When they came out, they said my furnace was very old, which it is, and had someone come back out and give me a bid to have it replaced; the bid was over $20,000 to replace all the units including AC and heating. I had other people come out later who said not everything needed to be replaced. I would not use them again because I couldn’t have confidence with what they were telling me, was accurate.
Description of Work: The heater went out and they came in and fixed it. They had to fix some connection in the line, which turned out well.

My sewer drain under my house became clogged. I had ARS come out (within a few hours) and they ran a camera through the drains and said a tree root broke the drain pipes. They unclogged for temporary relief. Gave me an estimate for around $8500. Well the temporary relief lasted a good while maybe 8 or 9 months. During that time I had the opportunity to join Angie's List as well and had 4 more estimates - the closest estimate to ARS was $3500 higher! Everyone told me that ARS would be the highest, They were wrong! When it clogged back up I called ARS they came out within an hour and had the camera in the drain, explained exactly what they would do, 10 year guarantee, and the NEW price $7549.00 and they offered financing. THEY STARTED THAT AFTERNOON! It required digging under the foundation replacing about 20 foot of pipe, reconnecting a toliet and shower. Reinforced pipe with hangers, and then back filled. I gave them my camera to take pictures of all the work they did under my house and it was amazing. They finished the next day around 7PM. I was supprised to see that ARS is NOT on Angies List. 10 years ago they replaced one of my Air Conditioning units as well but I don't remember all the details of that.

I have a master membership agreement with this company for a number of years. 4 different times and they have failed miserably. 1st time : didnt show up to install toilets. 2nd time : Their call staff had taken down improper notes and after this they never showed up again. 3rd time : scheduled the next week. Running behind but finally came out a few hours late. Couldn't fix problems and just did an inspection 4th time : Call from "manager" but didnt offer to reschedule Overall I have called them several times and they have given me a run a round on how to handle the service I needed. I WILL NEVER USE THE PLUMBING AGAIN.

I have used ARS several times in the past for kitchen appliance repairs, and have been very satisfied with those services (and submitted a review earlier this year on Angie's List indicating so.). So I assumed that their AC services would be likewise good. WRONG!!! Our primary AC drain line had clogged and needed to be cleaned. I called ARS because of my previous good impression from their kitchen appliance repair work, and because they were offering free AC service calls this month. When the AC tech showed up at my house, he struck me as both grumpy and rude. His first comment on seeing the drain line was "This is installed wrong. It just makes my job harder." Note that we had a thorough home inspection done in 2009 when purchasing the house, and I have had AC work done as well within the last year, and none of the previous inspectors have made such comments--and all of them had seen the drain lines. (And, ultimately, the company who I did hire to clear the line said there was absolutely no such problem or cause for concern...) The ARS tech quoted me a price of $362 to vacuum the clogged line, and said there would be no guarantee that it would work. He also suggested, instead, that I consider having new lines rerouted and installed (for $1450!). I thanked him for his time and said I would consider this.Because all of this struck me as exorbitant and I wanted a second opinion, I then searched on Angie's List for an HVAC company with a good reputation and A-grade reviews. Without mentioning the interaction with ARS at all, I asked the other company to inspect the lines and offer a solution. Their tech said there was no need to consider rerouting and replacing the lines, and that vacuuming the primary line would be trivial. And indeed it seemed to be: it took less-than a half hour total and has cleared the line. The other company charged me $80 for the service call and $40 for the time it took to vacuum the line. Note that this is ONE THIRD of the price that ARS quoted me for the same service. I am very disappointed by ARS in this case, and I do not plan to consult them for future HVAC needs.
Description of Work: Service call to clear primary AC drain line. Very disappointed. Beware of "free" service calls, exorbitant price quotes, and grumpy techs!

