have had many occasions to use contractors for one thing or another and we just wish Habib and his crew could do it all. They're great!
