I mentioned to Mr. Hillard that I had paid for an extended warranty, but the company where I bought the machine was giving me the run-around and not responding so I was just going to have to pay to have the machine repaired or buy a new machine. Mr. Hillard not only called the company, but he went by the company and demanded to see the manager. Long story, short--I now have an appointment to have my machine repaired under the warranty--all thanks to Mr. Hillard. This is going way beyond any expectations and I do appreciate all he did.
Description of Work: I initially selected Mr. Hillard because he had had experience with Maytag. Mr. Hillard checked my Maytag washer and determined the mother board was defective. The cost to replace that and other parts would be almost the cost of a new machine.

I first read Tolen's reviews on Angie's list, I was looking forward to making contact with him. I thought "here is a person that understands the value of reputation and knows how to build a business." Now, after our correspondence, my thinking is " here is an appliance specialist who does not even know what an induction stove is and can't even be bothered after I send the link explaining it. Here is a person who does not know what they are doing." Hopefully Tolen's other work is more reflective of his actual performance. I, for one, am rather disappointed.
Description of Work: I asked Tolen for a quote on an induction stove. Unfortunately, he did not know what a simple electrical induction stove was and did not provide a quote because he confused it with a downdraft stove. I sent a link explaining the difference (though I should not have to explain that to an appliance specialist). He still confused the two which tells me he did not bother to read my link.

Occasionally, it is not worth the time spent responding to such customers' reviews! However, as always, we take time to respond to every Angie's List members' reviews. At the outset, we asked the customer to visit our website and complete and submit the "Schedule Service" form, which would have provided the "model number" of the appliance. The customer stated that he did not have access to such information (apparently rental property) and apparently did not bother to pursue such data from his tenant. Yet, in his review he complained that we did not review an online link that he sent us. Perhaps if he had contacted his tenant for the requested data and provided the requested information to us, we would/could have quickly determined that we do not service his appliance (glass top range) Providing us with the "model number" instead of a descriptive phrase such as "induced heating/cooking", etc., does not help us in determining whether we service the appliance, etc. Manufacturers devise thousands of "catch phrases" to lure customers to their respective products! In most cases we use the model number to determine parts data, and whether we service the appliance, etc. This customer actually threatened to write the very review that he has now written, at the beginning of our conversation, if we chose not to provide service on his appliance! We told him to locate another appliance service company based upon his negative response via email. He then responded with an apology, etc.! As indicated in the past, we provide outstanding service to all of our customers. Our "A" ratings now exceed 150 Angie's List members, in addition to having received three consecutive annual "Super Service Awards" via Angie's List reflect a very different image than what this customer claims about our company. It is indeed unfortunate that great companies such as ours have to experience this kind of customer. Had all the correct parts with him, we provided the make and model prior to. He didn't have to order anything. Came on the day and at the time agreed to. Made the repair cleaned up and at a fair price.

After waiting over a week for an appt with another company that never informed me they wouldn't unstack the dryer before servicing the washer or restack it when they were done, I called Tolen (based both on Angie's list and BBB). He returned my call almost immediately and confirmed that the stacked unit wouldn't be an issue. We made an appt for the next day and he showed up exactly when he said he would. Since he had requested the washer model and serial number, he had the part with him and replaced it right away. He was very friendly and professional. I've already recommended him to several neighbors and would definitely call on him again.

He originally came to fix the ice maker and water dispenser. Ice maker repair was not worth the price. The water dispenser discharge was extremely weak. That was fixed, but then got very weak again and there was a leak in the supply line. He came back and fixed the leak, but then the flow got very weak again, and recently there was a leak in a different location. He did not charge for subsequent visits and was always exactly on time - not a time window either. But we are going to try someone else to get the weak water flow repaired.

Tolen was wonderful! Not only did he arrive on time but he immediately got to work. He ran into what could possibly be an issue but was able to fix our water dispenser! He was very polite and didn't even mind having my dogs around him which is always a plus. I really appreciate the service and would definitely recommend them in the future. Thank you for great service!
Description of Work: I spoke to Tolen on the phone and briefly described my issues with our Samsung refrigerator. He was able to give me a quick diagnosis of what the problem could be and followed up with an email providing an estimate of services.

Excellent service. On-time for appointment. Quick diagnosis. Next day returned with part and repaired problem. No mess, no fuss. I didn't really want to spend $231 on dishwasher repairs, but Appliance Service of Houston got the job done without any additional aggravation, which is all I could ask for. The communications and appointment setups all went well. I first left him an message that I need repair on Samsun and Subzero refrigerators. He called me back and told me that he had experience on Samsun but not Subzero and referred me to a Subzero specialist company, he didn't even try to get my business to fix the Samsun, not even to pretend that he knew Subzero which was a very costly job. I was impressed by his honest and called him back that I need him to just repair the Samsun. Can't complain about the appointment, the schedule service on his website was actually easy and helpful to enter all the details (model, serial number, etc). He made two trips to my house. Both time he arrived just exactly on time on the minute! He dived right into the problem and made the precise diagnosis of the root cause. He explained to me the problems, his reasoning of the possible causes, and what he was going to do. The ice maker wasn't making ice, but he found the actual culprit was the fan motor. Also the temperature of the freezer was set too low, it caused lots of clogs. He cleared up all the clogs and replaced the fan motor. He spent about 2.5 hours for the repair job. He's very honest, friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend him to all my friends.

