I noticed a gurgling noise in our pipes on New Year's Eve, but we didn't notice any interior leaks. Early on New Year's morning, my husband noticed water bubbling up in the middle of our lawn. ARS came out on New Year's Day within 1 hour of calling with no additional holiday charge. The service took less than 2 hours to complete, and the tech was very pleasant. I will definitely recommend ARS to others.

Overall, a fair experience. Even though I was promised an on time, early start, they arrived over an hour late. Which caused the roofer to be delayed (the roofer showed up on time). They did compete the work in a timely manner and cleaned up after themselves. And I love my new tankless water heater!

No service was preformed. The main reason I'm writing this review should by no means be a reflection on ARS but to mainly highlight how important it is to get a second opinion.
Description of Work: The sewer line to my house was backed up so I called ARS/Rescue Rooter. First off we had a tough time connecting, as I waited an additional hour to the allotted 2 hour window they give you for arrival of technician. Not his fault - Houston Rush Hour Traffic - Upon his arrival and inspection, he felt the job was too big/complicated and he needed his supervisor to assist in verifying the problem. The next day the ARS tech and his supervisor arrived (this time they were punctual). Upon further Inspecting the backed up sewer using the various tools of the trade i.e Camera, snake, pipe detector, etc they concluded that the cleanout line connecting to the sewer line had dropped due to settlement and was broken. They went on to give me an estimate for $2900 to dig up the ground and replace the broken pipe to fix the problem. Due to the high dollar amount I decided to get a second opinion from another Plumber. This other company (Leauvano) came by the next day and within 5 minutes of inspecting the problem advised me that the problem looks more like a city issue and that I should contact the City of Houston. I contacted the city within a couple of days they came out and "blew" the line open and all was well... Not only did I not have a broken pipe but did not have to spend any money. A big thank you to Richard and Johnny of Leauvano Plumbing and a further thanks to the City of Houston! In closing I do appreciate the fact that ARS was kind enough not to charge me a diagnostic fee which is pretty standard for any plumbing job. Also I did get a courtesy follow-up call from ARS asking what they could do to win my business.

Annual maintenance of the HVAC system for winter application indicated severe corrosion of the two furnace units. Since the systems were unitized as 'vertical' installs, decided to replace the evaporator/furnace simultaneously but upgraded to a 'horizontal' installation to avoid significant maintenance charges in future. Additionally, the upgrade of the smaller furnace/evaporator unit required replacement of the accompanying condenser unit. Consequently, at the end of the repair, we had two new furnaces, two new evaporators and one new condenser. Overall, the installation took place over a long single day (14 hrs) and was performed professionally with outstanding quality. My only regret was that I didn't go through my normal procedure of seeking multiple opinions and at least three bids for the job. Thus, I was left with the impression that I may have spent more than otherwise required. I do not have any negative comments about the professionalism of the job or the quality of the finished product. I would have rated everything an A if I had been able to conclude for myself that I received the best quality for the best price. Nevertheless, I still believe that the Overall performance was an A.
Description of Work: Replaced two furnaces, two evaporator units and one condenser unit in a two-story home.

They are fast. They will be there within the next three hours if I call in the morning. They are pretty good guys.

It is the best experiance I have had with a contractor Do get estaments. Do check with the BBS Do check Angies list Do check the work with the lead Dont take the lowest bid
Description of Work: I had the horizontal piping in the attic replaced with Pexpipe. The HW heater that they replaced 3 yrs ago was not done correctly and the individual that did it has been released. It seems that he would just replace the HW heater and not bring anything up to code. ARS replaced all the piping and put in the drip pan and hooked up the gas correctly. They also replaced the drain pipes for the pressure relief valve and pan drain correctly. All work was done in a professional manner. The lead Daniel kept us informed of progress and when done walked me thru the installation. We found a few spots where the reciprocating saw poked thru the ceiling and where his assistant had put his foot thru the ceiling in the kitchen. He called in all the damage and within 15 minutes we had a contractor contact us and set up an appointment. All work was accomplished on time and fixed to my satisfaction. I will call them again should I need any more plumbing.