1 pm June 15 - I called to discuss the situation with ARS, and spoke to Shontae (Call Slip #261543) who informed me that ARS does not handle situations where their technicians have caused a problem. She advised me to "call someone" (no suggestion as to who, when I asked), and told me that she is going to submit my information to Customer Satisfaction. She said to get someone out, pay the bill, then submit the bill to Customer Satisfaction. I proceed to call John Moore, who handle restoration work locally. They arrive, do some measurements with water gauges, pull the carpet up, remove the wet underpad, and begin work (removal of the mirror in the guest bath). They give me an estimate of $3500 to clean and repair the carpeting, drywall in 3 rooms, guest bath cabinets, and ceiling in the kitchen. I phone ARS to confirm that they will agree to pay this amount, and they inform me that: 1. Shontae is new, and gave me incorrect information 2. That I need to wait for their Customer Satisfaction team to decide IF they will handle my situation 3. That I need to get John Moore out of the situation. I ended up paying John Moore $500 for the work they had done so far, and they left. 6:40 pm - ARS' delegated firm (ECRS) evaluates the situation and agrees with most of what John Moore's team said, except that he does not agree the bathroom cabinet needs to be replaced, nor most of the drywall. 3 Dryer units were in place for over a week.A hole was cut into the kitchen ceiling to enable effective drying. The ECRS team pulled the wallpaper off of the kitchen walls, despite only a small amount of wetness in that area. July 2 - the kitchen ceiling & wall section (drywall) is repaired, and done very nicely. Also, baseboard in bedroom is replaced. When they left, they indicated they would order 1 roll of wallpaper to match, after we spent 2 hours at Lowe's trying to find the matching paper. 2-3 more visits were done, taking measurements, and getting various adjusters/ approvals involved. July 18 4:20 pm - Joseph at ARS informed us that they will not be completing the work in the kitchen, nor in the guest bath or bedroom (where we still have carpet pulled up/ damaged). This is despite ECRS personnel removing the wallpaper in the first place; they are refusing to fix it, saying the issue is not theirs. They now claim the issue was not caused by them, and that the work that had been done so far, was done as a courtesy. They suggested that we get the work done at our own expense, and submit the claim to our home insurance. They also refuse the put the carpet back, even if we agreed to pay for the underpad. As of this moment, portions of our house are still torn up from the half-done work and furniture having to be moved around. We are very unhappy.
Description of Work: June 14 - I heard water dripping in my kitchen ceiling around 4 pm, so I phoned several providers to see who could arrive the fastest. ARS arrived first. The first technician arrived roughly 7 pm, snaked the AC drain pipe from the attic, and left around 8 pm, declaring everything fixed. I was instructed to leave the AC off for about 30 minutes; I left it off for nearly 45 minutes, then turned it back on. 30 minutes later, the dripping noise was back again. I phoned ARS back at 8:46 pm. 9:40 pm - 2nd tech says he would not have made the choices the first one did, plumbing-wise. He does more work in the attic on the AC drain, and declares the original issue and the poor work done by the first tech fixed. The next morning, I have huge water stains in the kitchen ceiling, and I can hear that the water is running again. June 15 - the original tech is dispatched again (so, 3rd visit). He unclogs a drain (the guest bath sink, which is connected to the AC drain; it seems the original clog in the AC was pushed down into the guest bath, and overnight the AC unit - trying to play catchup for being off most of the previous day - has overflowed the sink). This overflow caused significant water damage in 2 upstairs rooms plus the hallway, and 1 downstairs room (the kitchen, where I originally noticed the water dripping). The technician asked me if I believe this issue was caused by ARS and I say "absolutely yes". He does not disagree, but does look uncomfortable as I explain why (simple call turns into 3 visits and significant water damage). The tech refuses to wait for me to make the call to Customer Satisfaction, but does poke a hole in the kitchen ceiling to allow the water to run out before leaving. At this point, the actual plumbing issue is resolved, BUT I now have significant water damage.

Response from ARS Rescue Rooter Houston
August 3, 2012 Re: 16322 Battlecreek Dr Houston, TX 77095 To whom it may concern: On June 14, 2012 a request for a HVAC technician was received for 16322 Battlecreek Dr, Houston, TX 77095 because the HVAC unit was leaking water and causing damages to the home. The ARS tech arrived and found a clogged HVAC drain line. He did clear the line up to the plumber’s hub or “house plumbing”. The unit started leaking for a second time on June 15, 2012. The second technician arrived at the home to find that the guest bathroom lavatory sink line had backed up and was affecting the HVAC drain lines. He removed a large amount of string from the line. The technician noticed that the bathroom wasn’t used frequently and asked the customer if the sink had been recently used. She said that she had recently had a visitor in her home that used that bathroom. This string is what caused the lavatory drain line to stop up. The technician also looked at the HVAC drain lines and found that they’re connected with a tee that wasn’t glued properly nor fitted with a cap to provide access to the line. The technician took pictures of the string and the design of the home’s plumbing and HVAC drain lines and reviewed them with the customer. There was incorrect information given to the customer from our CSR regarding how we handle property damages. Because of this, as a courtesy, ARS did agree to send out our water restoration group to review the damages. ARS has since agreed to cover the cost of the water extraction from our vendor only and to make the necessary sheetrock repairs only. ARS is not assuming any other responsibility. Ultimately ARS is not responsible for the damages as we did not install the HVAC drain lines nor did we put the string into her guest lavatory drain line. The overall design of the HVAC drain lines is poor and contributed to the damages and may cause additional damages in the future if not rectified. Thank you,
Elizabeth B.

