They were very honest, and told me that my ice maker was not in need of repair, as I originally thought. The only charge was for their trip my house. I also had them do some other work while they were at my house. They were a pleasure to work with. Punctuality was great. I would highly recommend them.

We called Mr. Hilliard because the icemaker in our side-by-side refrigerator had stopped working. He arrived on the date set for service and on time. The icemaker had to be replaced. He called and made sure the model needed was available and had the vendor hold it for him until he could pick it up. After Mr. Hilliard picked up the icemaker he came back to our home and installed it, telling us to be sure and call him if it wasn't making ice after 24 hours. He charged us for the cost of the product, plus tax, and gave us a 30% discount off of the service call/labor charge for being new customers & senior citizens...which we thought was great! We have had no problems with the new icemaker. |Mr. Hilliard is the consummate professional. He was very knowledgeable and gracious in his dealings with us. He has become our 'go to guy' for all things appliance...we highly recommend him to anyone looking for an honest, knowledgeable and gracious professional. He deserves an A+! |Additionally, the first time I called Mr. Hilliard was on a Saturday several weeks prior because our dryer stopped working mid-load and nothing we tried would restart it. He took the model and serial numbers and we set a date for service. In the meantime, he researched our problem with the maker, calling us before the scheduled service and giving us a suggestion to try...we did and the dryer worked perfectly! Everything turned out well. The technicians arrived just a little bit early, were very nice, and got right to work. Furthermore, they did a quality job for a reasonable price, and I haven't had any issues with the washer since their repairs.

Serviceman arrived about ten minutes before scheduled appointment time late on a Saturday evening. Looked into and discovered the problem with the dishwasher in a very short period of time. Being that it was after 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday night, he wouldn't be able to get the part before Monday. However, before leaving my house, he got on line to make sure the part was available locally. We rescheduled for his last appointment on the following Tuesday to allow me time to get home from work. Once again he arrived about five minutes before the scheduled time, came right in, and fixed the problem in no time flat. Very personable, very professional.

I contacted them over the phone to schedule an appointment to have my washing machine looked at, as the spin cycle has become very loud and the washing machine is now getting grease on the clothes. After asking a few questions, the tech said that the repair would likely be $600-$700 and would be something they would normally do in the shop and would take 2-3 days. Considering the cost, he recommended that we look at Home Depot or Lowes for a comparable machine, which would come with a warranty. Even when pressed and informed that the washing machine cost $1200 new, he said he was in business to make money and would certainly perform the repair, he still suggested that I at least take a look at a new machine. I was very impressed by his professionalism and will definitely look into a new machine. If that's not feasible or I run into any further appliance issues, I will certainly be calling them back.

I'm impressed that they will often give you advice to either do it yourself or whether the repair is worth the money given the age of the machine. They don't piecemeal solve the problem stringing you along for more money.

He was fantastic. Very quick to respond to our call, friendly, and knowledgeable. He discounted our service because this was the second time in two months he serviced the machine, even though it was an entirely different part that stopped working.

I was very impressed with his punctuality and professionalism. He quickly determined that the leaky water valve was the problem and, since it was too late in the day to pick up the new part and return to my home that day, offered to return the next day (no extra charge). However, my work schedule didn't allow that, so her returned 2 days later, right on time, with the new part in hand. He quickly installed it, made sure that the dishwasher ran without any leakage, and told me that his work was guaranteed for 90 days. I was pleased with his assessment, his price, his punctuality and his very professional manner. Bottom line, a trustworthy reliable repairman that I would definitely use again.

On Friday, August 16th, we discovered that our Samsung Refrigerator/Freezer was not cooling. We called Appliance Service of Houston and the phone was answered by Tolen. Although he was booked until late on Monday, we set up an appointment with him because of his favorable reviews on Angie's List. It was worth the wait. Tolen diagnosed the problem and ordered the necessary parts. Unfortunately for him, the Samsung parts were not available locally and had to be shipped. He was required to make more than one trip to our house but did so cheerfully. We are delighted with him and his skillful work, and will definitely call him again.

Mr. Hillard arrived promptly at 6:30 and diagnosed the problem as a defective circuit board on the rotor sensor. He replaced the sensor and the washing machine worked well for 3 weeks. We received the exact same error code and called Mr. Hillard back. He responded that the board that he replaced could be defective or it could have been 1 of the other two components he had mentioned on the previous visit. He was backed up with work would not be able to come out for 2 days. He said that he had no way to determine exactly which part was the culprit, so he suggested replacing both of them and he would replace the original circuit board as well. The cost of the new parts was approximately another $180.00. Mr. Hillard said there would be no additional labor charge. When Mr. Hillard arrived we objected to just purchasing and putting in 2 new parts without knowing which 1 was actually needed. We told him that was why we had hired him. He decided to put in 1 of the new parts that he was pretty sure was the problem. He ended up not charging for that new part as he felt that was fair since he should have known what to look for. Overall Mr. Hillard was very professional, polite and self assured that he would solve the problem. I would highly recommend and use his services again.