It wasn’t cooling, so a technician showed up on Saturday afternoon. They don't charge extra for weekend trips, but they aren't open 24 hours. He advised us to get two new air conditioning systems that were less efficient than the one we already had. He was never able to find where the leak was, and just poured Freon into the system. We ended up being charged $900 for that service. They also mentioned that they'll repair appliances too, which would be included in the contract, but when the technician showed up, he told me the job wasn't included in the contract. He determined the oven needed a new fan, let me know he would get back to me, but never did. Each time I would call about the air conditioning, I'd mention the fan, but ultimatly they never got that part. They don't follow up! While at the home show, I found a different company that we decided to go with, because I thought ARS was expensive and didn’t give us good options. Their service contract is higher than another company's too, but honor 10% off.

This is a review for Church Services, ARS Rescue Rooter, and Herndon Muncey Plumbing. The short story is that Church Services saved us a lot of money and did a good job. We called ARS about an overflowing toilet. When the plumber arrived he dismounted our toilet and called his supervisor who decided to put a camera down the sewer to check it out. He jerked the cable so violently that he got the camera stuck backwards in the sewer and then broke the camera cable leaving the camera in the sewer pipe. He commented that it would cost an additional $10,000. He quoted us $26,000 and said they would start the next morning. ARS was not sure how to handle one of the drains in the back of the house but thought they would use some of the existing piping for that. I called Travelers insurance and they said they would send an investigator. I stopped ARS and called Church Services who bid less than $15,000 for a straightforward complete reroute. Both Church and ARS said the entire sewer system should be replaced all the way to the street. Travelers sent Herndon Muncey who fished out the camera and proposed a complex job to replace only the plumbing the insurance company was obligated for and we would abandon a washer drain that we are not currently using but contemplate using in the future. Herndon Muncey’s proposal would cost less but leave us with a complex mix of old and new plumbing. Herndon Muncey’s contract also indicated that the price quoted was not a firm price. If they discovered something their estimator had not contemplated we would have to pay whatever they wanted for the extra work. We chose Church Services and Travelers agreed. Church Services did the job at the proposed price in the time they estimated. They were careful to make as little mess as possible and cleaned up well. The job has been finished for more than a month and it looks like the lawn, flower beds, and patio where they had to dig their tunnels and trenches are recovering well. We have recommended John Nieman at Church Services to our friends for sewer reroutes. The crew does not speak English so deal with John.

Excellent job. It took about six hours and involved one person for 4 hours and 2 people for 2 hours.
Description of Work: ARS put in a tankless gas hot water on 10/31/2010. They installed one that requires virtually zero maintenance and qualified for Federal tax payer credit and TX Appliance Rebate. Tankless hot water heaters are energy efficient and you never run out of hot water, but they are expensive. I don't think all plumbers are very knowledgeable on this item so I went with a larger company that knew what they were talking about. For general plumbing I have used ARS and found them to be expensive, but for a tankless hot water heater I think they are a solid choice.

I noticed there was a different sound when I flushed the commode. I have a little sewer trap outside of my bathroom window and so I looked at it and the sewer trap was off and water was coming out everywhere. I called ARS because I used them before and they are very professional and they normally come out the same day you call whether it's Saturday or Sunday. When I called them they told me that they had a special going on and told me that they would unclog any drain for $70 and do a video of the drain. He comes out and unclogs the sewer line and another guy came and took pictures of it and shows me where the pipe is cracked, which was probably from my neighbors oak tree, and he said that there were also some low spots were the water was sitting. He then asked when I had the pool put in and I told him we did it after we moved in which meant they rerouted the sewer line and you could tell once they dug it up where it went in the house was really low and where it connected behind the garage was a lot higher. He told me that I could repair it if I liked but I may have problems later on, so I said go ahead and do the whole thing. I had mounds of dirt everywhere. They were always here on time and they did it in a timely manner. He told me that they guaranteed it and if they had to come back out to repair it that they don't make money, so they make sure it's done right the first time.
Description of Work: ARS/Rescue Rooter replaced my sewer line. I also used them in the past and they replaced my hot water heater and put in a new heat exchanger. They also do yearly maintenance on my air conditioner and heater.

The service, when they FINALLY arrived, was OK, as was the worker. Our complaint is that each time that we tried to use them (twice), they ran SIGNIFICANTLY late - as in 5 hours late from the projected time for them to arrive. For example, i was told i would be one of the first customers they'd come out to on the day, but no one showed up until about 1:30pm! The second time, after already being 2 hours late, we just cancelled the service call. Horrible, horrible customer service from the main office.