I had to call BBB to get their attention and they did send a very courteous gentleman who listened to my story and suggested they install a solar powered roof vent to help evacuate the "hot" air in the attic. They promptly did this, but it has had no change on my consumption of electrical power.
Description of Work: They were punctual and did a good job a spraying the paint on the under-decking of my roof. They did install additional roof vents and insulation. All the work was performed in a professional manner.Since I have had their radiant barrier paint installed, I have seen NO BENEFIT from the so called radiant barrier. I have tracked my electric bills (kwh/month), since I purchase my house 12 years ago and I expected some savings after the application of the radiant barrier paint, new roof vents and additional insulation. My yearly totals are almost the same for each year since I had this company apply the radiant barrier etc.I would not recommend this product to anyone, it was a waste of my money.

The work is not actually officially finished, because it is air conditioning, the city of Houston has to come by and approve it. They came by and said that there was one thing that ARS / Rescue Rooter Houston did not do. They have not come back to fix it. There were supposed to dig some kind of trench and put some concrete in it for the runoff from the air conditioning system, and they just have not done that. They have not contacted me. The person who initially came out and did the estimate was absolutely excellent. But then the people who came out to actually do the work were less prepared; they didn’t seem to be sure of what they were supposed to be doing. I had parts of it on my list of things, and they said that they didn't know that they were supposed to do that. So I had to call the company and have that initial supervisor come out and get them started. That's when things started getting better. This is the complaint I had seen on Angie's List, but the price was so much better than the other estimates that I had to go with them.
Description of Work: ARS / Rescue Rooter Houston replaced an entire air conditioning system for me.

As you read this please keep in mind this entire story took about 3 weeks total, from the first event to the end of the story! The house sewer line backed up into the master bath/master bedroom. ARS responded promptly with a plummer, who promptly opened the valve outside of the house to release the backup. (We had to hire a different remediation company for interior of house.) After running a camera down the sewer line, it was determined there was a "break at the saddle" and a special ARS digging team would need to come to dig the site at the manhole, and fix the break. That took a day to occur. Then the team arrived and began to dig... but was delayed by rain, and thus the hole filled with water. The next several days they had another (bigger?) job to do, so mine waited. When they finally came to dig the hole, they had an incorrect part! So they had to find the correct part, and then the hole had once again filled with rain. The hole was about 8 feet deep! So they to drain the hole before they could repair the saddle with the correct part. Then we had to have the city inspector come before the hole could be re-filled. ARS and the city seemed to have a disconnect, because the work would not pass; the inspector could not see the junction because of mud, or rain water in the hole. The inspector came several times and finally said that he could only come back, if ARS was present at the site for the inspection. All of this went on for about 2 weeks. The hole was in my neighbor's yard, and they were getting angrier by the day! While the hole was still open, we received a bill in the mail demanding immediate payment, and threatening further action against us, as ARS showed that we did not pay the bill when the plummer first came, 3 weeks prior! After much angst, and aggravation and ALOT of phone calls to ARS we finally got the job completed.

My home warranty company used ARS for my recent A/C problems. I booked my appointment between 10 am and 2 pm. At 3 pm the technician hadn't shown up and ARS hadn't called to let me know what was going on. I called ARS and told I was next on the list after the technician completed the job he was working on. At 5:20 pm the technician showed up. He replaced the a fuse that had blown in the attic and was done in about 30 minutes. I asked if there was something I could do to fix the problem in the future and I was told, "No." The next morning my A/C is not working, AGAIN! I called the home warranty company to set up a new appointment. I told my home warranty company it was an emergency as triple digit weather was expected for the week. When they called to set up an appointment time, I was told that because it was an emergency I couldn't set up a window of time for the technician. So I just waited for a phone call that day. At 10:00 PM I recived a phone call saying that the technicial was 30 minutes away. Although I was super disappointed in the time I finally recieved service (for something that wasn't repaired correctly in the first place), the second technician was able to fix the problem quickly and, so far, appropriately. I have had working A/C for over one whole week now.
Description of Work: The A/C was simply not working. I couldn't even get the fan to come on. The technician had to replace a fuse in the unit in the attic.