The whole experience was great. The washer needed a water temperature sensor as shown by the error code on the panel. Tolen responded to the initial call, gave an estimate, and arrived the next afternoon at the appointment time. The repair took about 45 minutes and everything was done. The price was the estimate and everything works now. Great job.

Very unprofessional attitude. Overall very rude. Did not seem knowledgable at all and could not get the freezer door open 9which I was able to open myself as soon as I got home). Seemed very hurried and having being at the house 15 minutes said he had to leave to go to his next call. What service repair person allows only 15 minutes to repair an appliance??? I highly recommend that you do not use them for anything. (the only good thing was that he did not charge us for doing nothing).
Description of Work: They were supposed to work on our refrigerator but the repairman was unable to figure out how to get the freezer door open. He was there 5 minutes and had my wife (who was at the house) call me and say he couldn't get the door open. I was on my way home and would be there in 15 minutes. Was rude to my wife about why the freezer door would not open (as if she would know---he is the repair person not her). I called him afterwards and asked for an explanation and received equally rude treatment.

The appointment was for 2 PM, which is when the service technician arrived. He spent approximately fifteen minutes attempting to open the lower freezer door on the refrigerator with no success. The technician told the wife that he felt that he could solve the problem with the refrigerator if he could get the door open. The door was apparently jammed due to either ice accumulation or an issue with the door's track system. It is our policy not to damage the customer's appliance in the process of attempting to repair it. Our goal is to fix the appliance, not to break it! The technician suggested shutting down the appliance for several hours to allow ice to melt (assuming it was ice that was preventing the door from opening). The plan at that point was to allow the "meltdown" and return at another time to resume the repair. The wife was on the telephone with her husband determining when he would arrive home, and she made a direct comment to the technician that the technician had an "attitude". The technician responded by stating that he did not have an attitude. It had been several minutes and the husband still had not arrived home. Our company is not in a position to wait for a family member to travel from work or errands. We are usually very punctual and have a full day of appointments. The customer knew what time we were scheduled to arrive and should have been at home if he wanted to participate in the repair process. At the point of the wife's statement, the technician did the right thing in immediately leaving the premises. We are a very professional company with exceptional technicians that truly care about their work and the customer. However, when a customer decides to become "unprofessional", then it is our policy to refrain from any escalating confrontation with the customer. We immediately leave the customer's home. The service technician stated that there would be no fee for his visit, and told the wife to locate another service company to repair the refrigerator, and to have a good day. The husband, subsequently, spoke with us via telephone, apparently after arriving home, which we felt was a non-productive telephone conversation. We bid him farewell. Our numerous "A" ratings with other Angie's List members speak for themselves! Occasionally, we encounter customer's that have had preceding, negative experiences with other service companies that did not resolve the issue with the appliance (such was the case with this customer), which perhaps has the customer at the "point of total frustration" when we arrive at the home. However, such customers should allow a company such as ours to provide service without negative comments while in the home. Regards, Appliance Service of Houston

Tolen was punctual, and he more or less took the whole thing apart, found the source of the noise and also identified the problem with it not working. He was amazing, very professional in every way, definitely knows his business, and I'd recommend him wholeheartedly. We'll be using his services again in the future for sure.
Description of Work: Our dryer wasn't working reliably (1 out of 3 times it wasn't drying anything and stopping prematurely). Also, there was a new noise coming from the dryer.

The repair call progressed really well. Tolen is a professional and I found him to be friendly and a trustworthy individual. He dived right in to solve the issue at hand. So far everything is working as it should with no problems. I will continue to call this individual for any future issues with my refrigerator or any other appliance that he repairs.
Description of Work: Repaired a problem with my Kenmore refrigerator. He discovered that the previous repair (by a reputable service) on the inside of the system in back of freezer (where the problem was) was not appropriately repaired. Haven't we all been there!

Never could get a repair time so do not know the quality of their work.
Description of Work: There is no phone number on their website. You must email to schedule an appointment and wait for a return email. Unknown to me they email available times to multiple people and the first to respond gets the time. You must request a “specific time and date” so asking for “first available” does not work. I tried three times over two days to accept a time and date offered to me only to be told each time it was taken. Since I do not have time to continue this email game of chance I found another local appliance repair service that will come to me within the next 3 hours.