My situation was complicated by a couple of factors. The first was bad timing in that the separation occurred late on a Saturday evening which limited the population of available plumbers since the repair needed to be done on a Sunday. The second was that on Sunday, it rained heavily for most of the morning and into the afternoon. On that Saturday evening, I called ARS and they scheduled a plumber to arrive between 8 and 12 the following morning. The plumber did not arrive until around 2:30 and I was not advised of the delay until I called them when it was after 12 and I had not heard anything from them. It was evident that the plumber they sent was experienced and professional. My problem was rather obvious, but it was clear he knew what he was doing. He quickly provided a fee estimate (which I was not obligated to accept). In my opinion, his fee estimate was extremely high given that it was a relatively simple repair for an experienced professional (it ultimately took less than an hour to fix). I realize that the company has overhead costs, needs to earn a profit, etc. and I expected the fee estimate to reflect this along with the fact that the work was being done on Sunday. However, his estimate well exceeded my expectations. Ultimately, it was my choice and I elected to have the work done. I could afford it and I needed move on since this situation had already eaten up a fair amount of the weekend. I could have said no and sought another service provider or maybe even done it myself had I not lost most of the day due to weather and ARS's late arrival. Water service was restored to my house by ARS which was the ultimate goal. I can't say I would not use ARS again in the future or that their service is unsatisfactory by any means. It does appear that there are many highly rated plumbers on this site and I would encourage readers to look to them to the extent possible. I was in a difficult situation and they clearly had the opportunity to take advantage of this and, in my opinion, they did by charging me $600 for basically an hour's worth of work. I do exclude the time that the plumber needed to go to Home Depot to get supplies. He should have arrived with basic supplies on his truck. If it is something that can readily be bought at Home Depot, it should be on his truck already. As I already stated, I fully accept that it was my decision to elect to have them perform the services when other options were available. I had the final call and their actual charge was what they estimated so I knew what it would be when I said yes. I just hope my experience will help others be more satisfied in their selection of plumbers, especially in emergency situations. Hopefully, I won't be in this situation again. If I am, I am not sure who I will call. However, I do know who I won't call.
Description of Work: I called ARS to repair a break in water line bringing water from the main line to my house. Ground shifting caused some of the piping in the water line to separate resulting in my house temporarily having no water. The separation was noticed late on a Saturday evening and my local water company came to shut off the water and they identified and dug up the area where the separation occurred. However, since it occurred on my side of the meter, my water company would not fix the broken pipe. I called ARS and they came out the next day and repaired the broken pipe and restored water service to my house.

Called to get an idea of the services they offer and at what price. Their basic package is for $169/yr but you can pay monthly and it's actually cheaper b/c of their rounding. They also offered addtl services for slightly more-such as plumbing etc. Was pleasantly surprised by their inclusion of appliances in their plans thought since our dishwasher is also on the fritz lately. Got an appt 2 days later for a 4 hour window as is typical with service companies but apparently if you don't answer the call(I never received a call-was underground), they cancel your appt and don't show. So had to call them back and explain that someone was waiting at home and calling my number(the only one we have), doesn't do anything. So was put onthe schedule for the next time slot of 4 hours in which they showed up for that one toward the end of the 4 hours as well. So person waiting at home was none too happy to waste their entire day. Wasn't there but understand the person was pleasant but of course had to do the obligatory sales pitch of things we could buy to improve the system etc. Feels good to know I can call them for 24 hour emergencies too at a reduced emergency price if necessary.
Description of Work: Wanted to get a check of our heating system before we used it for the 2 month winter here-especially since our A/C fan motor had just been replaced.

The Clear Lake Water District found that I had a leak in the elbow pipe coming from the water meter next to the street. My Home Insurance, AHS, told me that they would not pay for it because it was not within the foundation of my house. I told them to go ahead and send out the Plumber to determine exactly what needed to be done. They sent out ARS Rooter and the Plumber told me that the pipe needed to be replaced from the meter to the house. This entailed going UNDER my driveway and through my frontyard up to my house for $2800.00!! The Plumber did not want to give me a price just to fix the elbow because he said that all of the pipe was bad. I finally pressured him and he gave me a price of $700 but he did not think his Manager would approve the work. I told him I would have to think about it. I asked a friend at work what he thought about this and he said DON'T DO IT!! He gave me the name of a local family owned plumbing company named Lanco in Dickinson, Tx. They came out that afternoon and dug up the area of the leak and charged me $137.00 to replace the elbow that was leaking! No leaking at all since the repair. ARS was TOTALLY TRYING TO RIP ME OFF!!!.
Description of Work: Water Leak out in my front yard by the curb. Water was leaking pretty heavy down the street. I first call the Clear Lake City Water District and they came out, dug around the meter and determined the leak was in the elbow about 2 feet away from the meter and I was responsible for it. I then called my Home Insur (who said this was not covered by my insurance) and they sent out ARS Rooter. ARS came out and wanted to digup and reinstall all piping from meter to house for $2800. Another company, Lanco, was called for a second opinion and they replaced the elbow that was leaking for $137!