No problems - fixed washing machine

Was very professional. Let us know old dryer was to old to fix economically so recommended replacement. Gave a lot of good advice and minimal charge for his assessment. We have some other appliance repairs that need to be looked at, we will definitely be utilizing them again.

Excellent service. Very nice on the phone and made himself available within the same day. Courteous service and very professional. Repair would have cost almost what a new refrigerator would so he recommended we didn't proceed with repair. I liked the fact he didn't try to sell us a new compresor. Gave us great advice on how to get the best for our money on appliances.

We thought that the washing machine was leaking water, so he inspected the components inside the machine for us. After a thorough inspection, he couldn't find anything wrong with the machine. At least he gave us some peace of mind that everything is all right. After he left, we had to push the control panel back down to lock the tab into the washering machine cabinet, but that was no big deal.

He did a great job! He was on-time, got our gas cooktop installed correctly, was careful to not scratch or damage anything in the kitchen, and charged us what he quoted on the phone. I also asked him to fix the drain on an old refrigerator...which he did. He also gave me a 10% discount on the labor because I was a new customer! I talked to several appliance repair companies before selecting Appliance Services of Houston. The glass top on our cooktop was cracked. I've been trying to get this fixed for months! First, it was hard to find the parts, which I eventually did on the internet. Then, I thought finding someone to install it would be easy....wrong! Some would not do it because they said a gas cooktop with a downdraft was too hard, some wouldn't do it because I had bought the parts, others didn't sound qualified (hadn't installed a gas cooktop). So I was happy when I found Tolen's company, he was not the cheapest, but he did a great job, was on-time and definitely the best value. I would recommend him to family and friends.

Our dishwasher's touch pad control panel stopped lighting up and the dishwasher wouldn't function, so we called Appliance Service and Tolen was out quickly to assess the situation. The initial diagnosis was $85, which was applied to any repair that was needed. He suspected that it may be the touch pad itself that was the problem, and gave us a parts+labor+tax estimate of $320. He then told us that it was pretty close to a new dishwasher, and to talk it over and go look at new ones before committing to an expensive repair. He did not have the part with him but was able to get it locally, so he arranged to come back when I was available during the day the next week. He had us buy the part ahead of time ($150) since it was a specialized part. However, when the time came to do the repair, he replaced the touch pad and..still nothing. He went back in even deeper to the dishwasher and underneath the actual dishwasher he found some wiring that had melted through the plastic, breaking the connection to the power. He replaced the parts and wire, and fixed up the board so that the same problem couldn't happen again. The part that stood out the most to me was that he immediately said that he'd be giving us a refund for the whole part, since if he had been more thorough with his initial diagnosis, he could have found the problem. It's rare to find someone who will admit that their repair is so expensive that you may prefer to consider a new one rather than using their service, and then with the humility and integrity to admit that they were wrong and fix the problem. We'll be using Tolen again for any and all of our future appliance repair needs.

Appliance Service of Houston is exactly the kind of quality service provider I joined Angie's List to find! I recommend Tolen Hilliard most highly. His ideal communications, skill, knowledge and professionalism are top-notch. All appointments were attended promptly. All phone calls were returned promptly. His commitment to doing the job correctly extended even to mitigating errors made by other service providers (in my case, repairing holes made in sheetrock behind the 'fridge by plumbers who put in a new water line for the icemaker, by using metal tape). I had confidence the problem was diagnosed correctly after Tolen checked the water service line and valve, the switch on the outside rear of the 'fridge and the icemaker unit inside of the freezer. I was confident parts weren't going to be replaced willy-nilly and that every effort was made replace only the part that had failed. This job had a 90-day parts and labor warranty. I've experienced no problem or issue during the warranty period. I would not hesitate to call Appliance Service of Houston and Tolen Hilliard for any appliance service or repair I need. This company has earned my complete confidence. I believe Tolen Hilliard worked on my home in the same way he would work on his own home.

Showed me what the problem was and why it happened and the located a new heating element for the oven. He had to come on another day to put it in, but it was only a couple days after the first call. I'd have him come again, if needed.

My LG washing machine was leaking and so I used Angie's List and selected this company. I asked the owner, Tolen Hiliard, if he were going to be prompt, and he said "did you read my reviews in Angie's list?" Well, I did, and that's why I selected him. He deserves every compliment he has already received. He was right on time, he knew every part of the washing machine by name and function, he set about to repair it, came back the next day to replace one of the parts that was not in stock, and was totally impressive. I would not hesitate to use him again. He was so good, it seems as if he has a doctorate degree in engineering, not to speak of an honorary degree in etiquette! This is one of the few times it was a pleasure to get something repaired!

Arrived 10 minutes early Very professional

I was unable to effectively level the washer. It sounded like a fright train in spin cycle. The technician, Tolen, was very professional, and offered advise for a longer life for my washer. He ws also a very nice gentleman you will be glad you met. I definately will use his services agin for any appliance needs.

Tolen is a total class act. Very professional and a great guy! The part was going to be very expensive and we decided not to proceed with the repair.