We do in fact have a telephone number displayed within our website! Why wouldn't we? We designed a new "Schedule Service" form at the beginning of this year for customers to complete and submit to us for scheduling service appointments. The "Schedule Service" form was another source of contact for the customer (other than a telephone call). At the bottom of the form we clearly indicate: "to allow at least 24 hours for a company response". Most potential customers have access to the internet and a computer, and do not mind completing the form. Our customers have been very pleased that we provide service solely by actual appointment times and dates (e.g.: Wednesday at 2 PM, etc.). This scheduling concept eliminates the need for a customer to wait practically one-half of a day for the service technician to appear. We are punctual, unless there is some factor (e.g.: wreck, construction, etc.) that prohibits us from arriving on time. We have not received any complaints regarding the overall process of the new form (with the exception of this customer)! The form was introduced to minimize/prevent a "tie-up" with some customers on the telephone that just "won't hang up" (smile). We guess that they just enjoy talking to us (smile). As you can imagine, in either case (telephone or written format), we receive a multitude of requests from potential customers. No concept is "perfect". The majority of requests are scheduled quickly and efficiently. In fact, when we do answer telephone calls with an actual person from our company corresponding with potential customers, we can usually schedule appointments at that time. We are sorry that this customer did not experience our actual "in-home service". We are certain that he would have been pleased with us just as numerous Angie's List members and others have been pleased. We would have welcomed him into our "family". Please note that the number of Angie's List members that have provided reviews of our company are only a fraction (approximately 1/3) of the total that we have provided service for and resolved their appliance issues. Some customers just do not provide reviews, even if they are pleased with our service. A company does not receive multiple "A" ratings from multiple customers unless the company is doing something right! Best Wishes, Appliance Service of Houston

I'll save you some trouble: stop looking for another company and go with these guys because they're honest. They'll actually tell you if it makes more sense for you to buy a new appliance rather than getting it repaired - even though that means less money for them. I had the (mis)fortune of having trouble with two major appliances at pretty much the same time. Both my front loading washer and washing machine are about eight years old. I contacted this company in two separate occasions about a week apart. Both times, Tolen was able to estimate the cost of the repairs based on my descriptions of the issue. This saved the cost of an actual onsite visit. Unfortunately, both times the estimated costs were more than half the price of getting a new appliance. In the end it made more sense for me to purchase new appliances, but I've come away from the experience knowing who to call the next time one of my other appliances has a problem.

Tolen arrived a few minutes ahead of time. Checked out the dryer and explained what was wrong. He had a thermal fuse on the truck and was able to fix it right away. I would definitely call him again. This was the second time I have used him and would call him for all my appliance repair needs without hesitation. Both times I used his website to set up an appointment and he responded very quickly.

My dishwasher had stopped draining and Mr. Hilliard was able to quickly diagnose the problem with my dishwasher. During the inspection process, Tolen explained every thing that he was doing and why he was doing it. My dishwasher was 12 years old so I appreciated his honesty in telling me that I may want to consider purchasing a new dishwasher instead of investing the money in the repair for the drain pump considering the age of the appliance. Mr. Hilliard gave me a week to think about whether or not I wanted to repair the dishwasher and also offered to apply the diagnostic charges toward the related service/issue within one week. Appliance Service of Houston also offered to offset the diagnostic cost for the defective appliance. I chose to replace the dishwasher instead of repairing the dishwasher. I definitely would recommend Appliance Service of Houston and will use them in the future should the need arise.
Description of Work: Mr. Hilliard of Appliance Service of Houston responded the same day to my email request for service on my dishwasher. He was punctual and very professional while in my home. He inspected and tested the dishwasher, connected drain hose directly to disposal and diagnosed the dishwasher as having a defective drain pump.

In the midst of a mountain of laundry, the seemingly trusty machine that came with our pre-owned house agitated normally, then stopped without advancing the cycle. I waited until Monday to place a call to Appliance Service of Houston. Tolen returned my call promptly. From the moment I spoke with him, I felt confident he would be able to get us up and running in no time. As impressed as I was speaking with him on the phone, I was even more impressed when I met him in person. He was polite, professional, communicated effectively, and exhibited a thorough working knowledge of our machine. He even commented that it was a very reliable, well built model. This was music to my ears because my husband advised me to leave our almost new equipment in our old house when we moved because our pair had an electric dryer and this house had gas connections, which are more efficient to run. You Tube and internet appliance help websites almost had me convinced I could attempt this repair myself, but that usually proves to be a frustrating experience that takes longer than it should and almost always results in lots of bandaids and some bleeding. I'm so glad I paid a professional. Tolen arrived on schedule and quickly and efficiently diagnosed and repaired the problem. He even had all the necessary parts on his truck. We recently moved into a new home and I found that the dishwasher didn't work. I was upset since the inspection report prior to purchase of the home said that it was operational. I called Appliance Service of Houston to schedule a service appointment. I don't know who I talked to but he knew immediately what the problem was and saved me a service call. That was very much appreciated and I will be calling this company for my future appliance service needs.

Tolen was punctual and efficient with his time while in our home. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem with our refrigerator/freezer. Unfortunately, he was not able to fix the problem given that we had a coolant leak, but we appreciated his honestly and guidance in terms of whether to invest the money in repairs or getting a new refrigerator altogether. He was also able to provide some tips on shopping for a new appliance and offers his services in terms of guidance while shopping. He also gave me the name of an excellent electrician, who I have used and was very happy with!