Everything went well, overall. The team was very professional, gave recommendations, and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Technician Jose Peregrino performed a furnace check and determined that the furnace was performing in an acceptable manner. He highly recommended that a carbon monoxide detector be purchased. After consultation with his supervisor, it was determined what could be done presently to increase operational efficiency (add return air, install insulation). In the next few years, due to the age of the furnace, the team recommended looking into replacing the heat exchanger or the entire furnace.. They also said that some preliminary work would have to be done due to the existence of a tile roof. They answered , capably, all my questions so that I am well informed about what I am facing in the next few years. I purchased the ARS Rescue Rooter Home Service Plan.

I contacted ARS due to slow drains in my home. I suspected these were due to roots in my exterior sewer pipe. (As it turns out, this was due to a clogged shower drain, not a sewer line backup, but the work would have had to be done anyway...) The technician arrived punctually and ran a camera through the clean out into the line and found that the top of the line had collapsed. (ARS had notified us during previous visits that our line was of substandard thickness and would likely break one day due to tree roots and normal wear.) The technician gave me an estimate to replace the broken line. Once I accepted the estimate, ARS immediately mobilized a crew to do the work. The process took the rest of the afternoon and the following morning. Two men dug out the line by hand. The breakage was visible exactly where the camera showed it to be, so the initial diagnosis was correct. In the process of digging out the line, the crew cut the telephone cable. A locator service marked the utilities, but they mislocated the gas line, and the workers nicked it, too, so it had to be repaired during the job. When connecting the line into the sewer main, the workers determined that we shared a drop with the neighbors. Their drop was damaged during the reconnect of ours, so that had to be replaced as well. The final installation included much heavier-duty pipe, and additional clean outs on both my sewer line and the main so that all areas likely to get blocked can be easily accessed in the future. At one point during this job, I had utility locators, gasmen, linemen, plumbers, and a Bobcat in my backyard. The Bobcat (gas company) was a plus, as the operator used his digger to refill the trenches once everything was repaired, and that saved significant time. Overall, this job was a bit of a mess, and somewhat nerve-wracking. The final repairs function properly, and the job site was cleaned up and left in good condition. Despite all the complications, the original estimate was never adjusted, and I was not charged for any of the collateral damage.
Description of Work: investigate, remove, and replace broken sewer line.

I requested ARS to determine the reason that we had a clogged commode. Before calling ARS, I had plunged and snaked the commode for over an hour without resolving the problem, and therefore believed I needed a professional to diagnose the problem and fix it. ARS sent a plumber who immediately diagnosed the problem as a break in the plumbing somewhere near the connection to the sewer line. The plumber requested help from his supervisor, who later arrived with a sewer camera. The plumbers scoped the line from the rooftop vent to the sewer line in the yard. They diagnosed the problem as a total plumbing disaster, where we would have to excavate under the house and replace all the plumbing. Then they would have to trench the yard and replace the sewer line leading from the bathroom to the city line. They claimed that there wasn't enough slope to drain the commode, and that there was a broken pipe. Naturally, this made no sense since a broken pipe wouldn't clog the commode nor could it be a slope problem since the system worked perfectly well for more than 6 years after we remodeled the house. They didn't go under the house to look at the plumbing to see why it needed to be replaced, instead they claimed it to be so. I explained to them that the bath and sink tied into the same line as the commode and that they both drained without problem. And that the remaining part of the house tied into a common line and that only the commode wasn't draining. They checked and found this to be true but insisted that the plubming needed to be replace as well as the drain line to the city. After arguing over diagnosis, they gave me a bid at $5600 to fix the problem. I thanked them and immediately called three other plumbers to look at the problem. One plumber (Chavez) came and fixed the problem for $365 in one hour after arriving. He took off the commode and cleaned out the pipe.
